Incubus has a strong catalogue, and they are grossly underrated
I never really liked them much. Then I had some strong edibles (for the first time) and listened to their music for hours and was blown away. Their lesser known stuff is amazing. Some songs aren’t necessarily easy to listen to at first, there’s a lot of complexity.
I agree, a great catalogue and the music that didn't become singles are just as good or better.
Hoping they get deeper than the radio stuff
yeah, they are a great band. No one really sounds like Incubus, but they do have their following...early /mid 90s was great time in music...so many different sounds

@@jpace4608 yeah I like most of "Make Yourself" as well but after that I agree with you. should check out their album and EP before SCIENCE, "Fungus Amongus" and "Enjoy Incubus". Way more funky, lots of Mr. Bungle vibes.
Deep Inside is my favorite. Not just off that album, but any of their albums.
Agreed. SCIENCE was sooooooooo dope.
They have a crazy good catalog with a lot of different styles. Something like Drive or Wish You Were Here that got crazy radio play are good follow ups to this, but some of their older tracks like Certain Shade of Green or Redefine or New Skin sound like a totally different band. And then jump forward to something like Pistola or Adolescents and it's another totally different sound.
Worth exploring all kinds of music from them, hopefully people enjoy and give this reaction some love to get more Incubus into your life!

One of their early songs that sounds way different than the rest of their music is "you will be a hot dancer" its definitely one the odder side of their music, but still pretty awesome
S.C.I.E.N.C.E. is amazing. I love a majority of their music (I have everything from Fungus Amongus through 8) too but I feel their most underrated album is If Not Now, When? In The Company of Wolves is just haunting

Incubus was my 1st concert they opened for 311 touring this album good times
My second concert but yea I saw them open for 311 as well. Make Yourself had just come out and I bought the album the next day based on hearing them play only 3 songs.
That was a great fuckin' tour.
I was fortunate enough to see them play a show with the Deftones about 4 years ago. What a freaking awesome night of music that was
Funny enough I saw them play with Deftones and Taproot at the Tower Theatre in 2000.
@@reinofkaos dude that's awesome. I love the camaraderie and friendship that those two had together for so long and still do. My show was down here in San Diego at the Chula Vista Amphitheatre Deftones opened up with diamond eyes, it was a freaking amazing
I saw them with Deftones like, 20 years ago at Mercer Arena in Seattle. Along with Taproot.

Incubus is a strong group. The list is fairly long of great tunes: Drive, Stellar, Warning, Dig, Anna Molly, Megalomanic, Nice to Meet You, Wish You We’re Here. And on and on! Actually this is from the early 2000s

Lex, most of the band members are surfers, so your comment about the songs buoyancy like the ocean swelling is spot on. In some of their videos, are actual clips of them surfing . ✌🏼

My favorite song from them is *Aqueous Transmission.* Its got a beautiful flow... not a "brain scramble." 🤣 All of their albums were great.

Incubus has some of my favorite songs ever made. I STILL listen to incubus in the car regularly. It’s just a band that I will personally never be tired of
I go back and listen to Science and fungus at least once a month while Im working. Never gets old
I still listen to them regularly as well. One of their songs they came out with about 2 years ago is just as great as the others. Always have been and will be amazing.
Have to echo what others have said "Drive" and "Wish you were here" are solid tracks. Also "Warning" and "Summer Romance". They all sound a bit different stylistically.
Please check out their older stuff from their album S.C.I.E.N.C.E, when they were rlly nu metal, yall would dig 'Redefine' 'Vitamin' 'new skin' that whole album is amazing, 90s gem

When he says “Rise above the flames” I always took it as being like a Phoenix. They die in flames and are born again in the ashes. So I think the song is about changing yourself for the better and becoming a better person.
"Drive", "I Wish You Were Here", "Anna Molly" and "Megalomaniac" are all good.

Killer tune! Amazing band. The whole Make Yourself album is amazing. My wife and I were fortunate enough to see them live in Toronto, Ontario in late 2019 before the plague.
I said it 15 years ago and i still stand by what i said: Mike Einziger is an absolute fucking genius when it comes to incorporating effects into his guitar playing. Almost like he knows precisely how to use them to get the perfect sound

The last time I saw them live, this was the encore, wall of flames on the backdrop, and it started raining.
@@reanimated Nice! They never played this song when I saw them live. I saw them with Linkin Park at Jones Beach and it rained and thunderstormed over the water in the background and they just kept playing.
My band opened for them one time. The guys are so nice and pleasant. Just THE reason to love them.

Incubus was one of the most seamless and sophisticated mergers of "rap/hip-hop" and rock into one sound. It doesn't sound like a mish-mash, it's one coherent whole.

Great reaction to one of my favourite bands of all time. I first saw them play Live back in 1997 over here in England, they were supporting Korn at the time. I'd never heard of them before but became an instant fan. Ironically I'm no longer a big fan of Korn, but without them I would never have discovered Incubus.
I'd describe the kind of vocals he's doing during the verses as old-skool funk, over a break-beat/drum n' bass/jungle beat...Kind of. At least that's what my old ears hear, lol. In some ways his vocals during that time reminded me a bit of Jay-Kay from Jamiroquai

Water bed -- I love it! I think Brandon Boyd (the lead singer/writer) would LOVE to hear that descriptor. He is very artistic and a very deep thinker, and I think would be thrilled with your interpretation.

Thanks for the walk down memory lane! I always interpreted this song as kind of feeling like the world around you is letting you down, and you kind of want off the ride. Not in a dark way so much. More like, escape in a rocket ship before the world chips away at your soul kind of way.
Man I hope you guys do some more Incubus, they were my favorite band in college. I'd be curious to see what you think of some of the songs on Morning View because at first when I listened to that album I didn't really care for it, but as I progressed through a few more listens I quickly grew to love it, Morning View is my favorite album from Incubus today. My wife and I actually had the song Echo playing when we walked down the aisle at our wedding, super chill song. I'd also recommend Aqueous Transmission, one of their most chill songs.

Incubus is totally underrated and Brandon is an amazing vocalist. So many great, and different, songs. Try Dig or Love Hurts for a different song style. You will not be disappointed!
My cousin who is a musical genius *literally* introduced me to incubus around 11 years ago and ever since, they’ve been that band to me who sticks out very far away from typical sounds, in the best way. Amazing band i feel has been overlooked

Great reaction you guys, and Lex- your comparisons to water and waves are way more spot-on than you realize! These guys were my classmates through middle and high school, and the singer Brandon Boyd was(is?) a surfer...maybe other members, too-but Brandon was definitely part of a family surfing tradition. And that sort of disjointedness interspersed with flow...that was just kinda what it was like growing up where we did. We lived on the outskirts of L.A. county, where we had a lot of connection with the mountains and the ocean, but were also always under the shadow of the greed and fakery and elitism and sleaziness of L.A. and Hollywood. Brandon, Mike, and Jose (sorry to leave one out-they were just the ones I knew!) were some of the more sincere and down-to-earth people within the weird landscape we grew up in (and yes, it was enough to make your head explode at times!). It's no wonder that they went on to create really unusual conflicted-sounding music, but they did it in such an original and authentic, brilliant way.
(P.S. We grew up in/around Calabasas and Malibu Canyon, CA. At the time, it was kinda rural, and middle-class people could still afford to live there, but before long it became completely taken over by the worst kind of celebrities. I'm ashamed now to say where I'm from. Incubus is perhaps the only source of "hometown pride" I have left!)

There are many songs I've had to listen to more than five times before I started to understand and like them. Sometimes they go on to be my favorite song for a while. This happened more when we had cassette tapes and we were forced to listen through songs to get to our favorite ones.
Every one of their albums vibes different. It's a good journey to go down.
I wish you would look into a few deeper cuts from bands. My friend’s favorite band is incubus. I’d heard a lot of their hits, and I was confused when he told me that incubus is his favorite. He then showed me songs from their album S.C.I.E.N.C.E. and I got a much better idea of why he loves them so much. While hits are good, especially for introducing someone to a band, to REALLY get a feel for a group, some deeper cuts are essential.

I graduated in 2000 I saw them on Holloween "98 on the Family Values then in 00" with the Deftones. Amazing time in music and in time to be alive especially at that age.

I saw Incubus when Science was brand new back in…99 I believe. They were touring with Godsmack and Grinspoon. Godsmack had also just put out thier first record at that time. Both bands were kind of unknown at that point. I saw them in Detroit at St. Andrews Hall. What a show!
