I used to think I was cool to play the bass line to James Bond or Dragnet. In Charles Berthoud's version of the Bond Theme he incorporates the strings and other instruments on the bass almost like The Call of Ktulu by Metallica. I'm no musician but I hope to be one someday if only for a few minutes a day while I'm playing with my bass. not bad for being the pro on fivver being hired a few times by davie, to now the talk of all bass players on youtube. been great watching him succeed and his channel grow.

Love this dudes playing. I watch everything he does......which is how I noticed something sneaky. You mentioned how hard it is switching so fast back to slapping? Notice a change in camera angle everytime he does it. Notice how fewer angle changes were in the 2nd video with no slapping. However still probable the best bass player I've ever heard for sure.
I would love to see a Primus video, my personal favourite songs include American Life, Wynona's Big Brown Beaver, Lee Van Cleef, Lacquer Head, Tommy The Cat and Jerry Was A Race Car Driver.
Victor Wooten mastered music on bass, Charles mastered the tonality. The sounds he get are heavenly.
You should watch him do Orion. He plays the guitar part and bass part at the same time.
I kid you not. Charles is the sole reason why I bought my Ibanez mikro bass two months ago. I literally just picked up the bass and wanted to learn it because of him
So glad a bass player reacted to him
Doing my part, Joanna! 🙏🏼
Charles, his mind and the bass are essentially one organ at this point.
Charlie is one of the best ever bass master and musician ever lived.
Indeed! Charles Berthoud is a Bass Monster!
Hey, Mark! Dude you should check out Ryan Martinie from Mudvayne. The guy has a very unique style. He also plays in Soften the Glare which is kind of Jazz/Metal fusion thing. "March of the Cephalopods" could be a great tune to analyze.
Without question, Charles is an absolute beast.
Wow, I only now realized you were in one of my favorite bands of all time Scale the Summit. The Migration was a masterpiece. Been watching your channel for awhile and I never put 2 and 2 together. I guess that explains the 6 string Warwick you busted out recently. Much respect bro. I absolutely adore your tone.
Aw, thank you so much for that. Means a lot to hear! I look forward to seeing you around, and thanks so much for stopping by. Really made my day. Cheers!
That, folks...is what practice will get you. Charles is a master of masters.
I love watching his videos and also hate watching them because he’s too good hahah!
LOL! Great point 😅
I bought a Gretsch short scale less than a year and a half ago. I have no formal training. I don't know chords. I can't read music. I can't play actual songs. I CAN go up and down the frets and make up "stuff". I love it! Sure, I'm learning bad habits and crashing all over the place but it's raw, fun and sounds super cool to me. I play every day with it. I can't play. But, I have tremendous fun and satisfaction playing it. Charles inspirers me. Davie does too. So many great musicians are out there. I'm no musician but I hope to be one someday if only for a few minutes a day while I'm playing with my bass. I got a couple of drum videos that I uploaded to UA-cam just to show a friend what exactly I was doing with an old junior drum kit. It's hard to watch.
not bad for being the pro on fivver being hired a few times by davie, to now the talk of all bass players on youtube. been great watching him succeed and his channel grow.
I understand him you hear everything in your head, and see it feel it
Agree, that 7:30min riff is the hardest one from Master of Puppets...
Charles Berthoud is absolutely relentless!
Watching a virtuoso in his prime, he's truly the Paganini of the bass.
you demonstrated pinch harmonics, there's also tap harmonics and fretted harmonics where you're using the 5th, 7th and 12th harmonics above a fretted note to get a clear harmonic note. using those you can get any harmonic note you want.
Even though no one can EVER admit it.... BASS WILL ALWAYS BE RELEVANT!
Every time I watch Charls do one of these super fast songs, it looks like it's playing on 2x speed, but I know it's not. It's nuts, they guy is litterally a bass machine!
Man can you imagine him and El estopia Superior Auto doing a collaboration. Oh my Lord that would be amazing.
I love watching and hearing Charles play, he makes his basses absolutely sing. Extremely versatile player too, he plays in so many styles and genres it's incredible. Would love to see you commentate some of Davie504's videos, even if he gets a bit memey with some of it, he's still a fantastic player. Also, asking again to see you check out Olivier Pinard from Cattle Decapitation and Ryan Martinie of Mudvayne and Soften the Glare. Keep up the great content, loving your analysis of our most beloved instrument.
Preferred Davie's earlier stuff. Agree that his newer stuff is a lot of things going on and not much playing.
I love the Jackson! Always been a big fan of alien/emerald burst colors.
Charles really is something else! 🤘😆
Also, regarding Primus, my personal favorites are The Devil Went Down to Georgia, and Wynona's Big Brown Beaver.
This guy is the Eddie Van Halen of bass. Hours and dedication.
Charles has a video called “this STEEL fretless bass sounds INSANE” and it’s my favorite of his videos. Maybe not as technically skillful as many of his others, but it’s just a great groove and so well put together. It’s an original as far as I know, would love to see you react to that one!! Great video man 🤠👍🏻
One of his Shorts is Sound of Silence on the fretless bass. I've watched it sooooo many times.
@@thejesse I liked that one too. There’s also another sick one called something like “when they say your bass has too many frets” that I’ve listened to probably over 25 times lol
Props to you too Low End Uni guy. I been enjoying your content. You got my algorithm number 💯😂
Thank you so much Julian!! Glad to have you here!
@@LowEndUniversity im a bass player metal head/nerd, whos musical influences come from the 2000-2010. This channel was made for my demographic.
Dude is a beast! Nice video!
Appreciate it!
Yeah Charles has some nice axes and he is definitely amazing.
I Agree C.Berthoud and DAVIE 504 are some of monster in bass, instrument after V.wooten.
I watched your primus vid. Wish I had seen this vid first cuz you forgot to put in Lacquer Head in that vid. Luckily he is so good you can do 2 vids on him!
