Yes it will. After you get it open the latch unbolts from the bottom. The lock cylinder is held on with a slide clip. Hope this helps Thanks for watching and commenting.
@levydan4370 with the plastic trim panel off and the metal panel removed you can get to the latch assembly and all the window workings as well as the window run channel. I'd also spray lube into the latch from outside (hatch open) Hope this helps, let me know.
I did it on the video just as I did it on the 4runner and that's all it took. Sorry yours is giving you a problem. I don't know what is different or what advice to offer. Good luck with it
I got rear ended back in September last year and my rear has been dented and shut in. When I can I’m gonna attempt this and see what happens. Worse comes to worse I gotta take it to an auto body shop…
@@funjunkiegarage thanks man! Thankfully I was the only one who was in the 4runner at the time as I was coming from my college campus… If you go check my channel out you can see the video I posted from my dash cam from that day… Bums me out every time I see it since I’ve been driving this 4runner since my highschool days (since 07)
The latch can be removed from the hatch, if it's frozen it's easy to free up when it's out. The cables come out with the latch and connect to the key cylinder. The rod goes to the outside handle. That can all be lubed up or removed with the glass up Hope that makes sense and helps If all those pieces are able to be freed up and operating properly you should have a working hatch. Best of luck, let me know how it turns out.
Thanks for watching. I have that in the works. A video will be up afterwards. There are a couple kits available, but I'll show how to do it without a kit.
I did not. I worked on it for a bit with a plan to do it but I never followed through. There are a couple kits available that are simple and easy to install. My idea of an electric switch was much more complicated. And there are 4 different wire harnesses depending on what year 4runner you have. I just felt it wasn't a good idea to proceed. I don't currently have a rear hatch to work with. If you google it you can find the cable pull method, which is quite simple, but not my idea. Hope this helps.
There was one I saw on Facebook a while back. There are some other videos that show some ways to do it. I was gonna put in an electric release, but don't see a need for it. Here is a link to one guys method. Thanks for watching. ua-cam.com/video/oARdyLbogIQ/v-deo.html

Will this method of disassembly work to replace the lock too?

You have to lift the plastic panel to pull it out of the window. In that state, do not roll the window down, as it can get scratched.
Appreciate the tip.

Any substitute for using that clip pulling tool? (Don’t have one) tried using a flathead and some other stuff but didn’t seem to work
Hmmmmmmm.
Do you have a cheap screwdriver you can bend the edge up a little? Just need enough to catch the lip of the cover.
Thanks man!

Does anyone know how to do this to a 2011?
Is there more to it cause I followed your step and it’s not opening 1998 4runner

I disconnected the battery and that was what caused mine to not open. Somehow the latch is tied to the power . Not cool...
I did not know it had to have power to open.
Hmm, interesting. I’d like to have something to pull that latch from the inside. Instead of climbing out of back door when camping

@@funjunkiegarage Thanks for posting and thanks for the suggestion. Take care.
What did you do to prevent this from happening again ?
I lubed it real well and worked the latches (while apart) to free things up.
I have lost all respect for Toyota. No more ever again
Bummer, what happened?
Thank you!!
