Having been Born in 57 have listened to the greatest music on our planet and seeing the Allman Brothers twice in early 70's is something that I'll cherish, the greatest southern rock band of our generation.
Born in 59 and I totally agree. And Dickey was the absolute heart of it. His songwriting and guitar playing was absolutely sublime. Not to take anything away from his Allman fellows in the band and Lynyrd Skynyrd et al.
Yes I been lucky to have been born in 1954 so I was listening to the best thing in the world 😁 very lucky 🙏 to have remember the very late o60 tys so. I have listened to some of the greatest musician s what a beautiful life ❣️
Just heard of your passing good sir. Thanks for the songs over the years. I'm in no hurry to get dead, but when I get to heaven, one of the first things I'm gonna ask Jesus for is the concert schedule. Seems like all the good ones are gonna be there ahead of me.
Dickey Betts never gets old he put the Allman Brothers on the map the man literally coined the songs that made them who they are Warren Haynes and Dickie Betts twin guitar solos or legendary love watching those old UA-cam clips
I was born in 1959. My father turned me on to this band as my mom and dance around our playing them, Grateful Dead, Led Zeppelin and so many other greats. I really feel both lucky and privileged to have grown up with these bands. Today's youth is Justin Bieber, Britney Spears, Cardi B and its just so sad!
Chris Verich- I agree 100%. Born in 1958. I listen 98% still to music of 60-70s. Nothing compares to our era PERIOD. So much raw talent. no auto tu n e lip synch . Loop recording. Etc. We were so blessed weren't we ? I wasn't a huge Allman bros fan, but I knew Dickie Betts was sure top of the talent group. I'd put Terry Kath up there with him (rip) Chicago band guitarist
read somewhere that Dickie was such a friend and fan of Jerry's, that he payed tribute to him after he passed with the addition of frankilins tower intro to blue sky
Damn, I love Jack Pearson's work on this tune, his solo was excellent, he doesn't get the credit his talent deserves. Kudos to Dickey Betts, I've never heard Blue Sky same way twice ! Thank Ya!
@@dickeybett3304 I went to Nam. a young Marine when The Allman Brothers Band started getting rolling. Came home on leave and caught the Fillmore show. It's still amazing to me that anything managed to replace this as my favorite song of all time. Thank God a flock of Geese flew in and blew my world apart.
Betts bringing the great harmonies on guitar. The classic riffs that lended a unique sound to the to southern rock. His contribution to the ABs is undeniable.
Man what just a Good Ol Country boy...who could sing and play the Hell out of a Guitar....Oh..and by the way.. happened to be a member of one of the Greatest Rock and Roll Bands of..ALL..Time....Mr Dilly and All of Us will Miss you.. Forever...RIP.. Dickey Betts 🙏🎸😓❤️
So effortless it almost looks like he forgot he was playing. Could be standing in the 5th row just swaying with the music. And yet he plays flawlessly. Incredible
I hope this music stays with our young people. It's not just the music, it's what was going on at the time. 70 years young still love the music. R.I.P.

I saw Dickey Betts and Great Southern in 1977 at Kirkwood Meadows in California along with Charlie Daniels and Commander Cody. I think it was a great concert,I got pretty wasted. After all it was the 70’s
I had the pleasure to provide sound services for Dickey Betts and Great Southern at the Crossroads venue in Birmingham, AL promoted by Ruffino-Vaughn Promotions of New York and Birmingham. One of the best quotes, ever, was when Dwayne said "Dickey is the good guitarist, I'm the famous one."
Unless you are/were a fan of this magical band , most music fans probably have never heard of Dicky Betts . Well as we all could recite . He is a massive contributing to the ABB sound . First time I've ever heard Jack play this with Dickey and it won't be the last. Pearson is incredible, he and Betts are really making magic. I love this song so much and they played it beautifully! Damn...
My first concert was Allman Brothers on lawn of Miami Beach Jackie Gleason Auditorium August 1970. Allman Brothers opened for a band called Fantasy. Dickey and Duane together were like Zeus and Apollo, guitar gods. Rest in Blue Sky, Dickey.
Anybody else freaked out by how sweet these two make STRATS sound?????? I don't remember ever seeing Dickie with a Fender in his hands. Two of the best in the world right there
There's a video of Dickey's son Duane Betts where he takes the guitar seen here to Norm's Rare Guitars and talks about it. From what I think I remember, he said Dickey started playing Strats in the '90s. Obviously, he'll always be associated with Les Pauls, but he went through a phase.
Almost feels like blasphemy to me that they’re not playing LPs 😆 IMHO you’ll never get the warmth, tone or sustain on a Strat that you get with a Paulie. I just think for the most part, LPs/Gibsons were an integral part of the ABB sound (I know Duane liked an SG for slide). Don’t get me wrong. Derek & The Dominoes and the Allmans are my two favorite bands and I own both a Strat and an LP Standard. It’s a cool change of pace to hear this on Strats, and clearly the band felt that way too. I guess I’m just a sentimental old geezer. 😆
Beautiful. A little Greatful Dead thrown in for good measure, and look at what he is playing! I don't think I've seen him play a strat before. It sounds just as sweet. He gave us guitar music that will hopefully live on for ever. RIP
One of my ALL TIME FAVORITES OF ANY BAND. It's that good. Everything about the song os just about perfect. Not only is the music great, but the words/lyrics alone - just perfect. Just read the lyrics by themself without the music. Beautifully written.
R.I.P. Dickey Betts thanks for the music - guitar slinging/singing, forever imprinted in our ♥️ and Soul, you made that cowboy hat look Great. Peace.🤍🤍🤍
