I made this video coz living both in the US and Japan made me realize a lot of difference in daily habits.
also, thank you so much for all the love on my last video❤I’m planning another video around quitting 9-5 & I can't wait to share with you soon✨
Do more of your culture habits, I've been eating macrobiótica by George ohsawa and many of the products were new for me as I'm Dominican
This video made me feel ashamed of myself for being Japanese and doing none of those things, EXCEPT the 80%-full rule! Once it becomes a habit, it's easy to do! It could be one of the reasons why I have less stomach issues now than before. Weirdly enough, I love doing the dishes, by the way.
Thank you for your comment :) I wish I liked doing the dishes…
yes LOLL its so anxiety inducing seeing it all piled up but its quite theraputic actually doing it with some music on
The eating quickly thing hit me so hard. I used to eat very quickly, all my life I’ve only seen food as ‘something I need to do to keep myself alive’ before I move on to the next thing. I was a very active kid, with a very busy schedule of sport activities, school, extra curricular etc, so meals was always something I had to quickly do in between, I never took the time to sit down and enjoy. My boyfriend has taught me the importance of eating well and eating and cooking together to make our bond stronger. It is now truly one of my favorite things in my day, and I make the time to be intentional with my food, my boyfriend and all the resources that have provided us with this meal. 🙏
That is amazing! I think eating mindfully with your loved ones really make a difference :)
Indians also do most of this. Specially hot water, thanking someone who cooked your food, pickling, and eating until 80% fill. We call the small cups Katori!
Right, it’s amazing how similar our habits can be
It's not true
I am an Indian
But we all earth people will soon improve together 😊
India has a population of 1.2 billion people, I am sure it’s not the same for everyone!

Im not Japanese, but i appreciate so much how balanced and healthy Japanese food can be, especially breakfast! Definitely beats American food! Thanks for sharing these healthy habits!
The scene where you talked about your brother eating too fast and your mom telling him to eat slower brought an old memory of the adults in my family telling me I would eat too slow as a kid and needed to eat faster. I remember always feeling bad when they'd tell me I was a slow eater.
Thank you! I was born and raised in Russia and we don't drink cold beverages and consume manyyyyyyyyyyyy fermented foods and probiotics. However, when I moved abroad I stopped eating probiotics and fermented food and I felt fatigued and gained lots of weight. Currently, I live in Thailand and I don't have access to Russian food but I really like Japanese fermented dishes and they make me really happy =)
I hope you will be able to find a supermarket that sells Russian ingredients in Thailand soon! In the meantime, Japanese fermented food will do! haha
you were born for youtube and storytelling so don't give up!!! Your videos provide so much value and believe me you will get millions of views someday🎉
your comment just made my day. I took a screenshot and I will look at it whenever I feel down... thank you so much ✨
So happy to see you productive with your channel after quit from your corporate your job. It's like my condition now. I'm doing everything that i want, build my own path career, do a lot of things with my small family without compare it to money or other's people achievement. Keep going!!!
thank yo so much :) so happy to find someone going through the same thing!
I was in Kyoto in 2019, my first trip to Japan. Stayed only 5 days but experienced a lot of your food and overall culture. Wish one day to return back and travel more inside the country. I simply loved Japan. Thanks for your informative videos. Arigatou gozaimasu💕
Thank you for watching! Arigato gozaimasu
This is exactly the lifestyle we are trying to have in my house since we are back from Japan. We miss it so much, fortunately we can find natto in France it became my number on craving for breakfast ✨🌸
Thats amazing that they sell natto in France! 🌸 It’s so good, I love eating it with raw egg and green onion!
Where in France do you live cause I have bought Natto in Japanese and Korean supermarkets in Paris 😅 i am sure they do national delivery 👍🏻
You’ve inspired me to start eating traditional Japanese breakfast. I’ve always hated American style breakfasts so now i’m excited to eat in the morning again :)
Yesss! Let me know how it goes :)
When I studied in China during my exchange I drank hot water religiously every single morning and evening. All my Chinese friends did it, so I followed along and it was a miracle. It's so satisfying.
I am leaving for my first trip to Japan next week! Your video was excellent! I wish we North Americans would practice being grateful for food, eating slowly and stopping before getting full. I include myself too! Just watching this video made me calm down!
Thank you so much 🍃✨
I have just found your youtube chanel but i love it so much already!! The whole video shouts calmness and inner balance. Amazing quality and i love your voice its so calming. 😇🤗
Thank you so much 😊
In Brazil we show gratitude before and after the meal too, at the beginning we pray thanking the food and the willingness of those who prepared it, after eating we say "Deus que ajude" which means "God bless whoever prepared the meal" is a Sign of gratitude and respect ❤
I love that! So beautiful ♥️
Even in Sweden it is considered good manners to thank (the cook, the hosts etcetera) for the dinner before you leave the table. And we also have those coloured charts in school to learn about nutrition and balance, called "the food circle". Our famous fermented, salted herring divides the nation, though. Some hate it because of the smell, others - like me - love it.
Enjoyed this video very much. I'm so sorry you had a bad experience in America. It's sad whenever people are not enjoyed for who they are
I love natto and I'm not Japanese and didn't grow up with it. Ever since I started eating it every day for breakfast, my digestive system is better, my skin is better, my appetite is decreased and my energy is increased. I can definitely recommend people trying it.
I know its not for everyone but I love it, it's a super food!
I am so happy I came across your channel. I have always been fascinated with Japanese culture and have recently had some health issues and thinking more about the Asian culture vs American culture lifestyle. Thank you so much 💓
thank you so much 💓
As a half and half who grew up in the US, I came back to Japan and love my ancestral country!
Sashima or Sayama green tea is one of the best drinks around. Be sure to try it! Natto is the best thing ever and we are lucky that it's so widely available in Kanto.
So many great tips here! I am bookmarking this so that I can come back to it, from time to time, as a "refresher course". Thanks for this is video, Mako. It is the first of yours that I have ever seen so I am going to check out some of your other videos and probably become a subscriber. 🥰
thank you so much 🥰
Thank you for reminding us some good habits we also have in Mediterranean, such as fermented foods, showing gratitude for the food and hot beverages!
I'm glad that you decided to appreciate your culture. I love seeing different cultures. Hello from America 🇺🇸 👋
thank you for watching :)x
I woke up 1 hour ago, I have an exam today, I’m eating for the first time since a long time vegetables for breakfast, and making some tea🤍
best of luck with your exam
I don't like to eat junk food, I really like healthy food and I like to eat healthy food. Yeah, I like to eat fruit and I like to eat vegetables. Yo, Mako! I can't tell you how much I appreciate this, You've been a great help and You're so wise. Greetings from Lima, Peru. 🇵🇪🦙🇺🇸🗽🙂👏👏👏👍

I love Japanese culture so much. I was fortunate enough to be able to travel there and I can’t wait to go back. It was such a wonderful experience.
I really enjoyed this video and the knowledge in it! Subscribed and now I am off to watch all your previous videos 🌸🌸

Hi Mako! New subscriber here from South Africa! I lived in Japan from 2019 to 2021 and I loved it! I always call it my second home. Great video, I look forward to watching more😁
It makes me so happy to see someone living so far away from Japan is watching my video
😃I hope so too!!@@mylifeasmako
I wish we had cooking and nutrition lessons in my school💔 I’ve wanted to try natto for years! I can’t find it in any stores even the international and Asian market stores don’t sell them. I’ve placed an order on Amazon for a bundle pack. I hope I like it. If you have any more tips for how to prepare it I’d really appreciate it❤ loved this video. Will definitely implant more of these habits into my life
Hi mako, thank you so much. Life here in Italy is too fast, too stressful and I overthink a lot. I recently decided to flip things, and to slow my life down a bit. I'll try to follow your advices, thank you again! ❤
Congratulations on reaching 1K+ subscribers! Been rooting for your channel! Please keep up the great work, and looking forward to this channel hitting the 100K milestone. Congrats again, and may the subscribers, views, and loves keep rolling in 😊
thank you so much😊 I really hope so ✨
How wonderful to learn about healthy nutrition and respect for food 🍱 in school 🏫 thank you for your video ❤
thank you for watching ❤
The number 2 and 3 resonates with me. I got the advice from my mom that breakfast is the most important meal of the day, therefore I eat full. It makes me feel energized and great enough to do. things for the rest of the morning so this habit has ingrained in me. I wanna thank my mom for this!
thank you for subscribing :) breakfast really makes a difference 🍳✨
Loved this video! Especially the calm and aesthetic vibe :) I recently bought a matcha set and am so excited to start making it now, especially after watching this 😂😇
thank you so much Tika
I drink at least one cup of green tea a day (on top of my morning matcha) and have recently gotten in the habit of gently rubbing my used tea bag on the skin of my face once I a have finished drinking. Green tea is a natural toner that may also stain your skin until you wash it next. It always leaves me feeling like I am glowing a bit more. It may also help that my skin has an olive tone, and the tea emphasizes that.
Either way, anyone can do this to absorb the antioxidants directly into your skin!
thats amazing! I have green tea eye cream and its my favorite 🍵🍃
You also have an incredible talent for keeping us engaged. Your content is both entertaining and informative, and you know how to keep us hooked. Your exceptional work is a testament to your skills and expertise. Keep up the great work!
Thank you so much 🥺✨
Love this video! So wholesome & informative. Thank you so much for sharing❤️❤️
Thank you so much ❤️
Thank you Mako for sharing some of your Japanese heritage. It is meaningful for me. I live in Canada and I find that western culture really lacks connexion with nature; simple connexion of intention, body with the exterior world. It’s nice to see that these practices, ways and knowledge are still alive in Japan.
Thank you for watching :)
Thank you for this nice video! Normally people post expensive habits, but this is reachable and very easy to adapt in our life.
Thank you for watching! I’m glad you enjoyed my video 🥰
I loved how you explained things very well on the video. New subscriber here ❤️ love your editing and everything about this video.
Thank you so much! I'm so happy you liked my editing, I spent a lot of time on that
Wow! very insightful vlog. Subscribed ;)
I have been here in Japan for almost 3 years now and I am really impressed by how people observe a healthy diet or lifestyle. Having been through a lot of ups and downs, I have come to realize that my home country is just as precious as living outside of it. I found a "home" in Japan and I loved it! And always looking forward to feeling the warmth of my 1st "home" again, my 1st love - The Philippines :)
Also becuse of you I will try something else, since your storytelling is soooooo good :)
Such good inspiration :)
THANKS for this!
thank you so much!!
Thank you, wathcing this makes me feel that I can nurture my body and soul in a better way. I think I have been treating them quite badly with all the overeating and lack of water consumption.
Thank you for watching 🤍✨
I love the creator journey you're on
Thank you so much! :))
Looking forward to seeing more videos on how you make japanese foods! I would love to prepare some healthy japanese foods for my family and teach my daughter as she gets older.

I love Japan. I visited in March for Sakura and returning for one month for one month. Very excited for all of the tea and Muji stores
Amazing! I love peach tea from Muji!
How wonderful of you to share your way of life I find it so interesting and enjoy learning from you god bless and thank you so much x
My dream vacation is Japan :)
Next year is the plan to go to Japan!
Another good video :)
I wish I was born in Japan 😊.
I am currently in Japan. My dream came true. I started to do some of those rules that you have in Japan that you mentioned, especially about food.
This video was very informative and interesting to watch. I've always been fascinated by Japanese culture and think that for sure we could practice better eating habits like this in the West! Hopefully one day I can visit Japan and experience more of the fermented foods like natto too 😊 i can't find it anywhere nearby me 😅
I think I’m part Japanese habit wise. I’ve followed most of these habits unconsciously. I’m Indian and vegetarian and I’ve had home cooked food for most of my life. An underrated aspect of overall health management for everyone!
that is amazing! ✨
I really loved this video! I love your choice of music and your editing. You’re also so cute! New subscriber here 😊
Thank you so much! 😊
Thank you very much for this very interesting video. I was particularly surpriced by the natto trick😊
You have the best music! I love it. So relaxing!
thank you so much :)
The 80% rule is interesting. I began practicing it decades ago without even knowing it! I stopped eating before I was full or even before my taste buds (so to speak) were satisfied. I am not sure what prompted me to do this but I always stayed slim. I fell out of this practice some years ago and also entered my senior years (= slower metabolism) at the same time and you can imagine the results, especially in 2020 and 2021! Seeing this video reminds me that I need to go back to that way of eating again.
Loved! This video was sweet, thank you!
thank you :)
Thanks for you video! I love Natto! and really admire Japanesse lifestyle :D
Thank you so much 🍣
Wow, you’ve gained over 1000 subscribers in 3 days! Congratulations! 🥳

Love your video, so calm and relaxed. make more!!
Thank you :)
😬 I am sooo guilty of going to a convenient store a lot when I am back in Japan. This is very insightful and makes me have a different perspective and want to approach with better habits. I absolutely love natto!!
haha, maybe you can balance out by eating natto here and there :) lol
@@mylifeasmako 😂 yes and also 7-11 hijiki salad 😋 definitely going to be more aware for health

Thank you for your comment 🫶🏼✨
i love japanese culture and cuisine, thank you so much for this video❤ was very interesting ❤❤❤
Thank you so much
Loved the video and all your great info. I learned a lot
Greetings from Los Angeles
I hope you always love and appreciate who you are and your culture. All cultures are beautiful, and there is so much to learn from all our differences. The US would not be what it is, if we we were not a nation of many cultures. I am American, and proud to be so, as well as proud of the multi cultures that I come from. You are beautiful.
I agree :) the diversity in culture is beautiful ❤️
Love 80% rule. Thanks for sharing ❤
I’m just started learning Japanese cooking, your food looks so delicious and healthy 👍🏼
Your video and story are really inspiring ❤
Thank you so much ❤️✨
Hello Mako your channel is so inspiring. I really like Japanese lifestyle
Thank you so much!
Love this video. Thank you so much, it is a true inspiration.
thank you for watching :)
When I miss Japan, it is often a food memory that triggers the feeling. I love and miss Japanese cuisine. Sharing a meal makes people like each other or as the feel closer with strong bond. Eating the same food leads to trust and cooperation because they feel closer with the feeling of intimacy among those eating together, share the experience with eating and drinking.
thank you for watching, I agree, food is honestly the best part of Japan!
I miss Japan!! Best place I’ve ever lived
Amazing video Mako. I'm actually visiting Japan in a few months. Super curious what natto tastes like 😆
Thank you, that’s exciting! Adding the natto sauce, soy sauce, green onion, and raw egg is my favorite (even though some people might hesitate eating raw egg.)
This way of eating works well for me. I would like to take my time eating my meals at work, but a half hour meal break is not enough. However, I carve out a way to enjoy my meals with aesthetic dish ware and decorative table linen as I listen to lofi music. Thank you for sharing!
Thank you for watching :) I love lofi!
My family and my stepmother are Serbian, but my stepmother resents Serbia and does not think of herself as Serbian anymore. I think it's important to embrace both cultures and rediscover the good as you have done.
That’s amazing! It’s great to keep the best of both :)
Agreed. Embrace what is good in both cultures. As an Asian American, I see pros and cons in both western and southeast cultures.
It’s beautiful. We have a few of those followed here in India too, but definitely by the more self-aware individuals. ♥️🍁
Thank you so much ❤️✨
japanese culture is my favorite culture! thanks for the video !!
your skin, hair and eyes are so fresh and pretty. You are doing something right for sure.
Thank you!
Yessss please make a video about how to make nato ❤
Thank you for sharing, i love japanese culture ❤❤
Thank you so much ❤
I am a Japanese student and I love your vlogs ❤❤❤❤❤❤
Grate video. I really enjoyed the peace in you. Love from Holland 😊
Thanks for the tips! This is great
Thank you :)
Really enjoyed this video thank you 😊 ❤
Glad you enjoyed it! 😊❤
Thank you for this!!
Thank you for watching :)
Came here for nato. The Scottish equivalent is sowens, fermented oats. The smell is dependent on the bacterial cultures. You can use probiotic supplements with different strains of bacteria to help the fermentation... L. Gasseri, for example, is linked to weight loss, (supposedly) because it encourages leptin production.
Tout est magnifique Bravo à vous and all the best for you and your adorable chien
