Two years in a row, the SNL episodes hosted by John Mulaney have been the best shows of each season. Amazing writer and performer.

I would say he’s amazing talker I want to say he isn’t an amazing actor because he’s basically playing John in a costume not someone else that’s why I’m surprised Nick Kroll didn’t get a spot on SNL

@@sailormagic13 Well John says his self that he's a writer at heart not a performer and I think thats true. I mean stand up is a performance and he has great stage presence but he's not the best at playing a wide range of different characters (he's improved but at the time probably way too limited) Picking him for a writer made perfect sense. Nick Kroll is a good actor and he can do a million different characters, so i agree them not picking him for a cast member is odd but alot of things factor into who they pick I guess.

He's a buisnessman. I guess he can be a nice person, but sometimes he's just has to be an asshole, because he's working for a bilion dollar company. Sometimes he'll cut a sketch, sometimes he'll dismiss someone's idea and sometimes he'll just tell someone that he screwed up. There's a reason why Lorne has been in charge longer than most of ths cast is alive.

Assuming you have not yet seen this, I'm gonna link here (and also put the link randomly on a comment section for others who ''seek'' to overcome depression by watching SNL sketches) the documentary about the SNL creating process, that can be entertaining and informative as well, made by James Franco. Honestly, I did not even knew such thing exist, but the insight into the whole process from the time when Seth was a head writer and Higgins was a producer and Hader / Mulaney's chemistry is clearly palpable even before John came up with Stefon e c.t. has made me (for an hour and a half) not to think about the global pandemic and the 2020 daily playlist. If you've already seen it, than I apologize for linking it under your comment from 7 months ago, but if you didn't... I hope it can take your mind off for a while. I hope you are safe and soon to enjoy the behind story telling video of the team back then. ua-cam.com/video/Eu3LyygiSJM/v-deo.html

You can argue Jack Donaghy, but I think he was more a parody of bottom line capitalism ego-centric corporate nonsense. Jack wasn't even it for the sake of being in the entertainment business. It as just a step on his path to becoming a corporate overlord.

TBH I think the reason "Mulaney" failed as a show is because it was some of his stand up made into a tv show. So me having watched his stand up and then watching the first episode im like oh I know that joke...and that one...and that one, which turned out to be the whole show.
Regardless of that John Mulaney is awesome and I will always be a huge fan. Hope I get to meet him someday.

I know it's unfair to comedians to expect them to never reuse material, particularly when it's good, but it does get tiresome when you already know the punchline and for some reason it's different than just rewatching a joke being told when it's in a different setting. Kid Gorgeous was a bit disappointing for me because I'd watched Hilarity for Charity specifically for John, so when KG was released and I realized I'd already heard some of its best jokes, it was just a slight bummer.
