I can resonate with all that Erika describes, as in the advice that people like to provide of, keep busy, time heals and be strong.
I think we do not know how to communicate effectively with someone who is going through grief, I am one of these people, but I know more now.
Sure, the depth of grief is equal in measure to the depth of love, great to hear that, it is certainly true in my experience.
Also, I do feel the support falls off as time goes by, others who intentions are good, who want to help, forget that the person is still grieving long after the event.
Many grievers wear a mask, they feel guily for being glum in front of others, so try to remain cheery, although it is draining and not a true reflection of how they feel.
Personally I attempt to seek comfort in the company of others, but I still see an empty chair beside me, in my mind, so this prevents me from fully enjoying the experience.
The process of grief is that one day the acute injury to the heart and mind becomes a scar, not quite so deep and prenetrating, but still very visible and you have to live with it.
There is no choice but to live with it, as it does get easier to cope with after time, somehow you come to love your scar, it is a reminder of what is not to be forgotten.
What a great conversation, so many absolute truths spoken, Erika sure knows exactly how if feels to be a griever, and offers insight and advice on how to move on (not get over it).
Thank you both for getting the message out there about grief.
