    Should be considered that diversifying on bargain bin cards is still the smartest play - one off season move takes the obscure talent and makes them relevant again. It’s not always a linear path as you describe. When you only ‘invest’ in psa 10 or above you put yourself on your own cliff. There are smarter plays than that.

    So you're saying worthless, eh? Sounds familiar! Pretty straightforward trajectory - Rookies have potential, cards go up as people speculate - Rookie potential is realized, value is split between good vs. bad players - Interest / prices shift to follow suit. Print runs simply add another hammer.

    • @canoak768
      @canoak768 4 роки тому

      His analysis unfairly designates a "worthless" value to cards below $100. It's funny because, Mitchell Robinson from 2018, just sold for $90. The same guy Geoff recommended years ago. I suppose $90 is not relevant.

    Only longterm holds: Luka & Giannis.
    Best values factoring in opportunity cost & risk to reward from a in season to few year flip: Booker, Herro, Ja, Ingram, Mitchell & Murray.
    High risk/high reward: Zion.

    draft class quality is something you didn’t really touch on a lot 2013 2014 and 2015 are just not good classes overall especially the first 2 i agree there is risk in certain guys but there’s a lot to be consider more than just look at the card drop off when those classes weren’t really strong to begin with

    • @SportsCardInvestor
      @SportsCardInvestor  4 роки тому +1

      But.... back in 2013, 2014 and 2015, did people think they weren’t good draft classes? Or did we only learn that over time? How do we know that 2019 was a strong draft class? We won’t really know for a few more years.

    Isn’t 100 an arbitrary number to say those players are “at risk”?

    • @SportsCardInvestor
      @SportsCardInvestor  4 роки тому +2

      I picked $100 because, IMO, with grading fees being what they are now, it’s likely not worth getting a raw card graded unless the PSA 10 can fetch $100 or more on the open market.

    • @PMac

      That’s the great thing about this hobby - all of us have different bars to measure things. If you set it lower or use PSA 9s as a measure it doesn’t invalidate the reasoning.

      @@SportsCardInvestor makes sense. Plenty of those other guys are a lot more risky investments at their higher prices vs some guys around 100 being arguably more undervalued so just trying to piece together the perspective, thanks.

    Players like Sekou, Keldon Johnson and Kevin Porter Jr. Are 19 and 20 yrs old. So I doubt that their cards fall fast after this coming season if they don't blow up. Alot of "card investors" are buying them because of their age and current skill set. So they will not give up on them that fast

    Hi Geoff,though you have made some valid points. One thing I would like to point out is that the hobby only picked up this much heat in the last 18 months. Of course guys from previous years will be cheap. Some of their cards may have only gone over the $100 threshold this year.

      Saw Jalen Hurts fill in yesterday for a benched Wentz; the players rallied behind him, but he threw a bad pick too. Jordan Love might not be bad to grab on the cheap (that's how I got my Rodgers rookies in 2005), Brandon Aiyuk is pretty solid as is Justin Jefferson. I think Tua might be the big QB to grab, if that's your thing--they're winning with him. Burrow is going to fall more into the Carson Wentz/Blake Bortles/Marcus Mariota category I think. Herbert is smoke and mirrors and is being exposed as the season drags on
