Couldn’t find the shim until I was cleaning up afterwards. How screwed am I for not having it installed?
I wouldn't think it could cause a big problem. I've done some of these that didn't have a shim to start with (at least by the time I got to it). I can't say for sure, but I personally wouldn't be concerned.
Ofcourse your chevy is acting up, your wearing a Toyota hat!
I have since seen the error of my ways. Chevy hat has been purchased. Thanks for watching and sharing your knowledge, much appreciated.
I have a 2001, average 18.5 highway empty, around 17 around town. Towing a 12 ft single axle with a SxS (around 3300 pounds total) with another 600 in the bed it drops like a rock to 10mpg over 1800 miles from NM to Florida on I-10 with a strong headwinds. Hoping to get 12 mpg on way back with hopefully tail winds.
I hope you get that tailwind on the way home, It'd be nice for sure. Amazing how badly the mpg drops when towing. Have a safe trip. I appreciate you watching and sharing your experience.
Sorry, asking again. Do you have a video of swapping a 2.4L 4 cylinder in a 1997 Tacoma?
No, sorry, I do not
great video, did everything you did and I couldn't believe it, solved my idle issue. "my videos are so hot that it overheated" had me laughin lol.. thanks you man.
You're welcome. Glad you enjoyed the video, happy to hear it fixed your issue. I definitely appreciate you watching and supporting my channel
After watching this video a month ago I decided to buy a cheap bearing from Rock Auto. If the cheap carrier bearing last 50,000 miles, that is ten years for me. Thanks for the video. I ordered one on close out from Rock auto for $11.00. Maybe it will last a five years.
Nice, I buy lots of stuff from Rock Auto close out. I hope you get good use from it. Thanks for watching and sharing, I appreciate your support of my channel
Clean 4runner
Thanks, it is a nice one.
@@funjunkiegarage No problem, always great to see a clean 4runner every once and a while, how many miles does it got?
@Cat03-uo9it , it's just got 140,000 miles on it. Barely broken in.
@@funjunkiegarage Nice! I just got a 94 pickup 4x4 that has 180k, 22re.
@Cat03-uo9it very nice. Love the 22re. Enjoy your new truck.
Glad to see you on here wrenching on stuff man, hope you’re recovering well!
Thank you brother, feels good to be out in the shop for sure. I'm doing very well, couldn't ask for more.
Thanks for the vid! I was having trouble getting the CVs to pop in. Seems like I’m not hitting it hard enough. A lot of people I’m asking seem to not know about these specific CVs, making me feel crazy 😂 glad I found your video for proof lol
You're welcome. I hope you finally got them in. Yeah a lot of people don't know about these, and they are actually very good units. Thanks for watching and commenting I appreciate it.
@ I got them in this morning! I had a bit of play on the passenger side where the CV meets the differential.. is that normal? The driver side has no play at all.
@_Panduh_ a 1/4" to 3/8" of play is normal on either side. No play at all is more unusual. But not unheard of. Glad you got them installed.
Done this job many times between my old '97 and the boys trucks. Each time it was a different combination of beating, prying, and cussing. Ratchet straps are definitely a necessary tool for the job. The next chevy issue to check on your truck is the rusted brake lines along the drivers side frame rail behind the fuel tank. This is another common problem with these trucks.
Thanks Mark, I'll be sure and check those brake lines. Don't need a brake failure. There certainly is no easy way to change springs on an old truck in the rust belt. I had been putting it off for a couple weeks now. I appreciate you watching and definitely appreciate your continued support of my channel. See you soon my friend.
Crazy dude. Can't believe it landed somewhere you could stick it back in without having to whittle a wooden plug along the side of the road.
It was crazy, everything I needed to fix it was on the ground where I stopped. I was blessed for sure.
I get the philosophy of changing the water pump since you're in there, but I've never seen a Toyota water pump fail at 90k. Realistically you could just change the belt and maybe the tensioner and have no problems. Especially taking out original Toyota parts and swapping with aftermarket Chinese versions...
Yeah, I agree, it could be done that way. Thanks for sharing your knowledge. I appreciate you watching and commenting
What do u mean by staking it?
To put a dent in the nut, driving it into the void in the shaft. It keeps it from working loose.
Ok thanks
@joshuarhodes9022 you're welcome. Thanks for watching.
He's fine let it roll.
Yep, I rode it out.
@@funjunkiegarage Can't go wrong with a 1st gen tundra. Things are tough as nails. I've got 2 of em. Great trucks
Agree, this is my 2nd one. Definitely my favorite.
this poor 3rd gen 😭
It was a very rusty unit, we had lots of fun with it.
4runner Simple!
Gotta love a 3rd gen
This video has convinced me that I don't need 35s lol. All I do is camp, fish, and maybe some mild trails just to reach a hunting spot. I don't need 35s, I wanted them because they look great. I will be sticking with 33s lol. I am still on factory wheel with factory size tires, I will upgrade to 33s with what little modification those require. 35s require too much cutting for my comfort and not willing to pay someone to do it.
Right on. Don't go bigger if you don't need bigger. You'll be happy with 33s. All my other 3rd gens had 33s and I wheeled them all over. Thanks for watching and sharing. I appreciate it.
20:55 I’m currently in this situation. Except I want to rebuild my rack so destroying it isn’t an option lmao
I wish you all the best in getting it apart. Never tried to save one. Let me know how it turns out please. Thanks for watching and commenting

Changed my fuel pump, fuel filter, changed my oil, changed my spark plugs and my truck still won’t turn over. Cranks but won’t start. Super depressing
That is depressing. What's it not getting? Spark or fuel?
@ I had a short in my 15 fuse. Truck is up and running again
Excellent, happy to hear it was simple to fix. Electric issues are my least favorite for sure. Thanks for letting me know.

Love the yota but the Cherokee taillights are sacrilege
Thanks, I love it too. Those are just generic Amazon taillights, not from a Jeep. Thank you for watching and commenting
@ Thank you for clarifying. I’ll sleep better knowing that for sure. I’m a bit of a Toyota purist. Not to the extent that I’m against anything aftermarket but the thought of Jeep parts just felt wrong for some reason. I knew they weren’t stock Cherokee taillights but the shape, size and style look similar to some aftermarket led taillights from the final and only revamp the Cherokee ever saw. The actual Cherokee, not that recent joke a 16 year old girl would drive and think she was off-roading every time she parked on the field during soccer practice. Chrysler/Mopar are great at selling the Jeep image. The CJ was the last real jeep IMO. Toyotas earned their legendary off road status. They’re definitely great for building off roaders from vehicles or parts most people would consider scrap metal. I’ve had several Toyotas, all 4WD. In fact other than a few vintage Honda bikes, I’ve never had anything but a Toyota 4WD. I’m on number 15 at the moment. I’ve owned 3 of the 1st gen 4runners and am 86 4WD pickup, which is no different really. My dad has owned at least 30. No joke. And that’s a conservative estimate. Probably closer to 50 actually. We’ve got a lot of random parts, if you ever need anything specific, let me know. We bought and completely gutted 2 first gens that were totaled because my dad, brothers and myself have always had them. Shed full of completely random parts. I dig your work and your content. Keep it up
@Kris-o7l thanks for sharing, I've had a bunch of Toyotas myself. Definitely my favorite brand. I really appreciate your support of my channel.
Told my wife I needed a special tool for this job and showed her Slim. She said 'no' and walked away, so I suppose I won't be able to do this job.
What!?!?! Gotta have a furry garage helper. It's still possible to get the job done, just less enjoyable for sure. Thanks for watching and supporting my channel, much appreciated.
Glad you made it Wrapping the strap around the brake line is crazy though 😅

Super awesome video. I own a 2000 Toyota tundra 4.7 red just like yours and I need to replace the shocks probably blaistens 4600 I also have a 2003 Toyota Tacoma 3.4 v6 5 speed manual and a 2005 Toyota highlighter that is my favorite absolutely love it 3.3
Thank you. Sounds like you have a nice fleet of Toyotas. Thanks for sharing. I appreciate you watching and supporting my channel.
@ absolutely I only buy Toyotas because they are so freaking reliable. I sold my another 2003 Toyota tundra v6 3.4 2WD single cab long bed with 489k miles I had owned for 13 years and the only thing I replaced was the fuel pump and new hose for the radiator I bought it with 193k miles and sold it with 489k running perfectly ac heater everything was working perfectly but I I had my Toyota v8 4.7 4x4 so I sold the v6 since I have a 2003 Toyota Tacoma same engine 3.4 v6 4x4 manual. And I bought a 2004 Lexus RX330 for my girlfriend same engine as my 2005 Toyota highlighter 3.3 amazing. My highlighter are my favorite amazing in gas so smooth fast AWD and so affordable I paid $2500 and had been amazing zero problems.
@ my 2000 Toyota tundra 4.7 V8 4x4 like yours has a little problem the 4x4 light blinks and doesn’t engage the 4x4 . I believe is the transfer case actuator switch. I need to fix it or replace it
@MOUSEBOWEN those actuators get corrosion inside them, it's easy to take off and clean them
@ awesome I was thinking was that probably get dirty or dirt . I will clean it up and hopefully that can fix it

The bumper is homemade. I built it and did the rear bumper and sliders as well. All my build videos are on the channel if you're interested. Thanks for watching and supporting my channel
What locker did you use in the rear? Thanks
I installed a Lock Right auto locker. Works great and I'm very happy with it. Thanks for watching and commenting
@@funjunkiegaragedo you like it better than the truetrac?
Yes I do like it better. For offroad use I'd definitely recommend a locker over limited slip.
I'd still rather have a first gen Tundra than almost any Tacoma.
Yeah, I'd have to agree with that. Love my 1st gen Tundra. Thanks for watching and commenting
@funjunkiegarage I replaced my '00 a few years ago.(My son drives it now) Had the 💰 to get whatever, but ended up finding and buying an '04 DC 4wd with 48k miles. Southern truck. Like new. One owner, AC garage kept, factory maintained. It was a unicorn. All for the price of a down payment on anything new.
@alabama2uz that's awesome, I'd rather have an old truck with no payments anytime. Sounds like you found a great example. Enjoy those 1st gens!

@@funjunkiegarageI knew it lol didn’t sound like a 4.7 or a hemi, I had a 2002 with the 5.9 and I tried to blow it up and eventually gave up, they are tough as hell
Yeah, I had to overheat this one to get it to seize
I would of bought it for a winter beater
I tried to sell it for 3 weeks prior. It was really clapped out

Im in the process of doing this swap. I have the 3.4 engine and a340f trans together inside the chassis but the transmission mount isnt ligning up with the mount. The trans has to go back about 1 inch but the oil pan and exhaust wont let it come back. Did you have to relocate the trans mount too?
Yes I did have to modify the crossmember. Here is the link to the video showing what I did. ua-cam.com/video/NLSWMmlFSWE/v-deo.html Hope this helps. It's still doing fine and has presented no problems.
Sir you put it on backwards you got to flip it around
