We are a 75 yr old senior and a 60 disabled. I got food storage. I checked what we got. And I think we will be safe. I hope electricity won't got up as Ut s company changed. We will be staying home . Last Dr appt will be Oct 18th. For us.
Fareway Grocery Store: Has a serviced Meat Department, has cashiers, baggers and people to take things to your car and load the groceries in the trunk.
I make a giant pot of vegetable beef soup for less than $15 that will feed two people for a week. I divide it up and freeze in 2 person portions. Cooking from scratch can be very economical if one takes the time to do it.
@@SouthernCountryLiving Of course I live in New England. We have a generator if power goes out to keep fridge going, and worse comes to worse, we stick it on the screen porch because it's freezing cold. 🙂
Me too. A chicken from Costco that I debone for soup, a ton of fresh veggies, chicken stock in a box, and whatever I have in the pantry for the filler...ramen noodles, couscous, rice, etc. I thicken it a little with mashed potato flakes to make it stretch further and use this same recipe no matter the size of the pot. The bigger it is, the more I can freeze.
This is so wholesome. Two people taking on life together and they’re so kind and patient with each other. I hope I find this level of peace and teamwork someday ♥️
I'm not a senior but I wanted to let you know I appreciate videos like these. I'm a single mom and try to save money where I can. You make an adorable couple
I just found this! Subscribed! Reminds me of my childhood.....beans, rice, grits, salmon patties. Yummy! And love the corned beef as well. I just have trouble using those little keys to open the can.
@@sueb5645That’s called survival food. You want food that will last long term in case of emergencies. In emergency situations you’re usually not getting the normal amounts of calories and things that you would get in a normal situation. Trust me, in emergency situations when you can’t buy groceries at the store like usual…you are thankful for any kind of food and you don’t care about things like organic, etc
I always keep extra canned milk and self rising flour as hubby loves his gravy & biscuits. Also cook with canned milk. Spaghetti & sauce on hand for grandkids when over as they love it. Love idea of beef patties. Add me to your channel!! Thanks for your helpful information
@@jchiappardi891 I’m very sorry for your loss. It’s dreadfully painful to lose your spouse, even more so if you truly loved each other. Cherish your memories and hold them close to your heart. I’m sending you a hug to help hold you up today and all days 🫂
My mom’s boy-friend (Hes been alone for 5 years now since she died) just passed from heart issues. He was sooo kind and thoughtful! Now they’re together forever!!
Well if there's a crisis in the world you most likely are not going to have any utilities so you're not going to be able to cook any of the food either
There are camp stoves, butane burners, grills, and plain old campfires (using cast iron pots and pans). And canned foods, commercially and home canned are cooked. They may taste better hot, but, if properly processed, are safe to eat.@victoriapalmer5146
You can store a years worth of food under a single bed for one person. The back of the closet can hold lots of cans. Buy a small end table or a box type night stand from the thrift store to put food in. Even a thrift store bookcase can hold food. Under the sofa.... If you think about it, you can find a space. Thanks for showing these videos and making people aware.
I have a couple of good sturdy boxes with lids and they are full and stacked with a pretty cloth over it. My cat likes to sit on top 😂 just looks like a piece of furniture
Hi from London, Ontario, Canada. I am a 62 year old lady who lives alone. I appreciate your videos. I was prepping while working full time. I had a mental breakdown in March and have been on disability since then. I have been eating the preps to help save money. You never know what might happen to your income or your health, so it's good to prepare.
I'm 56 and a breast cancer survivor with other chronic health issues, so I don't have a lot of energy either. But one thing I was still able to do the last couple months, was canning. I took my time and canned as much as I could. I hate winter, and hate going out in the winter. I like to hibernate like the bears! Ha! ha! You're a sweet couple, God bless.
I cook scratch meals all the time because the prices of groceries are so high and eating out forget it. The usual restaurant has put their luncheon meals at 20 dollars so way too high. Looking for ways to save money whatever is on sale helps.
So sorry y'all did all the work to get 212.00 of food and then had to do self check out too. Especially since there was no electric cart for Marie. You All look great for your ages. I thought early 60s. Praying for health and long life.❤
I saw a video recently to freeze your beans for 72 hours in order to kill any potential parasites or larva that could be in the beans. I never knew this and I had lots of beans, like you in the pantry and put them all in the freezer; as well as, my rice. I wouldn’t want one problem to destroy my whole stock. Thank you for sharing. I’m almost a senior and am on a budget, like many Americans and feel God led me to your channel. ❤🙏🏻
I do this with many things...beans, rice, flour. I store extra flour in my freezer to keep it as fresh as possible until I need it. But one thing I like to point out...I remove beans and rice from the freezer after three days and store them in Mason jars for long term. Always remember to spread them out on cookie sheets and let them dry before putting them in your storage container. Otherwise you risk them becoming moldy because they were damp when you put them away. Don't ask me how I learned this important piece of information...I'll just say it cost me a few $$$ to replace things, including my storage containers 😂
In all the years that we've been prepping we only had one time that we lost 2 lbs of beans because of insects. There was 8 bags in the container so I went ahead and discarded all 8 of them for safety.
I do that too. Any pasta , rice or beans that has been stored awhile I stick in the freezer for a day or two. I hate finding any bugs ( pantry moths) in my hard earned stock up . Everything possible gets put in air tight containers. Never used to have this problem but this world is changing fast. Thank you both, I loved watching you shop together.
Thank you for your video! Don't forget Jesus loves you and will take care of you! He is faithful!!! I have experienced His faithfulness over and over again!!♥️🙋🐑 Canada
Someone did a study on the same groceries they bought during the pandemic compared to now ( they pulled up their online reciept) and the price was 23% higher now and like he said no one citizen has gotten a 23% increase in pay to cover the difference, and thats just groceries
Those of us around the age of Marie and Calvin have lived through higher inflation, tough financial times, gas shortages, changes that challenge us, and we're still here. We all know prices are higher than they were and given that we dealt with a global pandemic, stalled supply chain, shortages and higher prices when the pandemic started, most of us are not surprised. Fortunately, inflation has come back down and that's a good thing. In the last 3.5 years we've made a huge turnaround which I'm thankful for! One of the things I appreciated in this video is they didn't complain about prices. I don't either because it doesn't change prices. I shop with a list, like they do, and once in awhile pick up something that should have been on the list but wasn't, like them. They got a lot of good food for $211.96 (I think it was .96 but could have been different).
You know some canned foods actually taste different now verses pre-pandemic. Watered down and tasteless. ie: Jarred or Canned tomato sauces for example.
Hey..we just moved to Tennessee..did you know that the state of Tennessee doesn't change you any food taxes between the August to October..to give family a break for back to school
Thank you for a wonderful video! I'm 68 and a shut in here in SW MISSOURI, I have bought my food online for about 5 years now I am on SS also, I have rescued 4 dogs and 4 puppies and 4 cats over the years, liveing here on my homestead, they are a blessing as company for me!!! Before I met my now husband, he stocked up on soup when it was in sale. Well, theres no way we could use it all, so unfortunately most of it expired. We can’t donate it now so it all goes in the trash.😢
I live in Ireland, and just found this channel tonight, i love comparing American food to irish food, most of it is the same, but some i would never had heard of,we have a pantry at home,we got it started during the pandemic, and still kept it going, its very handy to have, please make sure to make more videos, thank you❤❤❤❤
I tell you what! Your video has been an absolute delight! I'm 47 disabled and I also live on social security & I stay with my mother who is 80 years old. We have enjoyed your video so much & are looking forward to watching more of them. We are also from Georgia. We are near the S.C. line near Lake Hartwell. We do our shopping at Walmart also & we always try to go at 6am when they 1st open. The store is so quiet & I have no trouble finding an electric cart to ride in. If we go past 8am I can never find one and I have waited 30 min or more for one to turn up. I know 6am is early but I enjoy the quietness & I get fresh stocked food. 😊 God bless everyone & Hope everyone is okay after this horrific hurricane Helene.
We live in Florida and since 2004 when we had four hurricanes in six weeks, we started prepping. We are fortunate to have a spare room that has a large wardrobe in it that is our prepping pantry. I typically shop at Publix and buy the buy one/get one free items every week. The free items go into the wardrobe. We have been able to not only feed us during storms, but others that have come to stay with us for their safety. It becomes a party at our house. Thank for you sharing what you picked up.
We r in our 80s and we live here in Michigan. And we get snowed in a lot .So we r filling our pantry up ow .Also don't want to go out when flu season is on .
Just a tip...insta cart is awesome. If you go online to your favorite store website. Clip those digital coupons too. You can schedule delivery next day for like 6.95. It's so helpful. My food bill has been around 120.00 a week for 3 adults. It's saved me money because if I go in the store I SEE MORE 😂😂😂 I SPEND MORE
I do believe in prepping. My dad was a prepper before we called it that. Back in the 60’s we had a walk-in pantry which stayed stocked. Every can had to be like a standing soldier face forward etc….lol…My mom did the cooking but daddy did the stocking. I remember on Friday’s they went to the neighborhood A&P in Chicago, and came home with regular groceries and also cases of canned goods. He replaced them as needed. I can remember it like it was yesterday. Daddy was originally from outside Nashville in Shelbyville……..Loved the video…Blessings
I got married in 1974 we had a basement full of food and non-food items I still call it stocking up not prepping. My daughters are 42 and 47 and they occasionally are asked by friends if I still stock up like I did back then the answer is no back then my now ex of 23 years worked at a recycling plant and I could get all the coupons I wanted. A neighbor my sister-in-law and I would go the next town over and order cases of laundry soap and other cleaning supplies cereals other food items and go back the next week( I never cleared off shelves this way ) the manager knew we were doubling coupons and only paying tax on most items. I shared with neighbors and family. Now I scour the markdown clearance aisles for meat and other items including pet food.
@@vickiealexander2910 I got married in the early 70’s my best friend and I would go to the A&P every week our grocery bill would be around $19 dollars, boy have times changed I miss the A&P, I’m from the south also!🙂
This was a wonderful, healthy haul. I learned to make a condiment in Puerto Rico called Sofrito. In the blender add 1 bell pepper, one onion, 1 bunch of cilantro and 3 pieces of garlic. Blend and keep in the refrigerator or freeze it in ice cube trays for when needed. It is awesome in beans, soups and meats over rice. It is great in spagetti❤
@@SouthernCountryLiving I forgot to mention just add a couple table spoons to taste. That’s why I use ice cube trays. Sorry if I am bothering I just thought for a variety of tastes❤️
@@lynnchristensen5510it's a good thought. A few ingredients are missing including some corn oil when you blend it, but if using immediately it'll be alright. 😊

I haven’t been inside of a grocery store in over 10+ years. I’m not able to walk over 10-15 feet due to a condition I was born with and an unsuccessfully botched spinal cord surgery. With that being said I really appreciate you two making this video. Prices have at least doubled since my grocery shopping days. Great haul! God bless you both. ✝️🙏🏽✝️🙏🏽✝️
I found out quite a few year's ago that I could freeze whole tomatoes in the freezer and use them in soups ,stews, spaghetti sauces, salsa sauce. What a great idea
The downside is Aldi doesn't have much that is no added salt. The upside is a very large selection of gluten-free products. We place a curbside order for Walmart then go to Aldi, stopping at Walmart on the way home. Works great. 😊
There is no time to rotate non perishable items so stuff in the back is not always better. Stocking is done during the overnight hours so it's better to shop in the morning.
I love your Walmart hauls. I write down everything you buy with the prices and use it as a guide for my own prepping. You make very good choices so keep doing these please.
After paying 6.99 for Mayonnaise at the supermarket, I have decided to start doing my pantry stock up at Walmart. My husband doesn’t care but being a stay at home wife I try to save money anywhere I can! Thank you for your videos!
My sister and I live fairly close to each other in NM. We buy mostly what's on sale each week. They've started delivery, which is a godsend. It's funny how nicely that works to build an emergency supply. We've learned to only buy what we regularly eat. A freezer really helps. You will be happiest with an upright, so you don't have to keep bending over.
I've learned never to buy my groceries at one place. I always pick up the ads and circle the best prices so I get the most for my dollar that week. If two stores have the same type of item and one is less expensive I cross off the one I've circled on the other store.
If you have a smoothie maker you can make your own mayonnaise with one egg olive oil flavour it as you please, spot of mustard is good.check on line for details.❤️🥰🙏 from London UK 🇬🇧🇺🇸🇬🇧🇺🇸🇬🇧🇺🇸
It’s very wise to stock your pantry because we don’t know what tomorrow holds, especially in this economy. We live on social security and we try to keep a tight budget. This week we put our car in the repair shop and our bill was $625.00. That was a huge unexpected expense. God bless you both. ❤
I was in a car crash couple months ago and it was nice that I had lots of food I bought at Costco in stock so that I could make it because I live by myself so I couldn’t go out shopping. I think going forward I’m just gonna buy a lot of canned goods and just keep itin a big old box so that I will always have something in case something bad happens.
@@SouthernCountryLiving So are home repairs. Last year I got new sewer, water and gas lines and it cost $10K. My house is 1947 so I live on as little as possible for unexpected emergencies.
You 2 are so sweet! I’m a grandma raising my 3 grandkids up in northern BC Canada and I appreciate you showing your Walmart grocery haul. Never hurts to have extra on hand and some to share with others that don’t have.
Thank you for this video, it doesn't matter if you are on ss or working regular we are all struggling to survive. God bless you and all those that are watching this video.
I have a bad habit of going to a nearby grocery store three to four times a week. As a result I'm counting the pennies toward the last part of the month. I now realize after watching this video why I never stick to a budget. Prepping is not something I've ever done but now that this senior is helping some family members I'll be making a one time trip to Walmart. I ran into this you tube video by accident and I'm happy I did. It's thanks to kind, people like you who take the time to do this. God bless you both.
Great job. Don't forget some canned fruits and veggies and maybe some dried fuits and nuts. Flour and yeast are good to have if you know how to make bread. If not, practice ahead of time. Its pretty easy. Powdered potatoes and milk are great to have on hand as well as spices. May God bless you and keep you in His care.
@June-tb4vi I get them. I've been buying them since I went to Europe back in the early 90s, and they had them. They've come in handy, especially with all the wild fires in CA, or the hurricanes in FL, and they taste fine. I usually buy Parmalat whole milk since that's what I drank overseas, but Horizon brand mini milk is good too, and you can use less. They'll last quite a while in your fridge once opened, far longer than fresh milk. I'm sorry for the long diatribe! Hope this helps, and be blessed!
@June-tb4vi I use them but I typically just use them in things and I do not just drink them by themselves but I have never been one to just drink milk so that is why I have not. They work great in the things I have used them in. Ex. Smoothie, cooking, oats, etc. I even found some chocolate milk ones from my husband. Be well! 😊
@@June-tb4vimy husband and I buy it all the time, it's just pasteurized (heated) for a longer period of time and we can't tell the difference. Once you open it it has to be refrigerated and will go bad eventually, just like regular milk. We always get the whole milk.
Hi! I enjoyed this prep haul. I'm 69 (soon to be 70) and a widow and I also do prep hauls but just for myself. Something cute - in my grandmother's day she called it "Come Winter" meaning come winter you'll be glad you have it - not calling it prepping like people do now. She taught me well as a young bride and I have done it my whole adult life. I also can which really helps!! They lived threw the depression and knew what it was like to have to make do. My sister and her husband also prep. They have a large pantry - my storage is in my garage and not nearly as large. I really enjoy your channel - keep up the good work and God Bless!!
That’s cute!! Come winter! I’ve been doing this too for many years and I laughed when I started seeing those shows with preppers and I thought well lordy I’ve been a prepper all my life and didn’t even know it🤣🤣🤣
I just started watching your channel and I just LOVE it. Love your recipes and your shopping sprees. Glad to hear your health is improving. Jesus loves you and so do I🥰❤
I am a single 65 year old senior and I have a prepping pantry. It has saved me so much money over the years. During the pandemic when cat food was hard to find I stocked up on canned Chicken and plain Tuna. They didnt have to eat more than a couple of cans ( which they love). But it came in handy for my meals and theirs. * When the package of 2 or 4 cans of Chicken have one damaged can, my suggestion is to speak to the manager and ask for a discount on the remaining undented cans. Especially where so many packages were dented. I would have spiken with a manager since so many packages had 1 dented can and asked for a discount then discarded the damaged can. I have done this @ Walmart and been successful. Those Beef Burgers came out to $.87/ burger ! Awesome deal !
We've had once since pur grandparents 1920s ...cold winters it's necessary in kansas..and stews...the fixings may be a bunch of things lol. It's crock pot season, and Sunday dinners, and donation to church season
That was a lot of work & you did a fine job. Finding enough money & a place to store it all is hard for some of us. It's nice to know it's there. Thank you for sharing your haul. Please rest up😊
Don't forget MOST food has 'best by" dates and they can last MANY years past that. Check the FDA website or other trusted sites. It's a crime what food people throw out!!
My husband and i are seniors. Im 69, he's 79 and still working for UPS. We are planning for him to retire by the end of the year. We are changing our life completely. Selling our home and either getting a snall apartment or a motor home. No firm decision yet. We also set aside funds to prep now and then. I like to by a number of freese dried foods too. Lighter weight and they go a long way. Im making a chicken stew with freeze dried vegetables. So ill be living off our social security only starting next year. That'll be a very new experience for us. Enjoyed your video. Ill be subscribing now. God bless❤
I’ve never shop at Walmart. Those prices are pretty low. Much lower than Aldi’s in NY. This is a wonderful idea especially for seniors like me. Very helpful video, thank you for sharing.
❤ God Bless each of you for your kindness and loving demeaner toward each other. God Bless and keep y'all, your families and loved ones Today Tomorrow and Always.
Here in coastal GA we don't have to prep for winter, groceries are close to everyone, and we have two full growing seasons for produce. We do, however, have to be mindful of being prepared for hurricane season, groceries, fuel, water, cash, etc. from July to November. As a retiree living on fixed income its still a responsible practice to watch your food budget and the quality of the food you eat. For singles it doesn't make sense to buy in bulk, Just know what you have on hand, buy sales, stock your freezer with meat protein when its on sale, but not all at once, because you just cant eat it fast enough. Meal planning will help you avoid food waste. I enjoyed this video and have been thinking there should be more content created by seniors.
Start canning stuff that is on sale or clearance. Time is going to get tuff. Better to do it while you still can. I learned at 63 to pressure can, now I have a lot of stuff put back.
Learned from watching this. Four packs of tuna and four packs of chicken are cheaper than Aldi! Also, the frozen hamburger patties are roughly $3.48 a lb. Wow.
Most humble and necessary grocery shopping ... No rubbish stuff ,,no hoarding.. small gestures,, speaks alot ...Just perfect. This generation should learn a lot of things from such hardworking elders. Love from India 🇮🇳❤
I bought a cart full yesterday for our food bank, tuna and beans the only proteins. It came to $115. The food bank said donations are down drastically. Please consider a small donation to a food bank.
I love how cool this couple are.❤❤❤ In other country’s (Japan) people have gardens, like in old times in America they conserve vegetables for the winter. In Italy people make tomatoes sauce for all year long. People live healthy and long life . Can products have too much sodium.
The sodium is high on much of what they selected. There were lower sodium options on many of those items. I buy the Great Value no salt added tomato products, boxed chicken or beef stock, unsalted and so on. And I've gone gluten-free as it has really eliminated my arthritis pain. There were only a couple of things they purchased that I would even eat.
You have no idea how helpful this video is to me! I am 72 almost 73 and I hardly have any money to buy groceries, but I’m taking what I watched you two do and I’m going to head to my local Walmart tomorrow and try to spend what I have for my groceries as wisely as you two did! New subscriber here!
Hello Calvin and Marie. Nice haul! Every time we go grocery shopping, we buy a little extra for our pantry to keep it stocked. Thanks for sharing. Take care. Mrs Lonnie
I am in my early 40's but am a single mom with no child support. Just watching your channel has saved me time and money. I stock up a little at a time with the canned goods and rice. I also have been stocking up on Beef Stew pouches. If not for my child and I, at least, for those left behind. Plus you know something always happens during election time around the end of September early October. So if not anything else it will get is through whatever is to happen... maybe another pandemic worse than the first one. 😢
I go online to my local grocery stores and clip the digital coupons for when I do shop. Yea I watch those good sales. Like now is Progresso hearty soups 1.49 and Ragu sauces 1.29. Most states have 211 its a statewide help line with resources and emergency information too. It's worth calling. Bless you and sounds like your a good MOM 💜😁🍁🍂🍁🍂🍁🍂
I also raised my child on my own. Back then there were no laws to force fathers to pay. In 18 years I only received $15 total for her support. We survived with help from others and I looked up everything I could online for free and cheap things to do. My situation made me stronger, wiser, more educated, more self sufficient than I would have ever been otherwise. I'm 73 years old now. Videos like this one and the library one were indespencible for my sanity. Hang in there. You'll be fine.
Enjoyed your video. God bless you both. I will be 80 next week and have always enjoyed being a homemaker. It is so sad that the current generation doesn't have those skills as much as they should. I still love to bake from scratch and with the price of bread today I'm glad I can still do that. Even Walmart prices have gone through the roof. Stay healthy and have a great day.
First time I’ve ever watched your videos, but really enjoyed it. I feel so blessed we are able to fill our pantries. It’s really getting harder for us seniors. God bless. 💜
I very much enjoy your prepping videos. We are seniors also living on social security. We don’t have a pantry, we don’t have a garage, we don’t have a basement but we store cans under several beds. Marie, Calvin my husband and I are the same age as you two. My parents grew up during the great depression so during my childhood I was taught to stock up the pantry and all the reasons why. I cannot tell you how many times it saved my husband and I over the years raising our 3 sons. If hard times hit, we always had enough pantry and freezer food to last us a good while. Then we were able to pay our bills without worry too much. Thank you for sharing your knowledge always helps to have someone else's perspective. Good to see you and Marie doing well. Enjoy your weekend and see you on the Sunday Chat .

Thanks for sharing your haul Calvin and Marie. I think it's time for me to start a mini stockpile. Also, there's a product called Better than Bouillon. It's great! I ditched the cubes. One jar lasts a long time. It dissolves quickly and taste's great. It comes in chicken, beef & vegetable.
Just found your channel. Loved listening to you narrate your shopping trip. We are in our 60s and I'm still working. We bought a freeze dryer a couple of years ago and preserve most of our food that way now. So glad we have that means of stocking up for an emergency. Please though, hang onto your cans of expired goods. Canned food lasts well past the expiration date if stored properly.
Glad to see you getting your winter preps!! Next time at check out....have a second basket. Load the basket after you scanned and bagged items. This way you are not having to lift it all over again!!!!!!!!
As a single senior or a couple, fresh produce goes bad pretty quick, so I started keeping dehydrated carrots/celery/onion/garlic.....wished I'd done it sooner. Cost a little more than fresh, but keeps forever and it's always on hand. Almost forgot....try making Lentil soup, I use a blender after it's cooked and it is so packed with iron..........taste good too:)
It's smart to be prepared. We get snow here and have very cold temperatures, and it would be nice not to have to worry about going to the store. Some people are buying a few extra cans of something when they shop. If I use a can of say tomato soup, I try to buy 2 to replace it. It helps. ❤
honestly I never got the prepping aspect, I remember that with older people that were documented, lot of their food would go to waste/expire/loss of money, due to them buying too much and forgetting, having to rebuy; lot of their money would go to prepping.. I can understand to buy a certain amount , not to make sooo many trips, like myself I keep it to a month trip minimum at least, anything small like fresh snacks, whenever. Depending how long people prep far and moderation, what not.
@koilamaoh4238 I agree with you that some will be lost especially as we get older. I compare it to buying insurance for your car. It is a waste of money until you need it and then you are thankful that you had it. We had a period of nine months back in 2013 that we actually lived off of the food that we had prepped. We were thankful to be able to do that and not have to ask anyone for assistance.
@@SouthernCountryLiving but considering the "covid" era... oh yeaaaa.. Prepping does help and makes sense when I think about it.. What a chore that short era was. Looking at possibilities of pandemics occurring. Better to be safe than sorry. There was also the "swine" flu era we missed , which wasnt taken as seriously, during obama I think; I really do not like being sick and interacting with a lot of people during shopping. Sometimes I feel that I am overbuying, and some foods are going to waste on my part, even tho, i am not spending too much. Just eating less.
It’s nice seeing real folks doing real things. Nothing exciting, just living life. It’s how the majority of us live. God Bless you both!

Lol, yes I remember those days. I was even the teenager putting them in the cars back in the late 1960's
I couldn't believe Walmart had no checkout lines during the time designated for senior shoppers. Do better Walmart.
My local store still does this..
We still have 2 in our small town that do that. They don’t have as much variety but it’s nice.

Yes, can openers are important.
Well if there's a crisis in the world you most likely are not going to have any utilities so you're not going to be able to cook any of the food either
You can cook outside with a charcoal BBQ grill or use wood to make a fire.@@victoriapalmer5146
There are camp stoves, butane burners, grills, and plain old campfires (using cast iron pots and pans). And canned foods, commercially and home canned are cooked. They may taste better hot, but, if properly processed, are safe to eat.@victoriapalmer5146

If you're smart enough you'll find a way to cook. How do you think people ate before our fancy kitchens.

Take care, sweet lady. It sounds like you are doing better now. Good thoughts and prayers are sent your way.
We had a similar situation that happened to us when I was 61 so we understand. We lived of of our prepping supplies for nine months.

Never heard of that trick! Good to know as I have never has a problem with insects.
Wonderful video for so many reasons. Every politician, every billionaire and every Walmart executive should watch this!
I saw those receipts!🧐🤬🤬🤬

I do believe in prepping. My dad was a prepper before we called it that. Back in the 60’s we had a walk-in pantry which stayed stocked. Every can had to be like a standing soldier face forward etc….lol…My mom did the cooking but daddy did the stocking. I remember on Friday’s they went to the neighborhood A&P in Chicago, and came home with regular groceries and also cases of canned goods. He replaced them as needed. I can remember it like it was yesterday. Daddy was originally from outside Nashville in Shelbyville……..Loved the video…Blessings

OMG.. you took me way back with the A&P. They have been closed for years down through out the South. But I remember them well.
@@vickiealexander2910 Yes I liked A&P stores too.

One more thing, if you're near an Aldi's, you can get all these items for quite a bit lower price than what Walmart is charging

Gotta compare them.
Aldi is much cheaper on beans, canned veggies, pasta, and albacore. Flour, sugar, and staples are less.
The downside is Aldi doesn't have much that is no added salt. The upside is a very large selection of gluten-free products. We place a curbside order for Walmart then go to Aldi, stopping at Walmart on the way home. Works great. 😊

Shelf stable milk from Dollar Tree is also good. In the winter if the power goes out we can box up the cold stuff and store in the garage etc
I saw that milk...whole..2%..oat...
Has anyone tried them?

Thanks very much
Y'all got quite a bit of stuff for 211.00. Have a nice Day!!
Thanks very much
Oh I just loved watching this sweet couple! ❤
Thanks very much
I am a single 65 year old senior and I have a prepping pantry.
Great idea. Thanks very much
We've had once since pur grandparents 1920s ...cold winters it's necessary in kansas..and stews...the fixings may be a bunch of things lol. It's crock pot season, and Sunday dinners, and donation to church season
Dented cans can cause botulism.
That was a lot of work & you did a fine job. Finding enough money & a place to store it all is hard for some of us.
It's nice to know it's there. Thank you for sharing your haul. Please rest up😊
So true! Thanks very much
I always check expiration date on items as I put them in my shopping cart
Don't forget MOST food has 'best by" dates and they can last MANY years past that. Check the FDA website or other trusted sites. It's a crime what food people throw out!!
😮 Can’t believe all the damaged chicken. Thank you for taking the time to help us prep.
Thanks very much Tracy. That is very kind of you. We appreciate your support for our channel.
I love how both of you speak with kindness and patience.
Thanks very much
You can make meatloaf patties with those burgers sliced onion, tomato sauce and seasoning on top!
Oh yes!
My favorite
My husband and i are seniors. Im 69, he's 79 and still working for UPS. We are planning for him to retire by the end of the year. We are changing our life completely. Selling our home and either getting a snall apartment or a motor home. No firm decision yet. We also set aside funds to prep now and then. I like to by a number of freese dried foods too. Lighter weight and they go a long way. Im making a chicken stew with freeze dried vegetables. So ill be living off our social security only starting next year. That'll be a very new experience for us.
Enjoyed your video. Ill be subscribing now. God bless❤
Welcome !! Thanks very much
Apartment rents will keep going up. Better to just down size to smaller home where you can have a garden.
I’ve never shop at Walmart. Those prices are pretty low. Much lower than Aldi’s in NY. This is a wonderful idea especially for seniors like me. Very helpful video, thank you for sharing.
You are so welcome. Thanks very much
❤ God Bless each of you for your kindness and loving demeaner toward each other. It's so healthy to see people who actually care about each other doing what they can to provide for their future, whether it's a long far away future or a not quite so far away future. God Bless and keep y'all, your families and loved ones Today Tomorrow and Always.
Thanks very much
Here in coastal GA we don't have to prep for winter, groceries are close to everyone, and we have two full growing seasons for produce.
Thanks very much Sheila
Start canning stuff that is on sale or clearance. Time is going to get tuff. Better to do it while you still can. I learned at 63 to pressure can, now I have a lot of stuff put back.
Learned from watching this. Four packs of tuna and four packs of chicken are cheaper than Aldi! Also, the frozen hamburger patties are roughly $3.48 a lb. Wow.
Thanks very much
Most humble and necessary grocery shopping ...
No rubbish stuff ,,no hoarding.. small gestures,, speaks alot ...Just perfect. This generation should learn a lot of things from such hardworking elders. Love from India 🇮🇳❤
Thanks very much
I love these prep videos. I'm starting to do this for my family now.
Wonderful! Thanks very much
I bought a cart full yesterday for our food bank, tuna and beans the only proteins. It came to $115. The food bank said donations are down drastically. Please consider a small donation to a food bank.
@janielittlehorse8477 yes we do. That is one reason that we get the one pound bags of beans and rice.
What a sweet, beautiful couple. He reminds me of my dad so much, who I miss terribly. 7 years gone.
Thanks very much
I love how cool this couple are.❤❤❤
In other country’s (Japan) people have gardens, like in old times in America they conserve vegetables for the winter.
Welcome to our channel. Thanks very much
Hello Calvin and Marie. Nice haul! Every time we go grocery shopping, we buy a little extra for our pantry to keep it stocked. Thanks for sharing. Take care. Mrs Lonnie
That's the best way to do it.
Thanks very much Mrs Lonnie
I am in my early 40's but am a single mom with no child support. Just watching your channel has saved me time and money. I stock up a little at a time with the canned goods and rice. I also have been stocking up on Beef Stew pouches. If not for my child and I, at least, for those left behind. Plus you know something always happens during election time around the end of September early October. So if not anything else it will get is through whatever is to happen... maybe another pandemic worse than the first one. 😢
Thanks very much. We always pray that nothing will happen but we want to be prepared if it does.

Thanks very much.
Happy Birthday!!
i have a bread machine. flour, water, salt and yeast. make it fancy with some herbs
First time I’ve ever watched your videos, but really enjoyed it. I feel so blessed we are able to fill our pantries. It’s really getting harder for us seniors. God bless. 💜
Wonderful! Thanks very much
I very much enjoy your prepping videos. We are seniors also living on social security. We don’t have a pantry, we don’t have a garage, we don’t have a basement but we store cans under several beds. I love Walmart grocery pickup. Our Walmart is always busy since there are only 2 grocery stores in our town.
That is awesome! Thanks very much Shelby
❤❤❤ y'all are so sweet I am so glad I found you!=what is sweet lucky wife to have a nice hard-working husband how sweet this is a rare find❤❤ thank you for sharing your love and showing us what Love is❤
Thank you so much!
Thanks very much Kathy
When I grew up in the 60s and 70s, we had one cupboard of food! I had never seen a pantry! When I saw one in 1982 I was overwhelmed that someone could have that much food in the house!
Hi I'm 64 not on social security yet but next year but I got emotional while you folks were doing the shopping cz j do the same thing you got good stuff for 211$ and everything non perishable smart thing to do God bless and keep up the good work buy the way I subscribed love you're video 🙏🏻❤️
Welcome to our channel. Thanks very much
This video is very informative and shows you dont have to spend lots of money to be able to stock for the colder months. You guys are so calming to watch! I love it ❤ I buy pretty much the same things to put away and have on hand in case of emergency. I just prefer spring water to purified. New subscriber ❤❤😊
Welcome, thanks very much
@@SouthernCountryLiving you are very welcome 🙏
Good day Calvin and Marie! Excellent food haul, so blessed to have each other to prepare together. It is a lot of work, but so worth it. Take care, God bless🙏
Thanks very much
I started doing the grocery pickup before I retired and before the pandemic. I wouldn't do it any other way unless I have to.
Thanks very much
Thanks for the list of shopping with you both. Your a sweet couple 😊
😊 thank you
What a sweet couple. Thank you for sharing your shopping experience and what great things to put in our cupboards.
Our pleasure!
We haven't tried that but we were concerned about the humidity here causing it to cake up
@@SouthernCountryLiving and it's expiration date isn't as long as the cubes
@@SouthernCountryLiving There is a store brand and we keep ours in the fridge and it doesn't cake.
@@theresariter Welcome !! Thanks very much
Glad to see you getting your winter preps!!
Next time at check out....have a second basket. Load the basket after you scanned and bagged items. This way you are not having to lift it all over again!!!!!!!!
Thanks for the tips!
Thanks for the tips!
That is a good idea.
I buy dehydrated products from Augason Farms, shelf life 10 to 25 years
Thank you, Ms. Marie and Mr. Calvin for taking us along and for all the tips! I pick up a few extra items each time I go. God bless you both💜🙏

You are so welcome
It's smart to be prepared. We get snow here and have very cold temperatures, and it would be nice not to have to worry about going to the store. Some people are buying a few extra cans of something when they shop. If I use a can of say tomato soup, I try to buy 2 to replace it. It helps. ❤
Very true! Thanks very much
That’s what I “prep” for lol I’ve done it all my life and close to fall I’m like a squirrel collecting nuts and storing away for winter ❤
honestly I never got the prepping aspect, I remember that with older people that were documented, lot of their food would go to waste/expire/loss of money, due to them buying too much and forgetting, having to rebuy; lot of their money would go to prepping..
You guys did great. Enjoyed watching you shop. I love grocery shopping!
Thanks so much
Marie and Calvin you two are a breath of fresh air.
Thanks very much
