That button behind the trigger guard is called a action bar lock. It is NOT a safety. It does NOT lock the firing pin.
Correct. Shotguns are really drop safe and the safety itself doesn’t cover the firing pin. I shucked the shells out mine and it was scary. So I had to practice taking out one at a time by pressing the pin that holds them in.
@altairibnlaahad9348 I love it when you very dumb idiots attempt to correct someone and get it wrong. It's called the "action release button" or "slide release button". It's locked!!! Already!!! Why would anyone call it a "lock button" when you are trying to unlock it! When you slide the action forward, it locks. You push the button to unlock it and open the action. See the difference?

I just bought one of these, and it's a beast! I believe it may be the best built shotgun out there, even more so than the Benelli M4. The 8+1 shell capacity is awesome.

Dude the 590a1 is my all time favorite shotgun. I think it should be the standard that all shotguns are compared. Because it would be hard to beat the basic stock 590a1. But if they are all equal to that, then there will never be any crappy shotguns ever again. Keep kicking ass man.

The 590A1 is great. Mine is the 18.5" version (no bayonet lug) with 6+1 capacity. A simple bead sight but I like it, quick and easy to aim IMO. Swapped out the furniture and barrel clamp with Magpul, a high viz aluminum follower and Surefire mini scout light (500 Lumens). It's a tad more complicated to take apart and clean than a Remington 870 but it's still easy, just takes a little practice. I like my 870 but my 590A1 is definitely my go-to home defense boomstick.

Absolute unit of a shotgun, would recommend. No shame in considering other shotguns in the 500 series though as they're just as reliable but much lighter. Realistically, most people don't need their shotgun built like an absolute tank like the 590a1 - unless that's specifically what you want. You will definitely feel it if you're dragging it through the woods for any length of time haha

Good video. Thanks for taking the time to create it. I just bought the 51660 mossberg 590a1 as i am going with a front big dot sight from xs sights and the picatinny rail from EGW. I wanted a lower to the barrel sight picture for the failsafe bead,and I'll be mounting a holosun green dot. I have the exact same configuration on my REM.870 tactical. Its nice that we can configure our weapons to our own tastes.

The ones with the XS ghost ring sights like yours and mine were originally developed for Blackwater. Thankfully Mossberg made them available to the public. The XS gostrings are superior to Mossberg's in house ghost rings.

Great video mr armchair this is the exact model I am getting ready to pull the trigger on so to speak your video is very informative with good range footage noticed the feed issues you were having was that the fiocchi ammo? I typically run a lot of wolf and black aces tactical buckshot seems to run very well with no issues to date and its reasonable keep up the good work sir
Thank you sir! Yes I was using the fiochi ammo when I had the feeding issues. One thing that I forgot to mention is, during the first shots, I ran some federal power shok slugs, Remington low recoil 00 buck, & some federal 00 buck shot and I did not have any issues with those loads. I also had some feeding issues in my other shotguns with the Fiochi shells.

I have the same 590-A1 and I attacked an OKC 3S Bayonet on. It looks menacing but I dont think it would actually stay on very long unless I also gaff taped it as well. I put a Magpul sling on, too much slack. I dont like the forward sling mount on the cap or behind the Bayonet mount. im looking for a stronger forward monting option.
The 590a1 is a tank. I love the 870 police magnums, but the 590a1 is a better shotgun in my opinion. Good video 👍👍

Hey brother I'm about to buy this exact gun. I'm cross eye dominant and never had a longgun. Do i have to shoot left handed?
Not necessarily but you will have to train so that you can effectively aim with your dominant eye

Can the 590 A1 fire mini shells or does it have to use an adapter?
Great question! By default the A1 cannot but the 590S can.
There is an adapter from OPSol that will work on a Mossberg 590A1 to help with running the mini shells.
I personally like the retrograde better
I like the furniture on the retrograde

Is there a pistol grip mod I could add for the 590A1? If so is there one that you’d recommend?
There are lots of grip options! I am using an ATI M4 style pistol grip with the adjustable stock on my Mossberg 500. I like ATI’s because the grip fits my hands better than others. Magpul also make some good furniture for the 500/590 series too.
Do not get an aftermarket bayonet, they fit loose, get an original military surplus bayonet.

The factory front sight did not do well for me...i changed it to a shorter high-vis sight and lowered the rear sight down almost all the way...now its nutz on at 50 yrds.
