Lincoln deserved 10 more points. During min 54 Dave did something wrong in the scoring track. He went back to the same row instead of to the next row. Great playthrough!
Oh no, I got beat by two people lol. The second gave you the credit. Nice 👍🏻
Doh! I mean... I meant to do that for educational reasons... to show you how *not* to make that mistake... yeah, that's it.
@@davidarnott4850 lol. I had to double take at that point. Luckly it didn't affect the outcome too!
But as a design thing, that score track can cause that confusion for sure.
@54:16 Dave accidentally dropped Lincoln's score by 10 when moving marker to other side of the fidgety score tracker. Final score should be 66 for Lincoln. Thanks for the game. edit: Joren beat me to this comment :)
I came here to point that out as well. Thanks for doing that.
whoops
You are the best guys! I like very much your attitudes in game and the interesting discussion after the game, all the right focus and deep ! Outstanding!
I am so thankful for your videos, I get so much inspiration on which games to get but also get a quick intro in how to play them. Thank you!! Big like from me! 👍👍
Another great teach and playthrough. I didn't look into this game because I figured it was a heavy battle euro. What a fun and nice surprise. Thank you!
Kudos to Niki's thematically appropriate shirt, as Rome is filled with stray cats
*Sees big game with all the swag pieces*
Me (crying): IT'S BEAUTIFUL!!!
*Sees price*
(Crying... for a different reason)
And another great video from you guys!
I had somehow managed to resist buying this game in Indy, but I now have a copy waiting for me to pick up in Essen…
Thank you, really! ;-)
On a side note I was glad I could meet and play with a part of the team back there!
See you soon for another one hopefully!
This provoked a lively end-game discussion, didn't it? Such a great game!
Love this game. Bookmarking to watch later.
Looks like a very good game. I think buildings could totaly be just cardboard tiles. Fantastic playthrough as always, thank you guys very much.
Goodness, so many pieces in this game.
Nick just getting in EVERYONE’S way!
This game looks really fun, I'm interested in the trading mechanic expansion as i wonder how that would influence my choices in buying spaces. That saying Lincoln missed 10 points, and Dave missed 2. When counting Lincoln went from 40-31 instead of 41, and Daves civic building in the bottom right was counted as 10 when it should be 12.
I have this game and love playing it
I'm curious why Dave didn't change out the L shaped population piece for the square commerce when he drafted I1? Were the 8 points he would have gotten less than what he got for putting a civics building on B9? I thought he only got 5 for that?
Thanks for the playthrough... we've been playing for a while, and I realized we missed played the population rule.
Watching while painting my copy :-)
We need an undeluxified version of this. Let Oink games do it! :-)
@57:19 Not Nick saying "yeah" over and over and over and over again 😂
Love Emerson’s games and this looks great but I just can’t justify the cost. Great video as usual.
😍😍😍😍😍😍 GREAT INTRO!!!!
Watching someone play the base game makes me realize how important the Monuments and other card expansions are to the game. I have the Emperor pledge which included everything and it really makes the game more fun in my opinion.
I very much enjoy the game with just the monuments. But yeah, I would probably never play without player roles again, as well as secret objectives.
I like everything about this game but the size. I just don’t have the space for that big a box. 😢
So we are having a scoring question regarding the civic building scoring. For a civic building with adjacent residential building of 4, do you score one for the building or four for the residential points?
As I recall, the scoring of civic buildings is based on the icon on the building you have built. So you only score one type of points per civic building. Thanks for the question and for watching. -Lincoln
I find a bit of a shame that we never had the opportunity to see this game from a 45° angle of view. The point of view from above does not reflect the majesty of that board that I really want to see ^^
Glad to be here! Nick, welcome! Sorry I missed you at the Con!
I think this a great game with 3D components then the usual cardboard components.
I'm fascinated by this game, I love the historical theme...unfortunately, just from looking at the size and scope of it, I know I'll never be able to afford such a big game. But I'll enjoy watching it played anyway.
Dave is the Woody Harrelson of board gaming!
Hmmm....
Thank you for the playthrough. I enjoyed watching it because this has been one of the hot games recently. I know you guys don't really talk about this much (Lincoln started alluding to it at the end), but after watching the gameplay, the value proposition for this game just isn't there to me. At the end of the day, this is really all about the table presence. The actual gameplay is really similar to another Matsuuchi game, Century Spice Road: gathering resources and trading up for better ones. But you can get Century Spice Road for around $30 new, and this game, because of the admittedly gorgeous buildings and trays, is likely going to cost around $120 for the base game in the next Kickstarter.
The 2nd campaign is running now. Game is $200 + shipping. It is $230 + shipping if you want the new expansion included.
@@TheClyd3Man Holy crap. I didn’t know the new campaign was running yet. I just kind of took a guess as to how much the increase would be. That’s absurd.
@@cornichon2580 It's actually great being able to get a game set up and playing in less than 5 minutes. The increase is probably the result of supply chain issues and shipping priority. Hopefully for all of us, the world gets back to some semblance of normal soon!
@@JackieFox1976 I don't question that getting a game to the table quickly is nice or that prices have increased (I do question the price doubling, but neither here nor there really). I just don't think this relatively light game looks worth the $200+ price point.
@@cornichon2580 Ah, well that could be. Value definitely depends on how often you think you'll get it to the table and how much enjoyment you think will be derived from the components when you do.
I could build this game, sort of print and play, with cardboard pieces and some cards. And generic coins that I already have. I might
It would be cool to covert some blokus components
👍
Great video! I originally backed this because I was very excited about the game play; however, I ended up selling it once I received it. I still think the game play is amazing as I love games with simple actions where the depth is in the decisions, but the over production just ruins it. It makes it harder to get to the table and harder and longer to play. I really wish it was just flat.
Price point for this game is ridiculously high for most people.
Average price for a board game is like 30$, so that doesn't really say anything.
@@crossrhodes14 This one is like well over $100 though
@@ShuffleUpandDeal32 And? Games >60$ in price sell only to a fraction of people who play board games. So again, that doesn't really change anything. Games like this are created for a very niche audience, they aren't meant to be bought by "most people".
@@crossrhodes14 Just saying maybe if the game was way more affordable more people would buy it and not just a niche group. That should be the goal of any game publisher.
@@ShuffleUpandDeal32 No, the goal of any game publisher is making money. If they see that they can earn more money by making niche product than by making affordable ones, they should make that niche product.
Chinatown is my choice for light area control
I wonder what the reasoning is for not having an even number of turns. Dave had one more turn than everyone else and won.
Dave is looking great, he appears to of lost some weight!
Yay, thanks. The black shirt always helps, of course. And maybe that slight sunburned forehead :)
Refusing to make a cardboard version of this game is just stubborn stupidity. I would never buy this, I couldn't fit it into my gaming shelf :D. Gloomhaven was bad enough, It sort of became more or less a piece of furniture eventually, before i sold it.
Also, my OCD really doesn't like the buildings not being aligned with the bases :D.
Its a perfect intro beautifull game but the expansion are useless. For trading, I prefer chinatown because it is a part of the game.
There needs to be some sort of non-partisan third party commission to approve or reject the use of plastic instead of punch boards in tabletop games.
This game looks embarrassingly wasteful 😨
This must be one of THE most boring games of all time 😴😴😴
