Still lock down here in North Carolina and no work, your videos have gotten me through the last couple months and have improved my playing tremendously. Some old friends came over last weekend for a jam thinking I haven't played in over a year. They were very impressed. Thank you mr. Beatdown

In regards to the point about playing the pattern and not worrying about what drums to hit, on my electronic set I created a preset where every drum has the same sound just so I can focus entirely on keeping the rhythm even and smooth while moving around the kit. This really highlights kick drum issues especially, like when kick drum doubles are just slightly faster than the hands. For those with an e-kit, I highly recommend making a preset like this.

I really have to give a testimonial about this drum lesson. It totally got me out of my rut! It's simple, but I guess that's what makes it great. Adding the kick to drum fills really gives the illusion of adding SPACES, because you kind of don't hear the kick drum in a fill (unless the drummer emphasizes it). So playing something really simple comes across sounding more complex because of the SPACES. Really cosmic lesson for me, Doc. Thanks!

Hi Rob! You've been right on the money with your advice and wisdom you share with us in the exercises. My form and stick control have improved so much after just 3 weeks of practicing as much as I can.....I try to practice at least an hour. My singles, doubles and paradiddles are getting better, but they're not as smoooooooth as I want them to be. I will continue to woodshed these and I've got to improve my 6 stroke roll. Take care and peace and love to you and all.

  • @jcarp6335

You are so right about the simple exercises being the most effective.
Regarding this triplet exercise, I’d recommend trying to play an accent at different places inside the triplet using the left hand as well. It’s instinctive to accent the first note you play with the right hand, but try to shift accented note.
Also try reversing the hands and playing LRK.
Thanks for this video! Great, relaxed feel as always.

Caught me off guard there. At 3.05 you said to practise the straight triplet (1-trip-let / 2-trip-let etc).
Then when you started the exercise at 3.34, it went into double time (1-trip-let / &-trip-let / 2-trip-let / &-trip-let) lol
I guess I’ll have to start from the very basics and work my way up to this exercise.
    Thanks for the lesson.

    Beginner question:
When you say you should play it RLLRLR (or whatever the exact hand signatures are) - why is this important to mention? Doesn’t what matter is timing? Is it because we assume people will naturally accent with a certain hand?
