@@AndrewRooneyDrums Hey, while in Argentina, I recommend you listening to Me vuelve loco tu formo de ser with Los auténtico descarados. Very charming. But you might want to have the lyrics at hand; I mean a translation in case you don´t understand Spanish. It´s a very silly and simple love song; I love it!
Henrik (bass player) is bloody amazing, and is also a very humble and nice person! In my mind, he's one of the best bass players ever 🔥🔥🔥 Sweden = lots of musical talent! 😁
when the drumsolo thing started, i dont think i even blinked my eyes once, i was totally in shut down.. his skills and sound quality of the drums was from another dimension
I happen to partly know how became so good. His from the same province in Sweden as I am, Småland, in the south: Long winters and solitude. Makes wonders to instrumentalists! 😄
As a lame-ass, forever-rookie musician, it always makes me feel happy when I discover a great band before much more serious music heads. Check out the rest of Dirty Loops' songs, they're every bit as dynamic and talented as they seem from this one.
Jonah is a vocal beast! I've seen Dirty Loops live and he can do all of those runs he does live, but he is an excellent keyboard player! They are flawless live!❤
Love your reaction! Three boys played music together in highschool in Stockholm, went on to study music at the Royal Academy of Music (Jonah studied classical piano), they were discovered by Q in 2012, who sent them on a tour with David Foster to Asia, and has been managing and producing them ever since. Proud Swede here. And a new subscriber!
What I love about the drum solo is after it's over 9:38 Aron then swings an incredible feel as that bass keyboard note hits. I have no idea what he's doing to make so much space when he's still hitting a lot of drums. I would love to watch an analysis just of those 10 seconds. Then he delivers even more gargantuan short drum breaks. Then the song ends too soon, so you listen to it again, and again.
Saw them live at Berns here in Stockholm a few years back. They delivered live as well 👍 Also seen Henrik with his brother Eric on Fasching jazz club. These guys are as good as it gets! Totally blows me away every time...
So much chemistry! I have played semi-successfully with the same trio for the last 40 years. I'm a dinosaur, however, when I listen to this I totally get the synergy that they feel when it's only three people. Holy crap! Even though we're hearing studio recordings, you can't help but feel it. You might be surprised, Andrew, but most of their new stuff is very poppy and has a very '80s feel to it that is elevated by their insane musicianship. Love love love your show. I think a lot like you do when it comes to reacting to these videos. Keep up the good work
the singer covers Michael Jackson tunes for Quincy Jones, who promotes these guys like they deserve... Henrik seems be adored by almost every bass player, it's like the drummer gets last billing and he's got chops!
I think your summary is right on the spot, only wanted to stress the synergy effect. After a long hiatus, they emerged with a Quincy Jones produced EP that paints new standards for everyone. The Phoenix EP is a jewel
If you're interested in more chamber music (and by that I mean these three in a tiny-ass living room) with Aron and his phenomenal drumming, check out Dirty Loops' Coffee Break Is Over series. The sessions with just him and Henrik (the bassist) are just a delight watching them bounce off each other. Drum and Bass never sounded so good!
Wow Andrew what a fantastic pick. I've been watching the reaction videos since one of them showed up on Reddit, and I've found so many interesting new bands to listen to already. Have to say this one may be the most interesting and unexpected yet.
I stumbled on Dirty Loops about ten years ago when they used to do fusion-esque pop covers and I've loved them since. So glad they're back with some originals.
I know I commented a few months back when I first came across your channel and mentioned Aron Mellergård, it's unfortunate that he doesn't have a video that's focused on his drumming, but it's definitely an experience to watch him drum in these videos. I'm definitely a Rock/Metal fan, but the mix of musical styles in their music is quite enjoyable. Would definitely like to see these guys live if they ever came over to Canada; hope you took a look at their other couple songs that they have on UA-cam as well, absolutely brilliant.
The intro to the piano solo so reminds me of the vibe of Pat Metheney group with Lyle Mays and the percussion background of NanaVasconcelos - great stuff and of course Hendrik Lindner here on bass, EPIC
Yes, you can clearly hear Jonah is influenced by Metheny/Mays in many other songs too. Listen to their cover of "Forever young" or "Over the horizon" if you haven't heard them. Great songs and great piano and keyboard solos!
Glad to see you seemed to like them! Some of my favorite stuff to listen to these days. Chops for days and that funky/poppy hookiness... just fun stuff. Love them.
I've been waiting for you to do a reaction to this band. I've been listening to them for a few years and they are absolutely astonishing. Watching you react to it was like listening to it for the first time again.
Wow what an unexpected group! Everyone has their own look! This got me super excited to see and hear! What a trio... Maybe that's what the Rush reference was lol wow 😳
Wow! My new fave group! Drummer reminds me a bit of Baard Kolstad of Leprous. Constant movement, like they have an itch that can't be scratched. Each member is such a phenomenal player and integral part of the band, there would be absolutely no room for a fourth member.
I’ll be honest, saw a dirty loops video a while back and didn’t really give it much attention, but holy f**k! Very impressive and the sound is awesome 👏🏻 another brilliant pick. Loving this channel, makes me listen to stuff I otherwise wouldn’t 😎
This was the first video I really caught and watched a bunch from DL. Amazing work. And yes they do it all and better live actually. Another band like that; even better live. Aron is kind of the peak equivalent modern drummer sort of like how Stewart was basically "the" modern drummer of that moment. He rips. I mean that in the most dear of terms, referring to Chris Leighton, The Ripper (SRV). That snap on the snare isn't just poppy and crisp, it's SUPER tight. Just there. If you're the type that loves ghost notes you will find new ones each time you watch this for the first 100 times at least.
You're right about the Snarky puppy vibes this great band gives out. This is one of the bands that will make you get into this kind of music. Musical pleasure indeed. Great pick! Keep em coming!
Was waiting/hoping for some new music discovery in 2021 and here it is! Wow!! It's tempting to dive in a new rabbit hole, or get stuck in a Dirty Loop 😁 Love to watch your reaction videos between my working hours. Thank you very much!
As for the pronouciation of the name Mellergård... Heard of the magic duo Penn and Teller (or like, just the word teller 😁 )? Yeah, Teller but with an M. Gård? Gored. I would say Penn and Mellergored would be a "fair" English pronouciation of the name.

That was amazing... finding their train now! How about Larnell Lewis playing Coconuts? Such touch, finesse and dynamics!!! A true legend. Interestingly the third tom (black batter) is actually a 14x7 or 8 snare...blends great as a tom but then turns the snares on and it is a low punchy snare. Awesome, and never would've thought of that
