Farrister, that 3 section storage for "knickknacks" readily stores courier boxes [the Intrepid is stated as being great for those missions] or the 1/8 storage boxes to keep extra ammo, gear, food. In addition to decor or what not. Plus the Intrepid is first ship to allow posters as decor in the living space!
While we would in real life store courier box in a secure location, I doubt anyone would after a few trips than just toss it in the foyer for quick access as you leave the ship.

I thought this was a great review. I am a new player and got this with the starter pack a few days ago before I saw this video. I really like the Intrepid! It's got 1.5 SCU of internal storage plus the weapons rack and a three-row box rack. I have fit 16 crates inside this thing plus my pulse. I can fit eight inside the engineer corridor, eight more on the grids, and then an extra three SCU if you need it for 19 total. I haven't tried it yet, and it will take some time and effort, but I bet you can get 20 SCU in there (9 in the engineer corridor). It takes work doing it this way, but I've got a nice rhythm starting the game using this ship and it is really growing on me (although I haven't tried any other ships yet). I'll run two extra small cargo missions from Tressler down to the surface (at the same time) and then do a bunker mission with harvesting. It's about 100k for three or so hours of gameplay for me and I am having a great time. I think if you are willing to work and be creative, this is great way to start, or at least it has been for me.
Ive just moved up from the mustang alpha to the intrepid, im in love with it and ive only took less than a kilometre, im brand new and still working out what kind of missions/money i can start doing with this ship for a month or two until i move up again and get something that will suit my work more fitting but for now im as happy as can be 😃💙 Merry xmas folks, see you in heaven🚀 🌈 ✨ 🌎
My biggest complaints are the following: The struts cradling the Cargo Lifts are too close to the cargo grids, and cause aggressive and frequent collision when trying to position cargo in the grids. You basically have to set a box on the end of each grid before you can move them to the central parts of the grids. The Engineering Terminal has a tendency to take your input when trying to use the door to get back out into the hallway of the Intrepid. This forces you to move far to the left/port of the door so you can stand far enough away from the engineering terminal to have the hallway door open. The upgrades to other starters from the Intrepid include: Titan Renegade (Yes, really), Syulen and Nomad. The Freelancer and Cutlass Black are a bit big/heavy for starters.
I wound up picking it up after trying it out. I found it quite fun to fly and I think it'll great for courier missions, bunker running, and as a runabout. The larger size fuel tanks are pretty nice too, as long as those stick around. It seems like it'll be a good one for getting around pyro.
I've warmed up to the design considerably, the interior is basically perfect including the really interesting cargo lifts (yeah can't store ground vehicles, big deal). And I think having an engineering panel on board despite being a small starter ship has the potential to be a massive benefit. We're too used to judging a ship's value based on its firepower, health and maneuverability when in prime condition. Maintaining the condition is going to be important moving forward.
11:00 This ship is not made to stand and fight. The Intrepid's acceleration and top-speed, as well as it's lack of offense and robust shields make it obvious this ship is meant to "fight to run away", not fight to the death. Why does everyone assume every starter ship has to do everything? 🤔
Has the sled storage of a Mustang. Ramp access of an Aurora. Sleek aerodynamic body and a biggish gun like the Titan. Component access, homely interior and quantum range like the Cutter. Each starter has an area it excels and this one excels at feeling comfortable and liveable.
I've made at least 1 run in my Intrepid carrying 9 single SCU crates, sliding the 9th into the hallway between engineering and the cockpit. I could probably gotten another one in there. It seemed pretty stable (until the game client lost connection with the server and I woke up in a hospital gown and a destroyed ship, that is.) And this is with a PC that hates SC, and, in particular, the tractor beam. Then again, I bought it for an alt that I'm using specifically for role playing, and its vibe fits the character. He's among other traits, a Crusader fanboy, and flies wearing a Crusader ballcap rather than a helmet.
I agree with your statement that the Intrepid is a niche ship. It's nice to fly with a good interior, but at the price tag, why would you choose it over the Titan? Totally agree that it needs a second shield generator. Great review (as always).Keep up the good work and I look forward to the next
The Avenger can't jump to Pyro and if 1SCU is to be the standard minimum travel distance between systems that can be a dealbreaker being system locked unless you get help to ferry your ship. Which in itself, can be a liability. Additionally it also has less hydrogen fuel which you might feel as planets get more content and you're encouraged to remain within atmosphere for longer.
@@zeiphie Valid points. I'd feel better taking something with more teeth, say a SL MAX or a Connie, into PYRO. With rep coming in, it'll be even harder to refuel once you've aligned with a faction
@@keefybaby666 Absolutely, but if I was a new player looking at starters I won't have access to these medium ships with which to make travel more comfortable. So it's a matter of trading combat ability for freedom of traversal/general accessibility. So personally for me if I was a new player in 4.0 I'd be advised to cut my teeth in the safer Stanton but 'd still want to see Pyro. As well it may take a while for me to earn a Connie or even a freelancer, and to a new player that's a big decision to make deciding what to spend my hard earned credits on. A decision that 1.0 will only exacerbate. So say after I buy this second ship with my hard-earned savings would I even want to take my new ride to Pyro and risk losing it there? Perhaps not, maybe I'd much prefer to scope it out first with my starter ship as a sort of 'vibe check'. The Intrepid will do that for the player. Granted so does a Cutter Rambler but that's somewhat besides the point.
I honestly wish they made this "THE" starter ship. It has a little bit of every thing and is just flashy enough to make some one really fall in love with their first ship. (unlike the aurora....)
Only YOU can choose YOUR starter ship, and that applies to every player. Most players have an idea of the type of gameplay they are seeking, and therefore some investigating will lend to choice decisions. [Totally agree that the Aurora's charm is hard to find, and the older starters have been left far behind in what they offer and in price].

@@Merlox24 Soooo many ships need a gold pass: components, light and door controls, refinements to areas, and of course engineering/power management gameplay. And yes, new ships are polished compared to early ones, that is just the growth of the game and ship dev team, I guess. As the saying goes, "if you have a favorite ship you are waiting for - the later it gets made, the better it will be". Patience pays off.

As starter player with intrepid and can say: TL-DR comparison to others: * Do you want to overpay and cruise in style? - > Intrepid * OP work horse with guns? - > Titan * Scoobie doo space truck? -> Cutter * Star Trek Shuttle? -> C8X * Intrepid stylish? You dirty peasant -> i300 /////////////// Detailed: Pros: * Quantum range, I don't like docking for fuel often * Agility - greater than the Avenger Titan, which after converting it to stealth gives the feeling of a cunning scout. Cons: * 8 cargo space, but you cannot park a bike -> u can use tracer beam to put it inside, but it will glitch to death if you try to leave it on the grid and close the cargo. * placing the boxes is a pain. * Lvl 4 gun is still not enough to make the dream of flying a glass cannon come true. Bugs 3.24.3: * trying to throw a body through a side door using a tractor beam has a 50% chance of disappearing along with your belongings. * Sometimes, when running without a helmet in the corridor, you start to choke from the lack of oxygen, as if the pixels weren't pulled somewhere and the game assumes that you are outside. Decided, at least for the time being, to swap my Avenger for an Intrepid. I use the C1 as my daily driver and other larger ships when needed, but I still enjoy just doing little tasks in the small single seaters from time to time just for fun. I specifically am giving the Intrepid a shot for now since in 4.0 it'll be the only single seater with any kind of proper fuel quantity and with all stealth components, will be the perfect ship for sneaking around Pyro in relative peace. Can always get my Avenger back any time in the future if things change.
I picked it up as my starter ship, mostly because I did really like the look and feel of it, and figured I'll be seeing a lot of it as my starter, so I valued that pretty highly. I don't mind the performance being not necessarily optimal, but I do wish the cargo was a little more convenient. Even aside from the size making some even starter hauling missions inaccessible, just maneuvering the boxes around those struts to get them lined up was quite the challenge for a total beginner. Though hopefully with server meshing and removed from the IAE server loads, it will get a little easier lol
In the end, I think the Intrepid is an "upgrade" for the demographic that has adored the Rambler for a while now, as Farrister says, a home. The shield is getting "fixed" in that it will no longer be a quadrant, but a bubble, allowing it to last longer in a fight. The single s4 hardpoint is slightly better than the Rambler's 2x s2's ...but the Rambler balances it out with more missiles. In the end it is good for exactly the same kind of gameplay as the Rambler (off grid exploration, living in your ship) with a better flight profile, but no ground vehicle easily. It has significantly better storage, not just in th 8 1 scu boxes, but the living quarters having the shelves to store 3x 1/8 boxes, a great place to store your "finds".
One thing that Farrister forgot to mention, the engine is quite loud, I think it's louder than even a Drake's ship. Was expecting something more like bigger sibling the C1, but personally it's even louder than a Ares fighter. I don't mind it much when I'm not using headset, when you do put on your headset, even at 10% master volume, it still quite loud IMO.
It is a starter. It looks nice especially inside (yes that matters to me). If it had shields that were like the Aurora then it would likely just be better and we want variation not straight up better and worse options at least within the same class and size.
I actually really like the asymmetric design and crusaders design language in general. If this wasn’t a starter and was more akin to the ion I’d probably buy one. I don’t think it’s a great starter due to what other multi-role starters offer but I do like its look.
I think that if they went with the more barebones and practivcal living space of the C1, they would have had room to add a third cargo platform, or to narrow the overall width of the ship. I like the living space, but if I needed that level of comfort, I'd fly a 300i and gain a working coffee maker.
You forgot to mention the really big quantum fuel tank compared to other starting ships. The Intrepid has enough to get from ArcCorp to Microtech and back without refueling. Try this with an Avenger Titan.
I am a noob and purchased the intrepid because I liked what I saw in reviews. I like everything about it except the cargo loading. I was leaning towards the nomad and kinda wish I got it instead. I only have keyboard and mouse so I will not attempt combat. I was hoping to begin a space trucking career.
KB and Mouse is a perfectly fine way to do combat with a little practice. Maybe not high-level sweaty PvP, but perfectly fine for regular PvE. If you decide you want to upgrade the Intrepid to a Nomad after experimenting with the Intrepid a bit, it’s a simple $15 ship upgrade. Enjoy the game! :-)
It will be interesting what the engineering station can be, even if its just got one shield. What will a ship with lesser components, but with a 2nd player be able to do, when the ship got an engineering station, extra hands to repair, switch components during flight... I see some interesting balance and gameplay here.
I think to add to the manufacturer unique that all crusaders should be asymmetrical in some way and some of them should have their own unique weapons. Like imaging is the intrepid has 2 size 3 but both were in the same area as it is now but on a special kind of mount or socket specially made for the ship
CIG did a decent job designing the ship. Just a bad one pricing it on the pledge store. This should have been valued between the Mustang/Aurora starter pack and the Titan's.
Bought it.. haven't even flown it yet. Got for the LTI(ease of mind) and SC package(which hopefully make it to become my 'Sam'....... or Leia in SW RoTJ :D ) Still use 315p as my daily.. can do a few of the small hauling missions and also early game combat missions.
Nice video, thank you. This sits right next to the 300 series from Origin. Unfortunately even the 315P (Explorer) which sacrifices a weapon hardpoint only has .5 SCU of QT where this "starter" has 1.2 SCU. It's hard to know what's a game balance vs a get your money thing.
It seems to me that the Intrepid is the "engineering" starter ship. AFAIK, it's the smallest ship with an engineering panel, and it's very easy to move components from the cargo skids to and from their relevant ports. You hinted at it when you mentioned adding stealth components and swapping the gun -- this'll be a good ship if you want to tinker.
Current issue with start ships is the next better than the previous. In such unforgiving (and expensive) world you don't wanna lag behind so it feels like a waste of art/dev time since some ships will be just forgotten.
Interior looks great and it flies well, but that is about as positive as I can be for this ship. Outside, the way the big gun is presented really does not look nice, otherwise the easy recognition between this and the Spirit is a good thing. But yeah, this ship either needs a bigger shield or be able to put things other then guns on the mount to be interesting. I am thinking of scanners or tractor beams.

While i'm glad CIG increased the weapon size from its original size 3, for its price range it should have been a size 5. Price-wise it competes with the Avenger Titan and 300i, both with FAR more firepower and shields, similar cargo capacity, and still some living space. Its in a weird place between the tier 1 starters (aurora, mustang, cutter, or 100i) but priced more comparably to the tier 2 starters (titan, 300i, pisces, or reliant)
Instead of these starter ships, I would like to see a premium small ship. A premium component, and weapons loadout, with enough speed to outrun most ships. Four to eight scu of cargo for the neccesities, and a QT tank of at least 1 million. The intrepid is almost just that, subtract the limited component loadout. I would like to see a bespoke gun for a little visual proportionality and a little extra oomph! If CIG is listening please make an Intrepid (Plus, VIP, Blockade Edition, something like that) with the above features for lets say a hundred bucks.
Honestly, it's really the lack of ground vehicle support that kills it. No one cares about the cargo capacity on starters since none of them short of the Nomad will have enough to at all matter. But not being able to load even a Pulse without risking damage to the ship really really hurts it.
Are we sure that the fuel port doesn't do anything? Mobile refueling is in the game, just no one ever does it because it's pretty bare bones even as a t-zero implementation.
I am on the fence about it. I love my little cutter even though i can only fly it next year. But the intrepid's acommodations are just superior like the extra cargo space and nice living quarters. AHHH WHAT DO I DO!????!!!

As much as i like the Intrepid i still find myself gravitating back towards the Cutter. Dont get me wrong Intrepid is a great ship, good looks, superb interior, a big gun to your right for psychological assurance....but all in all it feels too stale. In a way it lacks character. Engines are rather "enthusiastic" when you dont need them to be, cargo area is overengineered for the sake of style. Still a great way into the game. Also i consider her to be a Gen2 starter (i consider Gen2's to be Nomad, Starfish i cant pronounce and the Cutter, basically ships with toilets, gun racks and beds) .
Give her a S5 gun and remove the missles or make it a 6-shot revolver (2xS1 missiles are as good as having none) and she becomes a blockade runner for small but valuable goods
I'm a crusader fan of ship design, but I've never really liked the asymetrical designs that CIG did for the Mercury Star Runner, I know its an homage but just couldn't see it as a Crusader ship design language, to me a Crusader ship is about symmetry, when I looked at this new starter ship I really liked its profile until it came to the gun side. To me it feels like a failed concept design for the Ares Ion/Inferno. I really like the ship interior of the Intrepid, its exterior design just don't work for me tho, if they removed the single oversize gun and just provided it with symmetrical gun design on the chin and on both wing tips, this would have been an automatic starter ship for me. But I will probably just stick with the C1 spirit as my daily driver. 🤔
Love the intrepid... has become me default daily driver with stanton... not sure if that would work in pyro (not quite fast e ough) but toss on some stealth a components, its a handy little blockade runner.
I think it's a great little ship. It's quirky enough to feel unique, but is very functional still. It handles nice, looks cool, and has all the features expected in a new ship. I do feel the cargo grids should have both been together on 1 side of the ship. It would have given you the option of using 4 scu crates, while keeping with the asymmetrical idea, even adding more reason for the ship to be asymetrical.
It's just got a few too many compromises for the price. The split up cargo bay is much less useful than the same SCU capacity in the Avenger. It's not well-protected, and it's not really well-armed. At $10 cheaper, it'd have been fine. But at this price you could snag a 300 series and be much better off, or grab a Titan or Cutter for less money.
I really like the Intrepid design. Inside and out. I think the disproportionate hate it has received is by far the most childish regression I have seen from this community. To the dev that designed it, if you ever happen to read this, kudos! You did a great job.
Okay first of all I waited for this ship since the silhouette slide show last year. Despite what some people say, on board amenities is not what we pay for in a ship. I m not saying it should be heavily gunned or armored, but at that price range its supposed to offer more than what it can "right now", not after 4.0 or 1.0. That suit locker or huge engineering room is not worth much right now. Also that engineering room is a lot of wasted space. Again, it beeing landed too low to store a bike is a waste. All the bonuses people mention except its speed when defending the ship are secondary necessities. What it offers in terms of game play and for how long it offers them are way too short lived before you upgrade to something else. It is a ship you skip rather than stick with unlike other advanced starters. I don't want to run a Zeus or a Cutlass as a daily driver and this smaller one seater ships have to mean something. Yes, they price these for how much work was put into it rather than what it offers, still they also need to offer a reason other than liking Crusader to buy it. I was looking forward to it and was gonna get it Warbond, now I just upgraded to it with store credits only because I waited for it for so long and my more useful Cutter is one ugly minibus. These ships have to be something other than cash grabs, otherwise they are wasted time of artists and never get flown.
I fail to see the point of an engineering console in a ship this size with one crew, and that combined with the low to the ground nature of the ship prevents the cargo area from being larger. I think I could fit 16 SCU even with the low undercarriage if I were to design it and could do even more if there was more flexibility. Unfortunate really. I think the best selling point is the jump range for the ship size, being 1.2SCU of fuel. The smaller ships have half or less than that.
Honestly starter and ships up to $200 price limit is for all the solo players. You probably can get a shuffle with a Hercules or MSR but everything over these sizes are useless to the solo players.
My least favourite starter for the stated reasons. There's also the large profile because of the wasted interior space. The entry corridor is completely useless and the back room could be so much more useful if it could carry a 4 SCU box. Get an Aurora for minimum investment or the Avenger for best bang for buck instead.
Glass cannon? More like plastic pea-shooter. Aside from very likely to get nerfed fuel capacity, it's got the componets of a Pisces, while being closer to the size of a Nomad, token/weak armament like a "snub", and costs up to twice as much as other better starters, even more than "advanced" ones like the 300i and Titan. Then add pointlessly restrictive and fiddly cargo spaces and shove in a ridiculous 2nd crewman "engineering" spot as "features" and you get some grade-A troll-bait for new players... Nice one CIG, good job.🙄 Good honest review though 👍
There are 2 changes that could move the Intrepid from "meh" to an interesting option without being overpowered: 1)Bespoke S5 weapon - laser canon with a small shot count. 2) Add shielding to the cargo area Make it a starter smuggling ship
I feel like a really easy fix for the ship is bumping the cannon up to a custom Size 5, fixed laser cannon. and maybe better missiles. then it'd truly be a glass cannon, alternatively, more missiles, entire rear area is a cargo bay, remove the wall and door separating the airlock and Living area. this is 100% the kind of ship I would but in a heart beat, had it been able to match something like a Avenger. hell if they need to keep the lift have a 8SCU skid and have it offset and be 1 big area inside.
The crusader intrepid: So poorly thought out that cig doesn't know what components it's supposed to have. It rivaled the Drake dragonfly on DPS, HP, and maneuverability in its first iteration. So ugly it's been described as the inbred, bucktoothed, hunchback. So poorly considered that the only design work it's had so far is literally just a sketch on a literal napkin. So incomplete the installation techs in lore haven't finished attaching it's nose cone. All that and it's priced at twice what it's worth.
There are tons of internal design choices that I find horrible with this ship, but all that pales in comparison to the fact that this ship looks so incredibly ugly to me. SC always had some ship designs that I didn't like for one reason or another, but they still had their good sides. The Intrepid however is different, maybe because I consider myself a Crusader fan and was looking forward to a starter with a streamlined and sleek design... but to me it looks like a patched together frankenstein monster of a ship that is a crime against nature.
I think it would be style over practicality, I don't think any starter ship is good in a dogfight. Personally I think the Aurora is the worst ship out there and they shouldn't sell those to new players.
The sole party trick of the intrepid is done better by the avanger titan by a lot (1s4 AND 2s3). The only real advantage the intrepid is more fuel. The only reason one would get this is if they need more fuel than the titan but more firepower than the cutter.
Knowing that every ship is acquired with real money because the current state of the game is unplayable, every ship review feels like watching a Tele Shop Channel commercial.
I would own this ship already if it wasn't so poorly equipped. 1 shield? 1 weapon? Come on... The only thing it has going for it defensively is the hull HP. So with poor cargo space, and poor defensive capability, it doesn't matter how nice it is, I just can't buy it.
The Avenger is a practical design. They do all this rule of cool stuff with some of these ships and they just don't work right with the game mechanics.

@@Jeremy_Walker sure when we only look at the titan and stalker. The warlocks habitation makes as much as sense as the Mustang Beta. Why do you have to enter it through the pilots seat? You can't do any item or component management like this. And the Avenger Trainer (in lore only) does it have a habitation section as well? Why?
It was a hard pass for someone who has ships already. The price is fair, I guess. To me, its ugly as hell, with a nuce interior. Its "meh". Avenger or possibly a Nomad are the way to go for a true starter.

I wound up picking it up after trying it out. I found it quite fun to fly and I think it'll great for courier missions, bunker running, and as a runabout. The larger size fuel tanks are pretty nice too, as long as those stick around. It seems like it'll be a good one for getting around pyro.

I've warmed up to the design considerably, the interior is basically perfect including the really interesting cargo lifts (yeah can't store ground vehicles, big deal). And I think having an engineering panel on board despite being a small starter ship has the potential to be a massive benefit. We're too used to judging a ship's value based on its firepower, health and maneuverability when in prime condition. Maintaining the condition is going to be important moving forward.

This ship is not made to stand and fight. The Intrepid's acceleration and top-speed, as well as it's lack of offense and robust shields make it obvious this ship is meant to "fight to run away", not fight to the death. Why does everyone assume every starter ship has to do everything? 🤔
Since it costs more than a Titan, it should probably outperform the Titan in some capacity. Interior amenities aren't enough.
Has the sled storage of a Mustang.
Ramp access of an Aurora.
Sleek aerodynamic body and a biggish gun like the Titan.
Component access, homely interior and quantum range like the Cutter.
Each starter has an area it excels and this one excels at feeling comfortable and liveable.
I picked one up. It's a nice daily driver to play the game, reserve the bigger ships for multiplayer sessions.

The Intrepid is the "Space Van" to the MSR's "Space Winnabego"
I've made at least 1 run in my Intrepid carrying 9 single SCU crates, sliding the 9th into the hallway between engineering and the cockpit. I could probably gotten another one in there. It seemed pretty stable (until the game client lost connection with the server and I woke up in a hospital gown and a destroyed ship, that is.) And this is with a PC that hates SC, and, in particular, the tractor beam.
Then again, I bought it for an alt that I'm using specifically for role playing, and its vibe fits the character. He's among other traits, a Crusader fanboy, and flies wearing a Crusader ballcap rather than a helmet.
I agree with your statement that the Intrepid is a niche ship. It's nice to fly with a good interior, but at the price tag, why would you choose it over the Titan?
Totally agree that it needs a second shield generator.

The Avenger can't jump to Pyro and if 1SCU is to be the standard minimum travel distance between systems that can be a dealbreaker being system locked unless you get help to ferry your ship. Which in itself, can be a liability. Additionally it also has less hydrogen fuel which you might feel as planets get more content and you're encouraged to remain within atmosphere for longer.

@@keefybaby666 Absolutely, but if I was a new player looking at starters I won't have access to these medium ships with which to make travel more comfortable. So it's a matter of trading combat ability for freedom of traversal/general accessibility. So personally for me if I was a new player in 4.0 I'd be advised to cut my teeth in the safer Stanton but 'd still want to see Pyro. As well it may take a while for me to earn a Connie or even a freelancer, and to a new player that's a big decision to make deciding what to spend my hard earned credits on. A decision that 1.0 will only exacerbate. So say after I buy this second ship with my hard-earned savings would I even want to take my new ride to Pyro and risk losing it there? Perhaps not, maybe I'd much prefer to scope it out first with my starter ship as a sort of 'vibe check'. The Intrepid will do that for the player. Granted so does a Cutter Rambler but that's somewhat besides the point.
The Titan outclasses the Intrepid in every way.
I honestly wish they made this "THE" starter ship. It has a little bit of every thing and is just flashy enough to make some one really fall in love with their first ship. (unlike the aurora....)
Only YOU can choose YOUR starter ship, and that applies to every player. Most players have an idea of the type of gameplay they are seeking, and therefore some investigating will lend to choice decisions. [Totally agree that the Aurora's charm is hard to find, and the older starters have been left far behind in what they offer and in price].

@@Merlox24 Soooo many ships need a gold pass: components, light and door controls, refinements to areas, and of course engineering/power management gameplay. And yes, new ships are polished compared to early ones, that is just the growth of the game and ship dev team, I guess. As the saying goes, "if you have a favorite ship you are waiting for - the later it gets made, the better it will be". Patience pays off.

Pros:
* Quantum range, I don't like docking for fuel often
* Agility - greater than the Avenger Titan, which after converting it to stealth gives the feeling of a cunning scout.
Cons:
* 8 cargo space, but you cannot park a bike -> u can use tracer beam to put it inside, but it will glitch to death if you try to leave it on the grid and close the cargo.
* placing the boxes is a pain.
* Lvl 4 gun is still not enough to make the dream of flying a glass cannon come true.
Bugs 3.24.3:
* trying to throw a body through a side door using a tractor beam has a 50% chance of disappearing along with your belongings.
* Sometimes, when running without a helmet in the corridor, you start to choke from the lack of oxygen, as if the pixels weren't pulled somewhere and the game assumes that you are outside.
(greetings to barotrauma ship editors).
*Friends who are not sitting on the bed or at the table may fall out of the ship through the textures when maneuvering sharply

Decided, at least for the time being, to swap my Avenger for an Intrepid. I use the C1 as my daily driver and other larger ships when needed, but I still enjoy just doing little tasks in the small single seaters from time to time just for fun. I specifically am giving the Intrepid a shot for now since in 4.0 it'll be the only single seater with any kind of proper fuel quantity and with all stealth components, will be the perfect ship for sneaking around Pyro in relative peace. Can always get my Avenger back any time in the future if things change.
I picked it up as my starter ship, mostly because I did really like the look and feel of it, and figured I'll be seeing a lot of it as my starter, so I valued that pretty highly. I don't mind the performance being not necessarily optimal, but I do wish the cargo was a little more convenient. Even aside from the size making some even starter hauling missions inaccessible, just maneuvering the boxes around those struts to get them lined up was quite the challenge for a total beginner. Though hopefully with server meshing and removed from the IAE server loads, it will get a little easier lol

I got the intrepid as my daily driver. I'm not a fan of the exterior, but the interior is fantastic.
In the end, I think the Intrepid is an "upgrade" for the demographic that has adored the Rambler for a while now, as Farrister says, a home.
The shield is getting "fixed" in that it will no longer be a quadrant, but a bubble, allowing it to last longer in a fight. The single s4 hardpoint is slightly better than the Rambler's 2x s2's ...but the Rambler balances it out with more missiles.
In the end it is good for exactly the same kind of gameplay as the Rambler (off grid exploration, living in your ship) with a better flight profile, but no ground vehicle easily. It has significantly better storage, not just in th 8 1 scu boxes, but the living quarters having the shelves to store 3x 1/8 boxes, a great place to store your "finds".
One thing that Farrister forgot to mention, the engine is quite loud, I think it's louder than even a Drake's ship. Was expecting something more like bigger sibling the C1, but personally it's even louder than a Ares fighter. I don't mind it much when I'm not using headset, when you do put on your headset, even at 10% master volume, it still quite loud IMO.
It is a starter. It looks nice especially inside (yes that matters to me). If it had shields that were like the Aurora then it would likely just be better and we want variation not straight up better and worse options at least within the same class and size.
I actually really like the asymmetric design and crusaders design language in general. If this wasn’t a starter and was more akin to the ion I’d probably buy one. I don’t think it’s a great starter due to what other multi-role starters offer but I do like its look.

I think that if they went with the more barebones and practivcal living space of the C1, they would have had room to add a third cargo platform, or to narrow the overall width of the ship. I like the living space, but if I needed that level of comfort, I'd fly a 300i and gain a working coffee maker.
You forgot to mention the really big quantum fuel tank compared to other starting ships. The Intrepid has enough to get from ArcCorp to Microtech and back without refueling. Try this with an Avenger Titan.
I am a noob and purchased the intrepid because I liked what I saw in reviews. I like everything about it except the cargo loading. I was leaning towards the nomad and kinda wish I got it instead. I only have keyboard and mouse so I will not attempt combat. I was hoping to begin a space trucking career.
KB and Mouse is a perfectly fine way to do combat with a little practice. Maybe not high-level sweaty PvP, but perfectly fine for regular PvE. If you decide you want to upgrade the Intrepid to a Nomad after experimenting with the Intrepid a bit, it’s a simple $15 ship upgrade. Enjoy the game! :-)

Nomad is quite enjoyable for hauling with its tractor beam placement, but you don’t need to upgrade to one with real cash. It is only 1.5M in-game.
It will be interesting what the engineering station can be, even if its just got one shield. What will a ship with lesser components, but with a 2nd player be able to do, when the ship got an engineering station, extra hands to repair, switch components during flight... I see some interesting balance and gameplay here.
I think to add to the manufacturer unique that all crusaders should be asymmetrical in some way and some of them should have their own unique weapons. Like imaging is the intrepid has 2 size 3 but both were in the same area as it is now but on a special kind of mount or socket specially made for the ship
CIG did a decent job designing the ship. Just a bad one pricing it on the pledge store. This should have been valued between the Mustang/Aurora starter pack and the Titan's.

Still use 315p as my daily.. can do a few of the small hauling missions and also early game combat missions.
Wish the 315 which is an explorer had a bit more QT fuel.

Nice video, thank you. This sits right next to the 300 series from Origin. Unfortunately even the 315P (Explorer) which sacrifices a weapon hardpoint only has .5 SCU of QT where this "starter" has 1.2 SCU. It's hard to know what's a game balance vs a get your money thing.

It seems to me that the Intrepid is the "engineering" starter ship. AFAIK, it's the smallest ship with an engineering panel, and it's very easy to move components from the cargo skids to and from their relevant ports. You hinted at it when you mentioned adding stealth components and swapping the gun -- this'll be a good ship if you want to tinker.
Current issue with start ships is the next better than the previous. In such unforgiving (and expensive) world you don't wanna lag behind so it feels like a waste of art/dev time since some ships will be just forgotten.
Interior looks great and it flies well, but that is about as positive as I can be for this ship. Outside, the way the big gun is presented really does not look nice, otherwise the easy recognition between this and the Spirit is a good thing. But yeah, this ship either needs a bigger shield or be able to put things other then guns on the mount to be interesting. I am thinking of scanners or tractor beams.
Nomad and titan are the only 2 starter ships that should be recommended
I'd venture to say that currently, the Intrepid's range is the BEST among all start ships unless you count the Cutlass Black as a starter ship.

Joke aside, does it qualify as a starter ship despite the high price of acquisition ? Meaning as a starter, it should be "readily available upon claim" (I understand super short delay) in future patches or full release ?
While i'm glad CIG increased the weapon size from its original size 3, for its price range it should have been a size 5. Price-wise it competes with the Avenger Titan and 300i, both with FAR more firepower and shields, similar cargo capacity, and still some living space. Its in a weird place between the tier 1 starters (aurora, mustang, cutter, or 100i) but priced more comparably to the tier 2 starters (titan, 300i, pisces, or reliant)
It has 1.2 SCU of QT. Miraculously higher than everything else as well as Pyro enters the picture.
While cutter can take 16SCU technically and Avenger titan can fit 4 SCU boxes and having more guns, I think Intrepid just another pretty face.
Instead of these starter ships, I would like to see a premium small ship. A premium component, and weapons loadout, with enough speed to outrun most ships. Four to eight scu of cargo for the neccesities, and a QT tank of at least 1 million. The intrepid is almost just that, subtract the limited component loadout. I would like to see a bespoke gun for a little visual proportionality and a little extra oomph! If CIG is listening please make an Intrepid (Plus, VIP, Blockade Edition, something like that) with the above features for lets say a hundred bucks.

Honestly, it's really the lack of ground vehicle support that kills it. No one cares about the cargo capacity on starters since none of them short of the Nomad will have enough to at all matter. But not being able to load even a Pulse without risking damage to the ship really really hurts it.
Are we sure that the fuel port doesn't do anything? Mobile refueling is in the game, just no one ever does it because it's pretty bare bones even as a t-zero implementation.
I am on the fence about it. I love my little cutter even though i can only fly it next year. But the intrepid's acommodations are just superior like the extra cargo space and nice living quarters. AHHH WHAT DO I DO!????!!!

4 doors in a starter ship (6 if you count cargo bays). That's a Crusader ship all right.
As much as i like the Intrepid i still find myself gravitating back towards the Cutter. Dont get me wrong Intrepid is a great ship, good looks, superb interior, a big gun to your right for psychological assurance....but all in all it feels too stale. In a way it lacks character. Engines are rather "enthusiastic" when you dont need them to be, cargo area is overengineered for the sake of style.
Still a great way into the game.
Also i consider her to be a Gen2 starter (i consider Gen2's to be Nomad, Starfish i cant pronounce and the Cutter, basically ships with toilets, gun racks and beds) .
Give her a S5 gun and remove the missles or make it a 6-shot revolver (2xS1 missiles are as good as having none) and she becomes a blockade runner for small but valuable goods
I'm a crusader fan of ship design, but I've never really liked the asymetrical designs that CIG did for the Mercury Star Runner, I know its an homage but just couldn't see it as a Crusader ship design language, to me a Crusader ship is about symmetry, when I looked at this new starter ship I really liked its profile until it came to the gun side. To me it feels like a failed concept design for the Ares Ion/Inferno. I really like the ship interior of the Intrepid, its exterior design just don't work for me tho, if they removed the single oversize gun and just provided it with symmetrical gun design on the chin and on both wing tips, this would have been an automatic starter ship for me. But I will probably just stick with the C1 spirit as my daily driver. 🤔

Love the intrepid... has become me default daily driver with stanton... not sure if that would work in pyro (not quite fast e ough) but toss on some stealth a components, its a handy little blockade runner.

I think it's a great little ship. It's quirky enough to feel unique, but is very functional still. It handles nice, looks cool, and has all the features expected in a new ship. I do feel the cargo grids should have both been together on 1 side of the ship. It would have given you the option of using 4 scu crates, while keeping with the asymmetrical idea, even adding more reason for the ship to be asymetrical.
It's just got a few too many compromises for the price. The split up cargo bay is much less useful than the same SCU capacity in the Avenger. It's not well-protected, and it's not really well-armed. At $10 cheaper, it'd have been fine. But at this price you could snag a 300 series and be much better off, or grab a Titan or Cutter for less money.
Everyone gets it wrong even cig.. Those cargo slides can take 5scu each, not 4
I really like the Intrepid design. Inside and out. I think the disproportionate hate it has received is by far the most childish regression I have seen from this community. To the dev that designed it, if you ever happen to read this, kudos! You did a great job.

IMO they still haven't released a better starter ship than the Aegis Avenger Titan, it does everything well.
it needs to be replaced with a ship version of the cru shuttle, and sent back to drake.
At the price you have to rank range and amenities very highly.

Okay first of all I waited for this ship since the silhouette slide show last year. Despite what some people say, on board amenities is not what we pay for in a ship. I m not saying it should be heavily gunned or armored, but at that price range its supposed to offer more than what it can "right now", not after 4.0 or 1.0. That suit locker or huge engineering room is not worth much right now. Also that engineering room is a lot of wasted space. Again, it beeing landed too low to store a bike is a waste. All the bonuses people mention except its speed when defending the ship are secondary necessities. What it offers in terms of game play and for how long it offers them are way too short lived before you upgrade to something else. It is a ship you skip rather than stick with unlike other advanced starters. I don't want to run a Zeus or a Cutlass as a daily driver and this smaller one seater ships have to mean something. Yes, they price these for how much work was put into it rather than what it offers, still they also need to offer a reason other than liking Crusader to buy it. I was looking forward to it and was gonna get it Warbond, now I just upgraded to it with store credits only because I waited for it for so long and my more useful Cutter is one ugly minibus. These ships have to be something other than cash grabs, otherwise they are wasted time of artists and never get flown.
I fail to see the point of an engineering console in a ship this size with one crew, and that combined with the low to the ground nature of the ship prevents the cargo area from being larger. I think I could fit 16 SCU even with the low undercarriage if I were to design it and could do even more if there was more flexibility. Unfortunate really. I think the best selling point is the jump range for the ship size, being 1.2SCU of fuel. The smaller ships have half or less than that.

Honestly starter and ships up to $200 price limit is for all the solo players. You probably can get a shuffle with a Hercules or MSR but everything over these sizes are useless to the solo players.
A lot of people hated on this for it’s asymmetric design but come ON! It’s such a great ship.

There's also the large profile because of the wasted interior space. The entry corridor is completely useless and the back room could be so much more useful if it could carry a 4 SCU box.
Get an Aurora for minimum investment or the Avenger for best bang for buck instead.

Glass cannon? More like plastic pea-shooter. Aside from very likely to get nerfed fuel capacity, it's got the componets of a Pisces, while being closer to the size of a Nomad, token/weak armament like a "snub", and costs up to twice as much as other better starters, even more than "advanced" ones like the 300i and Titan. Then add pointlessly restrictive and fiddly cargo spaces and shove in a ridiculous 2nd crewman "engineering" spot as "features" and you get some grade-A troll-bait for new players... Nice one CIG, good job.🙄 Good honest review though 👍
I agree. It's a nice ship and I really want to like it, but there's just not much use for it. It's just not good at anything.
There are 2 changes that could move the Intrepid from "meh" to an interesting option without being overpowered:
1)Bespoke S5 weapon - laser canon with a small shot count.
2) Add shielding to the cargo area
Make it a starter smuggling ship
I feel like a really easy fix for the ship is bumping the cannon up to a custom Size 5, fixed laser cannon. and maybe better missiles. then it'd truly be a glass cannon, alternatively, more missiles, entire rear area is a cargo bay, remove the wall and door separating the airlock and Living area. this is 100% the kind of ship I would but in a heart beat, had it been able to match something like a Avenger.
hell if they need to keep the lift have a 8SCU skid and have it offset and be 1 big area inside.
The crusader intrepid:
So poorly thought out that cig doesn't know what components it's supposed to have. It rivaled the Drake dragonfly on DPS, HP, and maneuverability in its first iteration.
So ugly it's been described as the inbred, bucktoothed, hunchback.
So poorly considered that the only design work it's had so far is literally just a sketch on a literal napkin.
So incomplete the installation techs in lore haven't finished attaching it's nose cone.
All that and it's priced at twice what it's worth.
There are tons of internal design choices that I find horrible with this ship, but all that pales in comparison to the fact that this ship looks so incredibly ugly to me. SC always had some ship designs that I didn't like for one reason or another, but they still had their good sides. The Intrepid however is different, maybe because I consider myself a Crusader fan and was looking forward to a starter with a streamlined and sleek design... but to me it looks like a patched together frankenstein monster of a ship that is a crime against nature.
I think it would be style over practicality, I don't think any starter ship is good in a dogfight. Personally I think the Aurora is the worst ship out there and they shouldn't sell those to new players.

The sole party trick of the intrepid is done better by the avanger titan by a lot (1s4 AND 2s3).
The only real advantage the intrepid is more fuel.
The only reason one would get this is if they need more fuel than the titan but more firepower than the cutter.

I would own this ship already if it wasn't so poorly equipped. 1 shield? 1 weapon? Come on... The only thing it has going for it defensively is the hull HP. So with poor cargo space, and poor defensive capability, it doesn't matter how nice it is, I just can't buy it.
Seems like a bit of a disappointing ship. Thought it seemed great but the lack of cargo size and fighting ability really disappoints me.

The Intrepid lacks focus in its pupose in my opinion for being a premium starter ship.
Crusader is for pilots who couldn't afford Origin
cig has gotten worse at making ships, this gets blown out of the water by the cheaper, smaller, avenger
just wait for the avenger titan gold pass, then we will see how it fares.
The Avenger is a practical design. They do all this rule of cool stuff with some of these ships and they just don't work right with the game mechanics.

@@Jeremy_Walker sure when we only look at the titan and stalker. The warlocks habitation makes as much as sense as the Mustang Beta. Why do you have to enter it through the pilots seat? You can't do any item or component management like this.
And the Avenger Trainer (in lore only) does it have a habitation section as well? Why?
It was a hard pass for someone who has ships already. The price is fair, I guess. To me, its ugly as hell, with a nuce interior.
