How To Separate Audio In OBS - Games, Music, Discord All separated!
Have you ever wanted to separate your desktop audio into different tracks in OBS? Before now you had to use complicated software like VoiceMeter Banana and virtual audio cables. Not any more! A new plugin can do it all!
Now you can adjust levels on each source and even send some audio to monitor and some to the stream only. It's amazingly powerful!

Holy crap this plugin changes everything! It's so much easier than using Voicemeeter, which I've recently had major issues with as far as streaming goes. OBS would show that I have audio from my sources but stream couldn't here me or discord, just Spotify. Played with it and looked stuff up for two days and STILL couldn't figure out what was happening.
This streamlines everything through OBS, thank you!! Definitely subbing
This really answered all of my questions. Thank you for a very clear and concise video!
Thank you so much for this tutorial! Whenever I have an OBS question, I come straight to your channel. please, keep it up the good work
everytime i stop by in your channel i always ended up learning something new! thanks for sharing!
Glad to help
Thank you so much, this was a very helpful tutorial!
You have the best OBS content in the history of man. Good job man. You've helped a TON!
Glad to help.
@@MichaelFeyrerJr Probably gonna subscribe for the extended support. I think you're brilliant man.
Love these videos as they guide me step by step through the process. 👍
Finally, thank you. This should show up on youtube page when i searched before. REddit recomended this plugin and other youtube tutorials were hard to follow.
This is really amazing. The application didn't work 100% like the video, but guessing there might have been a update or I did something wrong, but in the end, it worked pretty much like you stated in your video. Game changer. Thanks.
Just wanted to say thank you your videos always help me and I appreciate it I'm a beginner obs for recording and I just wanted to say thank you
Glad to help!
Thank you so much for this was just looking into virtual audio cables and so glad there is a plugin instead!

Oh my gosh! This helped so much! I am doing my debut stream literally tomorrow and I decided to go ahead and split my audio. This video was the easiest to follow! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!
Glad to help.
@@MichaelFeyrerJr my recordings are still capturing my spotify when i use the replay buffer , i change the track audio but the replay is still capturing spotify even when i mute spofity in the hotkeys
love your work really helped me out
bro thanks so much i was watching your previous video and things were different but i found this one and it worked so well thanks!

Bro You are a Life Saver.. Thank you for being Straight Forward. You Just Earned a sub!!!!

TY for helping me i have searched for how to Split Audio in OBS Studio FREE! for 2 hours now ty
Awesomeness as usual. Thank you Sir.
Thanks for this video now I no longer have to deal with issues like the audio on my end to loud but on the stream and to silent
Thank you.
very cool thanks for sharing!
Thanks for sharing!
Thank you!
great, this is perfect for making my mic volume higher and game/alerts volume lower for sending through NDI to stream PC.
:)
won't the desktop audio source take my discord sounds ???
@@BraveHeartYT You have to go into the OBS Settings, Find the "Audio" Tap (on the left side) and where it says Desktop Audio and Desktop Audio 2, make sure those are both set to "Disabled"!
Thank you so much!!!
Great short usefull video! Thank you
Suddenly realized the video was uploaded THIS morning
Awesome thanks, audio has been a nightmare to configure in OBS! cheers
Thanks your doing great
Great video Michael, but i have an issue i did everything you did on the video but the problem during the live streaming the audio didnt come out but in my audio mixer the bar goes up. is there any solutions?
Does thiss mean it will record trackks separately, or is this just for streaming. Thanks very much again Michael.
Love this plug in! But I've noticed my audio will get staticy after a few hours of recording/streaming. Any tips to prevent that?
Super helpful videos ever since! I hope you could also do vmix tutorials in the future!
Thanks
are you aware of any issues of this plugin? been using it for the last couple months and randomly in my game audio it statics for my stream and viewers. Any fix? it varies from time to time so there's nothing to really set it off, but its 100% the game audio
Thanks for the video!! How do you do this for console? I can't get my audio to work for my Xbox.
Thanks for the help
Glad to help
How do you factor your mic into this? Do you also add it as an 'application audio output capture'? The audio setup in obs is the most confusing for newcomers I find.
thanks man it works
Glad to help.
Thanks!
Glad to help
finally i can have some background music for myself when i stream that will not get strikes on my videos when the streams end
Hello. I am stuck on the step at 4:00. Whenever I add the executionable (ex. discord during a call), it is created and placed in the Sources. However, whenever I look at the audio mixer, the discord application audio is not present.
hello Michael, thanks for the vid. I'm been trying to find a way to split my audio in my obs since I'm using an old earphone set to record & I somehow my mic is picking up bits of audio where it normally can't.
you are a big help man
Speaking of Audio, the Stream Deck 5.3 update broke a setup I'd been using a long time that I can't seem to get back again. Previously I had two mute button setups: One that muted/unmuted my microphone, and another to mute & unmute desktop audio in OBS. Both of them changed the color of the speaker icon in the audio mixer in OBS from white to red. While there are plug-ins now in Stream Deck 5.3 they don't seem to work the same way. I really liked my old setup and it's frustrating to have lost it by upgrading. This tutorial is interesting but more complicated than I need and would require quite a rebuild of a setup I've used for years. New tools are great, but backward compatibility is useful as well. Any suggestions on my mute issue is appreciated.
Excellent video.. I have a question that you might know the answer to. It has to do with splitting the tracks and recording each track separately.. for instance.. if I select record tracks 1,2,3 only . With Track 1 being the main mix - which is my zoom q2n-4k mic+camera plus whatever source .. track 2 being the q2n-4k only , track 3-4 optional mic2 ,,. Etc. I have succeeded in getting set up similar to that where you go on your media player and you could go in the subtitles and find all the different audio tracks but my question is .. can it record the separate tracks all together in separate files ...??? Would they be attached to the file or how does that work? In my situation, generally streaming and recording are better with whichever mic is physically placed better .. the goal is to have no more wasted recordings and more options .
i'm having troubles with the "Application Audio Output Capture" not even showing up, after downloading it, anyone know what the issue is?
Hey Mike, I was wondering the other day how to separate the different audio sources, thanks to this video it helped out.
does it work on obs 29
it did
Works great but thinking about using my steam deck as a streaming PC with an elgato, which involves a line-in audio for the streaming PC to capture audio, can this same result be accomplished without a go xlr? With a dual PC setup?
The new OBS update makes everything look super different and it even has audio mixers with several different inputs and outputs so I dunno if this step by step is gonna directly apply to it or not.
you don't have to check the box that says click here to capture all audio except for the selected executables?
You could also use the Plugin 'Audio Monitor' to create a stream- and an headphone mix, instead of grouping everything beforehand like you showed at 5:40
Of course you'd have to manually add the filter to every Source, but it gives you even better control over what the audience hears vs what you hear
Cool.
I don't like the audio monitor plugin, if I have it installed it makes my OBS crash.
I know im late to the party but will i need to add a NEW game audio EVERYTIME of can i just use the 1 audio to pick up ALL the game executeables
What if I want to play music and share it to the stream but remove the music in my vod? I have an issue separating my friends audio with music.the whole thing would be saved as me just talking to myself or me and my friends plus the copyright music in my vod
Curious what to do for alert audio from stream elements with this?
Do you still need a voice meter?
Question since you added Lost Ark to executable if you were to play a differnet game such as COD would you have to change the executable each time?
Add for each.
Hi Michael, I've had to stop using this plugin as it was somehow disabling my overall audio monitor for OBS. Have you noticed anything like this before?
this helped me so much but now my sound alerts dont work, i can hear them but stream dont how would i solve this if you know ??
I don't know if i dont get it but where can i find my Alertbox sound? How can i add that as Applicattion audio output capture? Can someone help please
Chill with the intro homie.
im having an issue with the Xbox Game Bar, sound not working when it comes to controlling the volume or muting it out, please help!
Hi, thanks for the video! Does it saves config for each scene? For example - after pc restart it remembers route to Spotify?
Yes
always amazing contents, thank you p. s. would be nice if you start making some video about streaming on VR
I did a few.
@@MichaelFeyrerJr yes... we need more 😉 some examples : manage audio in VR world, interact (tts) with users! I do most of these but they are tricky and with your experience I might learn new things. keep up the good work
thank you thank you 1000 thank you now I can listen to music while streaming and obs cant pick it up
Hi Michael. I downloaded the new plugin, but could not get my laptop audio to play in my livestream. Could it be that I did not delete VB Cable? I do not believe I need it any longer using this new method. Please advise and thanks.
do i have to add audio source for every new game i play ?
ty so much
You are amazing guy
Im really like all what you are doing
It helps me alot
This is mo ibrahim from Egypt
Glad to help.
Does this work the same with recording using OBS?
I have a question and i hope my english is good enough for it. After i have taken a video for youtube, i want to cut it but i cant find the seperated audiodata, the onlything i can find is the video it self with all audios combined. i hope u can help me out, so i can make my self louder or queter while the audio of my friends stays the same :D
Youre a god, appreciate it!
its really cool video, but there 1 problem... i got double sound when use that plugin, can u gimme some tips how to fix it?
is there a version for stream labs?
Plugins don’t work on streamlabs.
Kindly make a video on noise suppression
Ok so i split my audio and everything is great except my spotify comes through my mic channel as well so spotify is coming through my VODs. Do you have a fix for that or video i can watch that goes over that? Thanks again for helping us :)
im not sure why but only my microphone is being picked up nothing else even after adding in the other tracks, do you know how to fix that
But… how can this be used to lower the discord volume for stream yet keeping it loud enough for ‘myself’
Would I need to add 2 x discords into the mixer, 1 in stream group and then 1 for me??
what if i did everything showed in this video but obs is just like not hearing anything that i added no youtube no spotify and not even my game do you have any solution?
Every time you shout ‘hello my UA-cam friends’ I jump back.
Got Virtual PTSD😆😆
how can u relocate a file? bc when i download it i can't chose where it will be so it just goes to my downloads and will not be in my obs file. How can i change this?
Can i use it for my recording game- ?i get bored- and want to hear music but dont want to record it but i do want to record dur game play
You live streaming tutorials has really helped me and my church media team to improve on live streaming using OBS. You are doing a great job.
I'm having challenges in importing videopsalm to OBS via window capture. Videopsalm is appearing as null. Please can you tutor on how to resolve it.
Thanks.
thanks for all your very great videos.
i have a question. i asked on reddit, so ofcourse i got NO answer at all....
is there a way to split the output on windows ? ( i mean send the audio to 2 output, not to headphone and speaker at same time ) lets say i play LoL. i want to hear the sound of the game in my headset at a specific volume ( no in-line volum ), and stream the game audio at another specific volume ? thats just an exemple of what i need. game audio are WAY too loud, and if i lower the volume then the stream barely hear it even if its maxed out. so i need 2 different output, one for ME and one for obs. i have paid version of Virtual audio cable if that could help.
is there a way to have all the games you play on there without having to open up and add every game you play?
OKay so when i do this i still have spotify and web stuff coming through on my desk top speakers. I have a lot of sound alerts that come through on that well so i want to be able to have the alerts come through as well. Also i use the feature to not record a certain audio channel to twitch (my music). I guess what im trying to do is have all my audio on seperate channels because even with the separation it still comes through on desk top audio (my speakers) which i think the audio would be doubled if i had the spotify channel going with the desk top channel. I know in sound settings i can have the music go to different outputs but when i do that i cant hear it anymore myself
What if you cant add anything at all? I can't even open the "add from current active sessions", even if i DO have them open :(
Michael I’ve been racking my brain for a week and a 1/2 trying to figure out obs with zoom. Watching all your vids. Is this plug-in for Mac too?
I guess so...
I added a game audio thing to my nested audio sources tab , do i really have to go into its properties and change it to whatever game im in every single time,.,,?
Yep. Or create separate audio sources for each that will be active when you play that game.
Is there any way to do this in OBS 27? I have a thing I need to do but OBS 28+ are broken
Is there a plug-in like this for Mac users?
does it work for pcsx2 or other emulators ?
does work capture card gameplay? ? device can't find capturecard?
Thank God this was finally updated because it was making certain videos be a real hassle to make due to how I was having to set them up.
The only problem I have nowadays is that when I'm using my Mic (I have a Yeti) as my input source, my speakers (which is my output source) cause the audio to be doubled from time to time. Is there a way to have the mic pick up me but not my speakers?
Yes. Use headphones. :-) they are mini speakers you wear on your ears.
@@MichaelFeyrerJr True. But then they prevent the others with me from hearing the audio.
This is just what I need. But even when I download any type of plugins for obs it wont allow me to run or use anything. Kind of to bad. Tons of stuff I would like to use. But idk why no plugins I download ever work properly.
I’ve been having problems with this, I originally had this and the music wouldn’t pop up in my Vods on twitch. But now with OBS 28 it’s popping up in my VODS and it’s muting my audio on twitch, please help!!!😢
can you do a video for this on stream labs?
When I add a source this way, it doesn't appear to do anything. All my sounds are directed to my headset so I can hear them, but I feel like it's blocking my ability to separate the audios. I need something that takes multiple inputs, and gives multiple outputs that I can control with my NanoKontrol2 and my OBS. Any idea?
for some reason non of my audio picks up even after adding the executable only my mic is being picked up
how would you do this if you have a dual pc setup with goxlr usb going into gaming pc? i can not find anything on youtube that is helpful. All i want to do is be able to record and then when i go to edit in adobe be able to remove or edit my mic audio and remove spoify audio/discord audio.
So split the audio and put each source on a different track.
Can this be done without a go xlr?
@@godrecall I’m not sure, there prolly is a way tho… where I’m stuck at is my goxlr routes everything in my obs to one channel and that’s aux/mic… and my obs audio is all disabled but one and it’s set to default which is my line in… so when I look for other audio sources to split… there are none to find…
The executables isnt there for me am i doing osmething wrong?
