    You are very smart and knowledgeable about cars ..eventho I'm confused being that I dont know anything about working on cars lol..its very detailed. This video can help a lot of people out.Thanks😊

      I hope it's useful! Let me know if you have any questions. It's pretty simple once you have the door trim panel off and can see what goes where.

    This is great! Definitely going to do the door latch.
    Curious though if it would be possible to just swap the centre console rear window switch from ignition to battery power instead of mounting a new switch? I camp in mine as well, and don’t find the console switch hard to reach.

      You could definitely just use a constant 12V instead of through the ACC. I just liked the switch in the rear as an additional option since I like laying my head towards the rear of the truck.

    Can the window go all the way down? Doesn’t it hit the rear latch cable you installed?

    • @agraygoat
      @agraygoat  Рік тому

      The window goes all the way down as there is enough slack. The tube protects the line. Nothing snags and has worked well for me so far.

    Do you have a video on how to instapl the string for the release mechanism?

    • @agraygoat
      @agraygoat  Рік тому +2

      It's actually at ~30 second mark and I circled it in the video. I just used a keyring looped into the hole in the latch which pulls up.

      @@agraygoat i see it now thank you. Do you remember by chance what size/type string and tubing you used? Was looking on amazon but there are a ton of different sizes.

      @@thomasjefferson3552 - I don't to be honest. I had the line laying around (used something strong like Spectra) and a tube that'll fit around it. You should be able to get a piece from any hardware store.

    Not sure what year your 4Runner is but on my 2002 SR5 I insert the key in the lock on the back door and I can roll down and up the back door window by holding the key turned. Warning: because I've rolled down the hatch window so any times using the key, the plastic screw holes that are part of the license plate bezel and that hold the key lock broke and I had to replace the license plate bezel. A PITA.

    • @agraygoat
      @agraygoat  3 роки тому +3

      This particular one is a 1997, and I believe that all of the 3rd gens can roll the back window down with the key from the OUTSIDE. I wanted to be able to roll the window down from the back while INSIDE (when you're sleeping in the back) without having to go to the front, turn the key in the ignition and use the back window switch in the center console. I tapped into the same wiring and added a switch to the rear panel so that the window could be lowered from the inside. I made a little pull latch to open the hatch from inside as well. The broken license plate bezel problem does sound like a PITA indeed.

      @@agraygoat I have to admit that I didn't watch the whole video because I was only looking for a video to show me the proper position of the black back plate to reinstall it. Your video helped and yes, it makes sense to have a switch inside in your case :)

    Interesting mod. could you program your fob to lower the window or raise the back window? I would like to see a way to open the back hatch from inside the vehicle without having to lower the window.

    • @agraygoat
      @agraygoat  2 роки тому

      With a receiver, I'm sure you could program it to lower the back window with a FOB. I stripped my truck down to make it lighter and more reliable so I actually have very little in regards to electronics. I made a manual latch so that I could exit from the trunk from the inside using a line (I used a strong line like Spectra) that is connected directly to the latch (do you see the white tube at the 1:06 mark?). I'm using that as a sheath to run my line to minimize chaffing). When I pull up like at 7:45, I can exit the rear.

    What is the blue cable connector below the control module with all the white/black wires coming out?

    • @agraygoat
      @agraygoat  3 роки тому

      I think that was a place where a bunch of the wires could be ground together. I would have to take a closer look the next time I open the panel up to be sure.

    Does the inside latch work with the rear window down fully?

    • @agraygoat
      @agraygoat  9 місяців тому

      The nylon tubing keeps it from snagging on anything, and it does open with the window down fully.

    Do You know how to replace a sun visor? Mine was hanging down the screws fell and so I just pulled it out lol.. But I need to try and see how to replace .. I think it will be expensive going to the dealer for something that seems simple but it might not be as simple as it seem.

    • @agraygoat
      @agraygoat  3 роки тому +1

      Don't go to the dealer for something like that. Sun visors are usually pretty easy to replace if you have the parts. Any local repair should be able to help you out. If you want, shoot me an email with some pics and I can try to walk you through it. agraygoat@yahoo.com

I gotta figure out where to order it from tho I'm not trying to pay a lot of money for a sun visor.. Do I have to get the same one i had before or would any visor do? I will email 2mro with the pic tho.thanks

    Hey!! Would replacing the latch fix my door jam light!? Mine keeps blinking all the time even when the trunk is shut.

    • @agraygoat
      @agraygoat  2 роки тому

      It could be a number of things. Is this for a T4R? If not, some of the trunk switches have adjustments on them (where is can push the switch out more or shim it to meet the trunk/door sooner). The problem with the T4Rs (mine anyway) is that it's used really hard, the truck flexes, and it's been banged around a bit. My trunk and doors switches were angry too. I disconnected mine since my truck is far from straight. Let me know, and I'll see if I can walk you through stuff.

    Did you tie the string too the lever or did you use something else?

    • @agraygoat
      @agraygoat  3 роки тому +1

      I used a key ring and a little nylon tubing on the ring to prevent chaffing. The string was an old shoelace that I had, but you could use something stronger like Spectra that has very little give and is really abrasion-resistant.

  • @Deheader

    How does your window not hit your get out mod?

    • @agraygoat
      @agraygoat  3 роки тому +1

      I am using a nylon tube with the string running inside of it. The string is tied onto a keyring which attaches directly to the latch at the very bottom. The line and tubing run on the inside of where the window runs. I used the nylon tubing to protect the abrasion-resistant string just in case if anything (like the window) rubs up and down on it. Let me know if that didn't make sense.

    Has anyone done this for a 5th gen?

    • @agraygoat
      @agraygoat  3 роки тому

      The idea is the same. Run a cable to the latch and pull it to open the hatch from the inside. If the 5th gens can roll down the window from the outside, you just tap into those wires by tracing it from the lock cylinder.
