  • Most people prefer the Honda Civic, Toyota Corolla, and Ford Focus over the Chevrolet Cruze. With the new 2016 Cruze, you owe it to yourself to not be like most people.
The turbocharged 1.4-liter 4-cylinder that used to be optional for the Eco trim is now the only engine in the Cruze. It makes 153 horsepower and 177 lb-ft of torque, up 17 hp and 54 lb-ft from the former naturally aspirated 1.8-liter four. With greater grunt from below and 250 fewer pounds to push, this engine never feels like it’s working hard. Our car’s 6-speed automatic left itself in higher gears without bogging the engine, even when accelerating mildly on inclines. Most cars in this class will hunt for lower gears while upshifting constantly to save fuel, leading to abrupt, jerky motions that’ll make you wish you bought a better car. Not here. The automatic’s ratios are nearly perfect, and when a shift is needed, it’s quick and painless. At full throttle, the Cruze builds speed confidently and smoothly. Chevrolet Cruze: 1st Generation: 2008-2015.
    Chevrolet Cruze: 2nd Generation: 2016-2019.
    R.I.P. Chevrolet Cruze.
Thank you for watching your video. It is good.

Purchased the 2016 Cruze LT RS with the 6-speed manual transmission, and it's awesome! Very comfortable to drive, even on long trips. infotainment system works great, and integrates seamlessly with my Android operated phone. And I do have to say the Kinetic blue metallic is a very sharp color. all and all I highly recommend this vehicle if you are looking for good creature comforts, superior gas mileage, and fun to drive.

You can turn off the auto stop by putting shifter in the L6 position and the auto stop is disabled.

I bought a 2016 Chevy Cruze LT a week ago. I got a great day, I believe. I have only ad it a week so far but I do enjoy it. The stop/start took some getting use to but doesn't bother me now. I am disappointed on my MPG so far, mix of city & highway. Overall, I do like it.

I would definitely buy the Cruze over the other models in the segment, if for no other reason the sharp looks front and somewhat in the rear, the interior features and just the whole ambiance inside the interior. I love the models with the terracotta colored leather to contrast the interior, it's really beautiful. I think I would have to get one with that color leather. Not only that, the refinement, the dashboard is very striking to look at. I really love the gauges , the steering wheel. The steering wheel is heated, front and rear seats are heated, which is not that common in this segment, at least not in the rear seats. I also like that it doesn't have a CVT transmission, unlike the Civic and the Corolla. Overall, I just think that it's really striking to look at all around, especially the Premier with the RS package, they didn't miss anything on those. Plus everybody that's reviewed it has raved about the stereo, the navigation, Bluetooth, and basically everything except maybe the acceleration. But I know that it would be adequate for me. And it also has incredible efficiency, getting around 38mpg on the highway. I would actually like to see it in hatch version.

I have a 2017 Cruze LT with no override on the auto stop. The way I found how to override it. Put the shifter down to what I call (L) mode, use the (+) button on the shifter until 6 shows on the instrument panel. The car will still shift automatically and will not auto stop.

I'd always go for the Cruze over the others. I'm very particular about my cars. I'll only drive American or German. The exception to this is if I was offered an Italian sports car or super car.

As a First gen owner (i'm currently leasing a 2015) I took a test drive of the new Cruze. Overall, it is a solid car and improves on my car (which I felt was already a success). The only thing I'm uncomfortable with on the new Cruze is the Start/Stop. I really found it to be annoying for the most part. It will be interesting to see if this feature is given an option to turn off in future models or removed altogether.

Totally agree Scott, I test-drove a 2017 Chevrolet Cruze Diesel last year with the "Start/Stop" mode and I have to admit it was my least favorite of the new options this vehicle comes with. Fortunately the "Start/Stop" mode could be disabled in the Cruze Diesel I test-drove, so maybe eventually all Chevy Cruze units will be designed with the option to disable it. The only problem with the vehicle I test-drove was, you had to disable the "start/stop" mode every single time you turned on the car!

Great review! I'm a big fan of the Cruze. A few years ago in '12, I got the Focus instead. If I was in the market now, I'd totally get the Cruze. The Focus is dated now and still uses that terrible dual clutch transmission (with which I've had issues). The Cruze is excellent value compared to the competition. Plus it's quiet, rides well, good space, great mileage! The meat of the market is looking for something like this and Chevy finally has what they want. There is no way to turn off the stop/start system, but for the length of time you'd be stopped, it wouldn't be a huge deal. I've heard good reviews about it so I don't think it would bother me. My opinion though. Someone else may think differently. But I think, if you value a more relaxed, refined experience than a sporting one, then the Cruze is a must on the shopping list.

Ford is stopping all car production (except for Mustang) in North America. The 2019 Focus won't be available here. We were originally going to get the Focus Active, but we won't be getting that either (blame it on The Donald).

I'm assuming the AC Compressor is belt driven so when the engine stops only the blower motor is draining the 12V battery.

Resale value? For that alone, the Civic, might get the nod if I was looking for an affordable small(er) 4 door sedan for daily use. I also think at that price, it competes with mid sized cars as well. I just picked up my company car, 2017 Ford Fusion SE with the 1.5L and 6sp. automatic. It's sticker price is 25,500 and comes with 17" alum wheels, plus options over SE package of reverse sensing, auto-start/stop with an physical disable button on center console and DRLs. Seats are cloth, but feel premium with 10 way power on drivers and 6 way on passengers but no heat however. I could consider a lower cost version of the Cruze (with manual), but when adding options, the price gets up there and I know where my money would go.

Great Review. I would consider this car over the outdated Focus and Dodge Dart. Also, this interior seems nicer than the Corolla. I would still put the Civic Touring over this car because it is cheaper fully loaded than this car.

    • @ironsaber2
      @ironsaber2 8 років тому +2

i priced up a fully loaded civic and found there are things in a cruze you can't get in a civic. this car maxed out freight included with the rs package( aero and 18" rims) sun and sound, technology and convenience package was $30 150. the civic was about 3 or 4 thousand more once you added 17" alloys and an aero package. the cruze at that price also has things like auto high beams. the base premier vs touring is 4 grand and the difference between elantra limited and cruze premiere is 2 grand in favor of chev every time. still a tough choice between the 2. i really enjoyed test driving the cruze but i will have to test drive a civic touring before i buy or lease my next vehicle

I'm interested in the Cruze but commute in heavy traffic each work day in 90 degree weather. Worried about the stop/start draining the battery while the A/C is running.

Aesthetically the vehicle is pretty nice, but unlike its competition, Chevy doesn't have a sporty-like trim similar to the Civic Si or Ford ST. When comparing it with the perspective of an economy car only, it holds up pretty good with Honda Civic being first, Chevy Cruze second, and Ford Focus last.

I rented the Chevy Cruze and compared it to my 2008 Scion xB with 2.4 litre engine. The Scion (with the Toyota Camry engine) is way more powerful the second you step on the gas...no turbo lag as in the Chevy Cruze.

Dear car customers around the world:
I bought a brand new Chevy Cruze, manual transmission, on December 10, 2016. One day after (December 11, 2016), while the car was parked at the curb, it rolled down the road hitting another car on its way down. I am sure that I had engaged the parking brake, indicated by the “!” symbol displayed in red on the instrument panel.
I’ve been raising to General Motors Corporation (GMC) this question - why is it that the said Cruze, in neutral transmission, rolled down the slope even though the parking brake symbol, “!” (in red color), is displayed on the car’s instrument panel?
The GMC explained that: “by design intent, the parking brake warning lamp on the instrument panel (!) will illuminate with the brake lever is raised to the first detent position (first audible click). However, this warning is not an indicator that the parking brake has been fully engaged. Specifically, the Chevrolet Cruze Owner’s Manual Instructs the owner to pull firmly (on the lever) without pressing the release button, in order to engaged the parking brake correctly. The primary purpose of illuminating the park brake warning lamp, even when the parking brake is not fully engaged, is to prevent the operator from driving the vehicle with parking brakes partially engaged.” (letter sent to me by GMC dated April 11, 2017).
I disagree with the above explanation by GMC. I maintain that a technical deficiency persists between the engagement of parking brakes with respect to the warning light (!). The Cruze Owner’s Manual does not state anything related to partially-engaged and fully-engaged parking brakes with same warning light (!) displayed on the instrument panel.
I am submitting GMC’s explanation, as quoted above, for your views and comments. Thank you and drive safely.
    Do you believe GMC's explanation?

Don't ever buy GM. Various mechanical pieces are likely to break when you hit around 40000 miles. And that is the point beyond the bumper to bumper warranty. Terrible resale value. Research on the interenet. Also if you are in the market for a new car, don't watch reviews like these on youtube. They just review what can be seen with the eyes like the quality of the plastic in the interior. Most of the things in a car that matter in a car like mechanical reliability and trustworthiness of a brand cannot be seen with eyes and are not touched on by these poor youtube reviewers. Go to sites like consumeraffairs or car complaints to assess the long term reliability of a car. Watch youtube reviews only to pass the time. Don't make a decision based on these. You're going to regret it.
