This is one of the most impressive videos on how to load & unload a Mossberg 500 shotgun. The details were easy to follow , step by step instructions to show how to use the shotgun safely. Great job my friend!!!!
Thank you! Just purchased my first shotgun (a Mossberg) and this is exactly what I needed. Even purchased the dummy rounds for practice. Thank you for the quality products and videos. I like to be a responsible gun owner and get fully informed about all of my firearms. These videos help tremendously. Again, thank you.
Excellent tutorial. Need more videos like this instead of the guys posting videos of how good they are with a firearm and acting like everyone else is as experienced as them.
i dont know anything about guns. im from Asia. but this seems like a responsible gun safety guide to me. Never let the gov't take your guns away from you!!!
I’ve had my 500 for a couple of years. I usually just rack it repeatedly to empty the magazine tube (never felt safe to do). I’ve had the thing apart enough times to clean it… Never even occurred to me to press the shell stopper. I’ve always wondered what the little raised area on the bar was for. Thanks.
#Me too. Factory, when I called about cleaning was of little help and pointed me to The Tube. Found a slew of videos. How about as you are taking it down and it sounds like it is falling apart! Video guy that taught me how when it made all those noises said something like, holy crap its falling apart. I keep mine loaded and if I am taking any rounds out I still rack em out but I always take it outside.🦇
I just purchased my first gun which is a Mossberg 500 and JUST TODAY received my dummy rounds and this video has helped me SO MUCH !!! Just from this clip alone I am TOTALLY subscribing to your page. Thank you SO MUCH!!!
Thank you for this "beginners" video. I've had my 590A1 for a few years now, but have been too intimidated to use it without having any instruction. Baby steps. Safe, tiny, baby steps.
I just brought home my new Mossberg 590 S and I’m in the process of reading the owners manual. This video along with the manual was very helpful! I will be picking up my 590 S Shockwave soon! I can hardly wait, but I will definitely be enjoying its bigger brother in the meantime! 😊
Appreciate this tutorial. I've owned my Mossberg 500 Persuader for awhile but never thought about pressing the shell stopper to unload it. Thanks for the great information.
What stood out to me the most is that if you watch this a couple of times, your mind replays the steps with the same mindset that Jeremy explained it with. Taught me to replay/recall a number of points instead of "what did he say?" Thanks Jeremy ! ! Newly scribes and a big humbs up.
this just taught me how to safely check reload, download and safely clear my Mossberg 500 without making me feel stupid when i couldn't find the cartridge stop to let go of my shells 😅
Thank you Sir for your expertise and professionalism. This video is the best so far.I feel much better now to be able to operate my M590 with confidence.
If I say so my self, other than a 38 special this is the best home defense weapon out there. Picked up a Mossberg from the sporting goods shop and it was the best defense tool I've ever purchased 👍
Great video. The Mossberg 500 was the first firearm I ever owned, and in my younger days I have to admit I did not fully appreciate owner's manuals. I will say now I savor and enjoy reading owner's manuals, and have read every manual for my subsequently purchased arms. There are lots of narratives that are not so based in facts that often are considered truths (my favorite is that using steel cased ammunition invalidates a Glock warranty). The feature to unload the magazine was especially helpful as I had not known this in the 9 years I have owned this.
Thanks! Great video. My Mossberg is my first shotgun and I was not at all confident of my handling skills. I'll watch this a couple more times and start practicing.
Gotta say the first time you are loading and unloading the rounds is a bit nerve racking if you are new to shotguns but this video really made it easy. Just take it slowwwwww and always make sure that safety is on .
I've operated/owned shotguns since I was 8 years old. I recently purchased a 590A1, and have been a bit flummoxed (read "clumsy") unloading/loading this model compared to my Winchester Model 12 pump. After practicing a bit, and seeing this video, I feel unloading the round in the chamber requires a bit too much care to ensure that the elevator doesn't pull a new shell from the magazine while you are trying to unload the chambered round. I don't have this issue with my Model 12 (realizing though, that I've been using it for about 40 years). I have two Browning's (Auto5 and a Maxus) that have a magazine lockout, and I can't help but fell a similar mechanism would help matters with this 590A1 (again realizing automatics are sort of an apples to oranges comparison to pumps)
Kirk Carver Hey Kirk, thanks for watching. If you’re not comfortable with the download portion of removing the round from the chamber, you could always empty the magazine tube first, and then simply eject the shell into your hand rather than easing it out.
@@royjohnson465 That sounds a bit different from the problem I have. My gun cycles ok (sometimes a shell will not auto-extract after firing, requiring manual extraction, but otherwise fine) and I don’t have the problem you seem to be having. I’m not aware of any forums. If you find one Id be interested to sign up.

Best pump shotguns hands down. Love my 500. Patiently trying to find a shockwave or 590a1
I'm glad I had a father who taught me all this when I was like 9 years old. My father would say the first three rules safety safety safety, and anytime you pick up a gun I don't care if the person right next to you just check it you always check it yourself
Very well presented video. Information and photography clear and concise. Interesting the dummy rounds are white, all my dummy rounds in various calibers are orange.
Excellent video. Some may find this useful. There's a slight variation to the unloading procedures that I find just as easy, especially if you open the action all the way and a live round gets onto the carrier. At that point, just dump both shells into your hand. Push the carrier up then close the action. Unload the tube as shown and clear/proof the weapon. Never just assume it's cleared or is safe because you counted the shells.
Got a Mossberg 590 from my uncle on my birthday. (my 1st gun) my question is whether or not must I still be pushing that(0:39) in-between shots? about to go to a range and don't wanna mess it up.
We wouldn't recommend you store compressed, thanks! And if you have any other questions or need clarification, feel free to call us at 1-800-363-3555 or email at service@mossberg.com Thank you!
Noob question... I recently purchased a new 590 retrograde. I dry fired my fire arm for practice and was quickly corrected not to do that. Know that now, can that 1 time dry fire have damaged the gun or is it after repetitive dry firing I should be concerned?
Just purchased the Mossberg 590 as my 1st firearm I took it to, 2 different Gun ranges today but neither offered individual 1 on 1 training the 2nd one didn't even allow shotguns so I decided to watch a bunch of utube videos to learn and build confidence to head back to the range and begin firing it myself. This was a phenomenal video very informative showing the ins and outs of safety, loading and unloading Thank You Mossberg. And could u also do a video on the Mossberg Mc2sc if I could request a video on how to properly clean and Maintain them that would be great to Thanks
I find that pressing the shell stop to unload my 500’s magazine works, but not every time and only if I do it pretty briskly. If I’m gentle, it works for about one round in three, if I’m pretty energetic it works about three rounds in four. When it doesn’t work, the shell will come partially out of the magazine and the rim seems to hit the bottom edge of the elevator and become stuck, at which point I have to push it back into the magazine and try again. It always functions flawlessly when cycling the action. I’ve not seen it happen on my 590 or 590A1. Since it always functions flawlessly when firing or cycling the action, I’m not concerned about it. Should I be?
Jim, when "the rim seems to hit the bottom edge of the elevator and become stuck" you can raise (gun inverted) the brass away from the elevator and the shell will then come all the way out. I have seen people in the know say you can file the elevator bottom edge to an angle so the shells don't get stuck on the elevator on their way out of the mag tube. You should not be concerned about it as it is not happening when you are firing or cycling the action.
@@shoersa I didn’t think so, I’ve never had a Mossberg fail to function when firing it, only unloading, so I still trust them with my life. Check local ordnances before doing any kind of gunsmithing on a firearm that you may have to defend yourself with, sometimes that causes some real legal problems.
Just bought my first (590 SPX) and this video was helpful. Snap caps are inbound. Those surefire lights are expensive (especially THAT one) but I want one. Does that model cast a shadow at the top of the light beam?
This raises the level of safe handling, and allows less experienced shotgun users like myself to operate my Mossbergs with peace of mind.
Just got my first gun, so amazing to live in a time with videos like this. I feel much more comfortable being safe with the boom stick as a result.
Getting mine tomorrow. You bet I'm excited!
i told my wife i was going to give her a piece of my mind. now i don't have a mind left. didn't have many pieces.
Amen!
Just picked up my first pump action today. 590 shockwave and always prefer company videos like this for everyone's safety for new to the gun type vids

i 2nd that!!
New Mossberg owner here- 500, 590S and a Shockwave. This is incredibly helpful and well explained. Thank you
New Mossberg owner. Thank you very much for a thorough safety video on the handling of the shotgun.

Good clear communicated video bud 👍
The manual action loading and unloading a shotgun sounds so beautiful. Never gets old.
I've owned my Mossberg 500 for 47 years, since I was 11. Been racking it empty when needed to without any problems.
I just have great respect for people who take gun safety as the top priority.
Excellent tutorial. Need more videos like this instead of the guys posting videos of how good they are with a firearm and acting like everyone else is as experienced as them.
Excellent! Having never used a pump action before, this explained it all. No questions asked!

Very helpful. Bought 1 years ago and haven't loaded it in 10 years. Thanks for the refresher

Great video for teaching the basics. I got a Mossberg 500a as a gift and appreciate the tutorial before I go out with the guys!
Great video! Very informative and professionally produced! As a novice, I was wondering how to load and unload safely, and now I know! Thanks!
Great video. I’ve been to the range with my MB, but this was the best instruction I’ve seen with loading and unloading.

I think this is the only video I've seen that highlights the importance of using the correct cartridges

Thank you! Coming from a Remington background, this helps me be more sure that I'm handling a Mossberg correctly!
This was VERY helpful, way better than the instructions.
I have had Mossberg for ten years now, but I did not know this method, thank you very much

Great information. much better than racking it every time To unload.
@Help I'm A Rock Maybe just more wear and tear?
@Help I'm A Rock ah yes that too! And if you're outdoors you don't want your good ammo Falling in the dirt
Great video. Simple, basic, yet thorough. Well done.👍
Thanks for this video, I inherited my grandfathers shotgun & wanted to make sure I was loading it correctly!
I absolutely love this so much, I am getting myself so excited to learn more and finally own my first Mossberg Shotty😍

A lot of people saying they didn't know to press the shell stopper, or rack it multiple times to clear. All this info is in the Instruction Manual!
you should have a link in the description for to purchase those dummy rounds.
Thank you for the demo…
Well done 👏
Thanks for the upload sir. Just got one of these last night. I have plenty of experience with handguns but not with shotguns.
thank you, great for people new to shotguns.
I love my Mossberg 500 12 gauge. Thank you for the great information.
This is the best video on how to load and unload a shotgun.... A question: Do you store the shotgun with the action pump open ?
That video was superb thanks

Got my 590 mariner today. Super ez to learn and very simple!
This is great! Very clear and straightforward. Thank you! :)
I bought a used 500 tactical. No idea how old it is but this is great.
EXCELLENT INSTRUCTIONAL VIDEO. professionally explained with no BS added
Very well presented video. Information and photography clear and concise. Interesting the dummy rounds are white, all my dummy rounds in various calibers are orange.
Well done. Very methodical and accurate.
Great job. Never take this down!
Great video and superb camera work!

This was amazing and super straight forward! Thank you for making this video. Keep it up sir 🤟
So I have to push the action sliding lever every time I just want to pump it? Even if it doesn’t have a shell???
Thanks. Purchasing my 590 tomorrow. Looking forward to it!
Ambidextrous safety! Thank you.
Perfect video in every aspect…thank you
That was a very informative video! Thank you for posting.

my question is whether or not must I still be pushing that(0:39) in-between shots? about to go to a range and don't wanna mess it up.
The cartridges get stuck when I do that on my brand new shotgun. My other is fine. Never had issues with mossberg till that occurred.
Great video demonstration. Basic and simple.
Great video for a newbie like me. Thank you sir!
I agree this was dope.. i dont think i have ever learned so much in less than 5 minutes.
Great demo, thanks! Is it better to have the firing pin spring compressed or to dry fire before prolonged storage?
We wouldn't recommend you store compressed, thanks! And if you have any other questions or need clarification, feel free to call us at 1-800-363-3555 or email at service@mossberg.com Thank you!
I have a Maverick 88. Its really the same load and unload process. Very good and professional video. The audio was really low was the only problem.
Well done. Thank you.

You can dry fire it all you want. I have hundreds of dry presses on Mossberg shotguns and I’ve never broken a firing pin.
Should you store it with the action open/closed - or does it make any difference?

For the California demonstration, is that the correct direction to point your shotgun in?
excellent demo to cover the basics in a step by step method. Impressed.
Very Basic. Just what I needed. Thank you very much
Comprehensive knowledge, very helpful video, thank you!
Thank you. Very well explained.
BEAUTIFUL lesson, thank you!
if I just load the tube, will closing the action bring a round into the chamber?
He said after removing the shells that the gun is ready to store but isn't the firing pin/hammer left cocked?
very informative video. thank you!
Excellent video. Much appreciated. Thanks a lot for sharing with us.
Ok you Did good for first timers that wanted to know would you have the 590 M and how’s did it fill and thanks 🙏
Perfect tutorial thanks a bunch. Love my new 500.
