You recently did a video on the cost of living in Alaska, so I thought I would take the time to pull up my local Walmart and compare prices. I put your price first, then our price. I did not do all the items. What I should have done was added them all to my cart and then told it I wanted to get them at your store. If I did my math right, your costs averaged right about 19% more based on the items I selected below. Crescent Rolls $4.98/3.98 ½ Gallon whole milk $2.27/.89 155% more Great Value Twist String Mozzarella Cheese, 30 oz, 36 Count $9.13/7.94 Great Value Finely Shredded Fiesta Blend Cheese, 5 lb $16.79/13.97 20%more Pepperidge Farm Frozen Garlic Garlic Bread, 10 oz. Bag $2.84/2.33 Smucker's Hot Fudge Topping $1.98/1.98 Smucker's Magic Shell Chocolate Fudge $2.68/1.98 Del Monte® Fruit Naturals® Red Grapefruit cups $1.98/1.25 Bananas $.88lb/.54lb 93% Lean/7% Fat, Lean Ground Beef Tray, 2.25 Lbs. $12.86/11.48 Vlasic: Dill Spears Kosher Pickles, 32 Fl oz $4.12/2.98 Great Value Oven Ready Lasagna, 12 oz $1.58/1.68 Pace Mild and Medium Picante Sauce, 16 oz. $2.84/1.98 Old El Paso Taco Original Seasoning Mix, 1 oz Packet $.98/1.48 Quaker Instant Oatmeal, Flavor Variety Value Pack, 20 Packets $6.24/4.88 Red Bull $16.84/16.84 Juicy Juice 100% Juice, Fruit Punch, 6.75 Fl Oz, 32 Ct $14.98/11.12 Nabisco Ritz Original Crackers - Family Size $3.56/3.56 Heinz Sweet Relish 12.7 fl. oz. $3.12/2.28 Great Value Sun-Dried Raisins, 20 oz $4.64/3.68
Not really, but when something sparks an interest, I run with it. Sure does beat just staring at the screen watching videos, kind of makes them interactive.
I can't tell you how much I enjoy your videos. It is so amazing and exciting to see how families live so far up north. Thanks for letting this Texan have a peek into life in Alaska. So awesome. God bless you and your family. ❤️
Groceries in North Carolina are definitely cheaper. Some items were similar in price but most of your items were way more expensive. The price of y’all pay for toilet paper is crazy. But we definitely pay taxes on everything. Thanks for sharing!!!
My son was stationed in Fairbanks when he was in the Army, his girlfriend lived in Anchorage. I flew to stay with her in 2007, I was amazed at the beauty of Alaska. I remember us going to get groceries at the Walmart in Anchorage, it was crazy how much higher the items were there than in Virginia. We went out to eat once and the bill was double compared to where I lived at the time.
Omg your Walmart is so much cheaper compared to where I live at, I live here in the central valley in California and that's not bad for Walmart in Alaska 👌👌👌👌
I worked on this Walmart when built in 2004! Steel framing at -45 below. The General was Ken Brady Construction, we were a sub contractor BEK of Alaska. I will never forget. I did see -54 but would not dare work outside. Luv Squarebanks!
Wow, I'm shocked by how similar the prices are to Northeastern Ohio! Crazy! Thank you so much for uploading this! And I agree about being able to get just about anything from Walmart. Ours' has an eye doctor! 😂🤣
I just went grocery shopping today at my Walmart, about 20 minutes away and our prices are pretty much exactly the same. Since I know you like to buy in bulk, if you go to the taco shell section they have a big plastic jug/jar (24oz) of taco seasoning for about $9 or a smaller 4.3 oz one for like $2. Cheaper than buying the seasoning packets. I do the same thing you do. Bulk pantry items and then I go once every two weeks for meat, eggs, milk, and things we're low on and then once a week for produce. Now that it's summer time I've been going to more farmer's markets.
I wish our Walmart was as clean and nice as yours! But oh my word! Holy moly expensive! I am in shock.. my mouth is wide open. Wow.. oh wow.. too bad Alaska doesn't have an Aldi.
I've been to that Wal-Mart! Loved our trip to Fairbanks, we were lucky enough to see the Northern Lights every night. Ready for our Alaskan cruise next year.
I understand what your coming from. Walmart is probably cheaper. Most of my inlaw’s friends have a garden. They would can their food. Try to get ready for the winter. I was never there to see fall and winter. We were only there for summer. We loved it! We do miss it!
Looks just like my WALMART here in Littleton, Colorado. Some prices not to different than what I pay when things are in or out of season. Strawberries in Littleton were $4.98/pound this weekend. Good job-I love WALMART because you can get everything there. Fun video-thanks for sharing😊💜❤️
Just watching you shop, I guessed it would probably be between $3OO-$400. My only concern was all that salad mix, etc under all those cans and jars.... LOL
Love your walmart haul and your kind explanation about having that bit more pre-packaged food than usual. Still you managed to keep to a very admirable budget. Also excited to know that Costco will be opening shop soon!
Your going to love COSTCO when it comes... we have it here in Australia and we absolutely love it. Yummy muffins and chicken bake just two of many items my kids and myself love.
I love this series. Seeing the types of groceries you can get and prices and stuff is so interesting when you’re from Another country! The comments are great too! The idea of being able to buy guns in a department store is sooooo foreign to me lol!! Your packets are always so much bigger than here, and the amount of convenience/frozen foods amaze me!! So much more than here. A bit jealous lol
Please do more grocery shopping hauls! Like when things are depleted and you need to do a major stock up. For some reason, I think hauls are interesting. I don't know why. 😂 It can be at Costco, Walmart, Fred Meyer or all three! 😁 Enjoy all your vlogs! 👍🏻
I live in Northern California (lots of mountains and tough rides) and we have the only Walmart for a while. You have to go 4 hours south or 3 hours east or 2 hours north to get to the closest other one. Your prices aren’t far off from ours!
It was nice to see the prices there at Wal-mart. My husband and I are planning to move to Alaska here real soon. And you helped me see that the prices are not that bad at all. Now to see about houses and lots for sale.
First time watching your videos, that was a lot of fun going shopping with you. Good luck with your home build. I will be checking out your other videos. Thank you.
Grew up in a small town and really glad there wasn’t a Walmart for at least 100 miles. It might be convenient to get everything at one place, but then you miss out on the community of having local small businesses. It was really cool going to school as the son of the farmer and then having classmates whose parents ran the furniture shop, the clothing store, the butcher, etc
Thanks for the video my sister lived in Juneau there’s only Safeway or Costco and Costco doesn’t have a hot section like the $4.99 roast chicken here. At Safeway the roast chicken was like $8.00 in Juneau. Also many people get roommates coz of the cost of rent is so high and they have seasonal workers who take rooms as well. I saw you got heavy cream in this haul and hot fudge sauce. Here’s a way to possibly save some dimes. Idk how much chocolate chips are there but get chocolate chips or chop up some chocolate put into a microwave save bowl cover to top with heavy cream microwave for 1 min check it by stirring it until smooth put back into microwave for 15 second interval to melt chocolate if needed. 1 minuet should be enough time and you just got to keep stirring till it’s incorporated and Wah-La you just made home made hot fudge or ganache to top cakes with. You can also add a tablespoon of kayro syrup to the chocolate and cream if you want. It might be less money to make your own Hot fudge than buy ready made. Plus you know it just 2 ingredients and nothing extra added. Well.. enjoyed you video much keep um coming.. thank you. Hope you try the homemade hot fudge sauce ganache it’s really good ...store unused in a mason jar in the fridge. You can even make it in the mason jar..
How did I just now find your channel? We used to live in North Pole. We still own our home go there and visit at least once a year. I so miss that place. Thanks for bringing back such good memories
Groceries in Australia are more expensive! Recently I was paying $4 for one cucumber! We are a family of 5 (three kids under 5) and we spend $1200-1300 a month on groceries. Plus I have to drive 90mins to the grocery store which is about $40 in fuel per trip to town!
Some things are similarly priced to my Wal-Mart in Massachusetts. Others were more, but I think it would even out. Will have to compare when I do my Wal-Mart trip in 2 weeks
We used to have the lights in our freezer section that would turn on as you walk towards them and as you walked away they all turned off. I see that yours still has those. I wonder if it was like a cost issue. I would think it would be more cost effective to keep the lights off when not in use, or maybe it cost more to turn them on and off. I don't know.
Hello, I’m new to your channel and I love your videos. You’re family is so loving, entertaining and fun! I really love how you all include God in everything you do, and I will keep you all in my prayers in the completion of your forever home. 😊
Good job with the way you placed the text over everything. It's a good vid. I'm hoping for future shopping vids where you say it out loud. I tend to multitask and listen while I work. Thank you for the summary at end.
Prices for some things are much cheaper than in NZ, others are comparable. In NZ there is a 15% tax on goods and services, so that includes food. I completely get where you are coming from with being busy and knowing you're just not going to have as much time to cook for the next few weeks and the convenience foods. Continued prayers for everything coming together in the final stretch of your new home.
I got to hand it to Wal-Mart, that is pretty affordable. I remember seeing a small bag of Doritos going for $8 in the late 90s (Dutch Harbor). Laundry soup was very expensive too.
I'm in North Carolina with a family of 4. I'd say some items were comparable in price, some were slightly higher and some were significantly higher (the toilet paper really stands out in my mind and the meats). For what you bought and for how long you predicted it would last that really wasn't bad for a family of 5.
I noticed a lot of the items you were getting are about .50 up to $2.50 increase in price than from what my Walmart prices are. I live in Northeast Florida.
Mehgan_ upsidedown most of those prices are about accurate for me but of course I live in outrageous California.. that shredded cheese was insanely high and the toilet paper..
I'm in NE Florida too. Hardly shop at Walmart. I'm cheap and shop Rowe's or Save A Lot...I want to check out Aldi's soon though. We had Aldi's when I married and moved to England. We had ASDA/Walmart there in London. Of course our Walmarts are nicer. But in the UK...we had more cashiers! Lol Ha!
Some items were much higher than in Southern California but some were pretty close in price. We don’t have sales tax on food from grocery stores here either. Love it.
Alaska maybe more....I love AK and wont and dont like the heat in the East...So much more freedom in AK then the states...And the beauty of AK...It cant be beat...
Dave, i agree with you about the beauty and the freedoms. unfortunately, after living in Alaska for 55 years, i had to move. now in Tennessee. much cheaper and easier to live on a retirement income. but i will miss 4wheeling and snowmachine riding at the MacLaren river lodge on the Denali Hyway. and i will miss moose roasts and halibut chunks.
i see that comment a lot. Please remember than CAD is cheaper than USD, though have living in Vancouver, BC, I agree that it's way more expensive to live in Canada than in US. But you guys get universal health care, better education and a safer country.
Our Walmart prices are lower in Tennessee. Thanks for sharing!! We have thought about moving to Alaska so this helps see the big picture of whether we could make it there financially.
I just saw ur channel. I used to live in Fort Greely. Husband was stationed there for 3 years. Loved North Pole. Used to go to down to Fairbanks. Used to go to the next town over from Fort Greely called Delta junction. Miss Alaska.
Cost of living is also substantially more expensive. So yes getting paid more here in some fields of work. But it all adds up, and it adds up quick. Especially being a partially ran tourist state and huge attraction. Prices in different times of the year sky rocket for absolutely everything and can change in a matter of days drastically
I live in Valdez and we only have a Safeway and could easily spend over $200 per week for just my husband and myself. Even what feels like “just picking up a few things” can turn into $100 easily. We drive the 300 miles to anchorage to stock up our pantry like you were talking about which saves a lot on weekly grocery shopping. And we buy so much through amazon prime as well. Watching this made me wish that we had a Walmart.
It's crazy how the prices can be so much higher! The tortilla wraps really surprised me as to how expensive they were. Great video :D came over from insta!
I went thru the same ordeal as you... I lived in the Sacramento mountains of NewMexico.. Closest store one way was 75 miles down thru the mountains to Alomogorgdo , NM. It too was a Wal-Mart.. Everyone from around the mtn regions , including 2 Mescalero Apache reservations a 2 military based would go to that store and all would come with multiple coolers to bring the groceries home.. Once a week was not an option you planned all to be done in town that day. Yup , difficult , but like you and your community... Wal-Mart was our 1 stop shop for all.. Thanks for sharing..
Its about average from California I saw a few cheese and bread items a little higher but thats all comparable pending size/quantity i'm near the central valley aka ag central and i've had serious bad luck with walmart produce so i end up going to safeway (yes you pay more. But better quality in my mind)
Your Walmart looks so fancy and nice with literally everything you would ever need compared to Walmart’s in the small towns of Tennessee....you also pay more for products.
Just found your channel and this so cool! I lived in North Pole, AK as a baby/toddler (over 30 years ago). I was born in Fairbanks at Basset Army hospital. My dad was in the Air Force at the time. So neat to see these videos - will be sharing with my family 😊
I priced out the items you have in the video to our local Walmart in Mid-Michigan and we had 2 items that were higher priced; Great Value oven ready noodles $1.68, Sparkle 8 ct towels $7.97. Two items were the same price; Silk Almond Milk 1/2 gallon $2.98 and Smuckers Hot Fudge $1.98. Everything else was higher on your list. The most increase in cost is the fresh fruit and veggies. A lot of the name brand items weren't too much higher. Side note: we homeschool also! Two teenage boys at this point in our homeschooling adventure! God Bless!
You have no sale tax but here in GA we have sales tax some prices are the same and high next time I complain about toilet paper I'm going to think about how it is there
I love your videos. I am blessed to live in Kansas. I could get all this for probably $100. I'm constantly finding amazing deals here in my town. It's almost as though my local stores are like, "Please. Take this stuff out of my damned store! I can't bear (growl bear style) to look at it anymore!). Im not complaining though. I once found 1/2 gallon jugs of milk for 5 cents each. Those went into the freezer. Another time I found ground bison 99 cents each. Those went into the freezer. Plus we hunt, fish, forage, and raise our own rabbits and chickens right in town. Huge garden every year. Coupons... So many things. I love it!!!
$16.94 for toiled paper, that is shocking it works out to £13.30 in England. I shop at Asda which is Walmart and I pay £8 for 24 rolls of their branded paper and that’s not Evan the great value range.
your talking about the layers? well the cheap business toilet paper which you can find everywhere got 1 or 2 layers, the usual commercial tp got minimum 3 layers until 4 layers for the expensive one, they are soft, good smelling and they have different pictures on em - 12 rolls 4 euro
So funny that no matter where you are in the world a Walmart looks like you are home.
Rebecca Breen No Walmart here in Croatia! 😂🙁
Meg // You don’t know what you’re missing! Lol
The gun section looked a lot bigger than here in Kentucky where I’m from lol
Rebecca Breen Lol! So true!😂
LindsayCordova I’m in Louisville. Hai
Here at our local Walmart you can get your oil changed, your taxes done a colonoscopy and your hair did.
Lol 😂😅💀💀
😂😂😂😂
That made me laugh 😂
Mine too! You can also get your glasses, life insurance, and open a bank account here.
Yupp sho can
Your grocery prices are pretty much on par with us! And we have everything as well, minus the guns, cause, Canada... haha. Thanks for sharing!
Our Wild Life but ours would be in canadian currency ...unless u did the conversion?
I’m in Southern Manitoba. Looks about the same prices, but ours would be even more expensive due to the conversion right now.
I'm in halifax..most of those prices are still cheaper than here, conversion included lol
I'm in Kitchener, yeah cheaper with conversion lol Canada is expensive
We have guns at every Walmart I've ever been in in the lower 48.

Raisins were cheaper lololol
I live in Florida and those prices were outrageous to me. But then again I'm a bargain shopper. So interesting to see this!

Also from C. NC. Yup, tp was really high as were some of the other products.
Yeah Alaska is EXPENSIVE but...... we get paid to live here sooo
Jennifer Pressley yes I’m in Maryland and I nearly died looking at those prices and Walmart is the cheapest around!
Taxes here in NC.. lord haha
Not in North Carolina by choice I wanna go back to my small town USA in Tennessee

$16 for a pack of Walmart brand toilet paper? Geez Louise!!!! Highway robbery. 😂
those were mega rolls equaling 72 regular rolls
The cost to ship up there is ridiculous. Fuel is expensive
Yeah...first item I thought nope.
That is how they get ya!!! The toilet paper...the toilet paper!
Did you not see the quantity? That's a steal.

I live in Rockford Illinois and I’ve got most of the items you got and there are Way cheaper where I live !
Good old Wally world...cant beat it they have EVERYTHING
I should do one of these videos for northern Idaho. We only have one tiny grocery store and it’s extremely expensive. You guys have it made up there!
How did I just now find your channel? We used to live in North Pole. We still own our home go there and visit at least once a year. I so miss that place. Thanks for bringing back such good memories
I’ve been to North Pole. I used to live in Anchorage. I miss it so much
The red bull scene was too funny!!
Wow this is such a good video the cheapest store in the most expensive state lol 😅
It’d be nice to see a video on what your favorite brands of winter coats/outerwear you love for you and your family living in such a cold climate!
I fainted at the total. Unbelievably high prices.
We lived in AK for 5 years. We used to drive 4 hours from Homer/Anchor Point just to go to Walmart! I know the feeling.
Why aren’t you using coupons? Maybe after you settle in your new home!

Alaska needs a Family Dollar because Wal-Mart toilet paper is to high but.... I Love Wal-Mart😁😁
I’m impressed that they have fabric!!! We don’t have that in TN. Prices are pretty reasonable!
You need an Aldis!!
Good job with the way you placed the text over everything. It's a good vid.

New Zealand
+Stacey Cox. Where in NZ are you? We are in Timaru
Is the 15% tax in place of or in addition to an income tax?
@ In addition to an income tax that ranges from about 15% to 40% depending on your income,
I got to hand it to Wal-Mart, that is pretty affordable. I remember seeing a small bag of Doritos going for $8 in the late 90s (Dutch Harbor). Laundry soup was very expensive too.
Almost the same pricing as Hawaii. It’s so expensive too
I live in NH, our walmart is about 40 min from my house. We spend about 150 a week for a faminly of 4. Are milk is 2.59 for 0ne gallon.
After all that work, I would call in take out also. Smart girl. 👍
Love your channel! I don’t miss Fairbanks / North Poles cold, but I miss lots of other things there!
a lot of prices are similar to my area of Ontario, Canada.
binkygirl3107 and it’s in USD, so it’s even cheaper!!!!!
I would say this is cheaper than Ontario Canada.
binkygirl3107 I live in Alberta and was thinking the same!
With the exception of the apples? Everything in her cart was cheaper than here in Metro Vancouver.
If I bought this is regina sask I'd be pushing 500. Beef for that size here is almost 30 dollars. Chicken is 30 dollars
I love these kinds of videos. I'm so interested in Alaska💗
those prices are significantly high ,Great value chips in Houston just a dollar something so is PB iceberg fruit cups
Lol Ha!
@@anitajinfla9762 Hello neighbor! Yes I recommend going to Aldi's . I really enjoy going there and they have really good prices on alot of items!
I'm in Florida also
I live in south east Florida and I noticed about the same like the bananas here are about 40 cents a pound
I love vlogs like this ❤️❤️ the toilet roll amazed me so expensive
All Walmarts have everything
My younger sister teaches at NP High School and is SO happy the Costco is coming up there! :) Good vlog, thanks for sharing it!
In Canada the only guns we have in Walmart is nurf guns haha 😆
Love your personality. You mention your pantry. Are you going to do a tour of how you set up your pantry?
Go to Barrow, Alaska to grocery shopping.
I am so curious as to how you remember everything you need. You seem so relaxed when your shopping. I'm jealous.
Everything is roughly the same price if not cheaper than here in Canada.
i see that comment a lot. Please remember than CAD is cheaper than USD, though have living in Vancouver, BC, I agree that it's way more expensive to live in Canada than in US. But you guys get universal health care, better education and a safer country.
Our Walmart prices are lower in Tennessee. Thanks for sharing!! We have thought about moving to Alaska so this helps see the big picture of whether we could make it there financially.
does your store take coupons? maybe using coupons can help lower your total amount .
I just saw ur channel. I used to live in Fort Greely. Husband was stationed there for 3 years. Loved North Pole. Used to go to down to Fairbanks. Used to go to the next town over from Fort Greely called Delta junction. Miss Alaska.
All together maybe 125-150 dollars more than what you would spend in Texas. Not bad for Alaska considering you get paid more there
Jacob Torres it would be like 100 dollars in Arizona
Cost of living is also substantially more expensive. So yes getting paid more here in some fields of work. But it all adds up, and it adds up quick. Especially being a partially ran tourist state and huge attraction. Prices in different times of the year sky rocket for absolutely everything and can change in a matter of days drastically
That haul would have been about 250 in my area of texas.
@@sifuentescervantes896 HEB is a Texas only store
@@marikiemarie7622 yes I do know that. I do live in Texas. It was more of a joke.
I live in NY and that seems around the same price lol. I also live about 20 minutes from our Wal Mart.
We just got home from our Alaska vacation. We did buy groceries at the Walmart in Anchorage, and yes very eye opening compared to our Michigan prices
Love your town, your videos, but the loud, continuous music distracts me so much. Thank you for sharing. You are a good video hostess.
The dairy products are really high there. A gallon of milk here in Texas is generally around 1.49 for store brand.
Its about average from California
I saw a few cheese and bread items a little higher but thats all comparable pending size/quantity i'm near the central valley aka ag central and i've had serious bad luck with walmart produce so i end up going to safeway (yes you pay more. But better quality in my mind)
Jo Lane That's what I said comparable prices to California but the cheese was higher than what I pay here in Ca.
Same in DC!
God Bless!
*love* these videos. please make *more* !
Wow!! I'm here in SC and most of our stuff is much cheaper. The tp was really expensive compared to here. I get a gallon of milk for $1.00!
Kezza H in Slovenia you get 24 rolls for 2-3€ 😦
I live in NE FL too.
When married to a Brit, I lived in London.
We shopped ASDA/Walmart too...and Tescos.. Where every little helps! Lol
in germany you get 24 rolls for about 5-8 Euro
How is the quality of tp in Europe compared to America? For example, I would definitely pay more for two-ply than just one.
your talking about the layers? well the cheap business toilet paper which you can find everywhere got 1 or 2 layers, the usual commercial tp got minimum 3 layers until 4 layers for the expensive one, they are soft, good smelling and they have different pictures on em - 12 rolls 4 euro
What you trying to feed...5 lumber jacks?
