I have a cheap Epi SG Special, I made the humbuckers splittable, it has some kind of maple body (I guess) and a bolt on neck.. It sounds more strattier than strat itself.
Dear Fretted Americana, the band playing live at the end is amazing. You have truly raised the bar. Thank you. That is all. wait, no that is not all. The band playing live at the end is actually cruelly short. Do more with this please, even if you have to sell recordings of the performance separately. Also, I am sure the stolen guitars were insured and everything, but I really hope they get recovered and don't get destroyed or lost forever.
That was you? Nice work, man. I don't know much about mixing but my philosophy is, if I listen to just, say, the drums, in a mix, and I can't hear 'em all properly because somethin else is overpowering, it's not a good mix. Loved it, dude. I wish the record labels agreed with me.
Tabs are helpful when used correctly (this means, you use them to check out the correct fingerings, but you still use your ears to listen to all of the small nuances in the original version), but a lot of people close their ears when they use tabs and end up learning these "half-assed" versions of the songs. The notes are correct, but it lacks all of the stuff that made the original riff sound so cool.
I never had to intonate my 1970 Melody Maker SG and It always tuned extremely well but I stupidly sold it and bought another one except it was a 1969 and it would not intonate. It would be in tune in one chord and be out of tune in another. Non of the guitar techs could intonate or fix it. I'm going to buy another one hoping I get one that will intonate. If I get one that has problems tuning how do you intonate them? Does anyone know?
also how you guys fairing with the loss of that hefty inventory takin from you guys. I read it on reddit and my heart sank to my feet. My heart goes out to you guys at FA.
This is going to be an incredibly long shot... but does anyone know the riff from 2:40 to 2:55? I’ve been coming back to this video for the last 5 years just to listen to that riff lol
What I just love about Tabs on the net is the way these guys transcribe songs into THE most difficult way to play it. Absolute bitch chords you need to dislocate digits to play. And then you watch a vid of the original artist and he's playing all bar chords, just like you suspected!
XJX rocks: he already looks like a Rock-Star ! :) With a father like Phil, I guess he'll be hell of a guitar player \m/ David: keep one of those lovely guitars of yours for his 13th birthday :-)
I had one of these. It was a 1970 and it had very skinny fret wire. I don't understand why it says it has Jumbo frets. I didn't think jumbo frets existed in the 60s and 70s.
Hey Phil! Would it be too much awesomeness if you did a video using a tele with harmonic super 90's and then your LTD PX90's to see how they compared? Thanks!
I've seen one with 2 pickups on sale once here in holland of all places :p unfortunately I didn't have the cash to pick it up. Im never gonna find one of those for sale again.
tja probeer sowieso maar eens een oude gibson in Nederland te kopen. de enigste manier is marktplaats. En heel af en toe kom je er een tegen in de winkel.
"If you can't hear the difference, play drums!" That's great. Congrats Phil.
Ahhh another daily shot of inspiration Thanks to all the folks who make this
THANK YOU! it is those subtle nuances that make a song COMPLETELY different
I have a cheap Epi SG Special, I made the humbuckers splittable, it has some kind of maple body (I guess) and a bolt on neck.. It sounds more strattier than strat itself.
Congrats Phil! My mother passed away almost 12 hours later to the minute, October 24th at 4:39 pm. Such is the circle of life.
Congrats on the baby Phil!
That melody maker sounds sweetest!
No matter how crazy you are. Your one Great guitar players. Unreal, just awesome.
Dear Fretted Americana,
the band playing live at the end is amazing. You have truly raised the bar. Thank you. That is all.

I kinda like that sun-bleached finish :)
Sounds amazing. Nice and chunky for a single-coil, which I much prefer.
No one forgets the words better than Phil!! He makes it hilarious.
God that sounds so good with singles
The middle pup 3:00 and little bit of reelin' in the years, steely dan :-D
thank you Philly
that neck position tone is out of this world!!
So glad someone has kept a few grams of the vibe !!!!
Been watchin' FA since 08, stuff has really changed. damn i feel old
Yeah The old vibe is finally back with this video! Like it so much man
Waitin' for the Phil X book!
Lotsa tab, I hope.
It's like the world's greatest hybrid guitar. Wish they would make a reissue of this!
The best is actually a c shape strat with a hot gibson/dimarzio/semour duncan in the bridge. Throw in a coil split, and you have all the tone.
might be the best sounding guitar you've ever demo'd. And congrats on your son!
Congrats man...the kid will have a top instructor growing up
Wow, this was a pleasant suprise. I thought that with Mr X now being a dad, there wouldn't be any episodes for a while. Now that's commitment. :)
Playing the weekly guitar with the band at the end is brilliant. Keep that shit up! It's good to hear it in context!
That was you? Nice work, man. I don't know much about mixing but my philosophy is, if I listen to just, say, the drums, in a mix, and I can't hear 'em all properly because somethin else is overpowering, it's not a good mix. Loved it, dude. I wish the record labels agreed with me.
aww congrats phil we all love you....im shure your kid will be a legend too
Congrats on the Lil Boy Phil!!!!!!!:D He's such a cutie!!!:D AND I M STILL A HUGE FAN BRO!!!:D
I think it sounds a lot like my ol' fender!
Greeeaaaat sound!
And congrats on the kid Phil!
Also, that 30 seconds of band music sounded better, production-wise, than ... everything on the radio, man, everything in the last how many years.
8:19 = BAAAAAYYYYHHHHCKKKK IN THE SADDLE AGAIYYYYEN!!!!!!!!!
Man that is a pretty looking guitar.
CONGRATULATIONS on the baby!!!! :D

I love that face he makes when he explains the guitar part.
Great sound on this demo. Good amp choice to fit this odd yet cool guitar
This has got to be one of the greatest Phil X FA video EVER.
Fucking brilliant.
Love the guitar reviews Phil, please do some more riff lessons, you have a great feel!
Congrats on your baby Papa X ;)

I'm having a lot of trouble correcting neck grip with hand and thumb the thumb position is above or below? phil x yay! gratz
also how you guys fairing with the loss of that hefty inventory takin from you guys. I read it on reddit and my heart sank to my feet. My heart goes out to you guys at FA.
Oh man, Phil! There was a missed opportunity to break into "Back in the Saddle Again" at 8:18.
Congrats on becoming a father PhilX. You're to awesome.
I've watched like 20 of your videos now... And I must say, you are ridiculously entertaining.
Do Not Encourage him.

Hey congrats Phil on the baby! WOoooooo!
Congrats to Phil on the BABY !!
Congratulations Phil!
I can't believe that a Phil X video made me fall asleep in front of the computer.
Congrats on your new Baby!
@Fretted Americana, RFID tags are the way forward, as small as a grain of rice nowadays. can track them anywhere! hope you find the guitars.
please Phil write a tab book with all your hits and the right way to play all songs please!!!
its early as hell so I'm not fully awake now and holy crap that baby frightened the hell out of me lmao
"if you can't hear difference , play drums" - Phil X best quote EVER!!!!!!!!
I love lightweight guitars, I would rock this thing
same
Miss Kelly said you can't love lightweight guitars, only people and animals,
wow it sounds really thick for a single coil
Baby is 8.5lbs, isnt that the ideal weight for a LP Phil?
atolleter Haha!
You rock phil! I'm shocked you did a vid after having a kid! Get some rest you and your lady!
Congrats Daddio!.
This is going to be an incredibly long shot...
but does anyone know the riff from 2:40 to 2:55?
I’ve been coming back to this video for the last 5 years just to listen to that riff lol
It's great to see Johnny Depp doing some music again 11:15
Jayden Bueno Johnny sucks
I thought it's a cheap lespaul with cheap finishing just like the reissue
but damn that Melody Maker III is awesome
I’ve looked for this video for 2 months now

Missed the perfect opportunity to play “Back In The Saddle Again”
i love this guy!
How much this original 1968 cost ? I freaking love it man
Thought so. I've always played it open. Thanks =D
Thanks !
Spot on Ziad....could not have said it better....k.j.
Lovely tone!
Once, I heard a band try to play "I Shot the Sheriff" in a major key, "A" to be specific, including the main descending intro riff.
Congrats Phil your one hell of a guy
Thing sounds sick in drop D!!
Joe,walk this way,Px, wait till you hit 60 and arthritis sets in!!,, you'll love it you really will promise rock on dude
I had one of these. It was a 1970 and it had very skinny fret wire. I don't understand why it says it has Jumbo frets. I didn't think jumbo frets existed in the 60s and 70s.

His tone on Supernaut was bloody deadly!
Sorry to hear about your guitars fretted Americana :( hope you get justice soon. Love the vids .
oh good lord! that thing sounds great!
I never use tabs - you are totally right on that one. You gotta use your ears!!!!
Hey Phil! Would it be too much awesomeness if you did a video using a tele with harmonic super 90's and then your LTD PX90's to see how they compared? Thanks!
Congrats!
Do you like partially mute the strings when playing walk this way?
It's a shame that these guitars were stollen. Pieces of history right there.
Wow I'm actually surprised Phil is back so fast happy but surprised
Phil X is essentially awesome!
PHILX X IS BACK!!!!
xavier xenidis? brave naming! congrats to both of you!
"if you don't hear the difference, play drums!" lmao
That neck sound is fucking beautiful
I've seen one with 2 pickups on sale once here in holland of all places :p unfortunately I didn't have the cash to pick it up. Im never gonna find one of those for sale again.

in een muziek winkel dan he
J'ai vu The Sweet jouer Ballroom Blitz avec la même guitare! Great guitar.
Phil, do you ever use delay? I've never heard you use delay?
I disagree with the tab bit; they help loads with knowing where to go, but you obviously add the subtle stuff from feel
AWESOME!
congrats on the mini X!! HAVE A KICKASS FATHERHOOD!
we're inside... HAD ME DYING
Whats the song at the end that they jam?
That git-arh sounds smokin' !!
