    I actually like the design of this car and I want one.

    I like the Civic's design, but its front and rear styling are a turn off. The General did a great job of not trying to hard to be different or youthful, and plays to the center of the market in style. It is conservative without being lame. Well played!

    Great job on the review! "Steering is a bit vague". I'm out right there. Haven't driven the new Civic, but the Focus has good steering feel and great utility with the hatch, but a bit small for me for how I use my car and needs the 6sp. in the manual. Want to try the new Honda Civic and latest Mazda 3 next. Previous gen Mazda 3 drove really well IMO.

    My 2017 has been a infotainment nightmare. It ended up being replaced after the first month. Cup holders are way to small and my big iPhone just doesn’t have a place to go. But I really like this cars quiet ride and get up and go when you need it.

    It seems that Chevy gave you ample of time Steve to review their cars - Camaro, Malibu and Cruze - consecutively base on your UA-cam Channel.
    For my taste I like this new Chevy Cruze than the 2016 Honda Civic. It has more to offer than just a sporty driving which the new Civic is the new benchmark. And the exterior shape of this new Cruze resembles a bit of the new Hyundai Elantra - designers limitation as usual. Can't wait for the Chevy Cruze and Honda Civic hatchbacks.

    This, the Impala blacked out edition and the new Malibu are very attractive cars worth owning... Good job Chevy and good video Steve... Could you imagine if they put a bigger engine in it and Called it the SS for the performance crowed.

      I don't see the big difference and the review didn't explain why this car is better executed than the Malibu. most outlets were impressed by both. this reviewer claims crude is near top of the class while Malibu is a letdown. No specifics were really offered. people buying cars in this class aren't looking for sports sedans and handling has never been the main selling point for the civic.

    • @stevehammes
      @stevehammes  8 років тому

      +Sheth Jones Well, it is now. And that was my point; though the Cruze can't match the handling prowess of the Civic, it's still an excellent compact. But the Civic delivers BOTH exciting handling AND excellent ride quality. Watch my Malibu review and you'll get a better understanding what makes the Cruze the more impressive car.

    • @shethjones4494
      @shethjones4494 8 років тому

      +TestDriveNow.com featuring Auto Critic Steve Hammes I think you misunderstood my point. I'm not saying the civic doesn't offer above average handling (which may appeal to you), I'm saying that is NOT a primary driver for purchases of that car. It hasn't been in the past and it likely never will be. In fact, if you look at how manufacturers have all but abandoned souped up factory FWD hot rod compacts its pretty obvious there really isn't much interest in hi performance cars in this segment. Knocking the Cruze for lacking paddle shifters or sports sedan handling misses the mark in regards to how it's owners will use the car. Also, I saw the Malibu review and I'm not understanding what the Malibu did so wrong vs the Cruze. Neither are sports sedans and neither offers HID or LED headlights. Both offer style, increased legroom in the rear, great infotainment and safety equipment and both have lost weight and gained MPGs. They applied the same formula to both cars.

      Our 04 Malibu v6 has been a very good car, and prob. has the best A C of any car/truck we have owned, the problem is getting in and out due to the rather high curb just inside the front door, that is why we just about always take my 07 Tacoma everywhere we go. I do enjoy your car review ...great job.

    Is the Civic really that good of a driver now? Better than the Mazda 3? I always knew the Civic wasn't no slouch but everyone always crowned the Mazda as the best. Gotta go check out the new Civic if that's true.
    Regarding the Cruze, Chevy did much better with it than they did with the Malibu. Would've never considered the Cruze until now. Looking forward to when the Cruze and Civic hatchbacks come around. So glad hatchbacks are making a comeback.

    so, its one of the biggest in class, one of the lightest, offers the highest power standard engine, offers top class fuel economy, and it has a better interior than found in the ford or honda. looks like a winner to me.

    Is this the great grandson of the Cavalier? I still like the looks of GM models. I had several GM (Chevy) cars. But that was until I bought my first Honda. That was in 2001. Now I'm on my second Honda. That's 2 cars in 15 years. I put over 150k on both. I could never get more than 75k out of my Chevy's. Long story short. I'll never purchase an American badge car (GM, Ford, Chrysler) again.

    Question. The EPA has listed a couple compact sedans as midsized. Most notably the Hyundai Elantra, Honda Civic, and forgettable Dodge Dart. Did the EPA gave the upgrade* to the Cruze?

    Buying Brand New Chevy Cruze Makes me Sad
    Dear car customers around the world:
    I bought a brand new Chevy Cruze, manual transmission, on December 10, 2016. One day after (December 11, 2016), while the car was parked at the curb, it rolled down the road hitting another car on its way down. I am sure that I had engaged the parking brake, indicated by the “!” symbol displayed in red on the instrument panel.
    I’ve been raising to General Motors Corporation (GMC) this question - why is it that the said Cruze, in neutral transmission, rolled down the slope even though the parking brake symbol, “!” (in red color), is displayed on the car’s instrument panel?
    The GMC explained that: “by design intent, the parking brake warning lamp on the instrument panel (!) will illuminate with the brake lever is raised to the first detent position (first audible click). However, this warning is not an indicator that the parking brake has been fully engaged. Specifically, the Chevrolet Cruze Owner’s Manual Instructs the owner to pull firmly (on the lever) without pressing the release button, in order to engaged the parking brake correctly. The primary purpose of illuminating the park brake warning lamp, even when the parking brake is not fully engaged, is to prevent the operator from driving the vehicle with parking brakes partially engaged.” (letter sent to me by GMC dated April 11, 2017).
    I disagree with the above explanation by GMC. I maintain that a technical deficiency persists between the engagement of parking brakes with respect to the warning light (!). The Cruze Owner’s Manual does not state anything related to partially-engaged and fully-engaged parking brakes with same warning light (!) displayed on the instrument panel.
    I am submitting GMC’s explanation, as quoted above, for your views and comments. Thank you and drive safely.
