    Fabulous emulation. I saved for about ten years to buy a hardware 1073 unit and it's utterly gorgeous, but I have to say, the UA emulations sound pretty much exactly the same, they're that good. I don't know how on earth the UA wizards do it, but they do.

    love this! no black and white screen when the effect is bypassed to trick the brain, and properly gain staged effects to not make it just sound louder. you can really compare the wet and dry signal, keep up the great videos:)

    I've seen UAD in action, throughout all the years of playing in studio sessions, never owned the plugins in any format. Having subcribed to Spark and gotten a hands on close up go on them, I am blown away, I don't want to diss any other company, let's just say, UAD, mind blown.

    • @axel.lessio
      @axel.lessio 2 роки тому +1

      Same here, I compared their plugins to the same counterparts from another company I'm currently subscribed to... and while the difference isn't night and day, UAD always has a tad more clarity, glue, punch, warmth... to the trained ear, the difference is worth it. Plus I really love how you can choose between different LA and 76 compressors, maximum flexibility. I'm looking forward to seeing more plugins added to Spark.

    • @MKD371
      @MKD371 2 роки тому +1

      @@axel.lessio Agreed. I was amazed at how much higher in quality UAD plugins are. Yes good mixes can be obtained with other plugin companies, however, one of the biggest differences I noticed was how consistent the mixes became after a few simple teaks, not only on an instrument per track basis, but as track per track basis, if mixing a whole album. The compressors, LA2A range and 1176, sound fantastic, yes they are used time and time again, although I never got the hype re them in plugin form, until trying the UAD versions. Same with the API, always feeling other companies made them two coloured or muddy, the eq, or the comp to grabby, even in lighter settings. Many of the other manufactures do sound 2d in comparison. All the details like trying to get something to sit in a mix, it just happens with UAD.

    • @axel.lessio
      @axel.lessio 2 роки тому +1

      @@MKD371, great points, and the true test is when you stack 10-15 tracks, the UAD plugins will keep details and definition you lose with other plugins. Example: Slate Digital VMR sounds nice until you have a full session with it.

    • @MKD371
      @MKD371 2 роки тому +1

      @@axel.lessio Exactly, good point. It sounds odd, given how much material I've mixed, and likewise probably, prior to UAD, there would always be this search for a slightly less boxed, muffled or 2 sound, without applying a ton of bells and whistles. You can get the job done much quicker and sounding much better with well over half the plugins.

    This thing is really DSP intensive. I was in a session in Cubase and my DSP had climbed to 92%. I removed one instance of the UAD Neve 1073 and the DSP dropped to like 58% just from that. I replaced it with the Waves Schepps 73 and had no problems. Sounded practically the same.

    Weird question, but would you use this Neve plugin for both recording AND mixing? Or is best practice to choose one or the other. I want to save dsp space and I’m also worried that both recording and mixing with the 1073 would lead to over saturation

    Rock mix will hide harshness or clipping of a plugin …imo that is why most companies choose that genre if demoing plugins.
    I also think that if it would sound like the analog, companies would be doing a direct comparison - what would be the ultimate test that no one would be avoiding, especially if software would be THAT good!

    • @UniversalAudio

  • @banchyy09

    I've seen people use this and mess with eq parameters tracking into DAW, and then later eq the track...does that make any kind of sense? We hear about gain staging, is there such a thing as EQ staging? I'm drowning in eq. I'd love for you guys to make a video on just some basic level setting and eq on something simple like a solo acoustic player.

    • @UniversalAudio
      @UniversalAudio  2 роки тому +3

      When tracking, you're making "initial" tonal decisions based on what the signal needs in that moment, in isolation. When mix time comes, you're now making "final" tonal decisions based on what's needed in the context of your mix. Everytime you "touch" the signal it should have intent and purpose to arrive at the desired result and it's only through trial and error that you'll get there. Thanks for the feedback.

    Can someone please tell me when to use the output knob vs the fader? 😅

    • @UniversalAudio
      @UniversalAudio  Рік тому +1

      The fader is the modeled output section of the 1073, so driving it harder can add harmonics and color the sound. The output knob is 100% clean so you can change the volume without affecting the tone.
