🎯 Key points for quick navigation: [00:18] Dr. Russell Kim introduces a 3-step process for optimal oral health: flossing, rinsing with a neutralizing rinse, and brushing your teeth. [░] [00:47] Flossing is the first step to remove plaque and food particles below the gum line. [░] [01:38] Brushing your teeth should be done after rinsing with a neutralizing rinse to remove mouth acidity. [░] [02:06] Brushing your tongue and scraping it afterwards helps remove bacteria and freshen breath. [░] [02:33] 🪥 Brushing your teeth for at least two minutes at a 45-degree angle is recommended. [░] [03:01] Crest Regular Cavity Protection toothpaste is recommended due to its sodium fluoride and mild abrasive content. [░] [03:57] Listerine is an effective over-the-counter rinse due to its ADA seal and anti-bacterial properties. There are generic brands available. [░] [04:25] ACT rinse is another mouthwash recommended by Dr. Kim. It contains sodium fluoride, which strengthens teeth. [░] [04:53] Brushing with toothpaste and rinsing with mouthwash containing sodium fluoride is compared to waxing a car for tooth protection [░] [04:53] The 3-step oral care routine should be done twice daily: in the morning and before going to bed [░] [05:23] Ideally, brushing and flossing should be done after breakfast and before bed [░] [05:55] Xylitol is an artificial sweetener that benefits oral health by: increasing alkalinity, reducing bacteria adhesion, eliminating bad bacteria, and aiding saliva in repairing cavities [░] [06:24] To get the full benefit of xylitol, consume 6.5 to 10 grams per day. Xylitol mints are a convenient way to achieve this. [░] [07:23] Consuming 6.5 grams of xylitol per day is recommended for optimal oral health benefits. Xylitol mints are a convenient option, but 13 mints would be needed daily. [] [07:48] Xylitol helps neutralize mouth acidity throughout the day, countering acidic foods and drinks. [⚖️] [08:15] Xylitol comes in various forms: mints, gum, and powdered sugar. [] [08:43] The most economical way to consume xylitol is by adding a tablespoon of xylitol powder to a water bottle and swishing throughout the day. I’ve come across this system before but I really appreciate how you explained it all fully but simply & quickly. I saw a comment that says up cannot substitute the Listerine mint but that’s false. I have seen generic brands with the same ingredients including percentages on the essential oils for much cheaper. Same for ACT.
Is it safe to use listerine with alcohol? I’ve read that alcohol rinses kill good and bad bacteria. Is it just as good to use the listerine without alcohol?
As for the xylitol sugar substitute, do not dissolve in water. Use a small amount such as 1/4 teaspoon and dissolve on tongue with your saliva which will give you the best effect.
Act puts fluoride back on the teeth after the listerine step. Xylitol after any snack meal or juice, or if ur mouth gets dry after brushing teeth it’s ok to take it after the fluoride is out of your mouth.
But doesn't Listerine kill the good bacteria in your mouth? The purpose of Closys is to help balance the ph level in your mouth. Do any of the products you use afterwards disrupt that balance?
You're right, however, after Listerine you rinse with Act, that will balance the acidity. Also, after you finish don't eat or drink anything for 1-2 hours. It's really amazing, The alcohol feels like it burns when you start Listerine, but, after a few days it drastically reduces.
What mouth wash can you recommend to replace act mouth wash because it's not available in the UK, and the only site I found it, it cost £17 which is about pricey for mouth wash. Thanks
Look for any neutral/alkaline mouthwash, as the pH of Listerine is soo acidic you need something to neutralize it. Google the article "What is the Best Alkaline Mouthwash?" by Central Point Family Dentistry - it has a chart with plenty of brand examples.
Hi what I wondered is what is the point of using some of the products (yes I get why one would want to use the Closys and xylitol) but half the products, particularly the Listerine and toothpaste for that matter is going to be washed away straight away ? Is there any back up in science to this method ? Also can I get away with not using the Listerine if I have to take one out as the cost mounts up to use these products all the time, particularly if some have a minimal effect after being washed straight after ?
Still cheaper than the dentist. Using the ACT (Flouride) after the Listerine makes the Flouride more effective since it reacts better in an Acidic environment. The brushing part with the crest main job is for you to massage and stimulate your gums with the toothbrush (he doesn't show it) but Doc Ellie recommends this inner and outer gums. Search her UA-cam. Overall this Doc gives decent advise and gives Doc Ellie her due I'd add the tongue scraper but floss nope - unless i can't get the stuck food out in between the teeth etc.
@@tinkymcginnis actually it has the lowest abrasive level on the RDA scale (the scale for determining how abrasive something is) next to water. Now does my question make more sense?

Go watch her videos again there is a latest one talking about that. My hygienist also says my teeth are so stained. I didn’t say I am using Dr Ellie system as I am still testing it out. The staining are apparently just cosmetic and easily to remove. Weirdly I got a comment from a friend recently saying my teeth are so white. I never got that before lol. There is recent research that has found relation between cardiovascular diseases and use of mouthwash, in the logic that the bacteria in mouth provide much needed nitric oxide to prevent high blood pressure and mouthwash destroys these bacteria leading to high blood pressure and consequently cardiovascular diseases. Maybe this is why Dr. Ellie emphasizes the importance of good nutrition, especially for sufficient intake of sources of nitrics, though, without explaining why she recommends that. And that, I didn't like about her...
Don’t ever use listening at all. pHway below 7. At pH is below 5.5 , enamel demineralizes. At pH between 6.2 and 6.4 exposed dentin erodes. Exposed dentin means the root surface is showing. Listerine pH is somewhere below 4.5 depending on who you read. Massaging gum has no therapeutic effect on oral health.
