Their rendition of HALLELUJAH is iconic. Also they sound EXACTLY the same live!!
Yes Hallelujah is my fave
Absolutely agree! Hallelujah is a must for you!
A MUST SEE !!! It is even better than this song imagine that
It's SO good!!!
Agree but also love them doing Amazing grace
You still need to do the original by Simon and Garfunkel.
Agreed!
Simon and Garfunkle hit it out of the park, pentatonix probably did it a bit better, disturbed not only knocked it out of the park, they bounced it off the moon and hit jupiter in its great red eye. as for pentatonix tho their cover of hallelujah is damn near perfection.
Damn Straight !!!
As seen here. The original and the best: ua-cam.com/video/l0q7MLPo-u8/v-deo.html
Yep. OP
Hallelujah by Pentatonix is LIFE CHANGING!!!
It really is!!!
For real
I agree as well
Also there will be a surge or subscribers if PTX is coming😉
Only if you have no life
The irony is that Kevin, who is the beatboxer, has an ANGELIC voice, and we so rarely hear it. But if you want to hear more Pentatonix, and hear Kevin actually *sing*, listen to "Mary Did You Know" by Pentatonix. You won't regret it.
I adore Mary Did You Know - just stunning
One of my favs for sure
Kevin also sings at the end of their cover of Amazing Grace (My Chains Are Gone). I never knew he sang until I saw that video. He needs to sing more.
Thank you for this title, I've heard some great versions, but wasn't aware that they had recorded it. The song itself has a permanent place on my list, different bands for different moods.
He also comes in when they count to five on Sesame Street and at the end of their cover of "Imagine"
My fiance is deaf and with UA-cam I can play him songs with lyrics and make the phone pulse so he can feel the music. I created a monster because now on road trips he blasts the radio so he can put his hands on the dash. He didn't really understand music til his forties. I love playing penatronix for him.
The tall blonde who started is Scott Hoying. He is a baritone, not an actual bass but can hit the low notes when needed. The short guy with the mullet is Mitch Grassi. His voice is INCREDIBLE and so unique. The third singer in the white jacket is Matt Sallee. He is new and replaced the original actual bass of the group, Avi Kaplan, who left on amicable terms with the group and now does solo stuff. The woman is Kirsten (or Kirstie) Maldonado and the beatboxer is Kevin Olusola who CAN sing but rarely does since he's usually too busy keeping the beat, but he has a soft sweet voice. He went to Juilliard and can play the cello. Everyone was so sad when Avi left the group as he also has such a unique voice and was a lot of people's favorite in the group. If you listen to Halleluyah, which I highly recommend, you'll be equally blown away.
Amen
Perfectly explained Pamela Hofman
Mitch is a contra tenor. His upper range is close to Kirstens.
The other thing to note is that there was just the ONE change of group membership. Avi from 2011-2017, then Matt from 2017 - present. Mitch and Kirstie change their looks almost daily!! It is always them though.
Oh, it's not that Kevin CAN play the cello, it's that he plays it MARVELOUSLY. He also plays saxophone well enough that he was part of a concert at Carnage Hall. He speaks five languages and paused studies in medical school to join Pentatonix and do this. If the music career doesn't pan out he can always go back to school. lol
Yes, Simon and Garfunkel are the original artists. Paul Simon is the most genius writer from the 70's
This is a great version, but the second-best version of this song (behind Simon & Garfunkel) is the Disturbed version. Was that video taken down??
70’s lol Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel go back to early 60’s Thats when Sound of Silence was first released.
Art voice of an Angel🥰
@@larrycalvert4040 so he didn't write anything in the 70's?? Thanks for the correction
@@ChanelStuff Yes he wrote all the way into the 80’s look up a song he did with Chevy Chase it’s very cool
Welcome to the Pentatonix rabbit hole. Hallelujah is another beautiful song from them and their cover of Bohemian Rhapsody is magnificent.
Yes, Rabbit Hole is EXACTLY the right term!!! I've spent some very lovely hours down it!!!
Mad World too
@@frankziffle2469 Yes! Yes! Yes! Mad World by Tears for Fears - Pentatonix cover of that is *incredible*!
OMG! This group has everything, beauty, voices, presence and timing, sounds I know we will hear in heaven!
Amen!
Never heard of Pentatonix before, I am ashamed. This blew my mind. I have known the song most of my life, but this took it somewhere new.
You need to go down their rabbit hole! This is not even in the top 20 of their songs...
@@marksfarmcraft1888absolute nonsense
Scott (the first singer) isn't even their bass singer, he is the baritone. Fun fact the beat boxer also plays cello and can beat box while playing!
He’s both. He has a wide range.
Another fun fact: Kevin's cello is named Beyonce'.
These 5 are exceptional recorded AND live. What a great gift the show Sing Off gave the US and the world. I was sad it didn’t continue because acapella is so gorgeous.❤❤❤
They think Scott has a deep base voice? Let them listen to some earlier stuff with Avi. 😆
I know right.
Scott does have a deep rich base. If you noticed, he was the one taking over base when Avi was not, for example, in Hallelujah.
@@jeankernodle2288 and he was doing good job on that part
So true....
You should do hallelujah
I am so happy you finally found Pentatonix. They do all the sounds, and don't use instruments. They did a cover of bohemian rhapsody that will blow you away.
Totally agree.
Oh I hope they go down the rabbit hole 🤞
Yes!!!!! Their covers of "Hallelujah" and "Mad World" are also sooo good. Go down the rabbit hole my friends. You will not be disappointed.
That was the worst cover I ever heard, that was horrible! The Disturbed cover is better than the original but that was brutal to listen to 😂
I think you better listen to the cover by disturbed and you will realize how bad that was!
They are pretty much musical perfection. They never miss a beat. Their harmonies are on point. There arrangements are genius level.
Indeed.... When that Harmony kicked in at the beginning, just after the Solo Intro.... Gave me chills---Beautiful🤗
Paul Simon wrote wonderful music. The bass vocalist is Matt on the left hand side. Scott started the song singing in a very low range. They all have amazing voices and ranges. Acapella is incredibly difficult as every vocalist must sing every note perfectly without instrumental backing to help them. Pentatonix are simply superb.
PLEASE do their version of “Hallelujah”… you won’t be sorry! And also do their song “Amazing Grace (My Chains Are Gone)”… both sound like a choir of angels singing.
100 percent
You have to do the Daft Punk medley!! It will blow your mind that they have no instuments...just their voices!! They won a Grammy for the Daft Punk medley❤🎶❤🎶
This was the first song I heard by them. The video had me going "WHO ARE THESE GUYS???" I've watched most of their videos.
@@randybliss6480 Yeah it’s one of my favourites too!
Can't wait to see your faces when you hear them sing "Bohemian Rhapsody".
.. and _Hallelujah_
They are going to love it. Also Mary did you know
When they hear this group sing Freddie 😍
I agree that Pentatonix is absolute perfection. Scott the lead baritone, Mitchell the falsetto tenor, Kristin the soprano, Matt singing bass and Kevin keeping the beatbox also has the voice of an angel. In their live shows, he uses a stomp board and clap gloves for rythm.
To hear all of them listen to amazing grace.
Yes, Simon and Garfunkel are the originators. Paul Simon wrote this song when he was 17.
This is after Avi Kaplan left the group, he's an actual bass, Scott, who started this song off, doesn't usually sing all that low. I'd recommend their cover of "Radio Active" with Lindsey Stirling, a violinist.
Lindsay Sterling is amazing!
Yes Lindsey is Amazing!
Ja Avi left the group 4 years ago, Matt is almost 4 years in the group and a amazing bass
I miss Avi..😔
@@lorirose5343 I can’t hear it anymore avi left the group he CHOOSE MATT and Matt is amazing for the group. When you miss avi listen to his music and leave PTX alone! Avi is not coming back so accept Matt and PTX with the bass 😮💨 Matt is not new anymore 🤦♀️
Hey there from Edmond. As much as I enjoy Home Free, Pentatonix are the GOATS of a capella. They have won 3 Grammys and been touring worldwide for the past 10 years. They have both covers and originals with over 200 videos and 5 billion youtube views. Please delve into them more, a fellow Okie would love nothing more than to get to see your journey.
Lived in OKC over 20 years. 🥰
@@TechnicallyTexan Raised in Edmond, but now live in Stillwater. Go Pokes!
Also, just imagine what talent it takes to arrange these songs for the group (they mostly do their own arrangements), who is going to sing which parts, who is going to provide the musical sounds, etc., it is nothing short of AMAZING!!
I love to see people when they hear Pentatonix for the first time! Great job, I love you two!
PTX are the GOAT’s of a capella- no doubt. They’ve won three Grammys so far. I’ve seen them eight times and they’re amazing!
"Hopefully it's something hard I can rock out too!"
"It's Acapella."
"Oh... I'm cool with that.."
*Proceeds to rock out anyway*
Sounds about right for Pentatonix.
S and G's version is something you can rock out to.
Their rendition of HALLELUJAH is better than a lifetime of going to church. This one too.
Yes!!! It gave me goosebumps.
Yes!!!!
Need to listen to Pentatonix sing Amazing Grace, Hallelujah, and The Prayer! Absolutely transfixing.
The human voice is the ultimate instrument. Blown away, love you guys
Pentatonix can do no wrong. Y’all have to listen to their versions of Hallelujah & Amazing Grace. Hallelujah brings tears to my eyes it is so powerful & beautiful.
I agree they are awesome. absolutely loved both songs
Yes!! Amazing Grace is beautiful!!
Also Mary did you know
except maybe replace a member
Their 90’s medley is so much fun!! You will love it!!
Pentatonix is amazing please react to more!! Avi used to be in the group you can see him in their video of Hallelujah
Listen to Pentatonix sing Bohemian Rhapsody - I hate covers of this song, but these guys definitely do an amazing job with it.
Absolutely, Bohemian Rhapsody is amazing.
You REALLY need to check out Bohemian Rhapsody. You will be way more than shook.
I love covers of Bohemian Rhapsody! Such a fun song
Pentatonix are always top-notch! I would suggest "Mary, Did You Know" a Christmas blockbuster they did a few years ago. If you don't shiver, you're not human. On the subject of "Sound of Silence" another version you really need to listen to is by a heavy metal band called Disturbed. Probably one of the lightest songs they ever did, but emotionally POWERFUL. Keep 'em coming, Squad!
Dude, did you NOT listen to the beginning of this video??? They said they reacted to Disturbed's version FIRST, now they are reacting to Pentatonix, then they need to do the original by S&G... Catch up to the rest of us!!!
Your going down the Pentatonix (PTX) rabbit hole, and it's deep! An Acapella band that has single-handedly taken acapella to new and higher levels than ever before. After being together for 10 years they continue to be the best (with three Grammys under their belt). I think this is one of my favorite groups to listen to... They're Awesome!😊🤩
If you want church choir vibes, you have to hear PENTATONIX do "Amazing Grace", it's so beautiful even the non-religious will be moved by the grace of their sound!
The way y'all looked at each other throughout this was epic. Now, listen to them do Hallelujah 😭
Mitch, Scott and Kristen were all in high school together, they are the core of the groups. Try their Mary Did You Know. You will hear the beat boxer sing, and he is great too.
Kirstin
And Amazing Grace!!! Omgosh!! Must see!!! Please!!!
This is a powerful song. Simon really wrote a masterpiece. It’s about despair and people not speaking up. People not listening. There’s so much there , it’s as relevant today as when it came out.
IMO Simon is the greatest songwriter ever.
Such a great song, and the three groups I've heard, S&G, Disturbed, and Pentatonix, all do it justice in different ways.
Lol, when you both stopped and looked at each other. Priceless. So many more good Pentatonix to listen to...Daft Punk, 90's Medley, Hallelujah, Amazing Grace and Imagine come to mind.
They are the Harry Mack, Chris stapleton, Dimash of their lane. They are the goats of accapella no one else can get that close. Home free, voice play and a few others are outstanding and I love them but these guys define the genre.
Welcome to the Pentatonic rabbit hole. Now you have got to hear them do Hallelujah and Amazing Grace. You will not be disappointed.
Beautiful song love all versions, classic, Brilliant Simon and Garfunkel…touches the soul
Love disturbed for todays time
As others have said, their cover of Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah" is utterly amazing, but their cover of Bohemian Rhapsody is just unbelievable. It's lighter and more playful than "Hallelujah," but it is probably the best cover of BR I've ever heard. Definitely worth a watch!
If you think Scott (the first guy) sang deep, you have to hear their original bass, Avi Kaplan in "Hallelujah" or "Bohemian Rhapsody"...and their current bass, Matt Sallee (the 3rd soloist here) in "New Rules X Are you That Somebody" or "Havana".
They would have a fit listening to Voiceplay and Geoff Castilluchi.
And don't forget Geoff Castellucci!!!!
Avi is in Home Free now I believe
Avi kaplan doing the song 16 tons is the lowest base I’ve heard ever!!
@@pammazzanti1625 No, he just did a collab.
Their version of Hallelujah and Amazing Grace are unreal !!
They are managed by Sony, who are a bit protective of their copyright and do have a habit of randomly blocking videos. Recommend when you do any more Pentatonix that you blur the video, or add an overlay on top of the video so as not to arouse Sony. You've listened to Queen playing Bohemian Rhapsody, so you know that it would be absolutely impossible to do that one a capella, don't you? WRONG! You have to listen to Pentatonix's cover. It will alter your perception of what is possible. And if you're impressed with an a capella guitar solo, try their version of Tchaikovsky's Sugar Plum Fairy. That's an a capella version of an orchestral instrumental. Prepare to be mind-blown.
This!
They're managed by Sony?! After PTX won the Sing Off, didn't Sony cancel their prize contract in less than a year?
The New York Times reports
Madison Gates records a small unit of Sony pictures that finds music for movies and television manages Pentatonix. Sony did drop them from their major record label Epic I think is the label name. The decision was supposedly made on research of previous acapella groups success but I guess they didn't really listen because they're not like previous acapella groups oh well.
@@8fran08 Sony dropped the. They are now with RCA
More pentatonix please!!! Good place to continue is with Imagine, Hallelujah, and Amazing Grace....
This was the song that got me into PTX, I almost cried! I have tickets to see them next April. Congratulations on your new baby too. Love from Yorkshire, England.
The look on Jays face is priceless! Their voices are like angels singing !
Welcome to the world of Pentatonix (PTX). So many great songs from them. Hallelujah, Bohemian Rhapsody, Daft Punk Medley, 90s Dance Medley, Amazing Grace, and soooo many more. Another great acapella group is Home Free.
Hallelujah is amazing. you are so impressed and emotional, then the angel sings. Amazing Grace you get to hear Kevin's crystal clear voice singing. Imagine you really get to hear each of them. A cross-over with Home Free, after Avi leaves Pentatonix, he does a guest role on Ring of Fire; one of Johnny Cash's best songs. Also, Mitch and Scott have a side project Superfruit, I highly recommend their cover of When in Rome's "The Promise"
Do you know, Mary Did You Know?
How about KO channel? (Kevin Olusola) Amazing talent!
Yes IMAGINE that! 🤔🤗✌️🤙
Actually Avi's appearance with Homefree was a few years before he left Pentatonix. It was to kick off Homefree's first L.P. after winning the Sing-Off released in 2014. Avi was with Pentatonix until September 2017.
I saw them live before the pandemic. They sound the exact same live! I cried when they did Hallelujah. I don't have the words to express how moved I felt watching them. Please react to more, you will not regret it.
First time for me hearing Pentatonix - just stunning!
You guys should definitely check out the original by Simon and Garfunkel. Also the cover by Disturbed is amazing.
Pentatonix do some really beautiful Christmas carols!
Their voices touch the soul. I think you would both love their holiday songs, especially Mary Did You Know? Little Drummer Boy is also awesome, and Hallelujah for sure.
I found you through a Home Free video. Vocal bands are amazing and you can't go wrong with anything from Home Free or Pentatonix. 😊
Welcome to Pentatonix!!! You need to check out Hallelujah, Mary Did You Know, The Little Drummer Boy, Amazing Grace....and there is just so much more! They sound the same in concert as they do in video!
They really leave you almost speechless by the end. The sounds they produce are a symphony
"Hallelujah" is next! One of the most powerful versions ever recorded!
I love it when you two just look at each other, speechless! This is the first time I've heard this version of one of my favorite songs. Thank you for introducing me to it. Loved it!
Another fan mentioned listening to their cover of "Hallelujah" which reminded me of another singer I think y'all would like who also does a version of the song "Hallelujah" - John Boutte. He's another crooner from New Orleans whose voice sounds like warm honey - a cross between Sam Cooke and Harry Belafonte.
Thanks for this, I had only heard Pentatonix with their terrific Christmas music. I really like Simon and Garfunkle doing this song, and am always skeptical of covers. They did it full-on justice!!
anything by Pentatonix is a must hear they really are awesome
They sing Hallelujah it will AMAZE you please do their video! I get chills every time!
As a child of the "60's when there was so much turmoil around the Vietnam War, and racial inequities, I think that Simon and Garfunkel wrote one of the greatest lines in any song ever written when they sang, "And the sign said "the words of the prophets are written on the subway walls, and tenement halls". To this day, those lyrics still make me think back to those troubling days and how powerful music was. Thanks to Paul and Art for writing and signing such meaningful music.
Applies today as then.
@@martink3804 Sadly, I agree. Have we learned anything?
@@brianmaltby1424 I believe we are up to our ass in the lesson. It will take some time. The disclosure/exposure is happening, it can't be stopped.
@@martink3804 I hope you are right......
Paul wrote the songs; Artie was vocals.
Just watch their whole channel. They are amazing! Their version of Hallelejuh gives you goosebumps. Their Daft Punk medley will make your jaw drop, and their 90's medley is just so fun and nostalgic.
In case you didn't know - there are no instruments - it is voices and only voices. They are incredible and do an amazing version of Bohemian Rhapsody
First time hearing any pentatonix song. I am astonished. How did i live this long without this magic in my life!
Gives me goosebumps every time I hear them sing it. Pentatonix and Home Free are my two most favorite acapella groups. You should hear Avi Kaplan sing bass, when he was with Pentatonix. He also did Ring of Fire with Home Free.
Pentatonix's version of Leonard Cohen's Hallelujah is absolutely stunning if you want to try it.
You want bass? Listen to the earlier songs. They had a member called Avi who is OMG deep.
I believe Avi now sings with Home Free.
@Castor Pollux oh ok! Thanks for the clarification! 😀
Omg yes
@@dressupyourlife2010 late to reply, but Avi is a solo artist now. Avi Kaplan. And his new stuff is so good.
Avi Kaplan’s 16 tons!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Another Awesome reaction Jay & Amber, thanks!
The biggest groups in acapella music right now are Pentatonix, Homefree and Voiceplay.
Homefree’s cover of Johnny Cash’s “Ring of Fire” feat Avi Kaplan (the original bass from Pentatonix) is a must to react to.
So happy to see you react to Pentatonix and especially this song!! This is one of my favorite Simon & Garfunkel songs. Please listen and react to more Pentatonix please! They jam too...so many songs! Try their Bohemian Rhapsody, New Rules x Are You That Somebody, Daft Punk Medley, Love Again, Havana, Attention, Problem, Hallelujah, Can't Sleep Love, and there are so many more.
They won a singing show on TV about 10 years ago. It was a competition with a capella groups only ❤
Their rendition of Amazing Grace is so moving!
The shocked looks on y’all’s face 30 seconds in is priceless! 🤣 Definitely listen to more of their songs!!
The one in the white jacket is actually the bass of the group. Just shows how multi talented they all are!
This is one of those songs that can stand up to so many interpretations. They do a marvelous version. And I like both the original by Simon and Garfunkel and the cover by Disturbed. But I’m a sucker for acapella and I really love Pentatonix so color me happy that you chose to listen to them today. Thank you.
Their version of Hallelujah gives me the chills every time I listen to it. They really are amazing
You guys need to see what they did with Bohemian Rhapsody! Awesome!!
Scott - 1st singer, Mitch - 2nd singer, Matt then Kirsten. Kevin is the vocal percussionist/beatboxer and also an amazing voice!
Hallelujah by then is without a doubt the most beautiful song I have ever heard. Please react to it soon.
You need to see how Penatonix started out. You will appreciate them even more. They would practice right before coming on stage, switching things up. And it worked beautifully for them!
Pentatonix has beautiful Christmas music that you should check out!
Simon and Garfunkel sang this one as a duet with Simon playing guitar. It was haunting and beautiful.
I now live on acapella groups -- Home Free, Pentatonix (PTX), and Voiceplay. And yes, PTX beatboxer is a GENIUS, and sings beautifully. The individuals within these groups also have their own channels and are BRILLIANT!
When Jordan paused at 4:19 and you two just looked at each other in shock... cracked me up. I love it. A genuine reaction if ever there was one. Love you guys.
HALLELUJAH and Amazing Grace - gotta gotta gotta hear them sing as well!!!!!!
Loved this review. Awesome song and your comments were spot on
Simon put Disturbed version on their website, said it was the best version he's ever heard. But you do have to listen to the original wrote I think it was 1963.
1964
Usually he just does sound effect/beat boxes but check out IMAGINE to hear him sing
You guys have to listen to more of their stuff , they are incredible! Tall blond (Scott) has a crazy range so he does bass when Matt the bass (white jacket) is singing the lead. You should listen to their older stuff with Avi as bass, you'll be blown by his clear and crazy bass and his voice in general.
Love you guys, keep reacting!
When voices bring you to tears, just by the beauty, that's Truth!
They are the best.
A good Pentatonix song that blends their melodic a capella with more of a rock sound is their cover or Radioactive with Lindsey Sterling. It's an Imagine Dragons cover and it's awesome.
I cannot believe this is your first time hearing Pentatonix!!! You owe it to yourself to check out much more from this group - they are exceptional, and so much to choose from. Great reaction.
Hallelujah- their version is chilling
This is my second favorite. Hallelujah for the singing and the majesty of the video performance is perfection. Great reaction.
Great reaction guys. Pentatonix are the Masters of A cappella! 3 Grammys and counting!
Welcome to the Perfection that is Pentatonix!
When you listen to Simon and Garfunkel’s original version, I’d suggest the one they did when they were inducted into the Rock&Roll Hall of Fame. They sang it live and the power behind it was amazing.
I got to see them live in 2003, they were amazing.
