According to lead singer Brandon Boyd, "The lyric is basically about fear, about being driven all your life by it and making decisions from fear. It's about imagining what life would be like if you didn't live it that way
goddd
Pretty sure it's about being a designated driver.
"so if I decide to waiver my chance to be part of the hive, will I choose water over wine and hold my own and drive."
@piccolomair Quite a literal interpretation of the song I suppose 😂
@@prefix253 haha apparently someone has never heard of metaphors. It's 100% about letting fear and anxiety control your life.
The lead singer even said that's what he was writing about, so it's not even up for interpretation.
@willvr4 You replied to the wrong person lol, you meant to reply to piccolomair, above me.
That moment when you realize your life is controlling you, and it occurs to you that you should be controlling your own life. Love this melody, it's a series topic, in a hopeful mindset.
Incubus is an awesome rabbit hole to go down. Great instrumentation and 90s/2000s feel, and their vocalist is literally a poet.
Incubus is legit, and Brandon is a fantastic songwriter who explores the human condition in a lot of his work
Most definitely.
This was all over the place in 2001, fantastic song, legendary band!
nostalgiaaa
Love this song, too many people live in fear - debts, job security, cheating partner, violence in society, mortgage/rent, media constantly trolling us. Sometimes we just need to switch it all off and take the wheel, live a little. Love the reaction, cheers guys!
Also, the lead singer Brandon Boyd plays the bongos thru the entire science album while he sings.
This song ages very well it's just as relevant today as it was back in the day.
...you said it ,man. Feels good to switch it off, if you can.
Absolutely ✌💚🇨🇦
Yes finally Incubus one of my favorite bands. You guys definitely need to check out more of their songs, brings back great memories for me.
I remember watching him speak about his voice coach helping him to expand and open up his vocals. This was my jam in highschool. This band was great.
I still feel S.C.I.E.N.C.E., Make Yourself, and Morning View were Incubus at their peak
A Crow Left Of The Murder for me.
It was the sound they set out to be, it started a bit mixed (Fungus and S.C.I.E.N.C.E). A Little dynamic shift in Make Yourself and Morning View. Put it all together, you get Crow.
@@trenchy1990 agreed. That album was the culmination of their sound and creativity. Love that album
Science through ACLOTM is the run for me. The reason they’re my favorite band is because they always are progressing, no album sounds the same.
@@Slipcubusknight I totally agree. They’ve been my favorite band since I first heard Pardon Me
Morning View will always be in my top albums since ever I stole the CD from my older sister's room back in the 2000s 🤣
I heard this song at 41 years old and in an instance I faced my fears & crippling anxiety and got my license. Just like that. The metaphor for life was so deep and strong it moved me to do something I never thought I would. Cheesy, but true :)
That’s awesome!! Literally hold the wheel and drive 😂
Always loved this tune and the message.
Yeah, it’s such a good song about taking on fear and anxiety. Not letting the fear control you.
My favorite Incubus song ♥️
Trust me his voice goes above and beyond what you were anticipating with this song. Keep the incubus coming, you won't be disappointed.
Yes I'm glad you're finally checking out some Incubus
I love these albums of theirs: Make Yourself, Morning View and A Crow Left of the Murder
Freakin' love Incubus!
More! do "Stellar" or " Nice to Know You" or "Wish You Were Here."
Also react to: Matisyahu "King Without a Crown"
Scars on Broadway "They Say"
Jack Johnson "Flake"
🤘💀✌
Incubus will always be my favorite band from when make yourself came out when I was in 5th grade. They’re so unique and no album sounds like the previous.
I love this song, Yes Lex you got right, check out Wish You Were Here, Megalomaniac, Anna Molly 👌
This album was the first album I ever bought. My favorite band growing up.
Check out "The Warmth", "Pardon Me", "Megalomaniac" or "Stellar". They have a lot of good songs but those round out the 'hits'
Wish You Were Here?
Why, he’s just going to not understand what those songs are about too 😂
many bought the album based off this song and were in for quite an awakening lol, The album is one of my favorites. in my all time top 10. Great band,
SO many great Incubus tracks to discover: Dig, Stellar, Nice To KNow You, Circles, Wish You Were Here, Warning, A Certain Shade Of Green, 11 AM... so many.
Brandon Boyd definitely has pipes! The more songs you hear, the more you'll appreciate his style!
This album is so good, I'd love to see you guys react to more on this album or other Incubus in general. they're so freaking talented.
Beautiful band, beautiful song. I saw them performing this live on another channel and he was so on point. He has an amazing voice.
Highly recommend their song "Warning". It's amazing. Especially with the video.
One of my favorite bands ever! Make Yourself and Morning View spent a lot of time in my stereo on repeat over the years.
Incubus is a great band. Seen them live twice, they put on a good live show.
I was literally just looking for reactions to this a few hours ago lol. Good timing
The fact that you don't have a massive intro and get to straight into the music is really appreciated
Great song and great band. I think they have a really unique sound.
Now this is a vibe. The end of the 1990's, so much unknown....
I still remember meeting them at Diedrich Coffee in Costa Mesa. My friend Scott knew them, but Id never heard of them. Brandon gave me a sticker, and I put it inside the window of my Subaru hatchback, but it was made from regular paper and the first time the windows got some condensation, it fell apart lol. Not too long after that, they kinda took off and I started hearing about them. S.C.I.E.N.C.E. Is def early Incubus at their best! Hard to believe this super mellow band was actually kind of hard rock for a few seconds.
6:23 its about taking control of the direction of your life rather then letting fear and insecurity drive your decisions. And then being open to what the future brings as a result of those decisions so that you continue to stay behind the wheel and don't let fear and doubt control you. Lex mostly got it at the end, as usual lol. (Last comment, I promise.)
Ahh Incubus, I dont remember what year it was but I met the singer Brandon outside a Korn Concert before they were famous, he was passing out demos of their album S.C.I.E.N.C.E he let me listen and we just kicked it while he passed them out for free and handed me a box full of cassettes to pass out in the parking lot and I agreed and kept like 25 to bring home and I still have a few in my basement today. Cool guy and happy for them they made it big and even got to tour with Korn later.
Y'all definitely need to do some more Incubus. Lots out there too love.
Great '90s and '00s band with many good songs and videos. They have heavier songs than this. Funk metal, alternative rock. 🎸 He's actually has a great voice. Their music is like hip hop influences, jazzy and rock combined. Which was popular during the '90s, '00s. Nu metal is similar. Especially with groups coming out of California and the west coast. Lex kind of described the alternative crowd perfectly. 😆
I'm so happy to see s.c.i.e.n.c.e. is getting so many mentions in the comments section!!
You should check out Megalomaniac from 2004. The Video Version. The song was number 1 for 6 Weeks on Billboard Modern Rock Songs. A song about the Megalomaniacs around the World. Just as relevant today as it was 18 years ago
Jnco jeans, class of 2002, listening to 91X on the Sony discman.
Man, so many memories.
Next is Pardon me. Great rock song with rap style verses synth and hard drumline. Then heavy chorded guitar
This is such a feel good song for me!!! I love it
FINALLY some Incubus 👊
LOTS of really GREAT songs on their play list.
They are a TOTAL vibe band. The more you listen, the more you have to listen to.
Drive
Pardon Me
Dig
WARNING
Are You In
Wish You Were Here
Nice To Know You
Stellar
Saw these guys a few times ..they have great shows ..they use to do half with electric and half acoustic ..kinda cool
this song is probably more relevant now then ever...'Don't let fear dictate your actions, regardless of how popular that may be. Think for yourself & drive, Do not be driven.
Such a cool band with their own sound👍👍
Just keep digging into them please!!!
This album was a masterpiece. It's not at all the style of music I normally listen to, and I don't really care to explore more things that sound similar, but there's no denying they aced this one.
Oh my goodness, that's exactly what I said to my son years ago. Whatta set of pipes Brandon Boyd has. Incubus is in my top 10 bands. You both missed the point- it's about not living in fear. Aqueous Transmission is actually my favorite song of theirs and the lyrics would drive Brad nuts.
Aqueous Transmission is beautiful
@@MickeyValenz The lyrics are pretty Zen-like as Brandon Boyd has the Om Mani Padme Hum in Tibetan script on his right forearm(the jewel is in the lotus). Not sure if he's a full fledged Buddhist but he certain leans that way. Me too.
All these years later, I'm still jamming to this gem! Incubus rocks!!!!
In songwriting, those repetitive parts are called chorus, which a decent pop - or rock song always has. Different song, style and band, but if you listen Seals & Crofts song "Summer Breeze", it is a manual of a song that has several parts in it. Intro that is used as b - part as well, verses chorus and even a c- part before last verse.
Definitely on my playlist, since the first time I heard it!
I watched this already with you guys ❤️ The video is so much more representative of Brandon and the group!❤️
This song is what made me start playing guitar
This song has changed meanings to me since it first came out.
But it's always been a constant in my life 💖❤️
It’s great to listen to when fear and anxiety are controlling your thoughts and actions. Almost like a wake up call that life is short and it’s time to ensure you’re steering, rather than the fear.
a great band, especially live. everything is right with them. songs that go in your ears and don't get out.
Incubus is an American rock band from Calabasas, California, formed in 1991. Their musical style was initially a mix of funk metal and crossover, reminiscent of the sound of bands like the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Primus and Mr. Bungle.
I was allowed to experience them live twice in Germany in Munich
If you guys do anymore incubus you should try to find the morning view sessions. They perform for a small audience and sound amazing. I think you'll like it😁🤘
Just a heads up April is the anniversary of the death of Layne Staley of Alice in Chains. He died April 5th of 2002 of a drug overdose in his condo on Lake Washington, he was found by his Mother 2 weeks later he was 34. We here in Seattle still grieve for him. Would be nice if you could honor him with some of his best performances. My personal favorite is (it Ain't Like That Anymore) live at The Moore Theater in Seattle. Some other songs preformed at this concert are,Bleed the Freak, Man in the Box, Sea of Sorrow, The Real Thing, and Love Hate Love. Remember the first time you heard that voice? RIP Layne you are solely missed.
They had about 4 albums in a row that were just fire. Try the songs NEW SKIN, ANTI GRAVITY LOVE SONG, or even stuff like DIG and SOUTHERN GIRL. 😊
Southern girl is a song that makes panties drop. Well it did for me lol
@@edreedson 😅 yes it's a very poetic love song.
Love this vibe
I remember getting this album on release, then almost a year or two later this song exploded in popularity. It was strange how long it took, because it became popular closer to their next album than the one it came out on. I'd check The Warmth and Pardon Me from this album too.
I’ve loved this song for decades
They have so many good songs, well worth a deep dive on their catalog of music.
Really enjoyed your reaction to this classic, awesome song. This song is so compelling and I loved your comments! Thanks for the video!
Leaving yourself open to what is about to happen next in your life.
The way I relate to this song it got me though a horrible time in my life. I appreciate how it may also aid others
I love Lex just vibin' out 🥰
This is a classic 90’s song!!! Mandatory!!!!! Saludos chicos!!!
Nearly forgot about Incubus. Love them!
The warmth!!!
Incubus is great!
Certain shade of green is my all time favorite Incubus song by far
"Ok, what do ya think so far?" Love that question! Lex always has the vibe and sound perspective whereas Brad has been listening to the lyrics lol. Awesome combo! Love the authentic reactions.
Yet never seems to have a clue even if it’s obvious 😂
This song was played to death back in the day but somehow never wore out it's welcome for me.
Great song. Very introspective.
Incubus - the warmth and talk shows on mute are great tunes
First verse sums up the meaning immediately. They waste no time. “Should I choose to waiver my chance to be one of the hive”.
Off of one of my favorite albums of all time
I fricken 💙 this song!
Do 'The Reason' by Hoobastank next 😁
My favorite Incubus song...ever.
Love it. Used to play this song in cover bands. The cross stick snare also reminds me of playing the Chili Peppers song Under The Bridge in cover bands. (myself on drums)
Great song and lyrics. very underrated
Such a great song. Intense.
It'll never win in a live stream because they were never even close to being singles, but on your own you guys should check out songs like Deep Inside from their album SCIENCE or Sick Sad Little World from A Crow Left of Murder to get a feel with some of the more creative side. Also a song like Echo from Morning View winds up being this really easy listening chill ballad, but in contrast has Jose Pasillas going off on the drums while still keeping the vibe of the song. And its also a good showcase of Enzinger's touch for creating layers of sound with his guitar effects.
love yall
Yes! More Incubus! Brandon Boyd is the real deal.
Please do more Incubus!! Seriously just binge their discography, you won't regret the journey! Start with Enjoy Incubus and go!
Nostalgic,i still remember purchase their album cassete tape at music store 2004.
Please check out more Incubus!
I’ve always enjoyed this song. Wish you were here is another great one.
Incubus is a great band with tons of great tunes that run the gambit of styles. You can do heavy with Megalomaniac or Anna Molly. You can go with the true alternative with songs like Drive, Dig(my all time favorite), warmth, Make Yourself, Stellar, Warning(my second favorite), I could go on. Lex’s description is almost exact. They were the skateboard guys with the baggie pants, vans weird hairdos. This is the epitome of early 2000s alternative. Please do Dig!
I’ve always enjoyed how they incorporate the scratching. One of my favorites is “Battlestar Scralatchtica”
Check out their songs Wish You Were Here...Dig...Stellar
Every senior classes graduation song for nearly a decade
If you want more opened up singing to the song "dig". Brandon just kills it.
You have to listen to dig. My favorite.. very good
Glad to see you guys finally getting into some Incubus. However, this song is not really indicative of their sound. Not to say I don't like it, but I think you'll be surprised when you get around to doing some of their stuff off of S.C.I.E.N.C.E, or songs like Pardon me, The Warmth, Wish you were here...& So on. They really do have a very deep catalog, that is well worth the journey.
They actually did Pardon Me already
The Warmth ✌️❤️❤️❤️
Always enjoyed Incubus, if I have to give these guys a tag it be something like "Surferrock", There's a small EP they released couple years back called Trust Fall as an A-side to a B side that came after their album 8. It had like 4 songs and all of them sound so different from each other; yet their sound is just as recognizable.
Allround great band, maybe had one bad album somewhere but can't really fault them.
Don’t let your fear drive your life for you, you drive your own life, don’t let fear take control of how you live be open to more that life has to offer! I love ❤️ this song!
"INCUBUS" is Absolutely Amazing live . Coming Soon to Colorado USA. 🎼🎼🎼
Hey guys what's up! Greetings from South Florida! I love Incubus is sound, it almost sounds like they're playing underwater. You guys rock! God bless you! Peace! P. S. Tori Amos. Cornflake Girl.
