Richard Pryor talking about this movie during one of his standup comedies is solid gold. They filmed in an active Level IV prison and Pryor always had to hold Wilder back from just wandering into General Population to strike up casual conversation with the most violent felons. Best comedy duo for decades.
I think it was Jonathan Banks (who plays Graham in this) that relayed a story of how all the cast and crew had to stand in a single file line entering and leaving the prison every day. One of those days, Charles Weldon, who played Blade, was pulled out of line by a guard and held over because they thought he was a real prisoner trying to escape! They didn't notice he was gone until they got back to their hotel, which was about 30 or so miles away, and some PA had to drive back and get him! 😂
now THIS is a fun fact!
Pryor: "Why did you kill everyone in the house?" Inmate: "They was home."
Best line in his set “We are just p*ssy on the hoof”
Do you have. Link for that?
Wilder's face and body language as he approached Grossberger was hilarious 😂! The older comedians and comedies about the only time I laugh lately. I love comedy and happiness
Too foppish!!
Ikr, Priceless bahahahahaha bahahahahaha,bahahahahaha!!!
2:11 😂 It’s the hands around his Crown Jewels 💎. Like he’s saying, “Deez NUTS 🥜!” 😅😊
Pryor's facial expressions should won 10 oscars.
He was a master of physical comedy, The world is a lot less funny without him.
He was one of those comedians who could convey entire sentences with just his expressions alone.
hell yes lol that man was a genius
I MET HIS DAUGHTER FEW YEARS AGO, SHE WAS A SPITTING IMAGE OF HIM, I DON'T KNOW IF THAT'S A GOOD THING FOR A WOMAN!!!🤷♂️🥴🤦♂️
Yep. Incredible
40 years later and I'm still laughing
I'm with you!!
Lol same here boss
Yes ,an 40 years later they haven’t got the star power to make anything like this type of quality of comedy a movie.
It’s endless laughter 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👍👍🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
@@BullyBoxer Agreed. It's all CGI now, the script takes second place and is mostly sycophantic puke
I love how Wilder's expressions of care and concern turn to complete panic 😂
These guys rocked back in the day, another really good Richard Pryor and Gene Wilder movie is see no evil hear no evil.
and SILVER STREAK
that scene where pryor pretended that he just learned he was black had me in stiches
When was the last time you were laid?
That movie is hilarious
Loved that movie, only thing is I never saw this one...... still to this day😭
The guy that played Grossberger, Erland van Lidth, was also Dynamo in The Running Man with Arnold Schwarzenegger. He actually went to MIT and studied computer science, and was a teaching assistant while still an undergraduate. He earned a BS in Computer Science and Electrical Engineering.
After MIT, he moved to NYC and worked in computers and taught computer programming, where he was discovered by the casting director for The Wanderers. While working and fitting in his movie shoots he was studying for an operatic career. So, that is him singing in both Stir Crazy and The Running Man.
Sadly, he was only 34 when he died of heart failure in 1987, not too long after filming The Running Man.
damn that is Dynamo lol
He looks likeca pr1ck with ears
Aw man. I liked him. He was cool
"....and...slapping my hand."
*puts hand back*
LMAO!
2:50 😅😅🤣🤣🤣
I always laugh when Grossberger put his arm around his tray. Lol!
I use to do that during lunch in middle school, as if someone would come and take it. Lol
Yeah it’s a clever bit of writing/acting. Showing him to be a kid and an animal all at the same time.
and growled!!
😂 That way Gene approaches Greosberger like a stray dog, trying to garner some trust.
🤣🤣😂
2:11 😂😂😂😂😂
Still remember when my Stepfather took me to see this. I never laughed so hard as a kid with some of the scenes in this movie!
“I wouldn’t sit with him when I killed my stepdaddy!”
Richard Pryor’s reaction is priceless! 😂😂
And richard is like: "That figures enough"
"AND I killed my step daddy"
Why?
Wilder saying he seems so gentle..ain't nothing gentle about Grossberger!!
Every time I watch this movie it has me in stitches! And that’s been for the last 25 years! 😂
Definitely the best work these two ever did. The facial expressions... LOL
Omg I just love this movie. Richard Pryor and Gene Wilder are so hilarious together. This movie never gets old. I literally have watched this movie too many times to count. All the actors did a great job. This is definitely one of my favorite movies to watch. ❤
Best comic duo ever....
Gene Wilder and Richard Pryor are one of my all-time favorite comedy teams! I've liked them ever since their first pairing in "Silver Streak." God rest them both. 🙏❤️
The look on Richard Pryors face as they're telling him about Grossburger! LOL
His reaction at 0.24 would make an excellent GIF
Richard Prior is one of the very few geniuses of the world. I crying with laughter just from his expressions. One of my favourite scenes is when he's pinned up against his cell bed from grossberger. Miss you forever but never forgotten my friend.
Gene Wilder's look of cluelessness is top notch 😂😂😂😂
Ikr, his innocence always precedes him, which makes ever unexpected look and action he does even more hilarious!!!
I liked Gene Wilder and Richard Pryor together in movies, always funny 😂
Hell yeah😂wish they could of done more
💯
@@damiennknox7912 actually,they did....Silver Streak back in 1976,Hear No Evil,See No Evil in 1989....
@@daxterclark5092 great stuff
Grandi gene Wilder e Richard Pryor!, forza Lazio carica w la Pausini
"I'll wait until after he's had a little nap!" 😂😂
for criticising my new fur jacket... and slapping my hand. Still cracks me up to this day.
Criticizing my new fur jacket and pause.....Slapping my hand great comedic timing expressions on Pryers face is priceless
Richards face is golden lmao 😂
There will never again be anyone like Gene Wilder or Richard Pryor. Pryor was the funniest man ever.
SECOND FUNNIEST…WILDER A TRIP…ONE CRAZY CRAZY WHITE MAN…FACIAL MOVEMENTS.
Period.
These 2 together were pure gold ,funny funny funny 😄😆🤣😂
What a classic I was a young fella when this movie came out still funny as hell today 🙃 rest in peace mr. Prior mr. Weiler 🙏🏽
Bahahahahaha, tha way he starts to approach dude is priceless lol!!!
It’s so funny, almost looks like a typical high school cafeteria bully scene when big dude first walks out.
For a second I was thinking the big guy was Butterbean lol
Or King Kong Bundy..😏
When I first saw this movie as a kid I thought it was King Kong Bundy the wrestler.
They made 4 movies together this is the best one
Richard Pryor’s facial expressions are classic! 😃
I haven't seen this movie in so long. Not since I was a kid. Pryor and Wilder always had great chemistry working together. All of their movies were hilarious.
Love how Pryor freezes mid-bite at the *Horror of Grossburger* 0:22 This movie was a Monster Hit earning over $100,000,000 in 1980 dollars (the equivalent of $310Million in 2019) Only "9-5" (by just several million with the advantage of a PG rating) and of course "The Empire Strikes Back" earned more. Years before Spike Lee convinced the world he was the only Black Director on earth, *Sidney Poitier* directed this R-rated, mega-hit masterpiece of comedy, paving the way for the black filmmakers who would follow.
Spike aint made a joint worth fire kindling
wow that's interesting
It'll probably earned more then that, if it came out today.
@Chuck Anya actually Sidney Poitier was known for a acting in general and did several comedy movies. Google him
@Chuck Anya "Lets do it Again" "A Piece of the Action". Great Comedies.
I thought Pryor was Chaplinesque. He could say more with his face than others could say with dialogue.
He is so expressions are priceless. The mustache gives it the Chaplin
That's saying a very great deal given that, additionally, Richard Pryor was the comedian who did more than any other to popularize and perfect the format of one comedian talking and telling stories, etc on stage for an hour or more rather than telling a bunch of small unrelated jokes.
Don't you think that's the other way around
"I see what it is. Nobody has every just sat down and honestly talked with that man. Poor kid.". ROFL
I’ll wait til after he’s had a little nap. 🤣. Who wouldn’t want to talk to Willy Wonka?
This scene has relevance later on in the movie. When they place Grossberger in the cell with them, they are able to make friends with him because Skip had already tried to be nice to him.
He lived his life his Way, through all his ups and downs he brought joy to many people he will be missed
Two legends. I grew up watching their movies.
my all time favorite comedy. never gets old lol
Them old school movies had that wit and satire to em I swear 😂
Man this movie was HILARIOUS lmao I grew up watching it
I love how the big guy protected his food as if the great Gene Wilder could/steal it! Classic!
"That's Gross burger.... Biggest mass murderer in the South West?"
Skip wanders over 😂😂
Pure balls!
Cause skip is stupid.
@@scottsullivan7582 he wants to be friends with everyone that's his problem
Believe it or not, the actor that played Grossberger graduated from MIT and was also an accomplished opera singer
Guess their was no money in his other career so he chose acting.😅
That's how my wife enters our home.
HAHAHAHAHA Feel bad for you!
🤭🤭🤭🤭
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Lol
Same lol
Richard Pryor has to be the funniest man that ever lived 😂😂
Rip gene and richard
Great due
Love this scene, particularly the "Mmmm" at the end, while he's seasoning his taters. Grossberger (Erland Van Lidth De Jeude) and his brother, Philip, were students in my dad's High School English class. They were apparently both good guys and highly intelligent.
Gene wilder was a genius. RIP
scott duncan
I Film and Photograph Demons that Manifest in FACE-FORMED Structures that all..
Celebrities Entertainers Actors
and Politicians are COVERED with.
Gene Wilder has some of the most Evil looking Demons Manifesting on him that you can't even imagine.
These Demonic Principalities are Undetectable to Human Sight due to the fact that they are hidden within the 30 frame flicker rate per second within all Hollywood Movies:
These Demons are Manifesting
in an Continuous Motion and why we cannot see them because they are just outside of our perception.
These Demons, which Manifest in FACE-FORMED Structures (Faces)
can be Filmed and Photographed in the Eyes, Hair, Face, Skin, Neck, Shoulders, Arms, Elbows, Wrists, Knuckles, Fingers, Hands, Chest, Stomach, Legs, Knees, Ankles, Toes and Feet.. And on Clothing.
They Manifest in many different shapes and sizes due to an Hierarchy Of Positions.
Jesus Christ is Coming very soon

@Andy T You are the real idiot saying that no one is allowed to rank anybody, what about ranking your Mama butthead? Richard Pryor ( R.I.P) was the greatest comedy genius that ever lived.
@Andy T Everyone can rank what they want, who are you the ranking police? Rip Richard Pryor the greatest comedian.
@Andy T Get back in your pram Bro.
Probaly killed by that guy coz he reminds of his family RIP

" But he hasn't killed anybody here yet .... " 😅😭😭💀☠☠
Love this movie....saw it when it came out....tears of laughter.....ty.....good up load
2:06 get on there white bread LMAO
😂😂
That is one big man 😂
Erland Van Lidth. 6'6" and about 350 lbs. A monster of a man.
" Why you killed your daddy anyway " ... for criticizing my new fur jacket and slapping my hand 🤣
Gene Wilder and Richard Pryor both hilarious . Wilders hilarious in Young Frankenstein very very very funny..
Look up 'Young Frankenstein bloopers'. 😂😂😂
Abbey Normal?
Criticizing my new fur jacket and slapping my hand
That's funny😂😂😂
He would have to kill me.

Last night I smoked a bowl before watching, couldn’t stop laughing...
They’re the best comedy duo!
Defiantly
@@pwareham61 Um, so do you agree or disagree?
Richard Pryor was such a sweetheart. I miss his no-holds-barred humor.
That look on Wilder's face at 02.17 😂
Eddie Murphy got his "Life" movie inspiration from this movie..."You gonna eat yo cornbread?"
...and slapping my hand! Classic!
LOL
2:51 😂😂😂
Pryor and Wilder were great together, they had real chemistry, and this is my favourite film of theirs.
Clazdic duo.I remember well how funny these guys were together.
Two legends & this is an 80s classic.
Just hearing his entrance music is priceless
I love this movie! Back in the day!
metal napkin holders in a prison..HAHAHA
They’d be turned into the best prison knives in the place inside of thirty minutes 🤣
Every one of those chairs has metal legs. Its like a shank factory.
In the US it might be a joke. Other places are more civilized...
And a guard holding a shotgun near the prisoners! I guess that's why this is one of the best comedy movies ever!
@@foljs5858 you mean more corrupt?
The ring he’s wearing is his actual MIT class ring. His name was Erland Van Lindth. He was an Olympic wrestler, computer science engineer and opera singer. Died way too young.
Acting was a sideline for him. Being that huge is bad for heart.
Aren’t you amazed at the quality of these vegetables in a prison lol, Pryor’s facial expressions deserve there own three part mini series on Netflix.
"he seems so gentle...😁
Even though I watched the movie when it came out in a theater, 40 years ago, with my dad, it seems like a few years ago when I watch these scenes again. It's actually funnier to me now than it was then, as a teenager.
Lmao. Gene Wilder and Richard Pryor are so great in their movies. XD
Gene Wilder can get more laughs with one simpy "Hell-o-o-o!" than your average guy telling jokes for 5 straight minutes.
I remember when it came out..🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣still hilarious..a true classic 👍👍👍
Do you know the grossburger was the classical piano player?
When Richard Pryor was crying in the jail cell, I almost peed my pants laughing
2:13 *me when someone aproaches me while i eat*
🤣
With those four slices of bread and mashed potatoes its a wonder he didn't get bound up!!llol
I'm amazed at what's crawling in our soup... Little creatures.. there.
That actually had me crying......the acting seemed so real 🤣😂 pure genius!!! RIP Mr Richard Pryor
What goes in prison stays in prison
That alone should convince people to stay out of trouble.
All that for some salt 😂
So love them two together. Rip
The look on Richard pryor face ...brilliant..
Hahaha never gets old this film.. still good to this day
I don’t know why I laughed so hard when the officer racked his shotgun. Something about his face with the side eye, hilarious.
Gene & Richard...like Starsky, & Hutch of comedy 😃
Pryor stopping mid bite upon seeing that inmate is gold
Hearing Richard’s wife Jennifer on Joey Diaz’s podcast a few weeks ago really was an eye opener about him and his demons and the issues on set making this classic movie. Worth a listen if anyone’s interested
This movie the funniest underrated movie of all time . Gene & Richard ( Hilarious ) nothing comes close
Is he here for rehabilitation?
Poor kid 😂
Eh, No, he's in for life.
😂😂😂
The best movie duo the world lost 2 of the best actors on this planet
I love how grosbberber growls and guards his food like an animal feeling threatened lolz 🤣🤣🤣 genius film
The scene when Richard is about to put a piece of bread in his mouth and pauses when he sees grossberger hilarious
0:24 pryors face is a picture lol
Everyone in this scene is just tops! Next level I mean this scene to me is more Oscar worthy than Shakespeare in love!
The pause with the bread 😂😂
Still one of the funniest movies! Wilder and Pryor were a priceless team!✌️
Nobody could play scared better than Pryor.
Loved this movie!!😂😂
