Hey Beatdown! Would love to see an update video on if you are still using these and how you feel about them years later.
“You don’t swap out gold hoops; that’s in the Bible”! 😂😂👊🏼
Would love to hear an A/B between this setup and your old one (which always sounded pretty darn good).
I just purchased the same set about 6 months ago. They truly are amazing. My drums have never sounded better. The bass mic is killer.
I'm all over these, Sweetwater has this mic pack with stands and cables for $1,069, man that's a great deal. Thanks for the info and demo on these mics Rob, I greatly appreciate it.
That’s in the Bible! 🤣 Yep, There it is, Proverbs 32, verse1, “Thou shalt not switch out gold hoops for wood ones” 😆👍
Amen 🙏🏼 🥁
Hey Rob! You can get lower profile mic clips to mount these mics on which will get them back out of the way and still give you a good angle for recording.
I have just the ADM for my snare, and had to put it on it's own stand and my 12" and 13" toms are low and at 10 and 2oclock in relation to the snare and even on it's own stand its a little limited on positions as far as it being low and out of the way. That's definitely my gripe as well.
Glad you're enjoying your purchase. Thanks for the lessons.
New mics look smart and are the part. As you said they’re mighty big, that 10” tom was very central; first try is all about sorting those minor niggles out. For a flat set up you also get that confidence of what you would like to hear in basic ( can’t call it raw on that kit) tones are being faithfully captured. Thereafter, the cuts and boosts that make ‘your sound’ rely on the next layer of production and we’ll look forwards to that in Part II of your new mic soundscape.
Take the screw out of the tom clips and put the mic through the hole from the other side, you should be able to clip them to the drum without it being intrusive. Just 'fold' the mic around so it faces the drum still.
Overhead + Bass drum would do it in a good sounding room, if you dont have a good sounding room then u need to use close mics and room mics as well as great mixing.
Kit sounds great Rob..I use Apex mics and they are great and cheap. I highly recommend them to a drummer on a budget. That would bug me though that the Beta 52 doesn't match the other mics..but that is the obsessive compulsive disorder I have.
Sound great...those overheads really grab those cymbals well....very nice sounding. To big for me.....I don't like those big mics over my toms.....I went with beyerdynamic mics that sound awesome to...
Those mics sound great I am checking them out now. I mic my kit with kick drum mics because of what you said you can leave them flat and don't have to work as hard. Very good info again thanks Rob
great sounding mics and great sounding kit. wow
Wow, even flat I can hear the difference. Great improvement for 10 C notes.
I am going to cheap out and mic my PV2T67s with CAD Stage7s.
Maybe in the future I'll buy a set from Avantone.
Are these better than the Audix ?
Indeed sounds great for even just a flat EQ. Can't wait to hear them with some final EQ touches.
Tweed was the thing in the 1950's, not the 70's. Used on Fender amps and guitar cases because it was proven tough on luggage. Guitar cases had the purple plush on the inside too.
Thanx Rob! I just ordered a 7 mic box + a CK-1 with hypercardio & omni capsules. I will try out the ADM on the 10" tom and an Atom and/or a CK-1 on the snare...
Has anyone tried the Sub kick mic?? I always have my two old car 8" speaker that I use for that purpose...
I just ordered the snare mic from Sweetwater. Picking it up tomorrow
Just ordered these tonight actually and after watching this I'm pretty sure i made a good choice. Will be using them on a session in 2 weeks so i can't wait to here them in person!
The hardware for those looks nice. But yeah, I can see the size being an issue at times.
Try different mic mounts for your small Toms. LP claws (for example) will allow you to position the mics so that they don't intrude quite so far into your heads.
Sound great, I would put that mic under the 10 inch Tom reso...
It's gonna get smacked up on the batter side otherwise.
From what I can hear, they sound very natural. Feel like I'm in the room. Great demo! Thanks for the video!
Totally awesome. Thanks for putting this all together. Again you have given me much needed inspiration.
Those overheads!!! So nice.
Tried nearly all what is on the market, and imho nothing beats Sennheiser
Wow, these mics sound great - natural and fattening up the kit a little at once! Thanks for the video and the insight, I'll really consider buying them when a new set is due. Greetings from Germany, keep it up!
Amazing 🎉
I'm shopping for mics to setup a recording studio for drums. I came across this video, looked them up, and I dig the price for the CDMK-7.
I had come to the understanding (but I don't recall how) that these were made in the US, but my CK1 has a "Made in China" sticker on the box. Very displeasing.
UPDATE: The first time I used the shock mount, one of the bands snapped while installing it. Wonderful.
I use cheaper mics bought years ago. (7) CAD TSM411's a KBM412 on the kick and (2) AT 2020's as overheads through a PreSonus AR16. Sounds great to me.
Rob I experienced the same thing with the micro's, I folded the tom holders a little until they came out nicely above the edge of the toms.
I just don't know if that is an option with your tom holders, they look very sturdy
I'll give it to you it can be a simple solution for your 10 inch tom
translated with google translated if there were errors in it mvg mario
still forgot to say it was a different brand where I have added
They are the best mics I have used, they are better than Beyerdinamic, here in Mexico Beyerdinamic are so expensive.
Wow thanks for making this video. I’m in market for new mic kits and these are sweet!
Do you find the mondo has an unusually low output? I find we have to really crank it in either of the PAs our band regularly uses. I forgot to ask the soundguy if he had the same issue the couple times I took it to shows mounted internally (Kelly shu)
amazing, rich and clear sound.
Why are you not using the UV2'S anymore?
I wonder what happend to the hypercardioid CK-1 for the HiHat - did you not need it (because the two cardioid CK-1s picked up enough of the HiHat) or were you not satisfied? I couldn't spot it neither in your final setup / drum solo, so I'm curious what happened?
Bad ass overheads! Nice sounds........I think I may get a pair.
Telefunken m80 on the snare is awesome to...warm fat sound on it. Different that the sm57.
Good Lorrrrt, THOSE TOM MICS!!
Rob will the mounts for the toms work on your A&F snare? I have a full A&F kit, but not sure the tom mounts will work on A&F hoops. Thanks!
This is a great kit.
..on a completely different subject.. What is up with the kick drum resonater head?
For the smaller tom's, the silver metal bracket, is it thin enough to bend just a bit to back the mic up? Or does the company have a different angled bracket (say like a 30-45°angle)? Just seems they hang just too far into the middle. If ya can work with the silver slider bracket bending wise. I'm sure it will definitely benefit, an clear the room you need.
You probably could with a strong table vice, but they’re pretty solid. If you’ve noticed in my videos, I’m not using them. I replaced them with the Audix D-Vice clip. Way more flexible with the gooseneck.
Rob did they cost $800? If so, I think that's a pretty good deal for everything you got, as long as they sound good and you are HAPPY! Impressive for sure! Thanks and Blessings!
Hey man, what mic cables are you using? I use Whirlwind when I can afford them, but on a full drum kit, that's a lot of cables. I use at least 25' all around because you never know how much length you might need going down the stands, on the floor and up to your desk.
Hey Rob they look great and sound great! definitely will work for my kit I have over size drums!!
There must be something in the air, I've been thinking about picking up some new mics and although a bit big and dipping into the drum surface a bit, I like how these sound and the build quality. Thanks for taking the time.
If you can spend a bit more, I'd definitely look at the Audix drum pack as well. Smaller footprint and they all sound fantastic.
@@Hellion421 I've used Audix before and they're nice, but like Rob here, I'd like to try something different. Thanks for the info though.
Use mic stands instead of tom mounts, and your problems will disappear.
@@legacyShredder1 I never said it was a problem, so nothing to make disappear, but I appreciate the comment.
@@DolkkarToyznstuff Not to nit pick here, but "a bit big and dipping into the drum surface a bit" does more than imply an actual problem.
Bro, could you bring those tom mics a little closer to the center of the head?
I have a pair of CAD 7 with an extra tom mic. Hmmmmmmm................................ What are your thoughts?
Yeah, I don't like a mic mounted on the snare. I always use a stand so it won't get in the way. What would you do with an 8" tom? Nice video. Thanks!!
Is your kick hooked up to a subwoofer in your room?
They match your drums. Cool
Are you still using them? Great video!!
I'm thinking Earthworks DM20 for toms, Earthworks SR25 for snare, Beta 52 for kick and maybe some Royer 122's for overhead. Very pricey though.
Gotta remortgage my house to afford that setup. Lol
Rob, how is your A&F snare head still so new looking?
I would have preferred to listen to the sound, without 'moongel' on the toms.
Your snare drum is wonderful, I want to buy it soon as possible.
Has any tried the sub kick mic by this company
OK, so...in need of the 'Groove Responsibly' sticker.
Yes I'm impressed ! sound killer! thanks for sharing ...
Thanks for the review, those mics sound nice. One question, do the mic mounts on the toms touch the head and bearing edge of the drums? It kind of looks like that in the video.
They look gorgeous
I usually am kinda annoyed by the sound of isolated close mics on toms. I find that without overheads/rooms most drums sound terrible. But these sound great!
Placement and tuning can make a big difference.
Excellent playing as always, but I can't get over how much drum head mic encroachment you're able to deal with. That would just distract the hell out of me.
Wow! Just the OVERHEADS sound as good as some bands whole kit mic'd up...LOL... Nice!
They had a blindtest @ Recordinghacks. The Mondo was the best one imo, so I got it and I've been very happy with it 😊
That Mondo is a freakin champ 🏆🔥
@@RobBeatdownBrown It's a matter of taste, of course, but to my ears it was the winner and many of the competitors were industry standards from the last forty years 😊
The tom clamps won't do it for me, I don't always strike dead center and the mics would be in the way of center hits on the 10" and 12". I have a kick mic on my floor tom. Without comparing the old mics, fully mixed, I cannot have any confidence in the extra money for these.
I worry about hitting them. I use ATM230 on my toms
They sound open and full
Kick sounds 🤯🤯🤯🤤🤤
I could not hear the hi hat mike - was it on?
I have the avantone CV-12 tube condenser and it is niiiiiice. Rob you should get it for a room mic.
A totally agree
“You don’t swap out gold hoops, that’s in the Bible” ... make it a shirt please? 😂
He@@ Yeah, I can tell a slight differ, not much loudness, but the tone and full bottom round sound, that is the badness, you got it good,
Very nice
Man I need these! They’d look great with my Redwood Burst Mapex Armory kit!
Sounds good flat.
Where is the hi hat mic?
They do seem quite large
Fucking nice Yamaha you have!
Can you please talk about the new phenomenon of drummers mic”ing the cymbals from UNDERNEATH instead of over head.
Matt Mcguire/chainsmokers
Pete parada/ bad religion
I'm obviously not Rob, but the whole "underheads" been a thing for decades actually! Haven't tried it myself, but from what I've seen, it actually gives you a pretty interesting stereo image of the kit. Gotta make sure you get the phase right though!
Jose Castro not under-heads!!!
.
Reading comprehension: the cymbal mics.
Under cymbals. As opposed to the normal overhead mics.
Try again.
@@bromike Sure thing. At least in my experience, spot mics on cymbals (like what Matt does with each cymbal) give you a lot more control in the mix since you get the separation with less bleed from other elements when mic'ing from underneath, since you're aiming straight at the cymbal (brings out a lot of low mids out of my ride too). What I meant initially is that some people also put a pair of "overheads" underneath the cymbals (so, underheads) for the same purpose.
Jose Castro cool thanks
Great!
Nice
Yooooo 🔥🔥🔥
Cool
You don’t swap out gold hoops lol.
I PROPHECY AND PREDICT ROB WILL GET AN ENDORSEMENT FROM THE ADVANTONE COMPANY AND WILL BE FEATURED IN MODERN DRUMMER MAGAZINE AND OTHER MUSIC PUBLICATIONS
Yamaha is the best
Wy don't you use a Kick-Port
There’s one on my working kit. In this room, it tends to make my floor toms hum.
@@RobBeatdownBrown Hey ! Thanks Sir! Do you think there's any value in porting the toms? Kickport makes them for toms...Hmmmm?
Sexy mic set!
Shall i start drumming with the age of 58?
To Big
