I rarley comment on youtube videos but i just want to take a minute to salute your content that (in my book) is one of the best the best for SC. Absolute top tier editing and excellent narrative voice. Keep up the good work Sir!. Ive been eyeballing this game for several years and finally got in a couple of months ago and will for sure return to your channel. o7
The space RV will always have a place in my heart. Sometimes it's not about making credits or fighting. Sometimes it's just about landing somewhere nice to take some pictures. And the Cutter is perfect for that.
Unlike the competitors, from let's say origin or c.o, this has an actual small, comfy (for drake standards) apartment in it, not just a glorified park bench with a whole lot of nothing else in it, or something that looks and feels like a prison cell. Really, all this needs, are some nice Georgian rugs to cover up the loose cabling, the sharp metal edges, and the messy welding to make it perfect, and maybe a coffee machine. I would also take a kettle, FYI ! I could totally see myself life in that, if it actually existed!
The old Mustang Beta was so much comfier, but in terms of prison aesthetic the current Beta and Rambler aren't that far from each other let's be honest. Until CIG recover from their fear of windows, getting a "mobile apartment" is going to remain rare and costly.
Also unlike it's competitors, its an indeffensible brick, incapable of running, fighting, or dodging, and can't be used as a snub in much thanks to how chunky it is either.
@@alegsb3943 def talking about the beta! the nomad is great (it even has a potted plant!!!!!!! ) , but it is on an entirely different price point and just level in general, more comparable to a spirit or cutty in terms of functionality.
Ahhh man. Ive been away from SC for a little bit and I'm getting back into it. I seen this video on my recommended list and as soon as I heard the first instant of the music you usually play in the review videos, my mind was at ease. I watched almost all of your review videos when I first started playing SC and it brings me back to those humble days. Thank you Farrister!
Thank you for being with us for years as we journey along with this project in the recesses of our minds, bobbing in and out like floating corks at sea. I always hope to find your videos for a view of ships I'm checking out even if they were from years ago, and what a pleasant surprise to see a brand new one. Good to see you still active!
The true Space Winnebago, its a portable apartment. While it doesn't do any current game play well, you can do a bit of everything. I'm making this one my starter and daily driver.
Hey Farrister, that was a nice review of the Drake Cutter Rambler. I personally like the ship. When it first came out I had the basic Cutter, and really liked the Rambler. I went ahead and traded up to it. I haven't flown it yet, but from what I've seen in videos, like this one, I like it and may use it as a small backup ship. Thanks for the nice review. Fly safe, and I'll see you in the verse.
Thank you Farrister for making these videos and entertaining me before I finally decided to get SC. Ive been enjoying travelling the verse in my nomad and Im so stoked to see Pyro in my Zeus CL that I bought last IAE. Hope to see you in the verse! -iiinneppttt
I am a huge fan of this ship, I love landing between the C1, Corsairs, C2's, Redemeer's, at bunkers/distro centers ramps/entrances so I can get in and out quickly. The internal storage is great and if needed you can bring some 1 SCU containers.
before the component rework patch i always used the atlas quantum drive since its efficiency was soo amazing and that in combo with the extended fuel made this a ship i could go all night in
I love Rambler. My favourite small ship, maybe even favourite ship in the game. I hope there will be more variants. Little cutter with mining arm from ROC would be marvelous.
There is also another button to control the ramp to the top left as your looking out of the back. Near the two circles. Great for hitting as you run off as the ramp will then close behind you.
With how the new power system works, putting stealth components on the Rambler (or generally Cutter) gives it 1.3K/2.8K/0 emissions, so you can ramble around barely visible. Really nice for going unnoticed.
I had the idea of having a tiny exploration ship with stealth component for years, I wanted the Mustang Beta but I disliked the rework. The Rambler seems much better.
For me the Rambler is the one ship that is the nearest to be a camper and perfect for a little out of grid gameplay exploring the verse on your own without visiting a station for days.
I was hoping you might consider doing a review of the Cutter Scout. Your reviews provide a simple look at the design and function, providing enough detail without feeling rushed.
It's been a minute since I commented, but the Rambler deserves one. I've not shifted from a baseline Cutter to a Rambler, but that's because my uses for it are generally the type that need a bit more cargo and a bit less range, but there are a few significant other advantages the Rambler carries. In particular, the baseline Cutter has bulldogs instead of badgers, and although that's not a particularly expensive or difficult an upgrade, it's one that you almost certainly should do - the tight pairing of the mounts means that if one of those guns hits, it's VERY likely that both will. The main drawback to the Rambler, and the Cutter in general, is its size. Although it's got lots of versatility, the fact that it's not very good at anything in particular means that you're almost certainly going to be able to upgrade to something better no matter what role you move into. When you do, you'll have the Cutter as a backup, but if you're eventually looking at taking a small ship along in your larger one, suddenly the Cutter and Rambler aren't worth saving. Range isn't as important when you're taking up space in a hangar or cargo bay, after all. In the end, I feel like the Cutter and Rambler are ships you love and then move on from, but will replace rather than keeping as backup.
I upgraded my Aurora to Cutter and I just love this little ship even tho it is easy to be destroyed in it It has the same amount of character as The Cutlass Black. I wish that these two are just a bit stronger with the shields but that is all
... the Rambler may be seen as a "starter-ship"... by some; but after the gloss of the "promised-game" fades, and the afterglow of the "real-game" begins... it becomes apparent, for those that remain: all you need on this journey through CIG's magnificent and endless, but largely unplayable, tech' demo'... is a windshield to see through, a little room for the dog, a small kitchenette to molecularly synthesize your favorite beverage... and a bed to make-love to your woman on. Enter the true end-game: the DRAKE Rambler. Great video, by-the-way; thank-you...
i know everyone is reviewing the new rsi Zeus mk ii es but i would like to hear your take on it you are after all my go to ship reviewer love the style and format you use and always very informative thanks again for the nice video on the rambler
@@Farrister yea i also asked CIG if a 2 seater Titan would be feasable. Not sure if anyone else has thought about it but i love the design but i play the game with my wife so i hardly fly it
I love the rambler because it is the best ship to hop into if you want to feel like a plucky merc or explorer, etc. Definitely not the best for making money, but it is the best for making memories.
Just a heads up to anyone reading, as of 3.24.2, CIG "streamlined" the quantum drives and eliminated any ability to upgrade or change them, all siize 1 ships fly at the same speed now and replacing the quantum drive does nothing to change that
I like the additional headlights, they just look cool. The suit locker and kitchen area are great little additions, I just wish it didn't come with the negative of losing so much space in the rear cargo area. I want to stuff a small ground vehicle in the back of an exploration ship (gimme the Tumbril Ranger please CIG!), but I don't think it possible in the Cutter Rambler.
Love this little ship. It’s a toss up between this and the Nomad as my 1.0 starter ship. Question, how is this a 3.24 review but it’s showing the old MFD’s?
I have this one too. Wanted to use it for low beginner stuff such as courier delivery or searching for underground mines to get Janalite. But currently with the game being in a messy state, doing box missions is a russian roulette thing, but instead of bullets you are dealing with bugs and Janalite is so rare and not worth the price in game making it more of a imagination type of gameplay rather than something profitable (like the old prospectors did with gold). In any case it's a neat little ship that feels homey in contrast to other ships, example aurora which feels like a space coffin xD
The Rambler strikes me like they came up with a better idea for the interior AFTER the Cutter was released, and just decided to make it a new variant rather than go back. There's just too much overlay between the base Cutter and the Rambler to really justify both. Yes it has more fuel, but the two designs could really be merged without any real loss in terms of ship variety. Plus you could even modify the Rambler interior a bit more to keep the 4 SCU of cargo just by ditching the second weapon rack and shuffling things on the opposite wall a bit more.
That just sounds like you want the base cutter with the extra fuel. Which is fine, but the Rambler is meant to be a trade-off. Better interior layout, amenities, and range, at the expense of storage. If you don't need the storage, the Rambler is just plain better at literally everything.
Wasn't there a really popular and very affordable caravan on sale in Britain in the 60s/70s called "Rambler"? I'm going to have to Goggle this...Yeah - Elddis still do them!
I have all three variants of the Cutter, and they do indeed come with their own little quirks and foibles. They are all good starter ships, but I prefer the Cutter itself to the Rambler, and the Rambler to the Scout. Sorry Scout, but your sister ships have more to them!!.
Haha not yet, it only hit Live on Thursday! And I'm at CitCon this weekend. I have one so will be putting something up in the next week or 2. But you should totally check out Morphs video on it - it was a great video!!
I have the Rambler myself and although I'm a fan of the Drake ships, the Cutter line is simply not for me. I think it boils down to the way it looks, more specifically how the front end of this ship looks. It reminds me of an old, tired commuter train. SC has a lot of great ships to choose from so using the Cutter in any of the three variants is rather tough proposition. And yes, I know we're talking about a starter ship here so comparing apples to apples is important, but still. I think if choosing the best starter ship, ignoring the purchase price allows for a better choice from what is available and I feel the differences in prices are not terrible large. The Nomad for example, while more expensive, offers a lot more bang for the buck out of all starter ships because it offers more cargo space which can also store vehicles such as the ROC which is great for mining. I'm planning to trade my Rambler up for the new Zeus ES to have a better looking, better flying, more functional explorer ship 😁

Starter/exploration xD
Great review! Agreed - there's much to like with the Cutter, particularly the Rambler. Hey, have a great Con, Farrister!
Thanks, you too!

I love the Cutter in general, and the Rambler in particular. It's a great RP ship for extended camping trips in the mountains of Microtech.
Definitely
It's the most aesthetically pleasing cutter of the bunch.

I love every variant for it's very human scale.

Did they reimplement switching off the light in the cockpit so one can actually feel like flying a reasonable cockpit?

It’s SC version of an RV.
I'm both glad and sad that the Cutter and Syulen are the only starter ships with both a toilet and shower.
Small ship, little difference between 2 and 4 scu, not buying it for cargo space. This is a ship for exploring.
