Not exactly I’m the 70s it was nearly impossible to get a 3 minute track on lp much less six minutes. Rossingtons intro is actually shortened as well as Collins solo dramatically. The song actually pioneered longer track times due to the popularity of the solo. Fast forward till it was famous and being requested nightly, at this point free bird lasted around 12 minutes and included solos by rossimgton Collins and even Powell’s beautiful piano, whenever Ronnie was tired or felt strained him and the band would literally let Cassies younger brother steve take over notice the soulful jazzy vibe skynyrd came into yep steve. Ronnie himself said that he was young but eventually skynyrd the band would be In his shadow. Which is ironic considering his beautiful single one in the sun. Skynyrd is probably my favorite band of all time not only seeing there future with Collins and rossington in good health but steve man what that kid was going to do the world truly wasn’t ready for. But anyway I’m ranting, but look up Ronnie van zant on steve in one interview he states that when he would feel comfortable leaving a gig early with Steve on vocals and lead guitar. Too many legends lost in one bad night..

Not sure if he’ll see this but layedbak should be amazed in knowing that the guitar solo is actually a duo out of the 3 guitarists playing simultaneously together making it in the some of the top guitar “solos” to ever go down in history!!!!
“I’m sure they’re going to give me peaks and valleys and avenues…” You know with any other song with 5 minutes of runtime left that would be an extremely safe bet. But no, Free Bird goes UP.
its not the same guy the man you refer to is hughie thomson i know saw them both in the day that is THE GREAT ALLEN COLLINS ORIGINAL MEMBER AND WROTE THAT SONG HUGHIE JIONED FOR A WHILE MUCH LATER ON
I don’t know what is but whenever the build up to the solo hits I start tearing up. Not because I’m sad I’m just so moved by such beautiful art. This song is one of the very few modern musical masterpieces.
The guitarist in question is Allen Collins who came up with this song while he was in high school & the lyrics came from his girlfriend. The picture that you're using, Allen would be on the far left. I'm not sure if it's still available on UA-cam but if you can find it you might want to check out Freebird at Knebworth when they opened for the Rolling Stones.
This may just be my perspective but the song is called Free Bird they did the lyrics and they allowed the guitarist to go free and wild with his solo like a free bird.
What's even more impressive is it was two guitarists in the solo keeping up with each other in a dueling guitar style. It was Allen Collins and Gary Rossington playing together. They nailed it together at points to where you can hear harmonics.
@@89ludeawakening1 I was talking more to the meaning of the extra long guitar solo yes It may have been two but it was just guitars. In my point was aiming more towards the meaning not what was actually amount of guitars in that part of the song
it was actually 2 guitar's working in perfect unison an absolute masterpiece you should check out the live version -Lynyrd Skynyrd - Free Bird 1976- they opened for the rolling stones and stole the whole show legendary performance
Lots of people are baffled that songs we consider staples and gospels aren't heard by many. But it's amazing to see the energy and enjoyment from some one new again. Just look at him go and the song making him literally sweat. It's awesome to bring forth things that have imprinted themselves on our souls and watch them profoundly shake the core of our fellow man.

I'm pretty sure he did a reaction to it and it got taken down due to copyright. At least I know that has definitely happened with other Zeppelin songs but I think also with Stairway. Shame since they're my favourite band 😅
Pretty happy to see this! Lynyrd Skynyrd is one of my favorite bands, Got to see them in concert last year and seeing them in August. With Johnnie though instead of Ronnie.
3 great guitarists sharing the sol9 and shredding. Seeing it live was even better. So much fun watching layedbak react to this. I remember when I first heard it. And first saw skinny in 76, senior year in h.s. I felt like payed back must have. The song takes over your body. And never really leaves. RIP skinny, most of the originals gone now, one way (the crash) or several others. They were amazing.
There's no way you can end listening this song without freaking sweating man🤣, it always makes me grab an imaginary guitar and start getting crazy with that solo
I remember playing this song on guitar hero back then and getting through most the song thinking it was easy and boring then BOOM SHIT GOT CRAZY!!!! 😂🔥💯
The song starts off so laid back & then the GUITAR SOLO comes in like a WRECKING BALL. Freebird, IMHO, is the greatest Classic Rock track ever recorded.
Allen Collins was 18-19 when he wrote this guitar solo! He was 21 when the album came out in 73, but he had been working on this solo on and off for a couple of years before lyrics were put to it to turn it into Freebird. The skills to write such an iconic piece at that age.
This my dads favourite ever song. I love hearing it every single time - the fact this band died so young in a place crash is crazy. Who knows that they could’ve achieved?

That’s why music is so great. Is has the ability to put is right back into moments we cherish. God bless your cousin I hope he is resting in eternal peace and god bless yourself for being strong and carrying on, I can only imagine how difficult it is losing a loved one.
@@benjamintrnt7329 love you bro I completely agree 💪🏽
This was one of my grandfather's favorite songs too. It played at his funeral last November when he died from ALS.
This is the album version, he goes off for another 5 minutes on the live version
This is my grandads favorite song and it brings us to tears every time we listen to it together. So this video was very sentimental to me. Thank you fire squad for suggesting it.
< 3
It brings me so much joy to all the reactions to this song and I’m glad you enjoy music to its core lyrics and all 💪🏼
If you get a chance, check out the live version from Oakland in the 70’s. Watching the energy level of an entire stadium come to life is another experience
I've been to a lot of concerts and no matter what band I saw the crowd is always the same. Loud and active.
Oakland was the best rendition of this I have ever heard. Incredible crowd too!
Knebworth 76 is tge best live version.. opening for the Stones. They were told not to go out on the tongue, well thats what they did. God bless Allen Collinsfor writing this solo. They had a three guitar army most of the time.
"What is going on...?"
He's ripping a fat solo bro and this solo has gone down in history lol
Technically..."They" are ripping a solo...
3 guitars for the solo and the base...
"I'm sure they gonna give us peaks and vallys" little does he know the rest of the song is a gnarley solo
I loved watching you take that ride at the end of the song. I’ve heard this solo so many times and it still blows me away after all these year’s.
We played this for my dads funeral. I’ll
Never be able to hear this song and not have some seriously intense memories and feelings.
I AM SO GLAD THAT YOU EXPERIENCED WHAT I HAVE BEEN ENJOYING FOR YEARS NOW! I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS SONG AND IT GETS PLAYED REPEATEDLY ON MY PLAYLIST!!! WELCOME TO THE REALM OF GREAT OLD SCHOOL ROCK MUSIC!!!! Ultimate road trip song idc who says different..
Especially when you get shot at.
Most definitely
Flirtin with disaster by molly hatchet is definitely a close second
@@brizzle711 ha by cops
Eh I prefer chill songs for road trips. This is for ripping around a dirt road in a lifted truck
What you don't necessarily notice (you would if you watched a live performance) is they have a killer pianist. Not a keyboard. A piano!
Three guitars and nothing but minds blown. I have heard this song a million times but seeing someone hear it for the first time really makes it hit again. Thanks.
You went on a journey with them. Great music to live by. Seems like a lot of my memories have this genre as the background. Lyrics are simple and true as is the instruments and musicians. Top Notch Sir!
Buckle up for that southern rock and soul.
👍🏼💜💜💜🌙🙏🏻💪
People have answered your question with a thundering yes 40+ years later…. we still remember you…. RIP Ronnie
Everytime I hear that 1st line I always say out loud yep we sure do Ronnie.
I love how physically music effects him when he’s feeling it. It’s hilarious and awesome at the same time. Almost like it’s gonna burst out of his body.
His reaction to this masterpiece was everything. Watching you get hype gets me hype even more!
Not sure if he’ll see this but layedbak should be amazed in knowing that the guitar solo is actually a duo out of the 3 guitarists playing simultaneously together making it in the some of the top guitar “solos” to ever go down in history!!!!
“I’m sure they’re going to give me peaks and valleys and avenues…”
You know with any other song with 5 minutes of runtime left that would be an extremely safe bet. But no, Free Bird goes UP.
Dude, if you like this check out "Green Grass and High Tides" by the Outlaws. It has the same guitarist from before he joined Lynyrd Skynyrd
its not the same guy the man you refer to is hughie thomson i know saw them both in the day that is THE GREAT ALLEN COLLINS ORIGINAL MEMBER AND WROTE THAT SONG HUGHIE JIONED FOR A WHILE MUCH LATER ON
That solo got LayedBak looking like he came off 6 straight tequila shots😂
Man i remember playing this on Guitar Hero. such a long song lol
Man those Guitar Hero nights were awesome! It had everyone thinking they might could actually play the drums or guitar!😂😂Great times!
That long ass "warning" it gave you, and asking are you completely sure you want to play this song? 🤣
i remember those days that i would call my friend to play this with coop and teamworking on where we will use our star power ahaha. nostalgic days
100% till the solo, fail in one minute lmao
@@willy6942 Then throw it down and not wanna play it again LMAO
3 guitars blending as one. Not so easy, and made one of the great rock songs ever.
I don’t know what is but whenever the build up to the solo hits I start tearing up. Not because I’m sad I’m just so moved by such beautiful art. This song is one of the very few modern musical masterpieces.
I get like this a lot when i listen to my fav song/albums
The guitarist in question is Allen Collins who came up with this song while he was in high school & the lyrics came from his girlfriend.
The picture that you're using, Allen would be on the far left.
I'm not sure if it's still available on UA-cam but if you can find it you might want to check out Freebird at Knebworth when they opened for the Rolling Stones.
This may just be my perspective but the song is called Free Bird they did the lyrics and they allowed the guitarist to go free and wild with his solo like a free bird.
did you even listen to the lyrics bro? you really reaching bro
@@nicholaswatson999 I completely agree with your meaning. They both just cut loose and were free to just play.
They just didn’t know how to end it lol
it was actually 2 guitar's working in perfect unison an absolute masterpiece you should check out the live version -Lynyrd Skynyrd - Free Bird 1976- they opened for the rolling stones and stole the whole show legendary performance
3
This was the best performance ever!!! The Oakland show was filmed bad. Knebworth performance was badass!!!
It's actually 3 guitars basically battling and plus the bass
The smile I had when you were vibing the song before the solo had me tearing up cause I knew your ears were about to experience greatness
If you want to experience a guitar sing, I couldn’t recommend Stevie Ray Vaughan enough. Texas flood and Voodoo Child are two of my personal favorites. I’m sorry if it’s been reacted to by you already, I haven’t found it yet. If you have reacted to it already I would love to see the reaction!
Watch the “live” version from Oakland Colosseum. You get to see all the guys jammin’ their guitars. Amazing video.
This is one of those songs guaranteed to get white people turnt, along with black betty
Lol
It’s the truth, my whole family will turn up
You're not wrong
As part of the white delegation, can confirm
Skynyrd is to white people what Tupac is to black people.
They are the pinnacle, don’t fuckin say otherwise neither or your in for an asswhoopin.
“Aight everyone that was trash or pass…. PASS…. Ughhh” everyone felt that
I'm glad you found this and liked it ( how could you not ) I'm 64 and grew up with this band sand yes this freebird is one BADASS SONG!
Man the fact that you haven't done stairway to heaven yet shows your audience is not giving you the music you need to hear!!!
ayyye we workin on it weekly lol
@Grand Slamwich Have him react to someone playing it in a guitar store, ive heard that they love people playing it
I'm pretty sure he did a reaction to it and it got taken down due to copyright. At least I know that has definitely happened with other Zeppelin songs but I think also with Stairway. Shame since they're my favourite band 😅
Imagine thinking Stairway to Heaven is better than Free Bird.
Zeppelin is a dick when it comes to their music.
Loved this! I'm always surprised when I come across someone who hasn't heard this, for a split second. Then I remember how fuckin old I am.
Sucks. Don't it?
@@vaportrail226 way more than I even thought it would.
Pretty happy to see this! Lynyrd Skynyrd is one of my favorite bands, Got to see them in concert last year and seeing them in August. With Johnnie though instead of Ronnie.
Man you have the same reactions I did when I first heard this 13 years ago props to whoever recommended this always a classic
Love how no matter what music anyone likes, we can all agree that this song will always be 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Highly regarded as one of the BEST songs ever created! Absolutely a timeless classic, great video!
9:44 the look when you think the solo is finally over, but it’s still got a little bit left 😂
Green Grass and High Tides- The Outlaws has the same vibe and is pretty amazing.
The song starts off so laid back & then the GUITAR SOLO comes in like a WRECKING BALL. Freebird, IMHO, is the greatest Classic Rock track ever recorded.
I know. That guitar part puts pretty much any metal band to shame.
Allen Collins was 18-19 when he wrote this guitar solo!
He was 21 when the album came out in 73, but he had been working on this solo on and off for a couple of years before lyrics were put to it to turn it into Freebird. The skills to write such an iconic piece at that age.
If you loved the shredding in this solo then you're gonna go crazy during Through the Fire and Flames by Dragonforce
I love watching you listen to rock songs for the first time. You have such an open mind, and are truly just a music guy. Kudos
This my dads favourite ever song. I love hearing it every single time - the fact this band died so young in a place crash is crazy. Who knows that they could’ve achieved?
NOT VALLEYS, CURVES AND AVENUES .STRAIGHT HIGHWAY WITH NO SPEED LIMITS.
Years later and I still replay Kingsman's church scene in my head every time I hear the solo
I’ve been watching your channel for awhile, Skynyrd’s my all time FAVORITE, your reaction was brilliant. Welcome to Lynyrd Fuckin Skynyrd 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
