Please react to Iron Maiden "The Red and the Black" live book of souls! It's the most epic instrumental part I've ever seen from them. SOOO many melody and tempo changes and they nail them all perfect.
You said in your video you wanted to listen to more of them and see more videos like this you should check out the lead singer Serj Tankian's solo work like empty walls, lesser known but good stuff.
Great reaction Aileen to an awesome song. One of SOAD's best. Shavo (bassist) in an interview with the Phoenix New Times explains that the little alien-looking boy is actually himself. He says "I've always felt alienated. So I made him a little alien-kid." He further explains that back then it took him weeks and a lot of CGI money to come up with the face and nowadays it's a simple phone filter. He further notes that back when the song came out he refused to say who the kid was. "Now, 20 years later. I'm telling you."
i always interpreted this song as something that looks so "weird" or "out of this world" like an alien, that we promote it, make it popular, try to make money from it, etc...
It’s so weird growing up listening to SOAD but being too young to pay attention or analyze the lyrics, and then watching review videos and actually understanding the meaning. And I love the way you analyze the song as a whole and look forward to more SOAD! 🤘 ❤
“What does it profit a man to gain the world, yet forfeit his soul?” Always thought this was an appropriate description of this video. Maybe I’m wrong…but it resonates with me. Thanks for the re-upload! Great song :)
It's probably their masterpiece, subtle and complex. Both instrumentally and vocally I consider it their best performance. Great reaction! ( I think the gifted child likes the circus, because he's normal among the unusual people there)
@@insertgenericusernamehere2402 Lonely day might be one of Daron's best work (The song is his I'm pretty sure ), but Aerials is their undeniable peak. Other songs are the stuff of legend too ( The whole first album, Toxicity , steal this album and most of mezmerize/Hypnotize...

It was amazing watching your reaction to this gem :) "Swimming through the void we here the word, we lose ourselves but we find it all" something to think about in these marvelouse times.
After hearing tons of reactions to this song, your interpretation of it is seriously the most accurate i have ever heard. I thought of this the same way as you. I heard this song in High School but actually got deep in SOAD long after those days when i got a more appreciation for music.
I had forgotten how much I love this song! Thanks for this reaction. SOAD is just on another level for me, I was thinking what songs to suggest next but they have a crazy number of uniquely amazing songs, all their albums deserve a deep dive! Just some names that come to mind - Soldier Side, Hypnotize, Mr Jack, Holy Mountains, Cigaro, Radio Video, IEAIAIO, and countless more ...
Top reaction!! No need to doubt yourself Aileen!! Your so real! Your feelings, your thoughts, beautifully transferred into words... Keep it Up Sista!!🤘🤘🤘🎶🎶💯💯🎵🎵

Aerials and Spiders are my fav SOAD songs! Really expresses their range. They can do the whole psycho-circus punk-metal thing, but they can be quite beautiful and melodic as well. Such great harmonies, and great Bass work by Shavo. And John is one of the most underrated drummers; how does he keep up with these guys?
You're absolutely right about their range! I feel like Chop Suey is another great example of this. It's kind of a blend of this hardcore stuff with beautiful vocals.
Saw this band headline ozzfest mainstage in 02 and, it was, LEGIT the single most amazing live band experience I've ever had. I've seen hundreds of bands, and the only band that hit my feels more than SOAD live was Heart
I love your reaction to this so much because of your open perspective. I have often felt like I was interpreting songs (and therefore feeling songs) incorrectly. But when I see someone else saying “hey, maybe my interpretation is wrong but my feelings are real”, I realize that even if I’m not reading the song right my emotional reaction to it is still valid. Thanks for that, love your reactions❤
Loved the reaction! Could really see a connection with the music, and that was dope. With the trapeze artists, during the second verse I believe, you could see one of the acrobatics “left hanging,” so to speak. I believe that was a parallel drawn between the song’s message and what the boy is seemingly going through.
I always thought “Question?” is a song that best showcased some of that, “tasty harmony” - as you say - from the two vocalists (wait for that punchy chorus)…. Hope you get a chance to react to it!! 🤘🏼🎃🤘🏼
Oh hell yeah, SOAD is definitely one of my all time fave bands. Up there with Rush for me. One of those groups where you can listen to pretty much their entire discography without skipping many songs.
My first time on your channel. Love the reaction and also is that your current heart rate being displayed? What a cool concept for a reaction channel! Keep doing what you're doing and I have no doubt you'll continue to do well. New subscriber.
Imo. System of a Down is one of the artists where looking up the meaning of a song before you listen goes a very long way. Their writing is insanely good with incredible meaning
Ah yes.. a System of a Down classic right there.. I was glad when I got rid of that ear worm back then when it came out but thanks to Aileen's efford it's back again.. I bet when I go to bed tonight my brain will be like "hey dude.. you know what? AERIAAAAAAALS IN THE SKYYYYY"
Once you complete more of your System of A Down journey you should check out the first album from Serj Tankian (Lead singer from system) and the first album from Scars On Broadway (founded by Daron Malakian also from system of a down)
I saw them at OZ Fest in 2004 at Riverport Amphitheater in St. Louis along with Rob Zombie, and this was also the show that Ozzy announced that Sharon had beat cancer. I think System of the Down has a somewhat different view of the world maybe because they are of Armenian descent, but I can't say that for sure.
I definitely feel like a big part of the message in the song is that life is brief and chaotic, a "waterfall" between the long "river" before you're born and after you're gone. And so many people "want to play but never want to lose." They spend their life so obsessed with gaining something like fame or riches, with being a winner, that they don't actually enjoy the life they have
Hell ty, you're so emotional when you're feeling that shit ma'am. That's why we love ya too, keep it up. The Metal FrownFace is classic too. We all make it when we enjoy the jams. Hehehe
Given the nature of your videos, when you find a band that's new to you and you really like them, how difficult is it to avoid listening to more songs in your off-camera time? I feel like it would be incredibly hard
You should absolutely check out the covers of this and Toxicity, Chop Suey by Halocene with Lauren Babic and Violet Orlandi. Lauren will blow your mind with her screams and range.
I remember going to a rave in a circus tent similar the one in the beginning. Utah/Wen dover salt flats when I was younger. yes I'm old and raves were underground 😮
Amazing song, and amazing video. My takeaway from the visuals is a kid that's a "freak" in the circus, and lives a sheltered and lousy life. To compensate, he fantasizes about the models, money, fame, etc, but in the end comes back to the sad reality of his life.
Love this song. It's probably my favorite one to play on bass. Never could figure out the deal with that kid though, Is he like an alien hybrid or something
I think the alien kid represented how the band felt about their original sound, very unique and organic, and how their mainstream success and signing on with certain record labels catapulted them into fame but at the cost of perverting their message and overall vibe..
As a non-native speaker, your reaction was really emboldening. It isnt't just my small understanding of the lyrics, with SOAD it's much more than a simple misunderstanding, if you've got some portion of the lyrics wrong, it is allright as long a you've tried to interpret the lyrics in your way.
Bassist Shavo Odadjian has recently claimed the kid has a CGI face based on a transformation of his own face. This may not seem like a big deal this days, but that was a hell of a CGI effort back in 2001.. When I first saw the vid it made me feel like humans had been interbreeding with grays 👽
The setting is a circus tent on an alien planet. The kid represents a curious alien who likes the music and the fame. However after a little taste of the fame on earth where he’s treated like a freak and a curiosity figure he longs for his familiar environs..
If you want to react to the singer showing his talent check out his solo work. Look up "Serj Tankian Elect the Dead Symphony - Lie Lie Lie" It's a live show with the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra. There is an HD version that sounds incredible

You’re on the right track well done
You're spot on with the meaning, envying the freedom of the aerialists, also for more harmonies I recommend their song (and video) 'Question'
It's probably their masterpiece, subtle and complex. Both instrumentally and vocally I consider it their best performance. Great reaction! ( I think the gifted child likes the circus, because he's normal among the unusual people there)
