Burt, you are doing a great job of teaching Audrey how a husband is there to help do the heavy lifting 💪 when doing the shopping 🛍. I think that is amazing that both of you are doing a great job at helping show your little ones how to treat their mate. Way to go.

I was getting rid of old receipts yesterday and I found one from 2019 and our groceries which was a huge haul for $180. I found one from this yr it was almost $400. I call it price and gouging by companies and stores. You guys are great. 💙🙏💙

I live on a fixed income and to make ends meet I make everything from scratch so economical but I don't have any children to run after either. That 8 can pack of chili was outrageous in price 😦 paper products are expensive without a doubt. I am very happy that you have decided to fill those gaps in your short term pantry. We never know what tomorrow will bring having enough to ride you through the turbulent waters is a stress relief. Blessings❤️

This family lives in North Pole Alaska, that is 300+ miles north from where I live in Alaska Wasilla, so spend $800 shopping at a Costco in Anchorage Alaska 42 miles from my home in Wasilla. The trip from NP cost and the shopping more than $800. The Parks Highway is not an easy or safe road trip to make during the winter months. The big Alaskan moose can be encountered anywhere along the PHwy and that isn't counting the icy road.

We cloth diaper here to save money so that's one expense we don't have to worry about.
But with the last train derailment being 10 minutes from our home and authorities being slow on releasing any info on whether any chemicals leaked or if they were going to go to any extent of evaluating in the area, it was nice to know that we were at some level of preparedness and if need to be just load our passenger van and go.

I just buy an extra couple cans or a package of items I use regularly each trip, especially of any item I have already used that week. It is a slower method but eventually I have a stock of a month or two of these often used items and only have to replace what I use each week, putting the new one in the back and using the oldest first. However, being able to buy a whole case now and again does save money, but you do not have to buy everything at once if you do not have that much money extra in the budget.

    • @emmib1388
      @emmib1388 Рік тому +3

While some can't do it, others think they can't do it -- it just requires some organization, doing a budget to see where all their money is going, and planning. For example, if an item is on sale for 1/2 price, buy two and put one aside...you don't have to buy an entire case at a time :-)

I live in Florida so if I’m keeping stuff, it’s canned goods because of hurricanes. Things we can easily eat and make without electricity. Of course some of the stuff doesn’t taste as good but it’s fine. Usually like chef boyardee and Vienna Sausage. But I usually eat very healthy, whole, fresh foods so I don’t usually eat those or keep them on hand unless a hurricane is coming. I always keep rice in the house for a normal time but not a lot of it. But my fiancé and I love rice.
I literally just bought that vanilla extract yesterday. was 10-11$ here in Florida.

I'm in Wisconsin. Our last COSTCO shop was over $700 and we are 2 people. 5mon. earlier we spent $500-ish. and we bought more. Inflation is crazy! Stay safe and God bless ♡

I may be telling too much information.
But I love to stock up especially in these inflated days.
But my Husband is not on board and it’s very hard without getting a hard time.
I think it’s wonderful that you all work together.
Because if nothing else , we gotta eat

My family due to fixed income can only spend 300 each month to feed 6 people. I have learned to make everything from almost nothing. We even eat what grows wild in the summer and store and freeze things like fiddle heads, ferns for veggies.

Ouch! Everything here in central, west coast of Florida is up. Some things doubled or more in the last couple of years. Even a can of ravioli is up a good 50 cents a can of more from last year. We're lucky enough to have a lot of choices when it comes to shopping so we can shop around a little bit, but it's getting a lot harder to buy necessities, much less an extra can. You're great parents preparing your children for adulthood by having them help with chores like this and being made aware of how much the real world costs and how to deal with it. Great job all and a big hug to little Olivia!

I live in the UK and it’s always puzzled me why the use of paper plates seems to be “a thing” in the USA. Surely that’s an item that isn’t essential during these high price times ? X

They live in a place where they can lose electricity due to winter storms. Because they don't live in town they likely use a well for water. If you don't have electricity, your well pump can't operate in order to get water into the house. If you have paper plates on hand in your emergency supplies you won't have to worry with running out of dishes should the power be out for a long time. As far as why paper plates are a "thing" here, it's about convenience. If you have a very busy and on the go family, often paper plates are used to save time on clean up after a meal. That being said, not all people in the US use paper plates on a regular basis. Most people here use regular dishes for eating our meals and only use paper plates occasionally like for a get together/party.

I love watching your family events. Hubby and I are retired - kids grown and gone. We are homebodies and don’t eat out much so cook our own meals and always use leftovers. I have a small pantry and always like to have 2-3 of items on hand. We have Sams Club in town and they are building as we speak a new Costco about 2 miles from our house. Due to inflation we spend about $100-150 more on a Sams Club haul. We don’t get extras really- no cookies- no convenience meals so I guess in comparison I do about the same as you folks! BTW- we are in Buckeye AZ- we have been to Alaska twice ( cruising) it’s beautiful! I would love to drive up there in our RV and spend a couple months in the summer! Love you all and your family! God Bless you! The Marshall Family.

One thing we realized that we didn't have enough of this year was vitamins and children's medicines. There was a shortage in Canada and we did not have enough stock at home. That price seems pretty similar to my local Canadian store.

We just did a stock up with Sams. Two carts would normally cost us maybe 300 to 450 a couple of years ago cause us over 800 dollars. The prices are just going up. We have been shopping at discount grocery stores for some stuff and I have been dehydrating produce items when they are on sale if we eat them so I have it.

I live in Northern Ontario and I went to Costco here and I find sometimes that it's cheaper to buy certain things at Walmart then at Costco. The frozen fruit was so much more expensive than Walmart I couldn't believe it.
I wanted to ask you if you ever make homemade spaghetti sauce/lasagna sauce? That's what I stock up on is canned tomatoes, tomato paste, tomato sauce, because I make a lot of homemade sauces and hubby makes homemade chili.

We went to Costco yesterday 3/6/23 we got what we were out of and things that were getting low. Spend $250 prices were up since the shopping trip 6 months ago. We did pick up sale items which saved us some. We eat from the pantry so only go to grocery store when out of milk, butter, bread when I don't have time to make it. Peanut butter price is up.

I was in at $800 minimum. I shop that Costco. The canned green beans and corn were under $9 last summer when I stocked up, now almost $12! Now I peruse the flyer and restock when they are on sale. I used to hold out for Bounty and Charmin paper products, but I won’t pay the prices anymore (this was helped by the septic pumping company recently informing me Charmin is the worst in septic tanks as it does not break down as well as other brands). Nothing like a Christmas time septic crisis to push a person off brand loyalty. 😂

From one spam lover to another I have a quick recipe for you. One onion and one bell pepper chopped and sauteed until tender. Add two cans of spam(chopped) to onion and pepper cook for five minutes . Add barbecue sauce and simmer for fifteen minutes. Eat on buns like sloppy joes. Hope you'll try it. Hope you all love it like my family does ❤️

My guess was $750, a good stock up! It’s just me and my Cat. I have family nearby and I don’t like to stock up but I also don’t like going to the store to experiment with recipes so I tend to keep a lot of staples and an extra on hand. Works well for me!
