I've seen Incubus probably 7-8 times, and actually hung out with them backstage in '01. Unfortunately, I feel they'll really lost their way after A Crow Left Of The Murder.

Heard Incubus for the first time when they opened for Primus just before this album dropped. I was blown away, best opening act I have ever seen. This track still gets me every time, love it.
I can relate, this album and Morning View were so meaningful to me throughout my late teens/early twenties... all the memories and angst of those “growing up” years is brought back through this music. Never fails to amaze me that music has the power to feel so personal and yet so unifying through the shared experiences of others.
S.C.I.E.N.C.E and morning view are their best albums in my opinion. Different ends of the spectrum but very well done. Fungus amongus was alright, Make yourself was kind of trying to fit a square peg into a round hole catering to the skateboarding kids, a crow left of the murder was meh and light grenades was non climatic for me although somewhat catchy. Some people don’t realize that because their biggest songs are usually straight forward pop rock songs, but they came up as pretty much brother bands with Deftones and System of a Down. Those guys all came up together. Incubus touches on rock, pop, metal, jazz, prog, electronic, and even Chinese Traditional music! Their guitarist went to Harvard to study music theory and has worked extensively with Hans Zimmer on movie scores. Check out Sick Sad Little World. If you want something really wild, check out their prog epic they made for the Halo soundtrack. It’s 4 different movements of Mike being an absolute creative wizard with the guitar.
They were my teenage band and got me into eclectic music. Then I graduated onto Mr Bungle, Faith No More etc which totally influenced Incubus. Now I'm into Ween, Talking Heads and Primus. The list goes on.
They’re volume swells that einsinger does, so everything’s on guitar. So much talent. Sick dad little world, a lot of the background stuff is the dj too when they play live at least. And of course Mike E, absolute beast
Make Yourself was one of the biggest sonic influences I had as an adolescent. It blew open the doors to multiple genres that I had never encountered growing up in a Country/Christian music household. Will forever cherish this album.
“Summer Romance (Anti Gravity song) is one of my favorite Incubus songs. Jazzy, rocky, a little bit of everything . Jose Pasillas is in my top 3 of drummers❤️💜
Beyond being one of the best mixes Ive ever heard on a song, that band will be heard for the next 50+ years, and every generation that hears them will say they were COMPLETELY underrated!!! Incubus was the band we didn't deserve.
Mike einziger The guitarist is largely underrated that man makes some awesome ambient sounds like the ones you hear in the background on this track. It's cool because on some songs he works with the DJs samples on his guitar with the plethora of effects pedals he uses and allows the bass guitar and drums to take center stage..to me that makes him coming back in with the heavy riffs just that much more hard hitting💪
You've gotta give "A certain shade of green" a listen, also, the singer, Brandon Boyd, is in my opinion a massively underrated singer. You hear it a lot more in some of the newer things but he's really got a solid, solid voice.

I'm so glad you're getting to Incubus. My suggestions for next songs to cover not in any order. Sick sad little world (alive at red rocks version), Pendulous Threads, Aqueous Transmission, and the 3 different versions of their song Redefine. (Original, acoustic, and the rendition by their side project Time Lapse Consortium - this one song shows their progression as musicians through out these versions.)
A recommendation for a follow up would be "Dig" by Incubus, but you would also need to have the lyrics. His voice and the emotion of the song based on the lyrics are just incredible. Love the channel, keep it going!
Please do more from these guys! They're my absolute favorite band and their catalog is massive! Their sound evolves with each album and I HIGHLY recommend you check out the warmth from make yourself and megalomaniac from the album a crow left of the murder.
The Guitarist, Mike Einziger, has pedals he's swelling in and out during the verses. He get's crazy inventive with his pedals (he has a whole pedal array he calls the "Gonkulator") DJ Killmore does more scratching in this song, but he does do loops in some songs and also plays the keyboard. This album in particular, the snare sound just has SO much attack, and the immediate airi-ness to it.. I LOVE the snare sound in this album.
No matter what style of music they are performing it's done with thought, care, and passion. Love every album (8 is a little weak but still great!) Truly one of the great bands during this generation

I love their stuff. Mike Einzinger's guitar work is incredible. There's a reason Incubus is one of the only 90s alternative bands anybody still likes. You should check out Jose Pasillas's drum clinic where he plays over a live recording of Sick Sad Little World.
So funny, I recently started re-listening to Incubus in the last few weeks. They were a huge part of my junior high days, funny how Geebz just happened to get into them now :)
I'm a little late to the party, but I feel I need to share this. Incubus was involved in the "Halo 2" videogame soundtrack. They did around four instrumental compositions I think. It will blow your mind lol. Also the literal best live recording I have ever watched is "Incubus: Alive At Red Rocks 2004"
These guys were in their early twenties when this came out. In some of their early tracks you can tell they multi-tracked live, not bothering to remove some artistic bleed. Definitely worth checking out tracks like; Calgone, Nebula, While all the Vultures Feed, Quicksand, Sick Sad Little World, Pistola, Makeout Party, and the Odyssey collection. Their DVD from Red Rocks Colorado, 2004 is one of the coolest live shows I've seen. I'm also a big fan so maybe bias.
The swells you are hearing are actually Mike the guitar player moving volume control up and down on the guitar after strumming with effects on the guitar.
Please do more Incubus. They are one of the most unique bands of their Era where every album they evolve but still retain an authenticity of who they are throughout. The album Morning View is a top 5 desert island album. Right up there with Led Zeppelin IV, Allman Bros at Fillmore east, Dark Side of the Moon, and Metallica S&M
Love Incubus, great breakdown - Brandon Boyd is a fantastic vocalist, love his voice. Also, I'll bring up TESSERACT since you've not done them for a while, please react to TESSERACT FEAT. MARTIN GRECH - HEXES (LIVE IN STUDIO). It is so, so good! Can't wait for you to check it out. Have a nice day!
Frank NIT uses turntables on almost everything. He uses them the same way they used to use tape to do musique concrete but uses keyboards now a lot more than he did originally in the band
Pardon me while I burst into fangirling mode! I was just in High School when their first album S.C.I.E.N.C.E. came out and me & my friends were immediately addicted! We ended up seeing them live at the Metro in Chicago, it was their first tour ever and you could tell.. Not music wise because they killed it but by how they acted. Their lead singer was absolutely blown away at the reception they got and kept telling the crowd how appreciative they all were. I was standing literally 5 feet away from them, I think they played with System of a Down that night, those were the daysss.. And back then, we were all convinced they would blow up because of their song Summer Romance and they eventually did! To be honest, after they reached commercial success, after their second album their music didn't feel the same to me anymore. Maybe it's just me, but I don't think it is, after SCIENCE they weren't the same band anymore! So I suggest and plead that you go back and listen to their first album and break it down because to me it's a masterpiece and they never came close to that album again as far as I'm concerned! But please listen to songs like Redefine, Vitamin, New Skin & Idiot Box! Hell, listen to the entire album loud and tell me I'm not right about everything I've said sofar! I remember driving around, blasting this album pretty much nonstop! I highly recommend it, to this day, this album is in my top 10 of all time! So please please please go and listen to SCIENCE next! 🙏 PS. NEBULA, Deep Inside & Calgone are the songs that demonstrate their variety & potential! Don't get me wrong, I'm so happy for their success, it feels like my own child making it big! I just dreamed even bigger for them I guess and feel like they never reached their true potential as a band for whatever reason. My joke was always that after that album, they got ABDUCTED by little green men and replaced by their vanilla doubles.. Its just been a lifetime mystery to me what happened to the band from that album. Not saying Make Yourself is bad, I dig it, it's just not S.C.I.E.N.C.E! I wish they did a remaster of it, for the 25th anniversary next year or something? That album deserves it! Anyway, sorry for rambling, just love them and needed to get it off my chest! /rant

the perils of being in 3d ....has there ever been a more apt description of life?? BB is a god-tier level songwriter, singer and just all-around musical talent and incubus is the most influential band in my life ...science is top 5 albums all time for me
I love their stuff. Mike Einzinger's guitar work is incredible.
There's a reason Incubus is one of the only 90s alternative bands anybody still likes. You should check out Jose Pasillas's drum clinic where he plays over a live recording of Sick Sad Little World.
Please do more of incubus
Incubus are one of my favorite bands.. such a great back catalogue of music so many great tracks to get into... Great song ..
Under my umbrella, one of my all time favs🤙.
This band is amazing live, Branden is also so underrated
Awesome to see you doing some Incubus! Check out Into The Summer, Stellar, Dig, & Wish You Were Here by them
So funny, I recently started re-listening to Incubus in the last few weeks.
Some of the best live shows I’ve ever seen INCUBUS
I remember seeing incubus open for 311 way back when. What a great night
Gotta check out their track "Sick Sad Little World". Probably their best work in my opinion!
I like their song "Dig" maybe listen to that one
Jose Pasillas....best drummer in rock and roll
Einzinger!
Great band. Really unique sound and always thought they were underrated
The swells you are hearing are actually Mike the guitar player moving volume control up and down on the guitar after strumming with effects on the guitar.
Oops, should have waited longer while watching before posting. You got it.
off of the science album "deep inside" is an awesome song to check out
I think I was a Junior or Senior in High School when this first came out. This song will never get old.
incubus "Admiration" or "Runaway Train" from B. Boyd directly. Beautyful. Enjoy!
They did a jazzy acoustic version of this. It's quite sweet.
I love playing it on acoustic. Challenging.
"Certain shade of green(acoustic)" is one of my fav Incubus tracks
Love Incubus, great breakdown - Brandon Boyd is a fantastic vocalist, love his voice.
Also, I'll bring up TESSERACT since you've not done them for a while, please react to TESSERACT FEAT. MARTIN GRECH - HEXES (LIVE IN STUDIO). It is so, so good! Can't wait for you to check it out. Have a nice day!
Deftones technically have a DJ, although Change is the only song you've done where he used turntables.
i would LOVE to see him cover a deftones song... i would recommend it myself, but I can't decide which song.. too many amazing tracks to choose from..
@@jillybeangaming he already did Change and Passenger.
He did Change, Passenger, and Sextape. But I won’t complain if he does more!!
Frank NIT uses turntables on almost everything. He uses them the same way they used to use tape to do musique concrete but uses keyboards now a lot more than he did originally in the band
lol I knew someone would bring up Deftones
PS. /rant
These guys got me through the last year... Thank you. Enjoy
One of the most exciting live bands. Hope we can see live music, soon. Have a nice couple days away from us, your new fans! See you again, soon
“Warning” is my absolute favorite Incubus song and definitely worth a listen
IIRC, on this album their guitarist was using Mesa Tremoverbs with PRS Semihollow IIs. Tremendous tone.
I love Incubus. A lot of their older fans didn't enjoy If Not Now, When? because of the genre changes, but I loved it. Brilliant album and they have a really great discography
Agreed. That album is really close to my heart because it got released right after my mother passed away almost 10 years ago. It really helped me to cope with the situation.
If you are doing more 90s rock check out "Stars" by Hum- really overlooked track from that time.
Hum is awesome! Love those guys.
Fun fact, Hum released an album called "Inlet" last year.
@@Superevilfrog and it's fantastic!
Second that
HUMMMMM!!
Not Stars, though. It’s just not as layered or as amazing as The Scientists, Isle of the Cheetah, or Afternoon With the Axolotls. Something from the new album would be cool too. I would LOVE to see what he thinks of the arrangement and the dynamics on Shapeshifter.
Incubus is my favourite band, I have followed them for about 20 years. Listen to them everyday. This has brought me so much joy this morning 😁 Also so great to read all the lovely comments from other Incubus fans. We are the best 😄
Sick Sad Little World is one of my favorite songs ever. The guitar solo that Mike pulls off in that song will blow your mind.
