  • In this video, I'll show you how to calculate the conversion constant needed to program the PSOM in you 92-96 F-Series/Bronco, this should also apply to the 97 F250/F350.
    For a ton of detailed information, and how to figure out your RevsPerMile manually, please visit Steve83's supermotors page: www.supermotors.net/registry/m...

    Thanks to the Johnathan East band for allowing the use of their song "That Ole Ford Truck" in my new intro.

    Excellent Video, easy to understand and follow. I think It helped me understand the root of the problem I had on my truck.
    My 1992 F150 I-6 300 4AOD was running rough, late, violent upshifts from 1-2, lagging performance. it had a dead Tachometer, so I pulled the PSOM and repaired a cold solder joint, Truck ran much better after, but still had issues. I replaced oversize tires I bought it with, bought factory size on the door and now the old truck runs and shifts smoothly. I am convinced it was the PSOM Calibration setting.

    Replaced the PSOM in both of my OBS trucks since I've owned them. When it went bad in my 95 F150, my truck would not shift out of first gear and displayed no other symptoms other than a slight bobbling of the speedo needle at highway speeds. When it went bad in my 94 F250, the odometer was missing numbers from the mileage total, the speedometer went totally dead, and the truck would not shift properly whatsoever. Replaced and all was well again. When an issue comes up with the speedo or odo, and it is accompanied by strange transmission shifting, the PSOM is definitely a good thing to check/try before anything else. Cool video.. will help lots of people.

    Thank you for the in-depth PSOM training on this SPEEDO ADJ adjustments... I am surprised that a math process was involved. vs, getting the formula of read end axel TONE RING nr# -X -REV-MILAGE / by 8K... Were as only thinking to use only the TIRE manufacture REVS PER MILE and use this data and input it in the PSOM.... Thanks for the clarification..!!!

    Thanks for this. Was a tiny bit different on my 92 but matched what i read in some forums, it counts forward not backwards and didnt seam to have any limit to how often i could change it, it didnt even have a reset counter, n the psom port wasnt labeled but in the exact spot shown. Just got the tuck with a bad transmission but its been on 38s for 20 years n it was still factory tire size on the psom, this should help as i get ready to swap in a good transmission.

I’ve also noticed that the cruise control doesn’t work when this starts to act up. I have a 1993 F 250 XLT HD. I was thinking it’s an issue with PSOM but I don’t know how to test. Great video! One thing I figured out while re-calibrating mine was the jumper didn't like the cigarette lighter ground and wouldn't let me toggle through the CAL settings. I moved the alligator clip down to the bolt that holds the seat belt to the floor by the center console and that did the trick. My tires are a little worn so now the speedo is showing high by about 1-2% but it's WAY better than it was before (10+mph low) and now the transmission is shifting much smoother, especially on downshifts coming up to a stop light. Hope this helps someone!

    Is it possible to change the psom from E to O? That is the problem I'm having, I believe. My speedo is set to E, but the speedometer is metric and reads too high, while the odometer reads too low, I believe. It's a Canadian truck, and I would think the PSOM should be set to O and not E. I've heard about people who have had this setting change on them....but don't know how to change it back.

    This was a great video. Super easy to follow for us who are not so mechanically inclined.... I need to replace the PSOM on my 95 f150, I would like to put in one that has a tachometer on it. Would that just be plug and play? Or do I need to do any wiring? Also does the replacement PSOM need to be from another 95? Or will a 93/94 work too?

    • @obsgarage6682
      @obsgarage6682  6 років тому +2

      It always been my understanding replacing a cluster must be done in groups. 92-93, 94-95, and 96-97 are compatible with each other. With that said, I have heard of people using off years successfully but perhaps that has something to do with the build date of the particular donor and recipient vehicle ?? Who knows. I successfully swapped a 95 cluster with tach into a 95 f150 with no problems. What you do is remove the entire donor cluster and just remove/replace the psom (speedo) into the new cluster and install it. It should plug and play. When people use different year other that I listed I have heard reports of a no charging condition or the battery light staying on, etc.

    4:56 How does the speedometer influence a electronic controlled transmission. Im looking at eecIV and eecV pinout and I dont see anything from the speedometer or tach. Im under the impression that the MLPS, OSS
    and VSS controls when to shift. Please what am i missing?

    • @willyt.franklin9039
      @willyt.franklin9039 4 роки тому +3

      The VSS signal goes into the PSOM as a square wave form from the rear axle speed sensor. The PSOM converts this to a digital value and sends that to the ECM. The ECM uses the digital value to tell the transmission when to shift. I'vhad a few trucks with late upshift, hard shifts, no overdrive all from a bad PSOM.

    The best formula is 20168/ by tire height divided by.6666 should give you calculation number. I went by new tires and it was correct went reverse with the numbers and came up with the stock tire height for a check. Tried 2 other ways and they where off.

    I'm replacing my 97 f 250HD XL guage cluster with an XLT cluster which includes the tachometer, like the one in your video. 2 Questions, is this a plug and play swap as far as the tach goes and what will the odometer read, actual vehicle mileage, or replacement cluster mileage. I guess what I'm asking is where is actual vehicle mileage stored.

    • @rustyshackleford6060
      @rustyshackleford6060 Рік тому

      Mileage is stored on the PSOM, so it will show the new clusters mileage. You can either transfer your PSOM from the old cluster to the new (if the PSOM isn't the part that's broken) Or send the new cluster to a repair company that can program your mileage onto it.

      No. The tone wheel is on the ring gear. Think if everything connected to the ring gear is stock (Ring gear to tires) , then your gear ratio change only changes the pinion shaft rotations before the ring gear/ tone wheel. Hopefully I explained that clear enough.

      You’ve got to take the column covers off and to the right of the column you’ll see where the little white shifter cable connects at the dash. There is a little black wheel that you use to adjust the shifter indicator. Put the truck in a low gear while turned off to release tension on the cable. Release the copper cable that runs through the white tube from the hook then spin the little black wheel to release the assembly. :)

Holly mother of Joseph, I feel like I have been missing out of a lot of power and great shifting. I wish I would of done this from day one! If you have a lifted F series and have not checked this, do it! Now the cat doesn't make so much stink, it gets and goes like i got a set of headers on it or something! It took me 5 minutes to double check math, and 5 mins to find a jumper, then 2 minutes to change it! I would say this is a MUST if you have an automatic. Also seems like my engine is a little more beastly. Over all it has definitely gotten rid of that DOGGY SLOW feeling from big tires. This is a must for anyone that is looking for more power or get up and go.

      The calculations are made from tone ring teeth, this is directly related to wheel revolutions, so wont matter if you have 4.11s or 3.55s or 5.76s.

    Why should we care to do this?
    If you upsize the tire, your odometer will increment more slowly, helping the value of the truck.
    If you go from 29" to 32" just add 10% to the speedometer reading.
    While it's cool that it's possible to program it, I see no reason to actually do it
