@@loisrogers9042 Yeah understandable but back in the 70's it wasn't the "dog whistle" that it is today. They were expressing love for their southern roots but not allegiance to the days of slavery. That was true of the other southern rock bands too. "Through the years, people like the KKK and skinheads kinda kidnapped the Dixie or Southern flag from its tradition and the heritage of the soldiers, that’s what it was about,” Rossington said. “We didn’t want that to go to our fans or show the image like we agreed with any of the race stuff or any of the bad things.” That was a comment from 2012 when they decided to stop using the Confederate flag as stage decoration. Apparently, lots of racist southerners had a problem with that statement. F 'em.
Thank you, gentlemen, for featuring this epic live song. I was about 16 when Freebird came out. Couple crazy things about this show: there was one more act after Skynyrd. All thise girls were waiting for headliner Peter Frampton. He would be one to check out on the channel. Try Do You Feel Like We Do from TV show The Midnight Special. The other thing that stands out is today everybody uses in-ear stage monitors. They were not around in the 70s or 80s. It’s pretty easy to tell that when they stepped away from their wedge shaped stage monitors they could not hear how they sounded, nor how the guy next to them sounded. The second time they roared back from almost ending the song, it looked and sounded like none of them could hear any of the others. As great as this was, if it had been laid down for a live album it probably would have been unusable for that one minute stretch. So glad we got to see and hear this together, particulalrly with some of them dead not long after. Thank you!
Best live Skynyrd version of this song ever, RVZ is by far my favorite singer & songwriter to ever live! Best band ever, I’m only 28 but would love to time travel back to the early 70’s just to see him do his thing! Check out “All I Can Do Is Write About It” Acoustic, or “On The Hunt” both probably the most underrated and two of my favorite songs!
I'm blessed to have seen them before the crash. Have also visited their memorial in Magnolia, Mississippi! The first words are literally written in stone ... "If I leave here tomorrow, will you still remember me?"
Just found you guys. Love it! Yeah. The front row. I remember Billy Joel said once he was a kid without a clue what he wanted to do. Then the Beatles landed. Between the tunes and the effect they had on girls, he was like, "That's it! I know what I wanna do now!"
I grew up listening to Lynryd Skynrd and I love Free Bird, this song has been such a special part of my life. To see this live concert is so great! It shows how incredibly gifted they were as musicians/singer/songwriters and I would have loved to be there live but I was just 12 so just a little too young to try and get to Oakland LOL! Thanks gentlemen for another great reaction video!

A friend of mine once told me that Bon Jovi was a bit of a girl's band.... which is why he went to the concerts. Didn't like the music, loved the audience!
I graduated high school in 1977. This was one of my favorite bands. And yes I wore everything you are seeing (and not seeing) I was definitely a hippie
I graduated in 1973 and grew up in the 50's and 60s when rock was just beginning to grow its roots. And yes I definitely was a hippie. Bell bottom jeans, tie died shirts and my Beatles boots. Skynyrd is my favorite southern rock band. I had a chance to see them 3 months before the plane crash and I don't remember now why I didn't go but for the next year or so every time I heard a Skynyrd song I kicked myself in the a$$. I definitely screwed up on that one.
@RootofEcstasy It isn't a lot of fun getting older especially when you have health issues but I deal with it as best I can and just be glad that I'm alive. No it wasn't just the music it was friends and simpler life. Would do it again in a heartbeat.
Great reaction. I saw them at Philadelphia's JFK Stadium in July 1977. The lineup was J. Geils Band, Dicky Betts & Great Southern, Lynyrd Skynyrd and Peter Frampton. Frampton had the biggest album of all time at that point. Incredible concert.
If you want to hear some more of Billy Powell, his best piano solos are on "Call Me The Breeze", and "I Know A Little" off their Street Survivors album. It was their last album, released just before the plane crash. And because of the graphics on the album cover, it was recalled and re-released with a different cover.
Yes! I was there too that day! Day on the Green. Also that day was Outlaws, Santana and Peter Frampton! I was lucky enough to be "backstage" in the bleachers, cuz I'll tell you what - I'd been to several of those and the packed crowds gave me nightmares! You lined up at 7 am.. once they opened gates everyone rushed in.. placed blankets on the green. (And had already started drinking..) When the first band started, everyone stood up and pushed forward.. oh man.. at 5 feet tall I hated that . But yeah.. wild times in Oakland! Born there. Lived there 58 years. The "infield" was blocked off to preserve it for the Oakland A's games. lol.. My beloved Raiders played later in the year.
Check out the Neil Young t-shirt Ronnie's rocking - despite the famous line in 'Sweet Home Alabama', the boys in Skynyrd were big fans of Neil, and the feeling was mutual. Great choice, a killer performance all the way, and a great reaction as always.

"Through the years, people like the KKK and skinheads kinda kidnapped the Dixie or Southern flag from its tradition and the heritage of the soldiers, that’s what it was about,” Rossington said. “We didn’t want that to go to our fans or show the image like we agreed with any of the race stuff or any of the bad things.”
That was a comment from 2012 when they decided to stop using the Confederate flag as stage decoration.
Apparently, lots of racist southerners had a problem with that statement.
F 'em.
@@loisrogers9042its a flag with a dead meaning, it’s use then was to show counter cultural beliefs to be a “rebel” had nothing to do with race
Wait for it.. it’s going go wild
Thank you!
The greatest live ever
Life was good. Let's get back there.
God willing my friend!!
Pure Southern Rock 🔥
You should definitely check out Harfang's Mission. It's a must-see.
Did you notice Ronnie’s t shirt? Neil Young ❤️
I'm blessed to have seen them before the crash. Have also visited their memorial in Magnolia, Mississippi! The first words are literally written in stone ... "If I leave here tomorrow, will you still remember me?"
Billy Powell had been trained as a classical pianist, and he was wonderful! RIP to them all now.
Love the react. I never tire of Corey digging new sounds.
Another beautiful song by Ronnie Van Zant is "Simple Man". To hear it is to love it.
I was 17 when their plane went down. Shocked and heartbroken because I literally grew up with their music.
I love it when people who haven't grown up on the music I grew up on doing reactions to the music I grew up on that you are experiencing thank you for your commentary
The best…..!!!!!
I have never seen this many women at a hard rock concert to this day.
It was cos Peter Frampton was headliner & they came to see him
Sweet and lovely ladies...God bless them.
Southern Rock
You've never been to a Rod Stewart contest then. Packed full of tall blonde pretty females,, his type.
Beam me back to the 70's !
Please.
@@RootofEcstasyI'll definitely go with you 😂

😊
I don't like getting older but I sure am grateful that I came up in the 1960's and 70's.
And btw, not just because of the music.
This ripped me 😢RIP REBEL 💔Flying Free and you too RONNIE💔
If you want to hear some more of Billy Powell, his best piano solos are on "Call Me The Breeze", and "I Know A Little" off their Street Survivors album. It was their last album, released just before the plane crash. And because of the graphics on the album cover, it was recalled and re-released with a different cover.
Y’all should check out their song,Curtis Lowe 💕💕
Miss these times
Saw them Jan 1976 in the Savannah Georgia Civic Center. Fantastic show. Charlie Daniels and Atlanta Rhythm Section with them that night.
Gotta check out the live version of "Call Me the Breeze". Billy Powell kills it on piano, and the guitars are blazin
I usually hate when channels react to live versions instead of the studio...but this one is fantastic!
I really enjoy your guys reactions ❤
Allen Collins in the white wrote that guitar solo when he was 16 years old.
Love you guys, great reactions and you have the knowledge too. Thanks
Billy Powell with the white grand piano with a pull top Budweiser resting on it is real rock n roll.
I recommend the documentary If I Leave Here Tomorrow about the band. It's excellent!
Lynyrd Skynyrd first 2 albums are on the greatest of all times list
Check out the Neil Young t-shirt Ronnie's rocking - despite the famous line in 'Sweet Home Alabama', the boys in Skynyrd were big fans of Neil, and the feeling was mutual. Great choice, a killer performance all the way, and a great reaction as always.
Like steppping into aTime Mchine this was a Concert.
So great no other southern rock band can touch them.
You got that right.
From Jacksonville Florida ❤🔥
I consider myself lucky to have been a teen during the best decade for Rock (1970s), plus I lived in California then (with those California girls and beaches).
