Shoutout to all of our members that saw this a week early. This wouldn’t be possible without our members joining our subscriptions to even afford to go out here to shoot this. THIS IS ALL BECAUSE OF YALL
I almost gave up mixing my own material for my next album. Between losing my mother in law and trying to keep my wife and kids happy through the holiday season; this video was therapy for me. As a man who keeps to himself when it comes to pain, I really needed this to inspire me to get back to what I love. This was life changing, great work fellas and God bless you all.
Realize you’re great and just being a husband and a father. Look at this as your gravy on top. Knowing that is delight, your family’s heart that you smile through the pain as you maintain your passion for what you love.
Praying fa you brudda. Your family got you. They wanna see you do what makes you happy doing what you take pride in. Keep going mane. The world needs you.
The world hears his art but remains unaware of the name behind it-Jaycen Joshua. We, as engineers, are among the privileged few who truly understand and appreciate the genius of this legendary engineer-one who generously shares his wisdom to inspire our greatness.
Bro at this point yall are damn near the Joe Rogan of the audio community, real unfiltered convos, and just a place for the true personalities of some of the well-respected individuals behind some of the world’s biggest pieces of art! Shit is historic FR!!! 🔥🔥🔥
Jaycen Joshua’s appearance on the Pod was pure gold. His insights into mixing and sonic storytelling were like a masterclass for producers and engineers alike, absolutely mind-blowing! Huge shoutout to the Audio Nerds crew for creating a platform where legends like Jaycen can drop such gems. Y’all are doing incredible work for the music production community, keep it up!
Damn bro, get your money how you can. I’ve been a huge fan of yours for years. But with everyone iview and noticed that they want to have paid members now on UA-cam and people already paying $25 for premium. It’s getting a little much. If I followed about 10 people. And they all want paid members, that’s $130 added onto the monthly $25 for UA-cam premium. Sheesh, and now there’s even Express Memberships like math hoffa’s channel.🤦🏽♂️ just saying, it makes people feel bad that they can’t even afford to Pay for extra support when they’re already supporting.
Pensado was one of the first mixers I watched and watching this episode was a full circle moment for me, no I feel re energized to continue learning more each day! thank you guys for starting this podcast it's really been a motivator fr!
Facts 💯 Mix is not only about fixing problems, its a creative process. The sound engineer is an artist. The song is the most important thing. Let the Ego at the door and start making art!
No. If you change the music of your customers, they will not come back to you. You have to modify it to what the customer wants, and that is a service that provides tech, not creation.
this is the perfect companion piece to jaycens streams and MixWiththeMasters episodes, it adds lots of context to the mixing moves and tricks he always does that we already know Crazy to see yall finally got him on, i remember devvon doing "how to compress vocals" tutorials with a macbook in a completely untreated room, you came far fr!
It's impossible to not like Jaycen, not only for his mixes but the fact that he wants to put all of us on game and create even more great engineers. Big shout out to yall for letting him nerd out!!
So much respect for Jaylen Joshua. The essence of what a hip hop mix should be in my opinion. He made so many memorable mixes dude, can't even count. I love how his mixes always were and still are so clean and translatable, but also very dirty in the best of ways!
I have watched this episode like three times now lol There is so much information that I’ll get new stuff each time. This man is truly a legend and it is so cool to see how far you guys have come. I only found the podcast a couple months ago and I think I have watched just about every episode at this point. This podcast is truly one of the best things for engineers and artists like myself who do everything themselves, so THANK YOU for all that you guys do. Hope y’all have a great holiday and a happy new year. Let’s all crush our goals 2025 🎊 🎉
I really appreciate what you're doing, helping us engineers with mixing & shit. I started with watching Devon tutorials like 6 years ago and haven't stopped mixing since then. And Jaycen Joshua is fucking legend so thank you for this podcast and everything else 🔥🔥🔥
Appreciate all that all y'all do. Devon, L J, Cory, Jason, Dave, cradle..... keep doing what you do. PS I'd be more than appreciative to recive the plugs. I stay tuned and plan to continue. Keep making great content. Let's work!!!!!
The Going Bad story was probably my favorite part of this interview! Dude not only cooked the 808 but also the melody too 🤣Absolute cojones of STEEL 😂😂
What an incredible episode!! I was telling my wife about how I was so proud and happy for you guys for acheiving what you have so far leading up to the Jaycen Joshua ep .Take what he says to you guys on and off screen and run with it! You will go far! Jaycen opened the gates, you have to keep them open. Vaya Con Dios !
First video of this length in a while to not press skip AT ALL. The whole video was so gold. Jaycen is a legend and a hero for so many of us for his skills and his attitude towards the game. Thanks for sharing your gems as always!!
man, really been losing the love for mixing and this helped spark the drive again. Had to do some research during the conversation but had enough knowledge to follow along. Thanks for putting out good quality conversations for the community 🔥
I am new here taking an audio to the podcast. I've been watching Devon for years incrementally learning new things. The feeling of taking in a podcast where the hosts feel as excited about learning as I am is awesome. Thank you for your time.
So I’m sitting here thinking of the coolest comment I could come up with, but honestly I can’t think over the sheer joy that your podcast brings me and other independent artists, engineers and producers. Keep doing y’all, dropping gems and spreading positivity.
You can’t fake that kind of enthusiasm Devvon had during this episode and I think the gentle reminder that that’s how a lot of us feel when viewing HMD content and livestreams. W episode and happy holidays everyone 🙌🙏
It’s great to watch you achieve and tick this one off! Dev, what Dave is to you, you are to us! YOU were the first introduction to mixing for some of us 👀‼️ Would love to see Dave on too! 🔥
I want to express my gratitude to everyone involved in this amazing interview. One of the most interesting aspects for me was how Devvon expressed his appreciation for having Jaycen as a mentor, inspiring him to delve deeper into the world of audio engineering. It was evident that Jaycen felt proud during this special moment because it felt genuine and not forced. The fact that Devvon has taken the time to study Jaycen's expertise speaks volumes. This is the kind of mentorship that every engineer should have. I recall my audio engineering instructor telling our entire class that he couldn’t share everything he knew because, if he did, he would be out of a job. I truly appreciate each of you for this video. It has motivated me to strive to reach your level. This is incredibly inspiring.
Damn, this was an incredible pod this week! I learned so much, and a lot of what y'all discussed put a lot of things into perspective for me. I'm not really a n engineer at all, more of just a producer, but I love hearing and learning all there is to know about mixing and training my ears better, and hearing that Jaycen also went through some times where he questioned his purpose is super relatable to me. I'm turning 34 next month, and I sometimes feel like I'm not where I need to be, and opportunities have long past me, but hearing and seeing y'all work hard every week is inspiring to say the least, and lights a fire in me to keep going. Both The God Particle and Orion are great too, as they really also help me optimize my templates better to only include things that are more essential for my workflow, so thanks to Jaycen and Cradle for their hard work.
Thanks for this interview, Jay and Dave P are my favorites of all time, because they teach. Will never forget Dave’s interviews in Mix Magazine years ago, really changed my mindset
I don't know anything about audio engineering, but I recently bought an mbox studio due to your review for my wife to start recording her father playing guitar and make a small album for her and her siblings. I don't know how to even use plugins, so they'll be waste on us. But I just wanted to let you all know that I've enjoyed these recent interviews especially the one with Ken. Enjoy the Holidays, have a Happy Thanksgiving!
HI MY NAME IS DANIEL THE LIVING WIERDO FAN! Im so grateful for this episode all of you are amazing thank you for inspiration and knowledge that you guys are spreading! Happy Thanksgiving. Love isn't something you get, Love is something you give!
As a producer I am learning so much about mixing from these type of open conversations and by watching Jaycen mix on mixwiththemasters and sharing all the knowledge, much ❤ to all of you!
Because mixing, mastering & music production are the very air we breathe; all our passions ignites when there are people like Jaycen Joshua, Dave Pensado & other mentors who understands the value in freely, unconditionally giving back through experience, knowledge & just are straight up good hearts. Its these people who make the world go round & great music makes people live the best moments of their lives forever. Much blessings always... 💯🌹🇹🇹💖🌍
This interview is next-level! You guys are absolutely crushing it. Having JJ on the show takes it to a whole new dimension - pure gold. Keep bringing the heat!
I just wanna congratulate LJ on the amount of will power he exercised every time Devvon stopped him from going off on a tangent. My boy was stressed lmaoo
This has to be one of the best Jason videos I've seen not because of the information, gems on every interview, but because I was able to laugh and enjoy the interview with you guys, definitely in my top three Jason interviews
Jaycen Joshua, an absolute living legend. Truly a real one for giving back to the community by passing on all the knowledge he has to all the aspiring mixing engineers like myself. GOATED
32:08 GIVE THEM A POINT!!!!! 😤💯THIS!!! 🎯🎯🎯 Can't wait til this becomes a more common standard, the industry sorely needs that... man this episode was perfect, grateful to the HMD/MyAudioNerds squad for making this ep happen. Pushing buttons & engineering are 2 different things... A great recording engineer often contributes to the song's writing, composition, and vocal performance, taking on the role of a “producer” rather than solely an audio engineer. For this reason, a 1% royalty on publishing rights is justified. A great mix/master engineer not only collaborates on the production with creative input on elements like the beat and vocal melodies but often defines the sonic fingerprint of the recording. In doing so, they also function as a “producer” beyond the technical role. Therefore, 1% royalties on master rights are deserved for each role-1% for mixing and 1% for mastering. So, 1-3% in total should be allocated to your engineer(s) if they deserve it.
That was an amazing interview. It didn't go into the weeds about specific mixing techniques BUT it covered Jaycen's story and how audio engineers should move today for the ultimate success! Be proud of the engagement because Jaycen gave you guys a non-forgettable compliment that you should cherish and use to propel you further in life! Peace
JJ has the best audio nuggets by far from all the interviews/tutorials I have seen. Thanks so much for doing this. i am a fan!! Keep em coming Dev and fam
Devvon, and Joshua sent my mixes to another level, and devvon you already listend too one of them. Because of orion and the god particle is the first things i put on, and i mix everything into it. thank you for your kindness and, hopefully one day Joshua can hear my mixes and be like wow , and the same too you guys! im blown away by you all!
Really informative episode. Upped my mixing game with this one. Best audio podcast out. Jaycen is the Goat. We need a Pensado episode soon. With Jay there also 💯🙏🏿🔥
I expected him to talk about his plugin for 60min straight but this was amazing .... I respect Jay on another level now. Great engineer but also a chill dude and mentor. Didn't even use the chance to show his plugins or sell anything. Not that needs to but still ... rare content on YT.
Generating noise based on the input signal to mask low level artifacts that are likely created by rendering down to 16bit, changing sample rate etc. So basically some background noise to make the "ugly" stuff less noticeable. Usually added when exporting the final master ... not on the mix itself. In this case he just used white noise or whatever noise to mask stuff in the mix and make everything sound fuller and more connected
Jay made engineering a vibe!! When there wasnt many who looked or talked like us in the space, Jay was there & the dynamics between him and Dave is the most unusual connection you wouldnt expect BUT THE MOST GENUINE we have ever seen in the industry in this space!!
This episode was already great when you announced Jaycen Joshua, but man....Im super inspired, he is what i hope to get back to and become. I began mixing very creatively but i had no technical skills and pure ego. Now im technical with no ego but i lost my creativity. He gave me the nudge i been searching for....the confidence to have fun again. Ofc im gonna try everything he said in this video lol but im gonna take off and note what does and doesnt work for me so i dont get lost in plugins but in the mix and the creativity! Appreciate you guys and the platform!

side bar, when Jaycen Joshua exhales before answering a question you know he about to drop some heat, lol its when I pay attention the most.
YEah right . . . . a producer who makes lame music for fried chicken hoarders.
Love this comment
