Hey Phil, just wanted to say, never apologize for bringing up stories like that especially when they're of heartfelt situations like this. I'm sure Kara's family & loved ones definitely appreciate you honoring her memory. Even though some things can be sad, it's always good to remind ourselves to value what we have. thanks for honoring her memory!
hey guitar maniacs, there was a whole discussion re my tats 2 vids ago. Panayioti is my late father's name. the XMan symbol is for my son Xavier & the G Force from Battle Of The Planets is for my son Gage. can we resume talking about guitars now?
philx1111 Phil you rock! These videos are my weekly lessons. I have learned so much from them , the most important being to rely more on skill than effects! Thanks man!
that was a moving story about Kara -God rest her soul-no need to apologize for making us more aware that we need to cherish each day as you never know what lies ahead- that was a kickass version of R'n roll hoochie coo-brought back some great memories of seeing it done live by Rick and Mr Winter(RIP)
I watched you play Kara's guitar live at the ACC that night and it was a heart warming special moment that's for sure. I don't think there was a dry eye in the crowd that night. What an amazing show that was. You rock Phil ! Way to go !!!
phil man... so positive that a cant help but smile after after the video, and that part about kara! this guys just an all round great musician and person :)
That's why I like Phil's playin'. The origial and awesome ideas. Beautiful expression of the Message in the bottle song. Hommage to Police. My friday begins cool!
Love that John Frusciante inspired intro you had going. Totally nails that kind of Strat sound, even though it was the Police "Message" chord progression, another amazing band too!
Wow, Phil, thank you for your story from 8:18. It's sad - but in the same time very interesting and sweet story. You have done a great thing. Regards from yours and Bon Jovi fan.
Phil X that was a very honorable tribute to Kara. Beautiful guitar, amazing cover song. May I please call you Phil X Electrified, your energy is contagious. Yeeeeesssss !!! Thanks for the post and keep on Rockin.
I love Phil X Fridays!!! Thanks for sharing the story about Kara. So cool to know there are people playing the strings she left silent. What a tribute.
The drills should really do a frettedameticana sessions album! Also, i totally want to play Kara's guitar now. I already knew the story behind that guitar and i think it's a great thing that so many people are playing her guitar in her memory now!
finally a review from someone who knows how to sing on a strat! amazing review man! what i like about fenders (no matter what others say) is that it has crazy capacity in dynamics.. such a wonderful sounding instrument
Top man Phil, nice touch about Kara too, we know you don't do and say these things for the attention but because you're a genuine guy, keep rockin' fella.
(1) Tasty review of this gorgeous strat, and fascinating specs detail in the description section. (2) Jim Toris (Guitar World Mississauga) is a great guy. He reached out to me via Facebook to offer help with a fundraiser my after-school Guitar Club recently had to raise funds for guitar accessories. I only bring this up in relations to point #3... (3) Like Kara, we're all music freaks, so it's fitting you brought her up. As a teacher, I appreciate that you brought her up, because (provided Kara's guitar is still memorialized at Jim's store) you just inspired a great field trip idea. I'll give them a ring today, because I'd love my guitar club students to hear and touch Kara's story.
Great demo Phil... Nice shirt.. Great story behind the shirt... You are the man! !!!!Everyone!!!! Listen to the story about Kara.. Fast forward to 8:24 into the video... Also, love the Stevie Wonder cover..
frettedamericana Guys, if You wouldn't mind aksing, what string gauge were usually on strats when You were reviewing them back in shop? That's not a life or death matter, but I would be grateful if You would take some time to answer :)
Jonah Vanhoy Maple looks great, but on stage a maple neck has a tendency to feel really sticky (dry). I tried using all kinds of fretboard lubes and oil but finally just got rid of my maple neck guitar. Rosewood doesn't get nearly as sticky.
your neck was probably coated in whatever thing they coat it in. If you can get someone to remove the substance they put on the neck it wont be so sticky and it will feel great.
Jonah Vanhoy I don't like the look or feel of a maple neck without clear coat. They absorb the oils and look nasty. I tried using steel wool to rough up the finish a bit, and it did help a little, but the rosewood was just so superior. The clear coat is called Polyurethane.
ah thank you for telling me that :3 i do like rosewood necks but i don't like them better than maple necks. I like them both equally but the thickness of the neck is a huge thing for me since it cant be to thick since i gave smallish hands and i cant get my thumb around the neck. so guitars with maple necks like fenders just appeal to me more.
Phil, I would love to see a video about your new Framus signature guitar! I saw you playing it in the video you did with Marty Schwartz, looked prettty cool!
Hey good folk at Fretted Americana. I love the videos but I just thought I'd let you know that there is an audio video sync issue half way through the video for me. It might just be cuz I'm on mobile but I just thought I'd let you know
You know how they say tone is in your fingers? I personally feel like this is especially true for strats. Like 95% of the time I HATE how they sound. Especially when I pay them... but people like mr. X always make them sound good. I can sound good on an lp... but I just can't get the tone right on a strat. Well done once again Phil! Digging it!
Okay Phil okay you got me I'll break out the 2009 candy Cola maple fretboard small headstock Stratocaster and start playing again ! drummers fantastic, bass players freaking Aces thanks Phil !!! Ya Got me ! ( be 60 this August need a little time to get the Kinks out. Get the Kinks out that's another good idea I'm going to spin that vinyl right now)
Hey +philx111 I was wondering what technic/scale/note do you do at 11:30-31 It sounds sick and I have heard you play that sort of thing so many times Just wanted to know in terms of theory (what note do I add to the scale to get that) what it is :) Cheers Jimmi
I think it's more of the sequence. like jumping up 2 notes, going back 1 & so forth. in this case it's 7, 5, 9, 7, 11. in E like in this vid: D, B, F#, D, A
philx1111 ahhhh!! Sweet it makes sense now...I think in one solo in a particular drills song (can't remember the name off the top of my head) you also do that and then a descending run, which sounded killer something that has been stuck in my head (like a melody line) Thanks for the reply Jimmi
Never apologize for doing something amazing Phil, this is another reason you're the most bitchin guitarist to ever grace the youtubes!! Sidenote,i have a Fender American standard in Crimson metallic burst & the trans red is shot over gold instead of silver around the edges giving it the metallic effect..Also its a 1996 model & not a pre CBS...But its still a badass guitar! Diggin that Cow bass too, makes me hungry for a steak!
Hey Phil, Just wanted to say, You're a god man! Had me grOOving early this morning when you started playing I Wish. You got whicked (haha) Energy dude. Peace man!
I really think it would be cool to get a two rock for these reviews to add a good mayer clean tone to compliment the marshally crunch and drive tones :)
It would be interesting to see some less regular guitar's review. I saw a few Danelectro, Bender, Guild, a Gibson Harp guitar a few crazy Mosrites. I would be cool to see and hear them. Keep up man!
Nice touch about Kara. I'm sure it will ease the parents pain a touch knowing her guitar is appreciated and being played by so many. Also The Drills cover is banging. Top drums and Bass. Love it. What is the Bass by the way? Looks like a 51 P bass type custom job.
Is it just me... or is there anyone else thats glad to have philx Fridays back?!??!?
Todd Carpenter Not, it's me as well.
The Story about Kara was both beautiful and heart breaking. Way too young to be taken away so soon. Great review of the strat, Phil!
Agreed. I want to play her guitar now.
There are just so many great great people in these comments. The best place and use of the Internet!
A beautiful and moving story for a beautiful person. :|
Hey Phil,

Even though some things can be sad, it's always good to remind ourselves to value what we have. thanks for honoring her memory!
I LOVE YOU PHIL X and thank you for sharing the story about kara it was very kind of you to honor her memory like that as well
Don't apologize for telling Kara's story, playing the guitar at the Bon Jovi gig,was a great way to honour her memory.
I come here over and over again to listen that entrance cover. It' s touching.
The guitar, the demo and The Drills.... Class!
hey guitar maniacs, there was a whole discussion re my tats 2 vids ago. Panayioti is my late father's name. the XMan symbol is for my son Xavier & the G Force from Battle Of The Planets is for my son Gage. can we resume talking about guitars now?

Prince Zuko +philx1111 Sounds like a good idea to me too! How about it Phil?
that was a moving story about Kara -God rest her soul-no need to apologize for making us more aware that we need to cherish each day as you never know what lies ahead- that was a kickass version of R'n roll hoochie coo-brought back some great memories of seeing it done live by Rick and Mr Winter(RIP)

The condition of this guitar is too good, it's unreal! Who could resist playing such a jaw dropping instrument for 50 years?!!! Love it :-)
phil man... so positive that a cant help but smile after after the video, and that part about kara! this guys just an all round great musician and person :)
From Ohio...Rick D was always a fav of mine....nice version...your drummer is awesome...
One of the greatest songs ever written and recorded there at the end. Well done everyone! The feel and tone was beastly!
My respect for Phil grows by the day! Not just as an amazing entertainer and musician, but now also as a role model ✊
Thanks for remembering Kara and Johnny!
It was a fun watch again. Keep up the good and rocking stuff!
Always amazes me how good a tight three piece band sounds.
Great sounding Strat. Great jam at the end. Keep up the awesome work Phil and the Drills
That's why I like Phil's playin'. The origial and awesome ideas. Beautiful expression of the Message in the bottle song. Hommage to Police. My friday begins cool!
Tell more stories like that ....this is what makes the world and guitar world go around!
i love those oldschool guitar reviews !! like way back in the years !
Love that John Frusciante inspired intro you had going. Totally nails that kind of Strat sound, even though it was the Police "Message" chord progression, another amazing band too!
That was an amazing story and I'm glad you shared. Also, that Strat rocks!
Wow, Phil, thank you for your story from 8:18. It's sad - but in the same time very interesting and sweet story. You have done a great thing. Regards from yours and Bon Jovi fan.
Awesome playing, Phil is amazing and full of energy and licks as always! Fabuluos guitar!
Phil X that was a very honorable tribute to Kara. Beautiful guitar, amazing cover song. May I please call you Phil X Electrified, your energy is contagious. Yeeeeesssss !!! Thanks for the post and keep on Rockin.
Totally rad video, beautiful story Phil X smashing it as always
man, i learn SO much from just watching you play....btw everyone, i bought all the Drills EP's....do yourself a favor and do the same
I love Phil X Fridays!!! Thanks for sharing the story about Kara. So cool to know there are people playing the strings she left silent. What a tribute.
I think this is my fave of your demos, Phil - the starting jam is beautiful and then the Stevie Wonder (playing and singing) - great stuff!
The drills should really do a frettedameticana sessions album! Also, i totally want to play Kara's guitar now. I already knew the story behind that guitar and i think it's a great thing that so many people are playing her guitar in her memory now!
Saw Rick Derringer warm up for Thin Lizzy in 78. Great show. 🤘
Hands down one of the best guitar players out there!!
The bass player is SICK man!!! His Vocals were so amazing too...
The Drills are amazing! Phil X knows how to play a Stratocaster! Blaaaazinnn
Hey my Strat looks just like this one! And that's the nearest I can get to Phil's greatness.
I love them all but his demo is one of the best!
LOVE THE PLAYING WITH THE BAND! :D
finally a review from someone who knows how to sing on a strat! amazing review man!
what i like about fenders (no matter what others say) is that it has crazy capacity in dynamics.. such a wonderful sounding instrument
Should do an episode with Kara's guitar if possible.
Awesome tribute to Kara Mr X. Rock On!!
That intro was awesome I loved it!! Phil x is the man man!
Another great episode!!! Loved the tribute to Kara, great Derringer cover and Dan your "T" is Kick-Ass!!!
Top man Phil, nice touch about Kara too, we know you don't do and say these things for the attention but because you're a genuine guy, keep rockin' fella.
This has to be my second favorite color for Stratocasters, but with a maple neck. My first is Lake Placid Blue and Rosewood is my favorite.
Watched, liked, subbed. Great player with lots of loveability. One that is just true to himself
(1) Tasty review of this gorgeous strat, and fascinating specs detail in the description section.

R.I.P. Kara....
Amazing demo of the guitar....
Should make a compilation DVD, Blu Ray or whatever, of all the covers you guys did on Fretted.
Those opening riffs remind me of a Michael Schenker tune from Written in the Sand record.Pretty guitar too!
Great demo Phil... Nice shirt.. Great story behind the shirt... You are the man! !!!!Everyone!!!! Listen to the story about Kara.. Fast forward to 8:24 into the video... Also, love the Stevie Wonder cover..
I'm glad u Did tell us about Kara's history. Very cool thing u did.
Congratulations

That strat and that tone master -what a tone! Sounded awesome. As ever phil - awesome playing!
Love that colour. I think an all maple neck would really suit and make the red pop a lot more.
Dan Allnatt Exactly! I prefer all maple necks on solid color guitars myself :) its just looks more visually appealing to me.
Jonah Vanhoy Maple looks great, but on stage a maple neck has a tendency to feel really sticky (dry). I tried using all kinds of fretboard lubes and oil but finally just got rid of my maple neck guitar. Rosewood doesn't get nearly as sticky.

this guitar is freaking awesome
Probably the best Drills cover ever!
Awesome job on this song. Drum fill at 14:56...kicked ass!
Phil, I would love to see a video about your new Framus signature guitar! I saw you playing it in the video you did with Marty Schwartz, looked prettty cool!
That guitar is almost identical to mine, except it's 49/48 years older than mine. :)
wow thats a really unique sounding strat
The intro song by the Drills is amazing! I checked and it's nowhere to be found on the 3 releases so far, hey Phil what are you saving that one for???
Hey good folk at Fretted Americana. I love the videos but I just thought I'd let you know that there is an audio video sync issue half way through the video for me. It might just be cuz I'm on mobile but I just thought I'd let you know

This is the Coolest one I've watched.
That Guitar sounds Sweet!!!
What is the intro/outro music and where from ... really rocks!
Phil is the best!!! For some reason I cant get into single coils distorted
No need for apologies re: playing Karas' guitar. Nice Strat, awsome playing. Good on ya Phil.
Random question, but what's your guys's favorite pickup position and why?
Okay Phil okay you got me I'll break out the 2009 candy Cola maple fretboard small headstock Stratocaster and start playing again ! drummers fantastic, bass players freaking Aces thanks Phil !!! Ya Got me !

This would have been great for Can't Stop. Need to brush up on some RHCP for the next Strat, Phlex!

mid+bridge in this sounds godly!
Send my message to to Phil: If you come to Finland Please test my strat! it got p90 sounding single coils!!! I love your style and attitude!
Playing Kara's Guitar , is the Canadian thing to do. Right on Phil.
All things considered (and mentioned), once you were in the Friedman, that Strat was practically begging for some Trower licks.
Is it me or is that guitar's middle pick guard ply candy apple red?
By the way that was an awesome story. You should tell more stories like that. ❤😮
Rick Derringer had an identical candy apple red Start on the cover of the Rock & Roll Hoochie Koo LP :)
\m/
A heart was on his head 2:00
Lol yeah there was
Hey Phil, Just wanted to say, You're a god man! Had me grOOving early this morning when you started playing I Wish. You got whicked (haha) Energy dude. Peace man!

Good stuff! Loved it !
cool playing, nice to see a greek tattoo thats not misspelled
i want to know the story behind the tattoos...
nice video and great solo at the start!
HE'S BAAAACK!!
I really think it would be cool to get a two rock for these reviews to add a good mayer clean tone to compliment the marshally crunch and drive tones :)
Hi Phil X you are a great player. How many hours or days do you practice in a week? Thank you Awesome Stratocaster!!
What's the drills song at the beginning??
What's that Stevie Wonder song called at 5:00 ?
DerEchteBold "I Wish".
ocean4315 Great, thanks!
