  • Can any of these mic packs beat the Shure SM57? We tested all the drum microphone kits we could find in the store at Chuck Levin's Washington Music Center... DPA, Audix, Sennheiser, sE, Neumann, and Earthworks were all put to the test! What were your favorites?

I have the Audix D series. Love them! Just a warmer overall sound to me. SM57 on snare bottom.

Great video! I happened to just purchase the se v kick so I'm happy to hear how it did in this context. Do you guys recall what eq settings you had the mic set to in this test?

I don’t know!! But try each setting and see what you like best for your kit and room!! That’s the most important thing anyway :)

The Audix pack is the DP7, we left a link to the mics in the description 👊

Well, I was way wrong in which one was the Shure pack! But I agree the SE had the best overall sound. Really surprised by the price and quality disparity with these packs. This was great though. I wish I had 42 mics to experiment with. 🙂

Very cool blind test! I loved the Audix sound! Quick question though: as the the Audix DP5A doesn't come with overhead condensers, what did you use for the overhead mics? Was it just the other (2) D2's since you only had one tom?

Good question. The DPA pack was not the DPA5A like I listed in the video, that’s a mistake on my part. That pack is the DP7 like you’ll find in the description!
