Thank you so much for breaking down the different card types. I’m watching a lot of videos and no one is breaking them down and they use the different card types in an industry way that makes you feel alienated a little. I’m back to collecting after 20+ years of being away from the hobby so this is really helpful. Thanks for doing this.

Always buy the next big rookie! They always turn into gold! Brien Taylor, Todd Van Poppel, Tim Couch,Ryan Leaf,Greg Oden, Jamarcus Russell, RG3, Johnny Manziel, Shohei Ohtani. 😂😂
Great video! One thing I’ve learned and would add…eBay is obviously a great place to buy singles, but it’s also the way collectors value a cards worth (by looking at how much a card has recently sold for). So if you get a good deal for a card on eBay, ultimately you just lowered its value a bit as well. This is why I try to finds deals at cards shows or other websites. Unfortunately there isn’t a Becket magazine anymore like we had in the 90’s lol
The one thing most people don't know is that in Prizm the Green Parallel is more rare than the Silver. Basically there are less Green than Silver..but like you said, the Silver is more shiner.. more appealing to the eye. Green parallel is cool if you get players from the Celtics, Bucks, Philly Eagles, ect. I think if people realized that the Green is more rare I still don't think it would be matter...the Silver is just to appealing..and by now it would be hard to convince people otherwise.
Hey E man. Great point. Green prizm is personally one of the least desirable parallels for me UNLESS it's one of those green jersey teams like you mention. Seeing a Chicago Bulls player in a green prizm is like looking at an ugly Christmas sweater lol
I made most of my profit selling cards before the nba playoffs and nfl season started because I decided to buy early and sell to investors getting in late. Only a few great investments were made from amazing performances (Damian Lillard and Brayden Point)
Nice one Brad! If only everyone new to the hobby could watch this. I think we all get swept up at the start on all the excitement and just want some cards to hold and admire asap! Doing research first is always better but most of us don’t haha. Sweet content as always 😉👊
A good friend of mine just told me about this I am doing research before I start buying or go standing in line for hours I’m going to continue watching videos subscribing to different channels and taking notes
@@dilynmcreynolds7325 that’s definitely the best way to do it. Soak up what you can and after several weeks you can start making a few plays for yourself. There’s opportunities everywhere but just need to do your own research and the pieces start to fall into place a bit more. Enjoy the ride! 🤘👍
For Baseball especially recent rookie cards and not "prospects" the go to products would be Topps "flagship" - Series 1, Series 2, and Topps update (but these will come down to the players in the checklist in that year) And usually the first set they appear in, out of the above sets is the desired card to collect. Also Topps Chrome, Topps Chrome Update, Topps Sapphire are also desired sets. But do your research, compare prices, compare market fluctuation over a number of months before investing. If just starting out spend time researching before jumping in. 👍
Great tips! I'd edit your comment about "Focus ONLY buying rookie cards" with "Focus on buying rookie cards FIRST. If not in your budget, then look at the next best alternatives (2nd year cards, rare inserts, high eye appeal, low pop, etc)"
Been in the hobby for over 20 years! Been using all the new stuff to sell, flip and buying vintage! Like my 1955 Bowman Mantle! I go after prizm and optic in the team colors!
Been in retail in years & a crazy sports fan. Been collecting & flipping sports memorabilia for decades online which has really helped during covid to keep the lights on... Always watched videos on UA-cam for sports & a lot of player research. Never thought of looking for vids on collecting... Good job... You have a new subscriber...
Awesome DJ. Thanks for sharing and happy to have you a part of the community. This hobby has been such a light during this dark time. Have a great week!
To the youngsters out there, his first few words are key. When investing, in anything, you must *constantly* fight/subdue emotion when making decisions. This plays out just as strongly in things like the stock market. Patience and control of your emotions and probably the two most important ingredients to creating a sound investor.
I'm new to all of this, but I looked into grading, and PSA is charging $200 per card. I don't understand why this fee is so high. I know cards are more likely to sell at a higher rate if they are graded, but how are we supposed to make any money if the fees are this high? Am I missing something?
I’ve been into the hobby for about 3 weeks now and I just stumbled upon this video. I can tell you I did everything you said not to do in my first 3 weeks 🤣: Bought flashy random cards, bought the most hyped players (Zion, Ja), bought random sets besides prizm, and clicked on eBay all day and night. I’m gonna take a step back and invest more wisely because I’m losing brain cells and my wallet has a hole in it 😂
haha hey HobbyCards. Yeah I feel you. It's so much fun at first and really easy to justify all those flashy emotional buys as "savvy investments" when they're really not at all. We all live and learn. I just made a $2800 mistake that I'll be sharing in a video coming up soon.
Got my pen & pad out for most of your videos. Very well orchestrated & easy to understand, just got back into sports cards, going through & sorting out all my old stuff is so fulfilling. Keep it up!
Man, i went through my closet and found my 90s era bball cards and I felt like a kid again. Now that I am an adult I did some research and I feel like im sucked back in 100% glad I found u!
hey man! Yeah Donruss paper is like a less expensive version of Optic. Very liquid card so you should be able to sell it for sure, just not for as much as Prizm/Select/Optic
So would you buy a Mookie Betts 2015 purple prizm card number 40 out of 99 PSA 10 population 2. I mean to me $60 is a very fair investment on that card considering the low pop and everything else there’s only 99 of them in the world
Sounds reasonable to me, but the first question I ask myself is "what is the sales history of this card or comparable cards to find a reasonable price?" Without sales history, I'm lost and it's a guessing game.
@@TheComebackCardInvestor that’s the thing with cards. They have to be held onto for such an exorbitant amount of time and less they’re like the top five athletes that everybody collects you know they got to be hold onto forever and ever and ever to be actually become with money
How about buying a slab that has a pressing for a chea price? Would this be a smart investment? Because im about to buy a silver prizm sga psa 9 for a super low price, apparently the slab has some minor pressing
@@hguapo the lakers are stacked but when he gets a chance to actually play he should do better than most rookies. Look at Giannis nobody though he was great his first year
@@Travisboulrice in my opinion, the pressure of playing in LA and living up to his brothers hype he just won’t have the same motor as giannis. however i hope i’m wrong
If you believe in him, go for it! I haven't seen nearly enough of Kostas to buy in, but you never know. Both Manning brothers had success, but then again, Chris Gronkowski didn't have a fraction of the career as his brother, Rob.
For Hockey, low-end = Upper Deck Series 1 & 2 for Young Guns, mid-tier = SP Authentic for Future Watch. The Cup is the high-end product but it's not as liquidable and also the thick card stock usually does not get a good grading. Also note that majority of your buyers will be Canadians, meaning if you live in the States, you might have to reduce your sales price to compete with Canadian sellers because the Canadian buyers have to pay sales tax for imported goods.
Hey K Lee. Good point. Most buyers of my Brayden Point/ V Hedman/Stamkos cards have been Canadien and eBay shipping also jumps to $10 for their international rate. I wish hockey was way more popular in the states. It's such a great sport!!
Hey Oliver. Definitely not. Focus on what you know and enjoy most. I would say NBA probably has the biggest market share globally and the players are on the court most of the time unlike some of the other sports where there's offense vs defense
@@TheComebackCardInvestor ok, I love watching the nba and am definitely going to be invested in that. However, compared to the impact soccer has globally being the most worldwide sport I've found that the market's been too low to stay that way since the crash and I'm going to be very interested to see what happens in preparation for the World Cup in 2022.
Hey man, I like that u also suggest other channels for us to watch. U earned a follower for that. This hobby is all about building each other up and not pulling each other down. :)
I sold a majority of my collection for 6,000 last July, and I was stoked! At the time I had 9 big name RCs being graded via Beckett. Ive been collecting for about 30yrs so ive got a idea of the worth, but I"d love to have your opinion.
Good video. I would also mention to your audience to be careful when buying "rookie" cards on ebay. I saw someone selling Patrick Mahomes 2nd year card as rookie card. Like you said, very important that people know the sport and most importantly, the players.
Great point, Robert. There's a ton of intentional and unintentional errors on eBay. I like using COMC as a reference to make sure I know what cards should look like. Have a great NYE, man!
collected when i was young, went thru my cards and found two topps big ben rookie cards and a phillip rivers rookie. they look honestly in great condition, except for one big ben had a very small little corner problem. should i still send them to get graded??
Hey Jake. "Looks great" means probably PSA 8. Get a magnifying lamp and then watch videos on how to scour for flaws. If everything looks absolutely perfect, then you may have a PSA 9. It's strict!
Grading is a joke....most “Investor Graders will resubmit the same card multiple times to get a higher grade. This shows it’s nothing more then a money grab for the grading company and flipper. Grading is a joke.
great tips, i am just starting to get into this hobby. i find this very nostalgic of when i used to collect baseball cards as a kid. just wondering cuz you mentioned to focus on buying rookie cards, but what about also buying cards when a player changes teams (i.e lebrons first year in a laker jersey)?
Hey Chonger. Welcome and great question. 1st year jersey cards definitely attract some interest, but not nearly as easy to determine as RCs. Lebron/AD 1st year Lakers cards skyrocketed in July/August but have cooled tremendously. While I expect them to hold some long term value because they actually won, thus building their legacy in LA, I see them as better short term flip opportunities, especially because the players may not win a championship (Kawhi with the Clippers, KD with Brooklyn, etc)
Too add to this...I think it depends on the team they go too. Lakers are one of the more Iconic franchises in all of sports. Honestly I think it comes down to two things. One, does the player have an individual fan base (ie. Lebron Fans compared to Cavalier fans) and also how popular the franchise is. Think Lakers, Yankees, Celtics...those kinda teams. Both of those combined I think made first year Laker Lebron cards popular. Still though, they have to build some kind of legacy or they ultimately or they probably go down.
I bought some nice baseball cards from the 60s and 70s. Spent about $150. A 1970 nolan Ryan topps, A Roberto Clemente 1970 topps, Rod Carew, 1970 topps, A Pete rose, 1971, topps, a few Hank Aaron's, a lot of really nice cards. I felt I got a pretty good deal. Over 50 stars in the stack. Just starting to get back in the swing of things
Hello. Can any one who is an expert tell me when PSA allows 60/40 centering on the front of a PSA Gem 10 card? I've looked at hundreds of cards now from the early 80's to the present and couldn't find a card with worse than 55/45 centering in either direction on the front. This is in spite of the fact that PSA says in their grading description on their web site that the front centering standard is, "not to exceed approximately 55/45 to 60/40 percent on the front. I'm puzzled.
That’s definitely beyond my scope of expertise but I jotted down your question and will keep it in mind next time I talk to a grading pro. If you post this question during a livestream, there’s a good chance you’ll get some solid feedback. Have a great Thursday!
when he mentioned the “baby picture analogy” this kinda reminds me of what we’re seeing with squirtle or charmander in the pokemon world as prices continue to sky rocket 🚀
@@_jax_1077 a card that’s not graded. So like you pull a card from a pack or buy a card online. It’s just considered a raw card. When you get it graded from a company it’s not raw anymore. It has protection because it is encased with a grade.
Stick to 100 cards or less....if u buy 1 more, u gotta sell 1. BGS over PSA due to sub grades. Refractors over base. 90s over 00s and 10s. fleer over upper deck/ hopps, inserts of 10 or less.
Hey Andrew. Yeah I like the 100 or less tip. I'm at the point where COMC has all my cheap cards and grading/storing/organizing cards is more of a chore than a pleasure so I'll be scaling up to less cards of higher value. Thanks for the insight!
For higher end football/basketball, I would also add Contenders and National Treasures. Also rookie autos are very underappreciated now. People will eventually realize how overprinted the base cards are, especially in the last few years. Guys can only sign so many autos, so those have some inherent rarity, and are also much cooler than just a piece of paper. I also like your rule about not paying more than a PSA 8 value raw. I have a similar rule which is that I'll assess it online (just stay away from anything in a sleeve or toploader) and then pay no more than 1 grade less than what I think it is. If you're less experienced with grading, this rule should be 2 grades less. So if you think something looks like a PSA 7, pay no more than the PSA 5 value.
good call great advice typically when ya buy raw your lookin for a significant deal but its a good rule since your never 100% what condition your gettin even when claiming mint ive gotten dings
Hey Conor. With Prizm's release, Mosaic "should" lose attention and value. Also, with Burrow's injury, the 2020 class has dropped in value overall. If you can stand to hold, I would hold. I don't see a premium on Mosaic cards at this moment with the injuries/Prizm/winding down of the NFLs season.
Hey Viking Bros. That chart was off of a tool called Market Movers where you can pull up different cards and compare the two. Card Ladder is another tool that you will see me use from time to time. Check them both out!
Hi just found your channel so thanks 🙏 I’m thinking to buy some rookie cards in nba and other sports for a 20 to 25 years and then sell any advice would be appreciated thanks 🙏
Giving advice is always risky. Yours was great. It’s obvious you put a lot of thought into your video and I watched it through. Thank you! Extremely helpful and exactly what I was hoping to find
Idk if this is a dumb question, but I’ve been a collector and I kind of want to get into investing and selling cards, is a card of a player in their first year with a new team worth more than a different year? And I’m assuming the rookie card is still more valuable but how does it compare with that? (E.g. a 2020 Tom Brady for the bucs)
Hey George. Welcome and that's a great question. All I can speak to is what I have observed so far...and that is more demand around an all time great in a new team's uniform. However, I believe there's a good chance that this is temporary and is tied to the success of that player with that team. I don't know of any collectors that want Brett Favre Vikings/Jets cards or MJ collectors that want his Wizard cards. What's I'll be doing is selling those cards at a decent profit if I can buy them low enough vs trying to 3x my money on them. Even LBJ's Lakers cards have fallen off a cliff so I don't see them as being nearly as desirable as a serial #d card, RC, or perhaps 2nd year
Good tips. Topps Heritage for baseball can also be good depending on the year. They recreate the flagship design from 40 years prior. So some designs are going to be more sought after than others. Or if the year they are recreating had a great rookie class, that can also add to the hunt. Also gotta double down on Young Guns for hockey. Outside of maybe the Cup RPAs, it has been the gold standard for Rookies for like 20 years now. Despite being 'low end', the right players can go well into the 4 digits.
I'm looking at getting back into card collecting so this video was awesome!! Thank you so much for putting this together. One question that I have is what do you do with all the cards that don't have value and are just normal cards? Back when I was a kid it was fun to collect the whole team or player groups to show off to my friends. As an adult, that isn't as much of a draw, so what do you do with those "undesirable" cards?
Hey Matt. Great question. For those cards, donating them is great. I heard The Boys and Girls Club take them. Besides that, they just take up space and collect dust. Thanks for your positive feedback!
Great advice! Just found my old baseball cards, got excited, started trying to find cards in stores and found out we're in some weird boom. Probably induced by Covid and inflation.
Similar to the concerns of other card hobbies like Pokemon that are riding the hype wave right now, do you think that we might encounter a bubble in the sports card market? If so (e.g. due to overproduction of certain rookie cards), do you see that as being a potential problem for hyped sets in the past few years, or, rather, for future sets yet to be released? (Looking at long-term value)
Hey Lucky Pepe. Definitely concerned. I felt like summer was a giant bubble and then it popped and it will happen repeatedly. The longer this goes on, the more I would focus on older cards (at least 2017 or older) The pop reports of recent rcs are insane. Perhaps parallels and serial numbered cards of 2017-2020 make more sense too
PSA for quick money, selling off centered 10s to new collectors. BGS is for serious collection and longterm investment. Select brand is greatly undervalued also!
I bought 10 raw Donruss Roberto Alomar rookie cards. I negotiated down to a dollar a card because the picture was not guaranteed. Glad I did. 8 of the cards were off centered. That is fine , I will sell them for $5, knowing that even if I end up selling them for $2, I am still making money. The lesson, don't be afraid to negotiate and leverage your position that the seller cannot guarantee condition. Be the risk inverse investor.
Hey Kaden. That’s tough but you can look at PWCCs market price research tool to see if any were recently sold, but more than likely you’ll have to compare different complimentary players and find a ratio that works. I wouldn’t gets started there as it requires a lot more nuance imo
Personally I like Mosaic a lot of feel it has a ton of potential. I'm just waiting to see how it evolves in the coming years. This upcoming NBA season will be a good start. I just don't want its prices to die off the second Prizm is released. Beautiful card though
Kevin Durant!!! Buy now while they’re cheap. He’s not Kobe but he is already HOF will go down as one of the greatest all time. His cards are low now and if he comes back on a mission, watch those prices soar!
@@TheComebackCardInvestor absolutely love KD cards more but Harden is definitely a great long term investment. You can get most of his low end stuff cheap and if you look back the last 8 years he’s gone from 25 ppg to the last 3 years 30+ ppg. He’s the Dan Marino of basketball though lol. No chip!
@Paul Pagoda wow that does seem a little longer than usual. Weird that they offered points but maybe it’s because like you said with Covid they weren’t able to obtain it. I wouldn’t take the points over the auto though because the auto could bring in a decent return. I guess it depends on if they’ll even give it though. Sucks!
My dad tried to get me into collecting when I was very young, I ignored him and didn't want to do it. I am older now in my 20s and I am getting into it, I am very blessed to have a lifelong collector on my side. He has been giving me his duplicates and sets that he doesn't value as much. I am very happy to get into the card game! This is very fun, I wish I would of considered it more when I was a kid!
Hey Josh, personally, I like base Prizm more because I can buy more, sell some over time, hold others. If the player is very proven I'll go with silver, but I def don't want $50+ on a player who could be out of the league in 3 years
Hey TEE MONEY. There are always deals to be found in every price range. Check out one of my latest videos "Sports Card Investing 101: How Much Should I Pay for a Card?" That's pretty much how I process if there's a deal or not
I got his orange refractor rookie for $20 bucks and shipping. I have a lot of Russell wilson rookie jersey and 1 auto. I have the score 2012 variation set. I have russell wilson and Lucks graded 9 but I have every insert and 2 set of a more 2012 and the 50 variation
Hey Aaron. Of course. 15% is steep so that's always something to include with projections. It's kind of like selling a house. You know there will be 6% minimum taken so you have to do the math ahead of time and see what you're willing to sell for or what you can do to stretch your margin. Selling in FB/IG groups is another option but that requires some time and risk as well.
Observations on baseball cards: Tools Update Rookie Cards and their shirt print variations of superstars seem to do well. The Update version is released well into the Summer, so the hot prospects would’ve been called up by then.
if you have a certain player on a certain card, the potential is limitless. I pass up on the Jordan's rookie psa 10 like 5 times, when it was around $7k. no regrets because I think his '84 card is the true Rookie. The best advise I can give to people is make a decision on the player(s) you want and move on. Learn to find that sweet window spot. If you think you've missed it, there will be other players.
I really enjoyed the insightful video! Should I wait until the beginning of the 20-21 NBA season, or am I able to capitalize right now as we speak with last seasons cards?
Thank man. I always want to buy low, sell high for my investments which means buying when the data shows low prices...which is typically when the hype isn't there and people don't have the money. I feel like September-now is the best time to stock up for next year because of holiday spending, preseason hype, stimulus checks, etc.
What are your thoughts on holding BGS 10 cards long term? I have a few Russell Wilson BGS 10s out of Topps & Topps Chrome, and I'm curious if these could be worth a good bit more down the line versus now.
There are only 9 Topps base and 27 Chrome base graded as 10s, and I can't imagine many more will be added to that since his rookie year was 8 years ago.
Hey man. Lucky to just see this. Because it’s Russell Wilson, if it were me, I’d hold until either he’s heading to a super bowl or you have a better place to put your money. I like Russell for the next few years so there’s plenty of chances imo. Plus, BGS looks to be in a slump compared to psa. Hopefully they’ll rebound and will be more desirable as a grading company as a whole (though you’re golden with the 10s). Merry Christmas!
Nice video after 9 years of not buying card I entered in the Luka Hype on Aug without knowing nothing. Now I’m doing my research trying to recuperate money and sell the corrects cards.
You're not alone. Many people got caught up and have to use it as a learning lesson but it's all good. Just remember the Warren Buffet quote: Be fearful when everyone else is greedy and greedy when everyone else is fearful. I've had to remind myself of that quote many times so I don't get wrapped up with everyone else. Have a great week!
I'm just getting back into this hobby after about two decades (used to collect when I was a kid). So do you recommend investing in individual cards rather than boxes/cases? I've been hearing a lot about buying slots in group breaks (esp for Panini Prizm boxes) and how that's the most cost-efficient.
Would be interested to hear your thoughts on 1/1 cards. Obviously agree rookie cards will always be the major focus but 1/1 cards from non rookie years (using the Lebron James yr 8 example you used) can still carry alot of value. Great vid, hope to get a response to this comment!!
For sure. 1/1s of icons are super valuable, just tough to assess a fair value when you can't easily compare it to other similar cards. Even other 1/1s could be from more or less desirable sets.
Not sure I agree with the value comparison for Wilson/Mahommes. It's not always about production or stats. Sometimes players become popular just for being popular. There are many INSANELY good players who are cheap just depending on their position and popularity.
Very true about popularity. Tim Duncan/Kawhi Leonard are great players that very few people care to collect while I personally invested in Gronkowski solely for his child like personality. At the same time, I still felt like people were overpaying for Mahomes based on what they thought he would do this season and completely ignoring other QBs. It's always a combination of factors to why we like and collect cards/players.
What about the Panini One sets for football? How would you value those? Edit: Or, other sets like immaculate and what not. They are pricey boxes but are they worth it? or buying singles on ebay out of these sets?
Rookie question here: are the low valuations for the sets you mentioned such as revolution, Phoenix, chronicle etc. an opportunity to diversify at a low price/high risk investment? Is that a slow game worth playing? Thanks in advance!
Probably not, at least not generally. If you loop it into his points on rookie cards it can be. A chronicle PSA 10 Herbert would go for a good amount but it’s only for high end players
Nice video!!! You mention select, and said select is for hobby box collecting. So collectors are not interested in those types of cards? For example a derek Carr select card? Thank you
Good advice. Great advice. But if you're just getting into cards now, the ship is already sailing away for any star rookie card in any of the major sports. The market is exploding with the perfect storm of variables. Covid, 'stimulus' checks (they're just giving us our money back), media hype, globalization, etc.. It won't be too long before it will be virtually impossible for the general public to have access to coveted rookie cards. We are seeing it every day with constantly increasing purchase prices for the big names, combined with new money pouring into the market that has ever-increasing demand with fixed supply if we're talking rookies. You gotta just jump into the madness before it's too late. Before the sb I bought 3 Brady bowman chrome rookies. I've doubled my investment value and it was 2 days after I decided to get back into cards after a 20 year break since childhood. You're biggest mistake is watching Amazon stock skyrocket over the past year pushing so high that the average investor can't afford it. We're seeing the same curve with sports stars and their rookies. And the increasing rookie card prices are pulling up the later year cards with them.
Thank you so much for breaking down the different card types. Been in the hobby for over 20 years! Been using all the new stuff to sell, flip and buying vintage! Like my 1955 Bowman Mantle! I go after prizm and optic in the team colors!
I’ve been doing the same for the last 8 years and it’s been a fun ride.
Nice! I love that idea too. Flip the flash, and stock pile the gold!

To the youngsters out there, his first few words are key. When investing, in anything, you must *constantly* fight/subdue emotion when making decisions. This plays out just as strongly in things like the stock market. Patience and control of your emotions and probably the two most important ingredients to creating a sound investor.
Thanks Farhad...and being able to know when you're being emotional vs logical is a wonderful skill to develop. Have a great evening!
What about investing in a share portion of a high end card?
That’s a cool concept I’ve never thought of that
I'm new to all of this, but I looked into grading, and PSA is charging $200 per card. I don't understand why this fee is so high. I know cards are more likely to sell at a higher rate if they are graded, but how are we supposed to make any money if the fees are this high? Am I missing something?
Appreciate the honesty! Felt like the video was a good length not too long with helpful info!
thanks Joaquin! I appreciate your feedback!
If you were buying the dip and had about 5k to spend would you get the Lebron Rookie Topps 221 PSA 10 or the Luka Doncic Silver Prizm PSA 10? Thanks.
Got my pen & pad out for most of your videos. Very well orchestrated & easy to understand, just got back into sports cards, going through & sorting out all my old stuff is so fulfilling. Keep it up!

Same. Just started back a few days ago. I'm 44
So how would donruss rated rookie cards go for because I have a baker mayfield rated rookie is that a card people would buy
hey man! Yeah Donruss paper is like a less expensive version of Optic. Very liquid card so you should be able to sell it for sure, just not for as much as Prizm/Select/Optic
What about upper deck for baseball ??
And what about prospects and top draft pick cards of players not just roockie??
So would you buy a Mookie Betts 2015 purple prizm card number 40 out of 99 PSA 10 population 2.
I mean to me $60 is a very fair investment on that card considering the low pop and everything else there’s only 99 of them in the world
Sounds reasonable to me, but the first question I ask myself is "what is the sales history of this card or comparable cards to find a reasonable price?" Without sales history, I'm lost and it's a guessing game.

It's such a great sport!!

sorry did you say at 3:00 that the only sport to invest in is basketball, or did I just mishear that?

@@bryankahtava4706 very true,
great tips, i am just starting to get into this hobby. i find this very nostalgic of when i used to collect baseball cards as a kid. just wondering cuz you mentioned to focus on buying rookie cards, but what about also buying cards when a player changes teams (i.e lebrons first year in a laker jersey)?
If you collecting strictly on the dollar amount. PSA only. 10s,9s, 8s( depending on the card)
yep. SGC and BGS have a level of respect in the market, but PSA is the benchmark and much easier to liquidate....until Gary V buys out SGC :D
This video was amazing man, even 3 years later!! Great work!
What do you think of nba rookie prizm draft picks blue refractor? Thanx

It can be the difference whether or not the grader is in a good mood

@@_jax_1077 a card that’s not graded. So like you pull a card from a pack or buy a card online. It’s just considered a raw card. When you get it graded from a company it’s not raw anymore. It has protection because it is encased with a grade.
@@nicklind9358 and that makes it more valuable?
Stick to 100 cards or less....if u buy 1 more, u gotta sell 1. BGS over PSA due to sub grades. Refractors over base. 90s over 00s and 10s. fleer over upper deck/ hopps, inserts of 10 or less.
Hey Andrew. Yeah I like the 100 or less tip. I'm at the point where COMC has all my cheap cards and grading/storing/organizing cards is more of a chore than a pleasure so I'll be scaling up to less cards of higher value. Thanks for the insight!
As for Baseball stick to topps series 1,2 and update. Or the same sets in chrome.
One of the best videos to watch on the hobby, specially now... And for soccer card hour.
Thanks Alberto!
So if you think something looks like a PSA 7, pay no more than the PSA 5 value.
yep I like that rule too. This video was definitely for the brand spanking new collector/investor. The toploader tip is clutch!
good call great advice typically when ya buy raw your lookin for a significant deal but its a good rule since your never 100% what condition your gettin even when claiming mint ive gotten dings

@@romangrace2507 it’s just a blaster what u think
Thanks for making me realize that i have been impatient and ordered too much too quickly on Ebay.
How do you use that chart thing you use to compare Russell Wilson and Mahomes?
I really like collecting the Panini mosaic stare masters, as well as cards that have a piece of memorabilia that player wore.
What’s the best brand cards for football qb rookies or rookies in general?
Mid tier - optic and it’s parallels, prizm and it’s parallels, and select. Then you can go higher end to flawless
what about Panini Prizm Gold Standard is that worth anything ?
Even LBJ's Lakers cards have fallen off a cliff so I don't see them as being nearly as desirable as a serial #d card, RC, or perhaps 2nd year
@@TheComebackCardInvestor ohh gotcha appreciate it love the content🙏
Despite being 'low end', the right players can go well into the 4 digits.
where is the best place to sell my cards?
Should I avoid Panini Contenders packs?
Be the risk inverse investor.
there you go. Good call! With the first name of "Warren", I expect you to be a great investor. ;) Have a great holiday season!
How do I know the value of cards that are numbered and can’t find another one on eBay

I like KD way more than Harden. JH is just not very liked in comparison imo

I am very happy to get into the card game! This is very fun, I wish I would of considered it more when I was a kid!
Awesome to hear, Bob. Welcome back to the hobby!
Do you recommend you start by investing in base prizms? Then move to silvers?
Hey Josh, personally, I like base Prizm more because I can buy more, sell some over time, hold others. If the player is very proven I'll go with silver, but I def don't want $50+ on a player who could be out of the league in 3 years
@@TheComebackCardInvestor yea thanks for the advice, cheers brother

Hey TEE MONEY. There are always deals to be found in every price range. Check out one of my latest videos "Sports Card Investing 101: How Much Should I Pay for a Card?" That's pretty much how I process if there's a deal or not
I got his orange refractor rookie for $20 bucks and shipping. I have a lot of Russell wilson rookie jersey and 1 auto. I have the score 2012 variation set. I have russell wilson and Lucks graded 9 but I have every insert and 2 set of a more 2012 and the 50 variation
How do you overcome the final value cut ebay takes. you obviously have to factor that into your margins.
Hey Aaron. Of course. 15% is steep so that's always something to include with projections. It's kind of like selling a house. You know there will be 6% minimum taken so you have to do the math ahead of time and see what you're willing to sell for or what you can do to stretch your margin. Selling in FB/IG groups is another option but that requires some time and risk as well.

if you have a certain player on a certain card, the potential is limitless.
Wrong revolution is dope! Only the fancy numbered ones tho.
Start buying up Jose Ramirez. Hard to believe you can get a perennial MVP candidate YEAR AFTER YEAR for so cheap.
What about Mosaic for NBA and NFL ?
Hey Nick. I like both, but Mosaic is very new and hasn't passed the test of time. NBA Mosaic spiked then plummeted quickly last season so we'll see...

I'm just getting back into this hobby after about two decades (used to collect when I was a kid). So do you recommend investing in individual cards rather than boxes/cases? I've been hearing a lot about buying slots in group breaks (esp for Panini Prizm boxes) and how that's the most cost-efficient.
Stay away from breaks you won’t make your money back
Would be interested to hear your thoughts on 1/1 cards.

This video is exceptional! Simple explanations and tips great work!

You mention select, and said select is for hobby box collecting.
So collectors are not interested in those types of cards? For example a derek Carr select card?

Where can i find the price chart??
Hey Buco Bozic. This program is called Market Movers. Check them out and then also Card Ladder is another tool a lot of collectors and investors like.
Thank u Sir!..
Nice video, as someone who focuses mainly on baseball cards you are right about Topps/Bowman being really the only viable option for new cards.
