Thanks! The brevity of the video is cool, but in some of the examples it would be helpful if you could stop the voice over and toggle between the before/after examples (gain matched) a bit more so we can really hear what the plugin is doing.
you can just go to their website for the audio files and listen to them. also, the biggest difference is heard over multiple instances. i'm working on a track now with this in demo mode and the difference is night and day.
For mixing maybe but for tracking on the uad unison mic pre hell yeah i would pay for this plug in. I gotta purchase when on sale to save a few hundred dollars.
This plugin really warms up my tracks. I wish it wasn't such a DSP hog. I generally have to copy/print the track and live with whatever I have. That's okay it's worth it. I also wish I could take advantage of Unison technology but I have an RME UFX.
your RME UFX is superb unit. Its preamp is awesome. You can color the signal in the DAW with any plugin you have, so IMO, you dont need that unison-tech.
Why that voice sound with a lot of distortion ? Is that normal? I have the same issue with some artefacts and distortion on vocals… sounds terrible !!!
Great plugin. But the eq becomes almost unusable for me due to dsp. I have a twin and an octo satellite. When I’m in a regular session with other uad plugins and want to use the eq of the 1073 I run out of dsp too quick.
Rafael Graterol You can print the eq you use from the 1073 if you have to use the full fat version. Otherwise the SE version is available if you are struggling for DSP.
pandemic7 Hi, all it means is that you open the plugin and set it how you like, then record the audio through the plugins effect. You then replace the old audio file with your new audio file which includes the effects of the plugin. You can then turn off the plugin to save processing because you have printed the process to a new audio file
Output knob doesn't exist on the hardware, it is purely a clean digital trim. The fader is modelled off the hardware, so it is not completely linear and clean.
okay I am a little confused still, what is the difference between using it as a preamp and using it as a plugin in the daw? is there much of a difference? Also, another thing that confuses me is the difference between mic/line in, is there a difference while recording vocals?
As a preamp it can handle mic level inputs for recording. As a plugin in the DAW, it's at "line level" for processing previously recorded material. For recording vocals, you'd set it to mic.
@@UniversalAudio so using it in the daw would be more for like mixing with it ? Could you record good vocals with it, if it were set in the daw as line in?
I may be alone but I've yet to hear any software based preamp emulate successfully the transformer growl, especially in the lower register of a voice. Demoed this and most of the Aqua plugins and they all sound great and give a nice "Neve" tone. The word hasn't been invented yet but when singing into a good transformer, it elicits a mid/low sound, growl that is just missing in software. Maybe it's not possible to program without it sounding fake. IMHO of course!
Hey UA. What pre amp would you recommend for solo trumpet or recordings where the trumpet is the main melody and featured instrument? Also what pre amp would you use to get the most out of a royer ribbon ?
Hi Mike. a few come to mind.... the Avalon for a cleaner vibe, or possibly the 610s for a little color. Of course you can never go wrong with the vintage Neves-in this case we'd choose 1084 since you might want/need a low pass filter. The API Vision is great with ribbons because it has a lot of gain. But really all the pres work great with ribbons because they all have a clean digital out that will get you as much gain as you could need. Hope this helps.
How did you record two tracks of bass? Did you split the quarter inch through a DI into the Hi-Z input and then also send the bass amp mic XLR into the UNISON pre? or can did you (can you?) take a channel in CONSOLE and duplicate it so its sending two tracks into the DAW at once, one processed and one dry?
Absolutely. With Unison-enabled plug-ins such as the Neve 1073, Apollo's hardware preamps fully integrate with the software (you can control the gain staging of the plug-in from Apollo). This allows the mic preamps to sound and behave like these tube and solid-state designs, by capturing the all-important impedance, gain stage “sweet spots,” and component-level circuit behaviors. Here's our web page explaining how to set this up: www.uaudio.com/blog/unison-quick-tip/
My unison slot makes my mic come in too low at like -24 dbs in my daw. When I crank up the white output knob on the neve preamp with the red knob at a nice low 40. It sounds fine and floor noise isn't bad, but is OK to push the output to 12?
I love the vibe of this plug-in but for some reason I can’t get the gain staging right. I’m using a Neumann Tlm 102 and I have no problem getting a good level with the api channel strip and v76 but especially the neve I have to crank all 3 gain levels to get a healthy wave file in logic.. but it comes with a lot of hiss.. anyone?
***** Id be willing to post some clips and have you tell us which use Unison. Since it makes such a world of difference it should be a cinch for you to pick out the right clips..
I ask myself too if someone bought the all in Neve Bundle why she/he has to pay again for a little transformer mojo…140$ …..380$ bucks for a single piece of code… I mean enough is enough I stopped buying UAD plug ins a long time ago...
They don't measure up to Hardware, at least the API stuff. But for 1/10th the price its worth it. I hooked my API A2D to the front end bypassing the A/D on the Apollo Quad and compared it to the API Channel Strip in Unison mode. There is no comparison! The Channel strip sounds cool, but the API A2D is pristine. It's the difference between amateur and pro.

Most of the presets have the gain set to -20. I can’t get any decent signal level in my DAW at that level. The record bar in the track doesn’t even show a waveform. I need to ramp it up to about 50 before I get a decent signal. The 1073 fader and output are just left at default level. What am I doing wrong? Mic is SE z5600 mk2. I start to get a lot of artefacts, sputter and distortion on vocals but if I drop the gain I literally can’t get a decent signal. Somebody help!!
