    I have the exact one. I thought about the 940 but the pumps just work, no gas issues. And the 590 A1 is robust . If you can't shoot them or stab them, you sure as hell beet them with it. It ranks right up there with my 1911 TRP 10 mm gov. Just reliable. Great video, nice detail. I learned by watching I moved my shoulder strap lug from my thread barrel cap to my bayonet lug. Thank you👍😁 didn't know I could do that or even an option on mine.

    I had a Remington 870 for awhile, i wanted to SBS it but ended up selling it to build out an AR lower. That’s probably the only gun I’ve ever sold that i regret and one of these days I’ll have to get another one.
    I don’t see an issue with the receiver being aluminum,5.56 runs at higher pressures and ARs are semi auto. That puts a lot more strain on the receiver than cycling with a pump I’d assume. ARs have been put through hell over the years and hold up great so idk i think I’d rather have aluminum than steel where possible.

    I think cost and wieght are the main reasons they have 590 and 590a1. Many who don't need metal trigger guard or heavy walled barrel will opt for lighter and less expensive 590.. plus 590 often has heatshield, vs heavy wall barrel, which can be removed for even lighter set up as many don't shoot enough to really heat the barrel up.

    • @peteregger7928

      I think their web site is screwed up! They show the 590 without the speed feed stock which would be lighter at 7.75lbs. They show the 590A1 at 7.0lbs with the speed feed which would be heavier. I think they have that backwards? Assuming that they listed the specs backwards .75 lbs is significant.

I also have the 590 like you have and I have pounded it like a howitzer and it is still going strong! It is a tad lighter than a 590a1 just like it. Yeah I love shotguns. The heavy barrel on the a1 was a requirement for ship board duty where hitting the gun against a metal bulkhead (wall) may deform it the barrel. Not an issue for a house made of 2x4 and sheet rock.

    Loctitie is definitely a blessing here for that extracter screw. My gunsmith, unfortunately, is months behind in projects. I see no problems with the receiver being aluminum. How many hundreds of thousands of rounds has an AR receiver stood up to higher pressures of a 5.56? Not to mention, the gases don't come back through the receiver in a pump.
    More food for thought is the fact a gunsmith has more metal in the barrel to work with if you want to add a choke system. To my knowledge, Only one of the 590a1's comes with a choke system.

    • @peteregger7928
      @peteregger7928  4 місяці тому

      I've never heard of a Mossberg receiver failure just because it was aluminum. As you're saying the steel barrel chamber handles the load! It may have happened to someone but I've never heard of the extractor screw coming out either. The rivet on the Remington could just as easily fail or become loose in my opinion.

I don't remember the 590A1 being marketed at that time but I'm sure it must have been? The 590A1was the result of the United States Navy wanting a heavier barrel for shipboard use but not sure when all that took place?
