- Where to live in Metro Detroit, or maybe currently living in Metro Detroit, here are the top 5 cities to move to in Detroit. I countdown a list compiled by ranking all metro Detroit cities by Public schools, Housing, Good for Families, Crime & Safety, Nightlife, and Diversity. If your looking to make a move to Detroit, ore Metro Detroit this video should give you a head start on great cities to purchase in for a smooth transition. These cities are some of the most well respected, and aspirational in all of Metro Detroit. I also outline the distance from each city to Downtown Detroit. What the housing cost of living is in each city, and one cool thing about each Metro Detroit City.
Each of the cities in this ranking also has an A+ rating for schools, which was a tie breaking category for the top rankings. Many people move to Michigan, and more specifically Metro Detroit for the excellent school systems. Michigan is ranked 17th in the nation for public schools, with Metro Detroit leading the way with its top ranked school district. These 5 cities are the best of the best when living in Detroit. There are some cities where you dollar can go a little further in Metro Detroit, but an investment into one of the cities mentioned here is sure to be a safe bet long term. I help people move to these cities every month, and some limit their search to only some of the cities on this list, that's how impactful one of these zip codes can be for a family.
If you're thinking of making a move to Metro Detroit, lets talk about how I can help make the transition easy for you!

What area would you like to live in?
@vidaa82 Nice! Some good things happening over in your area.
I drove thru Palmer woods the other day, and it definitely jumped to the top of places I would want to live. Drive thru there if you haven’t. Those blocks will blow your mind!
I lived on 2nd and forrest avenue before midtown got too bougie and expensive, for a little while. I loved being there over ten years ago, now I'm looking at coming back and possibly going to Jefferson Chalmers. The spirit of Detroit lives on in my heart always. :)
That’s pretty awesome, yea Jefferson Chalmers is similar to the feel of where Midtown was 10 years ago.
Sherwood Forest ,Bagley,Boston Edison ,I am thinking of moving to Detroit.
5 Novi
4 Birmingham
3 Grosse point park
2 Bloomfield township
1 Troy
Birmingham!!! Great summary keep pumping them out!!
Good ole Birmingham! Haha Thanks brother, will do! 💪🏾
Hey Ed, great video. I have been to Troy and it is such a nice place and wow that mall is so cool!
Definitely my favorite!
love the videos! would love to see a video about renting in detroit metro/suburbs
... I used to live downtown Detroit ... the biggest thing was lack of a place to everyday shop like grocery's ... moved north to Waterford ... now I have a Miejers what a deal breaker ...
Great video Ed. I spend a lot of time working overseas but office is there. I’ve checked all areas and feel Macomb best value.
Thanks Tony, and for value wise I would agree. Ive been kicking around the idea of creating a video on best "value" areas to live in. Sterling Heights, Southfield, Rochester hills etc
This is Suresh from Bengaluru, India. Nice explanation and good information
I like this list. I would change Novi with Rochester and then the list is perfect
I’m a big fan of Rochester as well, and it would be my personal choice over Novi for sure!
Hey Ed! 👋 been watching your videos, great content 👏 I was planning about taking a weekend trip to Detroit and wanted to know if you have any suggestions on where to stay 🤔
Thanks Mia! Definitely suggest staying in one of the hotels on Lafayette downtown, you can walk to many of the sites, and will have the river walk close by.
@@EdButlerDetroit Thank you for the advice! I most definitely will!!
Salut Ed, merci pour cette vidéo sympathique. Grâce à toi je connais un peu mieux Detroit. C'est une région qui est intéressante et assez grande. Les USA est un pays qui donne envie d'y habiter. Mister Lilo, from Belgium
Ok now my boy 💪🏿
“I just can’t spend $700 on a belt, I don’t get it” 😂😂.
Ya feeel me!? Haha 😆
What do you think of Taylor I stayed there a couple weeks ago
Now GPP is for me right in the mix’s
Definitely becoming one of my favorites, with everything coming alive downtown. 💪🏾
I'm from Chicago..have had my eye on Detroit for a while. What are the best areas..would.like.to live in townhome.or co-OP.
I want to retire in Birmingham. You should of mentioned 12 oaks when you talked about Novi and I was hoping you mention Farmington Hills in your top 5.
Man, Birmingham definitely would be a great place to retire. I thought about 12 oaks, but didn't think it was big enough draw for Novi. Was going to do Lucky Strike, but the Pandemic took them out.
Farmington Hills is nice, but not top 5, very possibly in the top 10 though.
Good points Akoi
What are the property taxes like?
Loved your video. Where does Huntington Woods fall on your list?
Huntington woods is a great area, just too small of a city to rank with the big dogs, but definitely a lovely city.
What’s south west Detroit like.I like in Australia but I’m thinking about coming over to live in usa for a year or two.Melissa from Australia 🇦🇺
Hey Melissa! Thanks for watching! SW Detroit has a heavy Hispanic influence, so many restaurants and shops will be to cater to the large Hispanic population that lives there. It’s proximity to downtown Detroit has generated a good amount of investment for the area, so it’s on the rise.
Glad Troy was your #1
I don’t shop at Somerset either. Frugal is better
Troy will always be #1
There’s nothing like it.
arent people moving out of the city of detrioit or is there some sort of growth
Hey Diego, Detroit and it’s metro area has seen some solid growth over the last few years, especially for the downtown area of the city itself, and some of the cities on this list. I anticipate the trend to continue. 👍🏾
You forgot Taylor.
Not a big fan of Taylor personally 😬
Ed I want to spend cheap and live in a nice /decent area in Detroit, Only want to spend less than 150k
It’s possible, we have a few neighborhoods where you can do so in the $150k range.
Novi is nice but to far away from the action for me
Depends on the type of action your looking for!? Haha
Gee I wished he showed more pictures
In retrospect I wish I had too, but this was one of the first videos I made. Probably time for an update! 😊
@@EdButlerDetroit 👍
What are the rankings, when it comes to safe, clean drinking water?
... better than almost anywhere else ... Detroit has the best drinking water .
I just bought a house in detroit can you please help me learn area
Congrats! I’m definitely going to be starting a new series about different neighborhoods in the city. So maybe I’ll be doing one on yours.
Try Curbed Detroit
wow you didnt say ann arbor
Yea Ann Arbor isn’t a suburb of Detroit, it’s far enough away and large enough to stand alone.
why does it this half like one million views
Appreciate that! I can only dream of growing that big right now. I’m just a little guy trying to help change the narrative of the comeback city! 💪🏾
Too bad you can't recommend Detroit places to live.
Check my other videos, I definitely recommend places to live in Detroit too.
Why he look like an avitar!! 😂
Wait me? Lol
@@EdButlerDetroit yes bro 100% looks fake idk why guess it’s my screen I guess who knows
