This generation are not musicians, well there are a couple but thats it. Billy strings is a musician and marcus king. A few more more but most are rappers and computer synthesizers.
If from Spartanburg papa went to school with the band members him and Doug were good buddies papa owned a chain clothing store called the kollege inn and they come in and buy all the western clothing the clothes the Marshall tucker band are wearing in this video papa probably sold them to them
My daughter was in va beach where she bought an original rumors album. She asked the owner if he had any Marshall Tucker albums and he asked why she would be interested in that. She said that’s what my dad brought me up on. The man said that I knew my music and taught her right
The best era for music, bar none. Still can't believe that Charlie just passed. I had the pleasure of meeting him at one of his shows in Austin, TX a few years back. All the good ones are leaving us. RIP Charlie, the Caldwell boys, the Allman brothers, Skynyrd. At least their music will live on.
1972- I had just got out of the US army and my wife and I moved back to Wisconsin from Germany where I was an MP. Rosie and I owned almost nothing and had zero in the bank. I started back at the Glass plant driving forklift where I had been when drafted. We had one child at the time. I worked 16 hour shifts six day a week so we could get back on our feet. One of our first major purchases was a nice stereo. The kind in a beautiful wood cabinet that you don't see anymore. I bought Together forever by the MTB soon after and to this day they might just be my favorite band of all time. We saw them live in Milwaukee years later. I think Tommy and Toy had passed. I cover " Asking too Much " on Burlington Bill here on you tube. Thanks for posting their music!
I saw Marshall Tucker many of times at Red Rocks back in the day. After they were done Toy would come out and play by himself he loved it so much. Miss those Days
I remember playing Marshall Tucker Carolina Dreams for a friend. He liked it so much I ended up giving it to him to keep. We're were about 19 maybe 20 and the whole Southern Rock movement really connected with all of us. That music still touches my soul to this day and I know it always will. If you're from the South no explanation is necessary, if you're not no explanation will suffice.
It is always great to see a stage full of musicians cranking it out and making an all-star jam out of it. RIP all of those on here who have passed, you are missed but your music lives on!
Pearl snap shirts, boots, leather belts, cowboy hats and you can’t pin a genre on these musicians! Good folks and real God fearin men! Blessed to have been brought up in this era.
Trucker song, mention of "white loader right down to the door" White Tractor, with fully loaded trailer....this song was on my mix tape back in the 1980's and I was a truck driver, paid to travel but piloting a big rig in some places of America is heroic to say the least. I felt akin to my Uncles and Dad who where aircrew in WW2, and survived. They seldom talked about it when sober, only at family celebrations did the real stories come forth. That is my story Thanks for posting this song....much respect and RIP to the Tommy & Toy Caldwell Bros. seeing this LIVE was transcendent to say the least.....
The fellowship and brotherhood of Southern Rock in the 70’s was a family unlike any other. What a great time to be alive and appreciating so many levels of talent and musicianship. All of these boys played music because it meant something back then. It was for the joy of playing and making people happy because of it.
I'd say the difference between this and what we have today is like the difference between home cooked Sunday dinner at Grandma's house with the family all there, and a funky stinky old stale baloney sandwich out of the vending machine at the bus station. No earthly possibility of comparison.
Imagine a time when music was music just for the sake of music. R.I.P. good music. This dinosaur misses you terribly...like a friend that's passed on. Damnit.
A-W-E-S-O-M-E ...! Ever since 1973's "Where We All Belong" album set, TMTB is still my favorite Country-Rock Band of all time. And to have Charlie Daniels there too ~ SUPERB...!
That would'a been the year of this concert.....1975. They released their first album in 1973. I know...I saw em then and they hadn't released "A New Life" yet much less "Where We All Belong." They didn't even play 24hrs at a Time when I saw them cause they hadn't written it yet.
Brings tears to my eyes and joy in my heart saw these folks back in the day. The talent and excitement they brought to the stage was nothing less than electric. Toy Tommy Charlie and the rest of the band your music lives forever in my heart. Thank you and Good Night
It don't get no better, saw the MTB 30+ times throughout the 70s and early 80s. Met Doug and George and got to have a beer with Charlie in 83, lucky to grow up in them times, thanks for posting this
Saw them at the University of Minnesota when I was a teenager. We smuggled a Sixpack of a nationally known barley pop. I'll never forget this song. Thanks for the post!
the original Tucker band was so incredible! so much talent & chemistry that tied together to produce some of the best dang southern rock ever! CDB still honors those boys at most of their concerts.
I listened to this live on WNEW when I was 15! I recorded it reel to reel to cassette and put thousands of miles on them!! To see the video is so cool!!!
On this Christmas Eve I sit not alone but with my father in my heart who turned me on to these guys... such beautiful music brings a tear to my eye being able to enjoy this and think about my pops rockin out with me to this. Charlies fiddle is out of this world, he is having the time of his life up there. Tommys bass solo and Toy jumping back in with him is pure magic, and ol Jerry bringin the wind, the love and connection of two brothers who are just playing their hearts out with their thumbs. Absolutely astonishing, an outstanding performance!
Toy lost Tommy and his other brother Timmy a week or so apart in separate auto accidents. How devastating was that for a kind, brilliant man? It certainly marked the end of that MTB era.
We live in Houston, TX and this is just another video for my son's rock n' roll history lesson. He had the chance to see MTB in New Braunfels, TX at the historic Gruene Hall and he told me after, and I quote, "Wow dad that music really has a feeling to it." He's gonna learn...oh yeah he is gonna learn...LOL!
My dad brought me up on all this same stuff...i was born in 83... When I got into my 20s the music only aged like wine... Now nearly 40...its a mix of nostalgia, memories of the old man, and memories of raising a whole lot of hell jaming good music and dtinking cheap beers
Allman's has Whipping Post...Skynyrd has Free Bird...Outlaws have Green Grass and High Tides...MARSHAL TUCKER BAND has 24 Hours at a Time. All great jam songs from a great Era...'77 MTB was one of my favorite shows at the Capitol Theatre in NJ
I saw them in Charleston,W.V. a couple of times and at a smaller venue at W.V.Weslyan college. My wife amd I met George McCorkle after that show.Such a nice guy. Toy was too cool for school.
I WAS THERE FOR THIS CONCERT, CDB'S VOLUNTEER JAMS WERE THE BEST CONCERTS THAT I HAVE EVER BEEN TO, R.I.P., TO ALL OF THOSE THAT ARE IN ROCK AND ROLL HEAVEN, AND THANK YOU CHARLIE, YOU ARE ONE OF THE MOST GIVING PERSONS EVER TO WALK ON EARTH, COUSIN FIGEL
We used to Have the Georgia Jam at Fulton County Stadium in Atlanta every spring. I saw this exact same line up in 1977. Probably within a few days of this. The memory remains, and will remain until my final day.
Their version of “ thrill is gone” on this album is legendary. Doug s vocals amazing. And a better lineup of southern rock. Can’t be outdone. Truly historical I’m soo glad it was caught on film
and that's what us musicians call getting in the pocket getting in the groove when everybody smile and you're having fun and it's worth it and now you know why you play music
Roosterman Going to say that the other Music isn't half as good as the Best M,T, BOYS are They Have All WAYS A true friend and my son is the one who is the reason I am a Big fan
This was my unforgettable experience at the New Haven Coliseum on July 14, 1979: A friend and I, who'd earlier in the day gone to the SunFest at Yale Bowl to see The Beach Boys, walked into the Coliseum in the late afternoon through the backstage/loading dock entrance and hid separately until ticket-holders started coming in. We had at least two hours to kill. At one point, I took a stroll. A Hell's Angels "security" goon saw me, got pissed off, and escorted me out. I was walking in front of that scary guy. At one point, just before we reached the exit, he hauled off and slugged me in the back of the head. It was vile and really hurt. I went straight to the Sheraton Park Plaza Hotel where the bands stayed and asked at the front desk for Marshall Tucker's manager. I was given a room number and told I could go up to see him. His name was Joe McConnell. I told him my story. He was so empathetic and angry. He told me "I'll take care of you. Let's go back there. I want you to show me the guy who attacked you." We went back shortly before Orleans ("Dance with Me" and "Still the One") came on stage to open. I found the gang member and pointed at him. He saw me do it. The manager then found the head thug of the Hell's Angels and demanded that the goon be kicked out of the venue. That was done. Then the manager gave me a great floor-seat ticket and a backstage pass. One of the worst things that ever happened to me turned out to the most moving experiences I've ever had in achieving justice.
The Volunteer Jams were great to listen to. Wish I could have went to them. At least I got to see MTB and CDB in concert on their own many times. Where We All Belong is one of my Top 5 albums of all time. 24 Hours At A Time just rocked my teen aged world back then!
Cool. I didn't know, at the time, they were filming it, until I ran across the DVD in the $5 bin at our local Walmart about a year ago. Well, of course, I had to buy it, and go down memory lane. I see Walmart carries it on their website, although the price is now $9.99.
15 , I was totally captured by "Southern Rock" , had my feathered cowboy hat bent so far down in the front and back I had to lean back to see. Loved this era of music, by far the best
AFTER SEEINIG THIS PERFORMED LIVE ON STAGE STONY BROOK GYM CIRCA 1971/1972 to this day is the best live performances in r/r history it is a true story it actually happened I WAS THERE
I have been to that southeast corner of the USA it is a beautiful place food that you won't believe 4 months I worked in and around Atlanta I gained 16 pounds listened to the best music ever it is a place unto itself I will return the people I worked with and for became friends
1970s was an era of some of the best rock n roll bands that made fantastic music. Live concerts were the norm. Of course your ears were surely ringing when you left the venue. Surely miss those days.
I'm listening to this on a phone, and it feels like a silly tinkertoy when you remember the drums and bass hitting you in the chest. And the wail of a Les Paul like it can only wail with a big Marshall. Hammond B3's and Leslies gluing it all together and then cutting through at exactly the right moment like the sun breaking through the clouds and the whole stadium full of people all lose their minds over how good it sounds, and the rush lasts for a couple of days? Is that what you mean? Yes, I too am intimately familiar with such a thing, and words are inadequate to properly express it. There is a Zen proverb: "For those who understand, no explanation is necessary. For those who don't, none is possible"
I saw them live in (I think) 1976 in a very rare appearance in the UK at the Hammersmith Odeon with Grinderswitch and Bonnie Bramlett. Last numbers: MTB invited the support bands bands on stage! The stage wasn’t big enough! So memorable.
Marshall Tucker Band was my first live concert. Actually saw them twice in one year. Once in Norfolk Va., and at Busch Gardens, Williamsburg Va., for senior night 1981.
Saw this kinda same show 12.31.75 NYE 75/76 @ The Armadillo in Austin. Has always been in my top 10 shows ever list. MTB opening for Charlie both bands across the stage together from Midnight on.........Southern Rock and hippie gurls. I wish I had a time machine, though I doubt I would come back.
@bobo420TX Toy mentioned a club in Texas in an interview. There was 2 interviews his and Tommy. Put in Toy then mccurry. He talks about the painting about the horse jumping over the moon by Federson who got murdered trying to break up a fight. It inspired the song Searching For A Rainbow and was the cover of the album. He called The Armadillo a hot little club.
I rode my Harley from crawfordsville, IN to Spokane and back again. I had this jammin all the way. Best ever band ever and best ever ride,. Wish I could go back and do it over again MTB was the BEST..
I guess I am one lucky man to have seen the Charlie Daniels band (first time they were backup to Eric Clapton at Los Angeles Forum, Thanksgiving time 1976) and Marshall Tucker several times. Wish like heck I would have made one of those Volunteer Jams. The crap that passes for music today is just that - crap. Oh well, I guess every generation has its music, but we had the best hands down. RIP all these southern rockers that have passed, I will always cherish the memories.
Almost everyone onstage is gone now.
Wonderful moments they gave us.
This generation will never understand what we had.
But we still have Doug ❤️
Amen to that brother.
This generation are not musicians, well there are a couple but thats it. Billy strings is a musician and marcus king. A few more more but most are rappers and computer synthesizers.
Doug And Paul Riddle still kicking
Seriously what happens when we’re gone . Educate your kids, show them what good music is all about. Have faith they’ll get, good music never dies
Gather around, young people. This is a concert! No costume changes, lip syncing, or canned music. Wow. What a time for live music!
You are So right about that
Toy Caldwell, the Fastest Thumb in the South... RIP Toy, Tommy and George
Good as it gets!
NO AUTOTUNE
If from Spartanburg papa went to school with the band members him and Doug were good buddies papa owned a chain clothing store called the kollege inn and they come in and buy all the western clothing the clothes the Marshall tucker band are wearing in this video papa probably sold them to them
It still puts chills down my spine, hearing my old music. Everyone has their own era and genre... I'm just lucky this was my time and music!
My daughter was in va beach where she bought an original rumors album. She asked the owner if he had any Marshall Tucker albums and he asked why she would be interested in that. She said that’s what my dad brought me up on. The man said that I knew my music and taught her right
I hear you brother, what a good era this was..
I hear you brother, what a good era this was..
I hear you brother, what a good era this was
I ain’t got no money but I damn sure got it made cause I’ve been searching for a rainbow down here by the Arkansas line. Crank it up!!
An era of music that will unfortunately, never be seen again.
This is my all-time favorite road trip driving song.
Music that sounds like Heaven.
1972- I had just got out of the US army and my wife and I moved back to Wisconsin from Germany where I was an MP. Rosie and I owned almost nothing and had zero in the bank. Very touching story! 😢
I was lucky enough to be there at 15 years old...I'm now 64 & still love it.
Toy is an unacknowledged GOAT. That thumb work is incredible!
the caldwell bros were incredible
I saw Marshall Tucker many of times at Red Rocks back in the day. After they were done Toy would come out and play by himself he loved it so much. Miss those Days

My music during high school. the nights we spent with the Caldwell boys blaring from the car as we sat around a fire, passing a jar of clear around.
It is always great to see a stage full of musicians cranking it out and making an all-star jam out of it.
RIP all of those on here who have passed, you are missed but your music lives on!
Looks like Charlie was having the time of his life! RIP buddies!
They loved their music, and you could feel it in their playing!
Doug gray was one fantastic singer...solid gold
Yep! I love his gorgeous long hair, too ❤
People forget that Charlie can shred a guitar as good as he can a fiddle...he was a killer
I've been jamming to this tune for almost 50 years and it never gets old.
Pearl snap shirts, boots, leather belts, cowboy hats and you can’t pin a genre on these musicians! Good folks and real God fearin men! Blessed to have been brought up in this era.
Amen
What happens at the 4:41 mark where Tommy starts hammering the bass is perhaps the greatest moment in Southern Rock history...
Trucker song, mention of "white loader right down to the door" White Tractor, with fully loaded trailer....this song was on my mix tape back in the 1980's and I was a truck driver, paid to travel but piloting a big rig in some places of America is heroic to say the least. Feels the same way.. Today has it did way back when... 24 hrs at a time... Hoping that you feel the same way too...
The fellowship and brotherhood of Southern Rock in the 70’s was a family unlike any other.

one of the best jam sessions ever...to qoute Bob Seager "as the sweat pours out your body like the music that you play"
Imagine a time when music was music just for the sake of music. R.I.P. good music. This dinosaur misses you terribly...like a friend that's passed on. Damnit.
I miss them all!
Shades of Berry Oakley on that bass solo. The greatest music EVER!!!

THIS is what music from the soul feels like.
This rendition is just awesome, watch it again and again and again......
Just the hands, the heart, and the mind of each player working as one. No Autotune, no drum machines, no time "corrections" just music
I never missed them when they came through Chicago, and fortunately , that was often !!
I listened to this live on WNEW when I was 15! I recorded it reel to reel to cassette and put thousands of miles on them!! To see the video is so cool!!!

It's how Toy and Tommy's Daddy played and he taught them well.
Damn they were so good. Best Country Rock band ever in my opinion!
On this Christmas Eve I sit not alone but with my father in my heart who turned me on to these guys... such beautiful music brings a tear to my eye being able to enjoy this and think about my pops rockin out with me to this. Absolutely astonishing, an outstanding performance!
Yea the old man did the same for me brother
Toy lost Tommy and his other brother Timmy a week or so apart in separate auto accidents. How devastating was that for a kind, brilliant man? It certainly marked the end of that MTB era.
Could have been one of the best bands on the planet... I miss you Tommy and Toy.. soo very much
What do you mean COULD'VE? THEY WERE LADY!
Charlie Daniels just rocks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! He made this version of 24 HRS at a time the best out of all of them. Thank you Charlie!!!!!!!
KenB
So true.
We live in Houston, TX and this is just another video for my son's rock n' roll history lesson. Found this music around 1977 while in Navy with southerners. This is good stuff

Oh man, southern rock at its finest!
One of the best songs ever written, music was ridiculous..........The best!
Super talented band, I love the bass solo by Tommy Caldwell!
Marshall Tucker Band was my first live concert. Actually saw them twice in one year. Once in Norfolk Va., and at Busch Gardens, Williamsburg Va., for senior night 1981.
I was so lucky to these great bands together it was rocken show
Marshall Tucker Band. Totally friggin awesome.
Best damn southern rock band. We were blessed to be able to attend concerts with MT and CDB
It doesn't get any better. than Charlie Daniels and the Marshall tucker
This is great! Ty for posting!
greatest band ever to take the stage
Without a doubt
Umm.... that would be Allman Bros.
MTB is the best
Charlie, Tommy, and Toy are having an epic jam in heaven right about now
long live The Marshall Tucker Band!
I rode my Harley from crawfordsville, IN to Spokane and back again. I had this jammin all the way. Best ever band ever and best ever ride,. Wish I could go back and do it over again MTB was the BEST..
Live long fan of MTB and CDB... still blown away by their music... since 50+ years... talk about a blow
the true definition of JAM BAND
I guess I am one lucky man to have seen the Charlie Daniels band (first time they were backup to Eric Clapton at Los Angeles Forum, Thanksgiving time 1976) and Marshall Tucker several times. Wish like heck I would have made one of those Volunteer Jams. The crap that passes for music today is just that - crap. Oh well, I guess every generation has its music, but we had the best hands down. RIP all these southern rockers that have passed, I will always cherish the memories.
Back when Music was good, People were real, and all the bullshit of Political Correctness was Unknown.
No doubt!!
Fukn aye man...couldnt have said it better
I wish so bad that I was there that it hurts. Another time, another place, I wasn't quite 4 years of age yet.
I was there, one of the best concerts I have ever been to. Growing up in Murfreesboro in the 70s was the best, we had all the good music.
T.N. Thomas The best Vol Jam ever. Wish they would have returned to the MTSU Campus for future shows.
