It's just a double neck guitar. This one is Jimmy Page's signature. They have two necks because one is a 12 string, and the other is standard 6. Designed so the guitarist can play them both without having to change guitars in the middle of the performance.
Mike Gordon Actually, that double-neck was from 1962, just a standard Gibson catalog model. Blues players like Earl Hooker were known for playing it, Which might have inspired Page to get one. Oh somebody HAS to get this to Robert and Jimmy. They're gonna love you 2. And Walker saying Jimmy looks like Michael Jackson and Frodo almost made me fall out of my chair laughing. You 2 are the best : )
OK, gotta say this. Some people on this chain are insisting that the meaning of thelyrics has to do with drugs. That is NOT the case. As someone who has listened to numerous interviews with Robert Plant, who wrote the lyrics, the meaning is quite different. As Robert has said....It is a song about Fate, and something very British...almost abstract. It is a song about the return of springtime.....the birds returning...the flowers..the woods. “Its just a spring clean for the May Queen.” It’s about life renewing itself, and is a song of hope. “And the forests will echo with laughter”. “The Piper is calling you to join him”.....in the dance. He actually explained this in an interview on Australian TV in 1998. He also said that “it means nothing of all the stuff that Americans are always saying it does”. So...that’s what the song means according to the writer of the lyrics. If you want to continue to put other meanings to it because it’s more fulfilling for you, then have at it. Just know that it wasn’t the intent of the writer himself.
OK less than two minutes in and Claire wins MVR. "He has the hair I only dream of," when Robert Plant starts singing. As has said every teenage girl since 1976 when this video was released as part of the Song Remains the Same film. Then Walker fights back with the great Frodo comment. Claire earned additional strong points with her observations about the style and composition of the song, clothing of the musicians, and the "mascara face" of Jimmy Page during the solo. Walker scored a number of points with his irrepressible antics, and his observations and reactions to the 1970s visual effects like the kaleidoscope visuals during the second half of the song. His Frodo line may have been the best line in the entire reaction, but I'm still going to give the nod to Claire for quality and quantity of observations on this one. And the difference between the two necks of the guitar is that one is 12-string and one is 6-string. And yes--the 12-string is often used when they want an "electric-for-acoustic" quality to the sound they produce. Great reaction by both of you!
I thought it was Randy Wolf's estate (not the long-defunct band Spirit) that filed the suit. When he died (in a surfing situation) that was the final end of any further chance of Spirit.
You have just listened to the greatest band of all time playing the most iconic song in music history you are better off now that you've heard it. Claire you really impressed me with your analysis thanks for this reaction
Your best reaction video yet guys! It will take your whole lifetime to understand all the history of these times and where this music came from, but, you are doing very well.
this live performance always gives me chills. the original studio track is a masterpiece in it's own right, but there's something about the way they played it in NY that night. Good pickings.
Saw them in Cleveland in ‘75 and Pontiac Mich in ‘77 and both were unlike any other concerts I had been to and there were lots. They are overpowering. It would start with “Rock & Roll and by the time they got to Stairway you was in shock! I knew Page was great but live he incredible. Robert, Jimmy, John Paul & Bonzo meshed perfectly! RIP Bonzo! Need to react to Stevie Ray Vaughn “Life Without You” 1985 Passaic NJ.
When he was a kid Robert Plant used to stand in front of a mirror and practice Elvis Presley moves. I'm very thankful that he dropped all of that and got his own unique style together. Really enjoyed your analysis of one of the all time greats. A bit of criticism if I may, there was a bit of repetition on the tambourine comments, and Jimmy Page doesn't look like Frodo, Frodo looks like Jimmy Page. Oh yeah, also, Claire's comment about not listening to lyrics. If you consider that the voice is just another instrument, not listening to the words is perfectly okay and something I have always done. And also, take a look at a few of the 80's glam hair bands and you'll realise that wearing mascara is not just for the girls.
Another great video guys. Love y’all’s reactions. The Frodo comment, hair comment, and “why does he have a rip right there?” comment had me rolling in laughter.

The GOATS! Glad you watched the 1973 Garden concert. Six sting on the bottom, twelve on top. You are on to something. The twelve sting does give you an acoustic feel. They have actually performed this with an acoustic. You have to watch more from the 73 Garden concert. Plant is the greatest front man ever. The greatest band ever!
Funny story: I was 16 when I first heard this song at that time I was very much into Def Leppard and Metallica-still am. Anyway, thanks to a classmate, Stairway to Heaven was my first introduction to Led Zepplin. I had no idea what rock from the 70's even sounded like. These guys were inducted into the rock hall of fame a few years ago and Heart did a cover of this song. You guys should check that out and Heart's "Barracuda." A history tidbit: Led Zepplin was so popular in the early 70's, that Queen was often compared to them, which is funny because Robert Plant and Jimmy Page were in The Yardbirds during the late 60's which was one of Brian May's favorite bands. Brian May is a founding member of Queen.
The singer was Robert Plant, the guitarist was Jimmy Page, the drummer was John Bonham, and the keyboard player was John Paul Jones. All legends, I highly recommend you listen to more of their music. Their best album is Zeppelin 4, so I'd say that that's a good place to start
That wasn't a normal keyboard, that was a Mellotron. That's where all the flute-like music came from. It was an amazing product for the early 1970s, and John Paul Jones made it do amazing things.
Fuck fact: The band members of Led Zeppelin were only in their early 20s when they recorded their 4th and most iconic album “Led Zeppelin IV”! Perfection!👏
These kids were captivated from the first moment the song began. Only great music can do this and there is no greater band than the mighty Led Zeppelin
If you go to most concerts, if you went yesterday and then again today you would see basically the same show. It’s choreographed so everyone knows where to be when. Led Zeppelin was different every time. A song may be 4 minutes long once and 9 minutes the next time. Most everything was improvised on the spot. In fact the audio album soundtrack from what you just saw is different because it was taken from another show.
Whole project of Led Zeppelin was to show darkness and light in music. They basically created the whole soft acoustic start to build up to a raucous ending. Jimmy Page is the guitarist - he has guitar face; its a physical way to relieve tensions and guitarists usually do it because they are so concentrated and using their hands and arms so much, its an actual physical response. This is my favorite band of all time and most of their stuff is blocked on you tube, but glad you got to experience some of it. Keep rockin!
My favorite band ever... Saw them in Chicago 1977, 13 years old, Walkers age. (way to young) to appreciate, but great. Thanks for what you guys do. My Grandkids want to do what your doing. I'll have to teach them 60,70,80,90 music too. God bless

musically I prefer the studio version of this song (of most songs really)... but watching the band play the songs live just adds a ... dimension... to the music that takes the music to another level. Watching them really get into their own music and feeling their own music!
Kids, you just watched THE definitive performance of THE definitive song by THE definitive band of all time. Each of the 4 was at the time the best of the best in their field and probably remain in the top 2 or 3 to this day.
This was filmed in New York City near the end of a long tour. (1973) They look a little tired. Those double-necked guitars are VERY heavy. If you thought about flowers and sunshine, that's EXACTLY what Robert ( he wrote it) was going for. You guys are refreshingly goofy, and fun to watch. Peace ☮
Stairway was the song that started the "double guitar" boom. Lots of bands used them photo-ops. Jimmy Page has said again and again that it's impossible to play Stairway with out that 6 and 12.

Summer 1976, between 10th and 12th grade. Me and Denise, at the park, sitting in my Bel Air that I put house speakers in and an amp. Singing together not missing a word or a beat. Those were such good times indeed.
Jimmy Page is officially "Frodo" from now on. That was dead on point, probably more than they know. When Tenacious D used to play "Tribute" as a live comedy act, right after Jaybles first mentions the greatest song in the world, Kyle goes into the opening lick of this song for a few seconds. They removed that part wheb they recorded the track, for copyright reasons. So now ya know what Tribute was a tribute to.
The keyboardist is John Paul Jones who 's amazingly versatile. He is also their bass guitarist who whilst playin the keys works the bass by a pedal on the ground with his feet! pretty incredible . Jimmy is gonna come out to your house young man, and have a talk with you :-P
Claire: 1:21 "He has the hair I only dream of" HAH! Oh somebody HAS to get this to Robert and Jimmy. They're gonna love you 2.
And Walker saying Jimmy looks like Michael Jackson and Frodo almost made me fall out of my chair laughing. You 2 are the best : )
If anything it is a compliment.

Welcome to the world of Zeppelin kiddos. Music will never be the same listening to mere mortals now that you've danced with the gods of Rock.
Thank you for the alternative explanation
"makes me think of the early 1900's" bless him
OK less than two minutes in and Claire wins MVR.
Watch the rest..you might change your mind.
@@3YearsApart1613 Every girl wanted Robert and every guy wanted to be Robert.
@@3YearsApart1613 the song is about 'hope'
It's great for them to see these videos now. MTV never had Zeppelin videos. I'm enjoying them now, 50 yrs later!!!@
@@dannyharris2041 that's is nothing but raw talent 💯 they will never make bands like this let alone songs The Hammer of the Gods 🤘
Cool. "Does anyone remember laughter?" 🤘🙂 A band called Spirit sued Zep recently for plagiarism on some instrumental parts of the this song, and lost.
“ Does anyone remember Lawyers?”😉
I thought it was Randy Wolf's estate (not the long-defunct band Spirit) that filed the suit. When he died (in a surfing situation) that was the final end of any further chance of Spirit.
Robert was a rock god. 8 concerts. I am so happy that I am old! Best live band. EVER.
Thanks!
John Henry Bonham the greatest drummer in rock history R.I.P.
this live performance always gives me chills. the original studio track is a masterpiece in it's own right, but there's something about the way they played it in NY that night. Good pickings.
Led Zeppelin Is The Best 💯
Saw them in Cleveland in ‘75 and Pontiac Mich in ‘77 and both were unlike any other concerts I had been to and there were lots. They are overpowering. It would start with “Rock & Roll and by the time they got to Stairway you was in shock! I knew Page was great but live he incredible. Robert, Jimmy, John Paul & Bonzo meshed perfectly! RIP Bonzo! Need to react to Stevie Ray Vaughn “Life Without You” 1985 Passaic NJ.
Keep rocking it, guys!!
Thank you
Led Zeppelin is my favorite band, of all time!!
That Legend on the keyboard is also simultaneously playing the bass pedals his name is John paul jones
Deep Purple - Led Zeppelin - Black Sabbath ,the Godfathers of Rock & Metal Music in General!
Pink Floyd too
Led Zeppelin are legendary
This is a "Song of Hope", kiddos!
Walker: not presidential hands, just theatrical...he's expressing the mood
Thank you, guys!!!
jimmy makes the guitar sing, he makes ALOT of it up on the spot! he also either has his eyes shut or just isnt looking at the guitar for alot of his playing too
Their best album is subjective, but I agree it’s a good place to start.
These are rock gods no one can touch this band ever
That wasn't a normal keyboard, that was a Mellotron. That's where all the flute-like music came from. It was an amazing product for the early 1970s, and John Paul Jones made it do amazing things.
6:48 That moment when the best guitarrist plays the best solo of the best song in the best moment of the greatest band in hard rock history
Fuck fact: The band members of Led Zeppelin were only in their early 20s when they recorded their 4th and most iconic album “Led Zeppelin IV”! Perfection!👏
You might want to do a quick edit on your comment
3 Years Apart thanks, I just fixed.
These kids were captivated from the first moment the song began. Only great music can do this and there is no greater band than the mighty Led Zeppelin
He STILL has that hair too!!
WE NEED MORE ZEPPELIN!!
Dude/Dudette, these guys are GODS!! Bow down to Zepp
They have to do “Rock and Roll” LIVE at Madison square garden next, have them start from the beginning🤙
My favorite band ever... Saw them in Chicago 1977, 13 years old, Walkers age. (way to young) to appreciate, but great. Thanks for what you guys do. My Grandkids want to do what your doing. I'll have to teach them 60,70,80,90 music too. God bless
Go for it! We'll be your first subscribers.
@@3YearsApart1613 I also saw LZ in 1977. 3 times !!! They opened with one of their most powerful songs, "The Song Remains The Same." Their 1973 live performance from the movie is a very good representation of the power of LZ live. ua-cam.com/video/4m2FhRv8xF0/v-deo.html
I was 13 when my aunt played STH for the first time on vinyl. Marvelous moment from my childhood.
Excellent choice for a reaction video! There's a reason this song is considered as one of the best rock songs in history. You should listen to the album version too, it's a little different than the live version you played. Great video! Good job guys! Oh & I love Walker's shirt in this lol 😉👍
11:20 Not to be a bearer of bad news...but, there are indeed pictures/video of Geddy from the mid-70's where his shirt was completely unbuttoned.
Gonna find that picture and show Walker.

when i was in high school (back in the dark ages) this song was a slow dance tune at all high school dances😎😎
the guy in the white shirt is the bassguitar player, and he also plays keyboard , his name is John Paul Jones , and this concert was recorded in 1973 , in Madison square Garden in New York , long before you kids were born , but their music is timeless !!
I had that hair! I played that song (just NOT in the music instrument store!)!.... Good times! Flowers and Hippies? Yeah, good image!!! 👍🌸💐... I even used the line "does anybody remember laughter?".... Frodo on guitar!? Yeah, man!... Rockin' that🎸!... I used to really smash the piano for that last part!!!
musically I prefer the studio version of this song (of most songs really)... but watching the band play the songs live just adds a ... dimension... to the music that takes the music to another level. Watching them really get into their own music and feeling their own music!
I'll argue with anyone, best band and song ever!
Congratulations to 3 Years Apart for reaching 3 MILLION views!🎧🎧
Oh you have so much to discover in zeppelin now
Singing a secret guitar language! You're right. That's a great way of putting it and know exactly what you mean.
Peace ☮
I guess Robert was successful in bringing those thoughts to two teenagers over half a century after writing it.
Stairway was the song that started the "double guitar" boom. Lots of bands used them photo-ops. Jimmy Page has said again and again that it's impossible to play Stairway with out that 6 and 12.
Led zeppelin they are truly untouchable master's of their instruments master's of rock and roll haters its time to admit that led zeppelin are the best band ever and ever will be case dismissed
NICE REACTION- This brothers are in the correct line if they love the music. His parents are music's lovers.
Ahhh Man! She gets it!!! "It makes me think of flower. If I'm being honest." For sure she gets it!
This to me is one of their anthemic songs right along side Pink Floyd's Comfortably Numb. Great young reaction as always!
Jimmy would probably really like that you compared him to Frodo.
Anthony Hole perhaps. But it was Robert who loved Tolkien and TLOTR’s. And Robert wrote the lyrics, so......
