6:41 Your remarks are dead accurate on Dirty Loops. I'm a more fusion-rooted fan so their Loopified album still brings me the best excitement and joy, but watching them evolve both in technique and in audience reaching efforts is something enjoyable as well. They have a better balance in their works in terms of where to insert those crazy harmonization and solos - previously in Loopified they clearly took a maximalistic approach, but in Phoenix they are much much more careful - and that's the major reason why it sounds so much more pop-ified.

    • @LowEndUniversity

Great points! I agree, they’ve really sharpened that element of their sound in terms of being efficient with how it’s used. Still waiting to hear if there is a full album announcement soon around this track.

Henrik plays the lead AND rhythm guitar the same time in the solos...that is just to mouch to take in...and doing splits with rubber legs, 4 hands and a vice grip as "detuner (longer extra bottom range on the low string) :D I laughed my ass off!! :D Epic Dirty loops...the DL logo on Aarons back in "Def Leppards" font and in pink tights,.more toms and on a acrylic set with double bass drums as in the eighties Oh and then the "boy band "moves from Jonah in some elton John shades on 4 key boards :D You just have to love them !!!

@@LowEndUniversity No. I don't know him. Speaking of all things bass ... Have you ever heard Renaud Garcia-Fons on his 5-string, custom-made contrabasse -- both pizzicato and arco? Check out "Oriental Bsss" and "Navigatore." Not only is he playing several tracks of contrabasse on most songs ... but he composed, orchestrated, arranged and produced both albums; both with a 20+ piece orchestra comprising of both Western and Eastern instruments. His later projects are leaner, trio, duo, but all are exceptional. I guarantee they'll be life-changing for you.

Feels like this type of song has been coming for a while.
Henrik has been experimenting with different tones with bass - see Follow the Light.
The style reminds me of some of their earlier stuff which was much closer to dance music than Phoenix or Turbo were.
I get the feeling this is the song where they just let Henrik go absolutely nuts!
Frankly, if this is the sound of their next album, I'm all for it!

    Thanks for this reaction.
I liked hearing some of your thoughts and analyses on bass technique and musical writing.
Interestingly, I found the mood lifted, got lighter with the regards at the end…. Each to their own :)
For me, this song took many times of listening, until the dust finally settled, mainly because the visuals are so confusing and crazy and over the top!
Henrik doing the splits, having ARON written on one of his fake hands (who edits all their videos, co-writes so much of their tunes and lyrics including some of Henrik’s bass lines)…
But listen to it with eyes closed, and so many other layers appear.
Can honestly not wait for the rest of this album-.
You’ve mentioned ‘Loopified’, and would’ve, without a doubt, also listened to their album ‘Phoenix’.
Henrik’s solo on “World on Fire” shows such a different side of him, right?
What’s there this dude can’t do? Not just shredding-wise, but also in purely musical and stylistic terms….!
Thanks again bro, this was great 👍

      @LowEndUniversity  10 місяців тому +3

Great read, thank you! I don’t think I checked out “Phoenix” - they’ve done so many one-off singles that I forget what’s a part of what, but I definitely listened to Loopified album-wise! Appreciate you watching!

Im sitting here wondering if this Mattisson bass guitarrs come from one Anders Mattison who used to play bass in a town called Örebro in Sweden for many years ago.
I sang in some different choirs back then and this guy sometimes played bass in the band.
As I remembering he was a really good bassist and he played a six stringed Yamaha bass. (Maybe my memory is letting me down..)
Maybe its the same guy. Would be great if someone knew if its the same guy who are behind these Mattison guitarrs ?

Might be a bit long for a song, but Russian Circles has some pretty wild bass. You could also check out any of the bands Brian Cook is also in, which ranges from Botch to Sumac and These Arms are Snakes. "309" by Russian Circles has some of my favorite Brian Cook bass. It's crunchier than driving a dump truck full of gravel down a road paved in cornflakes.
Another band that I think would be cool to see your take on is "El Ten Eleven". Their bassist plays a double neck bass/guitar too.

They actually do reharmonize their own songs, in a way. They said this in an interview. They started out with the reharmonized covers and when they decided to write their own songs they first wanted to write them in the crazy jazz fusion style directly but they couldn't do it. So instead they wrote very simple songs first and then loopified them. Which is probably a good idea anyway because a crazy complicated song works best if it still works when you strip it back down to basics.

this song is somethinge I 20 years ago would say sucked ... but today as an adult musician I understand the irony with the multiple hands, spandex and elton jonny flirt.. and this song EPIC!

Alex and Eddie Van Halen + Elton John. A cigarette in the head stock like Eddie Van Halen used to have.

This was actually amazing! Hindrik isn’t really my style bass player but there’s no doubt he’s a killer player but the song was great kinda reminds me of Bilmuri’s latest couple albums with the synth sounds and lyrics

As I understood, this is a sort of teaser song for their upcoming U.S. tour. I really loved the "Phoenix" stuff to bits and the "turbo" album too but... I hope that they don´t go in this direction further ;-)
For me, from the incredible looks -> PINK and the glamour style of the 80s, this looks ike a very humorous assault on Barbie´s World + this song is about a relationship coming to an end and one of them REALLY wanting to escape which is the total opposite to the epic bliss that this song is. It´s like a nuclear bomb... let´s see how this develops ;-)

Has anyone brought up Jean Baudin on this channel? I was casually listening to Nuclear Rabbit, as one does, and just thought about how that was one of the first bass players that actually blew my mind out live.

Henrik must have four hands because he is the guitarist like Eddie van Halen and the bassist in one person

To me it was a clear call out to Van Hagar. The tapping was a nod to Eddie and the drums def have that vibe.
