Haha, you don't know how happy it makes me to see these new vids after so long. Especially now with college starting up again, I won't be able to play my own guitars as much as I used to, but at least I can look forward to watching Phil X playing some beautiful guitars from Frettedamericana each week. Thank you so much for taking the time to do this
And to think that Gibson pretty much discontinued this guitar and changed to the SG body style in 1961....They changed it all up because these guitars didn't sell well...Sunburst Les Paul's were still being sold up to 1962 and 1963 as left over stock from 1960....Now they are the most iconic guitar in history.....About 1700 of them produced in 3 years....Amazing to say the least.
joe shmoe at my local guitar shop in around 1986, the owner had a good three dozen bursts, done with hangtags still on. $5k was the upper end of the scale. Aside from that he had ~500 pre-cbs Strats, n Telecasters, none of which cost more than a couple thousand at best.
Awesome video, glad he is back! I met him at Leeds on the drills last tour and what a great bloke ! So is the rest of the band,so approachable ! Great idea recording the band at the end loved it! WELCOME BACK !
Welcome back! I've missed your videos with all the wacky Canuck humour and wicked guitar work. I direct news at GlobalBC and everyone I work with knows who you are and what a kick I get out of checking out the latest each week from you. And a huge congrats Phil!!!! Becoming a father is the biggest and best! My son now plays guitar better than I ever did. And my deepest condolences about Mitzy. We lost our Westie 'Maggie' this past summer and it's been a very sad time around our house. Cheers
I am sooooo glad Phil is back!!!! All of us can now "FeeltheRealPHILosphy" of guitar playing!!!! I'm feel in' it! Phil rips & we all want more! Thanx to Frettedamericana again for bringing Phil back!
Man that thing is clean...top reminds me of Howard Leese's '60 you guys had through a while back. Thanks for the demo F.A., and congrats on the gig&kid-on-the-way to Phil!
My first Phil X video, this dude is the fricken coolest, man! I’ve seen almost every Burst video on UA-cam and I’ve never seen someone do that to one! I mean that as a compliment🤘🏻
I literally sreamed like a little girl in the 50's like she was at an elvis concert when i saw there's a new video here. no fuckin joke. glad to have you back phil :')
Im not a gibson guy, Im really not... but fuck my ass, every time I hear a GOOD vintage les paul, its just such a huge massive sound. Its a great sound, and I woul love nothing more than to have that sound available. I've had my hands on a LOT of high end guitars, but nothing has captured that absolutely massive sound these produce. wish they werent so expensive ;)
Hard to say which element of the tone here is the Les Paul and which is from the amps and their respective gain stages and tone stacks. I here nothing unique or remarkable in the tone here, and I think any good two humbucker guitar with the right construction techniques and materials will get you there. It does't have to be a Gibson.
***** hmm.. I have dozens of high end guitars. Not a single one of them sound like a GOOD les paul (key word -> "good"). they have their own good sounds, but they dont sound like a good les paul. Its like a vintage strat, nothing sounds like it.
congrats and best of luck on your new child- a big part of being a good dad is just loving your kid and making sure that they know it- if I had that burst I would be one happy camper
Awesome to see Phil and Fretted Americana are back just in time for the weather to start sucking! Definitely the best audio on any FA video to date, and more importantly, congrats on the kid Phil!
i know why fretted americana itself was a better place, it because its colorful, full of magic, and this place is just kinda grey and dark. thats totally it, colorfrul/bright
Great to have you back - and MUCH better scene in the background! I know Tommy's studio was great, but the console area wasn't really a great background for your videos. Great guitar work!
It's Saturday morning here in Australia, and I wake up to a smartphone reminder that a new video is up on YT for F.A. My weekend is made. Thanks folks, much appreciated. My chore for the day is to change out the tubes in my Evil*Robot combo and rock the f**k out. Congrats on the expectant bubs, Phil, and best of good fortune with your work with Bon Jovi.
Sorry for so many comments, but damn. Seriously this show is pure humanitarianism. I wonder if renting certain guitars to guys that use the studio would make more money over time than just selling them.
I didn't know session guitarists were still used as much as they are. This guy's discography is impressive as it is diverse. What a great musician. He just rattles off song after song so god dam effortlessly. I hate you Phil X haha.
Welcome back, Phil! The next time you test drive a vintage Les Paul, you GOTTA play 'Love Spreads' by the Stone Roses. That tune is Les Paul tone heaven.
Dude one of the best videos ive seen on youtube love your channel already and this is the first video ive ever heard of yours oyu now have a new subscriber sry about your dog bro
Hey phil, i was wondering if you could show us that bend trick that you do with your left hand on the neck o the guitar, because i't just AWESOME! Thanks!!
If that's actually a '59, it's ridiculously clean. During the entire video, I kept telling myself it was not a reissue but I'd put money on it being an R9 or so... Yeah, if that's really a '59, it's one of the cleanest I've seen. Great playing!
i have to say before i say anything about the guitar. congrats on the baby phil ive been following you guys since the start of these videos so really cool to hear that. happy for ya phil!!! someones gotta carry on the demos for fretted american someday :P hahaha
Hey Man it's Phil X Yeah Wooh! Glad to see you back on here Phil. Congrats on your your imminent fatherhood. If youre ever feeling uninspired drop us a message and I'll give you a few lessons. ;-)
Those 59s are the stratavarious of guitars....I have owned three historic 59s and have played two real 59s....and the historics are really close to the real deal they still fall short when you play the real thing....when I played the real 59s the whole guitar would just vibrate thru your body....it was beyond this world....🎸🎸🎸
Ohiohillbilly80 Thing is, there are '59's and then there are '59s. Some are worth it, like say Pearly Gates or the Peter Green/Gary Moore/Kirk Hammet guitar. The rest are Les Pauls made between 1958-62.
Even if I won the lottery I would buy a house first. I do understand the price and collectability. They are great guitars. Can justify the price before some paintings that just hang on a wall.
I have a very nice 1960 burst and payed no where NEAR those stated prices. i've had it for years and yes...it sounds and plays awesome. I also gig with it all the time.
Sorry to hear about your dog.
God bless you for playing "Earache My Eye" on a '59 burst. :-)
You are the best - keep up the good work!
I like the ratty Fender Cheech played on the movie. That was badass.
Maybe not the tu-tu 😕
When ever I get bored at work i watch Phil's guitar reviews... and then I LMAO..!! Thank you Phil X..!!! AWESOME DUUUUUDE
Haha, you don't know how happy it makes me to see these new vids after so long. I can only act like Phil X when I'm really drunk. You have a true gift Phil. Keep it man !!!
Taco Conch ii
This is single handily my favorite freatdamaericana video in the history of EVER
And close to 950-1,100 of them are unaccounted for (from what I've heard)
they weren't selling, because back in the day, a Les Paul cost about $400, while you could get a strat for $100.
joe shmoe at my local guitar shop in around 1986, the owner had a good three dozen bursts, done with hangtags still on. $5k was the upper end of the scale. Aside from that he had ~500 pre-cbs Strats, n Telecasters, none of which cost more than a couple thousand at best.
Ján Bakoš they weren’t that much in the states, but yes, a new Strat was $179 abouts.
chris bassani can you imagine finding one in an old attic?
Awesome video, glad he is back! I met him at Leeds on the drills last tour and what a great bloke ! So is the rest of the band,so approachable ! Great idea recording the band at the end loved it! WELCOME BACK !
Great to have you back man! And congrats on the baby!
I can't believe he's not wearing a belt.
Congrats man!! I actually cant believe how much i missed these videos... AWESOME!

It' s just SO GREAT to have you guys back!
I guess these videos are what i call "inspiration".
Awesome, keep it up!
WOW that Zep-o-rama at the end was off the chart!!
I am sooooo glad Phil is back!!!! All of us can now "FeeltheRealPHILosphy" of guitar playing!!!! I'm feel in' it! Phil rips & we all want more! Thanx to Frettedamericana again for bringing Phil back!
Nice to see you again Phil! Glad to hear that you're doing good! And with a 59' Les Paul to boot. Helluva way to return!
that is the best sounding les paul ive heard on this channel. Great Video!
Great to see you back with Fretted Americana Phil. Congratulations on the baby! Best wishes to you and your family.
I just searched through the videos to find a jazzmaster vid when you jammed to "Hey Joe" on a looper. And you were wearing the same shirt . Awesome
This guitar is a historic icon, sounds just as good as my 62 Les Paul. However it is more collectable! Beautiful demo Phil, keep rocking!
Man that thing is clean...top reminds me of Howard Leese's '60 you guys had through a while back. Thanks for the demo F.A., and congrats on the gig&kid-on-the-way to Phil!
Great to have you back Phil!
"Sounds just as good as my Epiphone Les Paul Special II" - Everyone in Gibson video demos
GIBSON LES PAUL STANDARD 1960
David Speer 51’ Nocaster checking in! Nice to meet you Paul.
No it's every poor kid in the comment section. The, 'my Epiphone is just as good as my friends Standard' guy.
This one is old and has some wear.
good to have you back with us
My first Phil X video, this dude is the fricken coolest, man! I’ve seen almost every Burst video on UA-cam and I’ve never seen someone do that to one! I mean that as a compliment🤘🏻
Welcome Back Phil!! Glad to see ya again!!

Sweet guitar! Love Phil's playing as always. The band sounded awesome!☺
this made my night, thank u phill x for coming back and thank you fretted americana for bringing him back! That guitar is amazing too. pheeeeewwwwwww
So happy your back Phil. I can't wait for more
the tonemaster sounds so small next to the friedman. that pink taco is SO nice
Isn't it 😉
friedman amps sound fat on their own, but I prefer Marshall style 'thin' sound better in context
I literally sreamed like a little girl in the 50's like she was at an elvis concert when i saw there's a new video here. no fuckin joke. glad to have you back phil :')
Welcome to Brazil Phil X. I admire your work in
frettedamericana. Love those Guitars and amps!
Thank God! You are back!

JgHaverty What does a good Les Paul sound like? What even is a good Les Paul? Peter Green owned a hallowed burst and thought very little of it.
Wowee, the sound in this video is incredible. Whatever you're doing, keep doing it.
I love that he just plays it instead of making some somber deal about it.
congrats and best of luck on your new child- a big part of being a good dad is just loving your kid and making sure
that they know it- if I had that burst I would be one happy camper
AWESOME!!!, Glad your back and great vid.. Love the end. never heard it in a studio,, you should add it to next CD.. oh and WANT THAT GUITAR!!
damn, the longest summer ever without these vids... god save Phil!
Awesome to see Phil and Fretted Americana are back just in time for the weather to start sucking! Definitely the best audio on any FA video to date, and more importantly, congrats on the kid Phil!
i know why fretted americana itself was a better place, it because its colorful, full of magic, and this place is just kinda grey and dark. thats totally it, colorfrul/bright
couldnt agree more
Great to have you back - and MUCH better scene in the background!
I know Tommy's studio was great, but the console area wasn't really a great background for your videos.
Great guitar work!
Congrats to you & Mom on little x on the way, welcome back!
oh my god seeing a new video just made my whole week!
Good to see you back.
Welcome back Phil. Awesome guitar. That Friedman sounds great and that's the best name for an amp I have ever heard
Congrats on the baby phil! Awesome as usual!
The only reason I went to Rock In Rio was to get a close chance to watch Phill X live! Rock on!
Best Phil X vid in a while! Not that the others were bad, I just really liked this one. :)
Nice work as always. That is one MEAN sounding gee-tar! Congrats on becoming a dad too. Rock!!!
Sorry for so many comments, but damn. Seriously this show is pure humanitarianism. I wonder if renting certain guitars to guys that use the studio would make more money over time than just selling them.
Great to see you back Phil.
Phil has the power to always make me wanna pick up my guitar and play... Rock on!!!
No lie, best sounding guitar vid I've heard in a while
Damn, I've missed this! Good to see you back Phil
Kick ass man. Welcome back Phil.
God bless his child, may it rock harder than it's father....
So many guitars on the background to review.
I am anticipating the future plesure. =3
I didn't know session guitarists were still used as much as they are. This guy's discography is impressive as it is diverse. What a great musician. He just rattles off song after song so god dam effortlessly. I hate you Phil X haha.

Sorry to hear about Mitzy. Loved her barks!🐶
It's SO good to have Phil back!
Congrats on the new arrival! And on your impending fatherhood too :0). Love the Pink Taco, axe and amp - God-like toanz!
Soooooooo good to see you again
Awesome LedZepp ending in this video! I wish you would do little clips at the end of all frettedamericana vids.
Thank you Phil! You made my day. You're the best!
Oh and congratulations about the baby! :)
Hey phil, i was wondering if you could show us that bend trick that you do with your left hand on the neck o the guitar, because i't just AWESOME!

Congrats on the baby Phil and sorry for the loss of your dog. Nice demo on the '59.
You are so lucky to be able to be in the presence of such a perfect '59 burst
That jam at the end with the band was f*kkin awesome!!!! The sound quality with headphones was outstanding!!!
Missed these videos!!!! And I forgot about that VH song 'cause I'm old. Congrats on the (coming soon) baby.

Hey Man it's Phil X Yeah Wooh!
Glad to see you back on here Phil. Congrats on your your imminent fatherhood. If youre ever feeling uninspired drop us a message and I'll give you a few lessons.
;-)
Great idea having the band play with Phil, love it!
Welcome back Phil ! Becoming a dad will change your life ... :) Best of luck: we've been missing you \m/
I love the figured maple top on this guitar. Beautiful!
Dan's bass tone is awsome in the end. What did he use, beside the seafoam green jazz bass?
would be great if you could tell us if you were still using the pink taco at the end jam or a different head? thanks a lot, love the videos guys
finally i've been waiting for a new episode
Welcome back Phil! Missed ya :P
Ah Mitzy. Run in heaven's fields. Great Job Phil. So happy you're back brother. So very happy. Now eat your pink taco or no dessert.
Those 59s are the stratavarious of guitars....I have owned three historic 59s and have played two real 59s....and the historics are really close to the real deal they still fall short when you play the real thing....when I played the real 59s the whole guitar would just vibrate thru your body....it was beyond this world....🎸🎸🎸
1:49 Phil is a tone chaser and he know these guitar are OVER HYPED . They do have great tone but not $400,000.00 worth .
***** People don't buy guitars like this for the sound. It's a collectible. They buy it now and the longer they have it, the more it'll be worth.
Ohiohillbilly80 Thing is, there are '59's and then there are '59s. Some are worth it, like say Pearly Gates or the Peter Green/Gary Moore/Kirk Hammet guitar. The rest are Les Pauls made between 1958-62.
It’d be more cost efficient to get one of those $15,000 remakes or a 1958 les Paul
Grats for joining the Band of Daddys. It's your or me for the lead guitar slot :-P
Do u know what speaker is being used with pink taco? Great pairing
Wow, people who didn't stick around till the ending need to go back and check SHIZZ out! That's such a cool Zep medley, great work fellas. Killed it!
OMG Phil is baaaaaaack!!!! Finally UA-cam has meaning again!
Welcome back bro!
Great to see Phil back and playing a Paul
Hey Phil, you think you could rock some Reverened Horton Heat next time? I love them and I think you could rock them out.
Man, beautiful playing, but I would love to hear some middle position and clean tone in there too. Congrats at being a new father!
Awesome! WHAT EFFECTS ARE YOU USING AT THE END.????????????
