- If you're dealing with weeds in your warm and cool season grass this spring, this video is for you. We'll show 2 awesome herbicide combinations to help get your lawn weed free.
For warm season grass like Bermuda, Zoysia, and St. Augustine, we'll cover the Celsius and Certainty herbicide. This is a potent combo that's safe for all warm season grass other than Bahia. Celsius and Certainty kills crabgrass, spurge, nutsedge, kyllinga, and many other annoying lawn weeds.
For cool season grass like Ryegrass, Fescue, and Kentucky Bluegrass, we'll cover Tenacity and Sedgehammer. This combination kills crabgrass, spurge, nutsedge, poa annua, and much more.
The weeds will stop growing within 48 hours of application and within 14 days you should see them turn yellow as they start dying off. For stubborn weeds like crabgrass, a follow-up application can be done 2 - 4 weeks later if needed.

Thank you!!! 👍🏾
What should I use for weeds that pop through my dwarf mondo grass bed? I did a weak vinegar/salt combo and it did more harm than good.
Awesome video Ron, as always you are the guiding light on this subject. Have a great 2023 season.
Glad it was helpful Ogsan1. I appreciate you watching the content.
Thanks Ron!!
You are very welcome Timothy. Thank you for watching.
You are my Lawn Doctor! 🌾🌱☝🏾❤️
Wow, thanks
I'm watching now. Thanks, Ron. Bought Certainty last week and applied it Saturday. Also, I just ordered Celsius, waiting for it to come in. Thanks again for all the advice.
Very welcome Shawn. Appreciate the support. Let me know if I can help with anything else.
Great info...thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
Thanks!
Thanks so much Fred!!! I appreciate it. 🙏
Nice job Ron. Very timely! I just put down some Certainty about 10 days ago for my KBG problem in my Bermuda. Probably gonna need a second app since this lawn has been neglected for so long…
Glad you found it useful Bill. A second application with surfactant should do the trick. Thanks for watching sir.
Great information
Glad it was helpful!
Awesome job 👍🏾 just sent this video to my neighbors ✌🏾😄
Awesome thank you Darrell!
Shots, fired! 😂. Are you guys still neighbors?
Good job thanks much
Thank you for watching.
Im ready for spring, Ron. I did my scalping of my bermuda as well.
Very cool. You should see a quicker green up than the neighboring lawns. Thanks for watching.
@@RonHenry no problem, Ron. Any fertilizer you recommend for April? I know you are not supposed to go hard on the nitrogen when bermuda is just waking up from being dormant.
@@AlexB-bb5mm I'd go with the Stress 12-0-24. It's a high potassium fertilizer with slower release nitrogen. It's what I'd start the season with. golfcourselawn.store/products/lebanon-country-club-stress-12-0-24-fertilizer Hope this helps.
@@RonHenry thank you so much.

Do you add the dye in with tenacity and the hi yield sticker all at once? Thank you so much Ron- so helpful. Looking forward to the season. Don’t have much lawn but what little I have I want it to be golf course pristine 😊
Yes Daniel. You can mix them all together at once. Hope this helps. It sounds like you are well on your way sir. Let me know if I can help with anything else. Appreciate you watching.
Hi Ron. Thanks for another great video. I plan on spraying the poa I have with certainty and surfactant I purchased yesterday. However, I was going to combine it with prodiamine 65 WDG. Should I purchase Celcius and combine it with that instead of the prodiamine? Thank you.
Hi Lou. If the only weed you’re concerned about is Poa, then Certainty should be all you need. If you mix it with prodiamine, be sure to give it a day after application before watering in the pre-emergent. Best results come from applying it separately with surfactant and a foliar tip. Hope this helps.
Another great video, Ron. Can I use these treatments on Bermuda that was put down last November?
Yes you can Bobby
Some say to mix certainty with your spring pre-emergent
You can Dennis. That said, you will get a better result if you mix it with surfactant and apply it using a foliar application tip.
Hello Ron. Love your videos!
I live in North TX. What weed killer should I use this time of year to get rid of crabgrass?
Depends on what kind of grass you have. If your lawn is Bermudagrass, Kentucky Bluegrass, Buffalograss, Tall Fescue, Ryegrass or Zoysia, this is what you'll want to use: golfcourselawn.store/products/quinclorac-75-df-herbicide-crabgrass-control
Thanks @RonHenry. Can I add image to the mix for warm-season lawn (Bermuda)?
I wouldn’t.
Great video Ron. Any advice on Quack grass in georgia bermuda grass?
Certainty with surfactant will do it. Can get here: golfcourselawn.store/collections/lawn-weed-killers
I'm a newbie, got bunch of weeds grassy and broadleaf; frankly love the advice but I'm on a budget and can't afford all that, so going with regular speedzone 2, 4D mixed with weedstop or something like that. Wish me luck lol
Good luck!
Hello Mr. Henry, I have tall fescue grass (cool season?) live in Virginia and have been working hard on my lawn to rid the weeds and have real grass. It's currently in the upper 90s and heat index of a 105°+ I'm currently fighting nutsedge foxtail, dallas, crab grass and a few others I forgot the name of but my yard is about 80% under control. Do you have any advice on a good product that will work in my lawn to rid these pesky weeds. Any help would be appreciated. P.s. I used the caravan g for brown spot and grubs. The lawn is looking amazing, thanks for showing me that you're awesome. Keep up the great videos.
With those temperatures, you're likely going to get a bit of injury regardless of the herbicide you spray. I would spot spray with this: golfcourselawn.store/products/tenacity-herbicide Realize that you *will get temporary discoloration of the surrounding grass though. Given the higher temperatures, feed your lawn with this fertilizer: golfcourselawn.store/products/lebanon-country-club-stress-12-0-24-fertilizer
Great video, I watched your video for spot killing with certainty / Celcius combo. I am looking to make this mixture to kill mostly nutsedge and crab grass (random few others) but broadcast it across a 2000 square foot bermuda lawn instead of spot treat like you did. I have a 4 gallon or 2 gallon sprayer. How much water / products would you mix to achieve this. Thanks for your help in advance.
If it were me, I would mix .226 of Celsius with 2 gallons of water and 1 large scoop of Certainty. That will cover 2000 square feet. I would also use surfactant with it. Can get it all here: golfcourselawn.store/collections/lawn-weed-killers
I have a silly question but I am new taking care of a lawn, I love your videos btw. I sprayed mu yard 5 weeks ago que image, most of the weeds are now yellow or brown, should I pulled them out or leave ir there and eventually will disappear after mowing few times?
I would just mow over them Juanly. It sounds like they're dying off.
Ron, Great channel, I am a new home owner and the lawn was sodded in Jan.
I have a Poannua all over the lawn and will be hitting it with Celsius and Certainty.
Can I do Proadamine in May to have a weed barrier or it’s pointless now? I guess I missed the pre emergent window.
Hi 7sandysandy. You can still apply it but won't get the benefit you would had it been applied 2 months ago. Certainty is a great choice if you're looking to clean up Poa.
👍💯💯💯
Appreciate it Higgie.
Hey Ron, great info and thanks for putting this together. I'd like to know if there would be any benefit to substituting Certainty with SedgeHammer +, while still mixing with Celcius for bermuda and st augustine yards in N TX. Would SH + do any better? Thanks!
If you have warm season grass, Certainty is the way to go. Controls more weeds and works faster. I would only use Sedgehammer on cool season grass.
@@RonHenry Amazing response time, thanks! And thank you for the answer...I'll stick with the Certainty. Will get in an order shortly.
I use to think Ron was the dude from tru green commercial...
😂
So envious that in the UK we don’t have any approved treatment for Poa
Chemicals such as Certainty are not available to the UK market due to regulations
We have to live with it in our lawns or hand weed out 😢
It might happen one day Shazia. Maybe. Possibly.
Hey Ron, great video! I am wondering about the shelf life of Certainty + Celsius. I only have a 2500sq ft lawn so these would last about 30 applications for me. Even if I spray twice a year, that's 15 years' worth of herbicide. Will these even still be effective after so long? Thanks!
Shelf life is 3 - 5 years depending on how they’re stored Tony. There are smaller packets of Celsius that’s a great fit for your lawn size. golfcourselawn.store/products/celsius-wg-broadleaf-and-grassy-weed-control-for-warm-season-turf?ToPasteboard
Appreciate the info, Ron. I have a Bermuda lawn with a ton of dallis grass (among many). Is there anything besides MSMA that will kill it and is there a pre emergent that will keep it from coming up? It's the bane of my existence! Thank you sir.
You best bet is to dig it out JDHeart. There aren’t a lot of great options for residential lawns.
@@RonHenry I was afraid you were going to say that 😭. That's what I've been doing but it's so hard to keep up with. Thanks
Hi Ron. What product should I use if I do not own a backpack sprayer or pump? I have mainly dandelion, clover, and some poa. Is there a granular product that would work just as well?
Hi Keith. If all you're going to be doing is a bit of spot spraying, pick up a small 2 gallon sprayer like this: amzn.to/3SqYuqm
For the weeds you described, I'd go with Certainty and Celsius. Can get both here: golfcourselawn.store/collections/lawn-weed-killers
Hi Ron. I have the Scott’s 2 gallon battery sprayer. Do you know of any way to retrofit the wand I think it’s a proprietary part to Scott’s but gotta be a way!!!! Thank you
Hi Love2Weld. Before you go replacing the wand, I'd check to see if the spray nozzle isn't interchangeable. On most sprayers, the end cap can be removed to swap the spray nozzle.
Should I level my yard with dirt first then apply or apply then level? South Texas Bermuda grass.
Depends on how bumpy it is. You may be able to go straight with top dressing.
Could I add tenacity to the mix on my centipede grass. I finally have a day off in the week so I’ve had multiple bouts of neglect on my lawn last few years and it killed me. Now that I have time I can now nurture it.
Yes you could, but if the weeds you're targeting are already covered by Celsius and Certainty, it may not be necessary.
Do you have any recommendations for places to get a used greens mower in North Ga?
Jerry Pate Company, Craigslist or any of the other online marketplaces. Should be able to find a good unit that way.
I am going to try the certainty celsius combo this year. Question i was planning on putting down some granular prodiamine soon. Will I still be ok with using both around the same time?
Yep! You're good to go to use them around the same time. Could do it on the same day if you wanted. They work differently so it's not like you'd be overdoing it by using a post-emergent to control existing weeds on the same day as your pre-emergent. Thanks for watching.
Great video thanks! Can Certainty be swapped out with Negate for bermuda? I bought a bottle of that stuff last year and on my .15 acre lawn it’s basically a lifetime supply!
Hi Patrick. You can use Negate if all you care about is Poa.
In comparison, Certainty kills Poa, Kyllinga, sedges, and more. It controls a much broader range of weeds compared to Negate and is easier to accurately mix in small amounts for spot spraying. Hope this helps.
@@RonHenry it does thank you. Really wish I had stumbled across your videos first!
@@beesoffury Anytime Patrick. Happy to have you as a viewer. 🙂
Hi, Ron! For low rate, how many times can I spray my bermuda lawn this year (how often?) temperatures right now are around 70s-80s in central cal. What's the best time to spray?
Thanks in advance.
You shouldn't need to more than a couple times. Celsius and Certainty do a good job cleaning up weeds if applied correctlty.
@@RonHenry ok. I understand but how many is a "couple times"?
About the best time to spray, say it's summer and over 90-100 can I still spray early morning when temp is 70? Thank you.
Ron could I use SpeedZone along with Certainty on Warm season grass (Bermuda)?
You could but I wouldn't Jason. Speedzone is a good herbicide but it's also harder on the turf than Certainty and Celsius. You should be covered with just those 2.
I am in South Florida and have Bahia grass. Weeds, grubs, gophers, and mole have taken over my yard. What would be your recommendations to get my lawn back in shape?
I would use herbicide to clean up the weeds and an insecticide to reduce the food source so the moles will move elsewhere.

Ron is prodimine gradual good for all weeds in Bermuda? Or do I need to add another pre emergent with it for my Bermuda lawn for the spring
Hi Ronald. It prevent most common weeds in Bermuda lawns other than sedges. I would not add anything else. Prodiamine and regular mowing is enough.
Any good products I can use on Dallas and crabgrass in zoysia and Bermuda lawns
Your best bet is to dig out Dallisgrass. There isn't a product labeled for residential use for Dallisgrass. For crabgrass you can use Celsius or Quinclorac. Celsius is a safer option this time of year but it may take more than one application. golfcourselawn.store/products/celsius-wg-broadleaf-and-grassy-weed-control-for-warm-season-turf
I have a question, it probably doesn't apply to many but I bet there's a few of us that would like to know. The products you mentioned, how effective would they be if mixed in a pull behind sprayer? We have over 50,000 square feet of lawn, there's a lot of burmuta grass, native, and we're trying to get the clover, a little dandelion, some Poa ( we're going to use a pre-emergent this year) some surge and a few other broad leave weeds in it. We're using flagship 24-0-6 and it's over 3 bags in the pull behind spreader and it seams to be working great, maybe there's something better on those lines, that's just what was recommended by the grass guys he across the road.
Hi Shane. Celsius and Certainty will work in a pull behind sprayer. 10 oz Celsius treats up to 2 acres while Certainty treats 1 acre when targeting Poa. Celsius and Certainty will take care of broadleaf weeds, sedges and Poa. Native grasses can be tough. You may need something like Revolver for those. Just depends on what you're trying to control.
Celsius and Certainty: golfcourselawn.store/collections/lawn-weed-killers
Revolver: ron-henry.com/revolver
For fertilizers, I like Humic Max 16-0-8 over Flagship but that's really more of a preference thing. golfcourselawn.store/products/country-club-16-0-8-humic-max-and-mesa%C2%AE-by-lebanonturf-sgn-150
Hope this helps.
@@RonHenry thanks, I really appreciate that. I will look into the revolver I've never heard of it. We're just getting started and reforming the area here, we have a ranch and we raise and train bucking bulls. we've been working on the bull enclosures and pins for the last few years and now it's yard time. I think I'm going to try the Celsius stuff first then see how the pre-emergent does for next year. If I need the Certenty stuff I'll get it next spring. Poa isn't really that big of a problem and the native heavy grass is pretty getting choked out by the burmuta. What's left is easily dug up and refilled.
Ron, do you have advise or a video for Florida Bahia grass?
Depends on which weeds you're looking to target. Certainty can be used on Bahia. Celsius cannot.
@@RonHenry Good to know. Thanks! And as far as weeds, it it exists, I have it in my yard ;)
Ron, I downloaded an App on my iPhone and it is telling me what I thought (and was told) was Bahai grass is Buffalo Grass? I’ve never heard of Buffalo Grass until now.
What do you think of 2,4-D Amine Selective as weed killer?
It’s ok. I prefer Celsius though. Easier on the grass. Can use Ivey broader range
hi what's your opinion on atrazine? just as good as tenacity?
Good for centipede and st. Augustine. Not as good as Tenacity.
Will either of these get rid of mimosa pudica (sleeping grass)?
This contains Dicamba which should take care of that weed: golfcourselawn.store/products/celsius-wg-broadleaf-and-grassy-weed-control-for-warm-season-turf
Just purchased for Bermuda. Should I cut the lawn first then apply?
You don’t have to mow it first. After application don’t mow for 2 days though.
When spraying this combo, should I try to only target the weeds or is it safe to spray over the lawn in areas the weeds are really spreading?
If needed you can blanket spray Celsius and Certainty.
How do i get rid of and and prevent common bermuda that is overtaking my hybrid bermuda?
I don't know of a way to selectively remove common Bermuda from Hybrid. Wish I had better news.
The Celsius label says not to use surfactant when temperatures are above 90. Does that mean I can use surfactant if I spray in the morning when it's 80 and will get above 90 later in the day?
If you’re spot spraying, yes. In this video, temperatures were in the mid 90s on the day I sprayed. I was spot spraying though. ua-cam.com/video/0wxW3zXrvX8/v-deo.html
Does Certainty work against crabgrass? I'm in GA so if not could you recommend a 3rd product to throw in the mix?
It works against young crabgrass. This time of year, I'd add quinclorac: ron-henry.com/quincloracdf

@@RonHenry I see a lot of crabgrass and the one product you linked doesn't seem like it kills its? i appreciate the quick response!
@@Mexi99 If all you care about is crabgrass then go with Quinclorac. ron-henry.com/quincloracdf Don't use on St. Augustine or Centipede grass.
Hey there, wanted to ask you about Celsius and Certainty, do they have a temp restriction? Can this be applied in the summer time? I am sure it is on the label and I am just being lazy here, feel free to ignore my question but wanted to get your take on it.
Yes they can Alex. That a big reason why I'm such a fan of this combination. They can be applied as temperatures get higher with far less chance of injury to the grass than other herbicides.
@@RonHenry thank you!!!! Trying it out this year, 2 4D is inconsistent.
Anytime
Ron - I just came across your channel and am in need of assistance. I am new to lawn care, my late husband had an array of herbicides and I am unsure what to use. I live in Hawaii and my grass is zoysia. I have the following herbicides: Speedzone, tenacity, spurge power, sedgehammer, and celsius. I have a 4 gallon sprayer and a broadcast spreader. I am willing to purchase whatever is needed and would appreciate guidance on applying both pre and post emergent herbicide to address both grassy and broadleaf weeds.

Will this combination kill weeds such as purple deadnettle?
For deadnettle, use a herbicide like speedzone: ron-henry.com/speedzone
How early can I use tenacity, i live in the mid west
As long there's not snow on the ground and it's not freezing outside, you can use it. Keep in mind that it works slower when temperatures are cooler. Be sure to use surfactant with it for best results.
What would kill stickers? We had a severe drought last year in South East Louisiana .My yard was Bahia grass. Looks like the drought killed most of the Bahia and all there is now is stickers.
Celsius will control them but you can't spray that on Bahia grass. Are you planning on replacing the lawn with some other warm season grass like Bermuda or Zoysia? golfcourselawn.store/products/celsius-wg-broadleaf-and-grassy-weed-control-for-warm-season-turf
No because of the hot dry summers we have. Celsius, do I need a herbicide license? I may kill off everything and replace with a drought tolerant grass.@@RonHenry
Did you say the Certainty can be used for Poa and spurge for zoysia? Can Certainty and Celsius be sprayed together? The prices for the Certainty and Celsius in the provided link is much cheaper than my local Site One.

Why tenacity cannot be applied to warm season lawn?
