You are fantastic! I woke up to the glutes 2 yrs ago when my ANKLE seized up. If I'd known about your channel, the journey would have been very much faster. I had to find out that I couldn't get the glutes properly fired until I fixed the pelvic floor (I hurt my back at age 32), and then they all follow. I'm still on the journey. - I'm 75. I can now even jog gently At 65 I thought I was on the way to being an invalid. Finding those glutes has been a lifesaver and I've still a LOT of work to do!!

My wife has had seven operations on her left knee for replacement. She was prescribed medication to fight the infection/rejections. The medication affected her kidneys, to the point she was put on dialysis. Before the last operation, I refused to doctor that prescribed the bad medication to be used again. So far things are working out. That doctor is in Oklahoma City and claimed that he sees 50 patients each day. Thankfully another discovered the problem and took my wife off the medication. I have been told I need a knee replacement from arthritis. Recently my knee was swollen and I had trouble bending it. I have had an ACL repair on my other knee so I’ve done many PT sessions. Yes they focus on quads and hamstrings. So I went back to my exercises. This was making it worse. I did one session of your glute exercises and my pain is gone and I can bend my knee more. It totally helped me!! Thank you so much in just one session

    For future reference:
    1. Low resistance high repetition (like cycling) but use glute muscles not quads
    2. Strengthen your glutes, and get constant control of them
    3. Stretching with muscle activation 33:00. Use your muscles to your advantage to get full range of motion if you have knee stiffness

I also have a meniscus tear from a fall and it has taken me 3 years to find the right physiotherapist n chiripractist. Didn't know they have such diverse approaches. One kept printing out exercise routines, not understanding how to push on despite the pain, as advised 'no pain,no gain'... I had to stop as they didnt improve the inflammations. I went to different ones but didnt improve until I saw Dr David's videos. His advices are to strengthen the glutes and always exercise enough before it hurts. Something I had to experiment and adjust as inflammation easily hinders progress. Dr David rightly suggested, 'low resistance, high frequency' rather than 'no pain,no gain'. Thanks to Dr David I gain much more strength now to walk without the walker. Another physical therapist's videos that I check out is Will Harlow, HT Physio over-50s Specialist. I am so blessed to have Dr David's and Will's professional expertise otherwise, according to my doctors, surgeries are often thwarted as the better option. I'm writing from Australia.

Hi Dr David, Oxfordshire UK here, thanks for your videos - so clear, they've already helped me.
Regarding orthotics, c 18 yrs ago age 45 I had knee pain - both knees -, a young GP said prob the beginning of OA. Already was wearing NHS orthotics, but later by a series of 'chance meetings'/miracles I found a guy who made customised orthotics, by scanning the whole foot 360 degrees, that info put through a computer prog to turn it into 3D graphic, then the shell printed from that, correct flexibility for my weight, foam layer added and non-slip topping.. brilliant. End of knee pain. Then last year I twisted my ankles walking on mud which had baked hard, full of ruts. Within a day or two my knees started stinging, then became more painful. X-rays show early OA, by the end of last year using your glute exercises, and better diet, pain had gone. Then early this year I reaggravated the knees by climbing very steep steps - so frustrating!. This time the pain is mainly at the front, at the top of the shin bones, underneath front of kneecaps. Wearing tubigrip helps support them, but after a while the pressure seems to make the knee pain worse. Any advice you could give on this would be much appreciated. Stephen

Hi Dr. David, I live in Northern CA. I'm 83 years old & have OA on both bone on bone knees. I use a walker at night & in the mornings because of stiffness. I walk with a cane during the day. I've been doing chair yoga stretch exercises but need to start doing your easy, effective ones again. I've had so many injections in my knees over the years, including stem cell, cortizone, etc.. etc.--nothing worked for me! Going for knee surgery will not work for me either for various reasons. If I lived in Texas, I would go to your clinic for a thorough evaluation.

This is fantastic. Doctors you must understand, we go to see a doctor and they don't even touch you nothing. Get some over the counter pain pills and live with it. That is an appointment. I'm really into home workouts and now working on my butt muscles to reduce using my thigh muscles. It really takes time to learn how to work the muscles this way and I really have to start alone to concentrate. Great stuff. The key for me from this video is reducing speed.

Then I was sent for a course of hydrotherapy, and wow! it has certainly helped with the pain. I am back to walking 4km with my dogs in the morning. Dr. David,
You rare doing a great job. I appreciate your dedication and sincerity for patients like me. So far watching your video I am convinced that at this age I should avoid the surgery and keep strengthening my Glutes.
So I am seeking your advice. Here is my current condition.
Age: 70 yrs., 5’-5” tall, Weight: 138 lbs.
Exercise: On average 3 days per week least 30 min., per day. as directed by the N euro-Therapist.
Ostia Arthritis since 2016: Taking 1.5mg Meloxicam on need basis. (2023 left knee MRI, no meniscus tear or bursa but the Petillar cartriledge is almost worn out.) Cortisone injection, Uflexa gel injections had no impact on the pain or arrested movement on the joint. Glucosamine tablets did not help. Orthopedic surgeon has given his final say; go for Knee replacement. But am very hesitant to take such a course now So I am waiting to see a Pain specialist.

Just discovered you. You have a life long fan if you stay logical like this! I am still unhappy with the "physical therapy" I got last year for not being able to walk more than a few steps without bad pain. I have psoriatic arthritis BUT like many people, I have more than 1 kind of arthritis. I was a competitive skater and still have very, very strong quads and old injuries. Has anyONE EVER paid any attention to that? No. Everyone goes straight for PsA as the sole diagnosis and strengthening quads as the sole non-med treatment (but straight to drugs first).
I already feel some relief, albeit temporary at this stage, just doing the few glute stretches you are showing.
I will have to look for hand and shoulder exercises, plus more on this rest idea. You probably already know from the skating history that my philosophy is "Oh. You fell? Ok. Get up and do it again."
I'm doing everything seated right now.
Ready to buy a motorhome and come stay there while you run me through everything.

      Hey Lindaray,
Thanks for sharing your story. Being a competitive skater must have been so much fun. yes I can see how you have been over working your quads. When that happens your body wants to turn them on all the time. So the idea is getting those to relax and increase the dependence your gluts for activities will be most beneficial for you!! We have great RV spots by the mountains.

On the subject of orthotics, I can’t imagine walking without my knee sleeves, for me it definitely helps, I think my knees would be much worse without them. What I’m surprised that you didn’t mention, was how important it is to wear the proper footwear (especially flip flops- I think for preventing injuries), that’s how I got my heel spurs, from wearing my shoes long after the soles wore out! You’re amazing 🤩, though, I just subscribed to you.

My x rays show not really bone on bone, the cartilage is getting worn down because of the stress I put on it (another story). But they both creak and grate on each other. I watched just one other video from you, and I'm going to try and walk outside just a short distance tomorrow for a start. We'll see what happens after that. Dr. David, you are genius, a great instructor and my saver. Everything you said, the suggestions, and the exercises really came from your heart, the years of skill and experiences. They are making sense and really work. It has been 3 months that I pulled the door close and accidentally hit my Rt toes. Due to the sever pain on my toes up to my top ankle, I quickly pull my Rt. leg and slammed my foot down to the floor too fast and realized that it was not the right time and the right angle, from that day my knee was so swollen burning and painful when walking. I have been searching for the suggestions and solutions through in the internet: I did rest, use cold compression, NSIAD votaren gel, and exercise. The swollen, burning and pain is slowly a little bit less but still flared after a short walking. I felt that it is too long now and my problem might just be the improper alignment of my knee joint that I still could not overcome. After been watching so many info in the internet, THIS CLIP OF YOUR IS THE BEST ON TOP OF ALL. I already followed your channel. Thank you so much sir. and May God bless you for what you are doing!!!

I've been focusing on using the glutes more now, thanks to you: when swimming, cycling, and standing teaching a class. It has really helped. Just found out yesterday from my orthopaedic surgeon that my knee is in a very bad condition, so I can't avoid a having a knee replacement. However, your exercises and advice will help build strength in my pre-op and post-op phase. Overall, I think "glute" swimming along with weight loss has helped immensely in managing my OA. Appreciate what you do to educate people on managing their pain. Physiotherapy is so crucial for recovery.

Love the advice and passion about *not* strengthening the quads! I think my quads are super strong, since I was a fencer back in the day and have done extensive squats and lunges. Bridges can sometimes cause cramping on the backs of my thighs. How to address cramps/cramping? Thanks for all you do and for all the videos!

You are the best! No dooctors ever told me about strengthening my glutes, you are 100 percent on the right track, ever since my friend Nikita sent me your link, I have taken your suggestions,
You helped cure my neck pain with the arm stretch overhead and the glute exercises are helping my weak stomach muscles and it seems that my hiatal hernia is not as bad, Thank you so much,
Also, i had a few injuries, in past, which I plan to look up most of your videos to get more help, many blessings to you and your family! I live in New Jersey, but maybe one day will get to visit your clinic.
Take care and stay safe, Marie

I have bone on bone pain which is excruciating as well as the noise in the knee, well I should say I did but since I have been watching your videos the one where you said place a small hand towel behind the knee and place the leg on the bed and slowly lower and hold also the swinging gently back and forth I am ecstatic it has been so long since I was without pain so I am doing these exercises 2/3 per day and thinking before kneeling or climbing a ladder or pruning trees taking a break instead of going non stop until I am finished. So I just want to say thank you so very much . ❤️

Thank you for answering a question about alternatives and not pushing knee surgery that is constantly mentioned by the sports medicine folks. At 84, I do not fit the bill for surgery. My legs work just fine. My problem is pain while walking or standing for a long time. I have worked out since I was 18 and still use my treadmill periodically to avoid overworking my left knee where I have the pain with some fluid. Tylenol works somewhat.
