I highly recommend listening to Slaughter To Prevail!! Any song from the new album!!!
nah he tweakin
This song is about drugs and how they become your master until your inevitable desth
It was a song about how drugs will make you their master and burn your life faster; they make you a puppet. Metallica songs are deep.
The tempo of the song depicts the highs and lows of cocaine. Chop your breakfast on a mirror.
80s Parents : don’t listen to the devil music
Metallica : don’t do drugs
Also Metallica: get wasted with 🍺 instead! 😂
@@jasminlamoureux3381 Not just alcohol... They were on hard drugs. One of them overdosed and the singer had a hard time kicking the habit for a loooong, long time into their existence.
@@Arrynek01 yeah but they basically were saying by experience don’t do drugs also back then drugs were being used by so many celebrities so it was almost normal
@@jasminlamoureux3381 btw these songs are meant for 18+ that’s why they got into don’t do drugs cause when your 18+ your decisions matter and can fuck up your life they ain’t meant for 12 yr olds they can’t control who listens to it but it’s meant for 18+
My dad was listening to this back in his day and his neighbors were like, “he’s listening to the music of devils”.
This song is about how an addict is controlled by drugs. The drug is the master and the addict is the puppet. Think of this song as the drug singing to the addict.
Also the song mirrors the feeling of the peaks and valleys of addiction, with the first two verses and chorus representing the frantic need for the next hit, the first solo (with the softer guitars) representing the calming euphoria post consumption, the second much heavier solo representing the violent and painful feeling of coming down or the hangover, and the last verse and chorus starts the cycle over again.
They are really good at making you "feel" the different emotions during the changeups. Fade To Black is another good example of them doing this.
@@batteen92 This is the best explanation I've seen in the comments. You really didn't leave anything to add, lol. I like how you even mention that the music itself (if you muted the lyrics) mimics the rollercoaster of addiction.
This man is right 💯 the song is pretty much telling you how addictive drugs are and they ruin everything in your life
@Korbyn J Lynch the song is talking about people who are woke and how kills society and Freedoms
Parents: Metal is the music of satan
Metallica: Don't do drugs, war is bad, don't let others change you and be yourself, life on the road is alright...
All music is music of satan for a true believer. The only songs you're allowed to listen to is songs about how amazing Jesus is
They also have a lot of songs about how the San Francisco metal club scene in the 80s was banging. Whiplash, Battery, and so on.
@@Me_Gustaf wat
it's not black metal ....
Megadeth: I hate the government * 18 solos*
For those who don't know this, in 2015 the Master of Puppets album was deemed "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant" by the Library of Congress and was selected for preservation in the National Recording Registry. That's how great it is.
That’s insane imma have to check this out
Disposable heroes
It does not get more complimentary than that, that is like a knights cross for a soldier.
It kinda blows my mind that you dissect bars all day every day and “chop your breakfast on a mirror” went over your head.
Yup me too
I tried...the bacon and eggs made a right mess ..🤭😉
Yep .. he missed THAT -- his opinions just hit the "TRASH" side of the isle.
@@MarkSalterSaltyTalk a bit harsh.at least hes being open minded and not jumping to assumptions man
Right? How did he miss that...in fact he missed the whole message of the song. Very disappointing
The first part of the song is the drug enticing the addict to take more, because the drug has control. The middle, where it slowed down, is when the drug kicks in. The third part is where the addict regrets it and understands that the drug is only lying to them- they aren’t seeing things for how they truly are- but of course they continue to go back for more. It is an endless cycle causing their “life to burn faster”.
I always knew this song was about a battle but never knew what that battle was. I was too young when I was into metal to understand but knowing now what the true meaning is…. It’s mind blowing. Everything about this song is beautifully constructed.
Probably the best description of this song I have ever read. Im amazed when someone doesnt "get it" after the first time hearing ir.
no wonder i like this song so much
best explanation ever!!! I never understood the slow down part until now
I always viewed the slow down as when they take the drugs and they fall into their bliss. And when it builds back up its simulating the come down from the high and the craving coming back.
"It's like the guitars are tingling my spirit."
Bro, that's exactly how I got into Metal🤣🤘

Pausing on the two solos won’t go unnoticed.
Crucifixion might be needed

Watching someone listen to this song for the first time is something I will never get tired of. Welcome all the new people coming after hearing this in Stranger things finale. Such a sick scene.
Yeah I’ve heard the song plenty over the years but that Stranger Things scene was perfect and I’m listening to this song every day now….
"One" is much easier to follow and a very good song. I should think it will wow you.

Very sadly apropos to and for our times.
The high is "literally" written into the music during interlude. Effin masterpiece!
A true masterpiece of a song
So true. Begins with the obsession, the craving driving you mad then eventually you get the fix and woah, you transition into the bliss of the high. Too soon though the come down happens and you're back into the swirling pounding hell of the cravings. Absolute genius.
WOW! The interlude is the high! Wow!!!! Then it goes back into the real life of an addict once it says “fix me”
@@paulsmith2516 it blows your mind when you realize it! james is a fckng genius.
Like being in the eye of the tornado, before the withdrawal comes.
That the 'guitars were tingling your soul' gives me hope that someday we will see a return to a time when a virtuoso on an instrument is important and relevant.
It still is, the thing that s every type of music that used to dominate for periods has fans who think it has declined, it's not true, there is just no mainstream anymore and by this commercial TV and radio have far less control in shaping tastes. The rise of the internet and in particular UA-cam has meant a democratising of music, it's all out there for you to find as you wish.
Don't believe the low that certain types of music are no longer relevant, it is good it will have an audience.
@@ninagray4441 Definitely a really good way to put this!
You should have a bar at the top with "trash" on one side, and "pass" on the other, and it should slowly move toward one or the other based on how much you're feeling the track throughout the video.
Not important, just a neat little touch.
Props to James Hetfield…dudes a great vocalist but he’s an amazing guitar player in his own right.
Dude is the epoch of what you imagine a metal god to be… his riffs and guitar playing are beyond top notch, one of the best songwriters in all of music, one of the best lyricists and one of the best and most recognizable frontmen ever in history… he’s what people envision in their mind when they think ‘rockstar’ and have no reference, it’s like he’d be an image that’d automatically pop up lol… but dude is legendary, such is Metallica.. and the fact he can play this shit while singing, looking like a badass and control the crowds is just a whole other level.. he’s a straight boss to the Nth degree
For real. Try playing this whole song through on guitar. Need Popeye forearms to keep up with the all down-picking.
James has one of the strongest attacks in metal
With all due respect James is the king of metal, and among the best that rock has to offer. He's the primary song writer and the front man.
Master of the down stroke
One of Metallica’s greatest hits
That was never a single.

Long time fan, Its so fun to see your reactions! You genuinely appreciate good music, and you catch the parts of Master of Puppets that really caught me as a kid. Such an awesome experience!
This is in fact a positive song.. its a warning against drug use.. once the realisation sinks in, the song has so many levels, from the highs of drug use, to the lows, to the pull of addiction to the battle for sobriety...
Metallica is a top tier metal band. You gotta listen to "and justice for all" or "the day that never comes" some of my favorites from them
There metal get it right
Literally in there name bur ur good

The And Justice For All...... album is my favorite but we all have our preferences I like that album because of fast riffs an solos im that album, especially thw Live Binge Purge Seattle concert
don't forget load, i love those "that's the same band ?!" reactions...
and the songs too, love the songs
I love the way you embrace different genres. You really listen and appreciate. Love it!!
This song is universal concerning the human condition-about anything negative & obsessive that you choose to allow to control you & that ultimately destroys your dreams & life. The first & last parts are the master or thing controlling a person speaking while the middle part is the puppet or person controlled speaking-these changes lyrically are also simultaneously reflected in the changes musically. A true work of art! A musical masterpiece in form & function!
Kirk Hammett has some of the most memorable solos in metal history

Like it or not, but you're a metalhead now!
Welcome, brother😂🤟🤙
A Metallica's point of view about drugs.
Heavy/fast parts are about how you need them
The beautiful interlude is "after-effect" of using them
Followed by the withdrawal and need of a hit - and then the hit itself.

"it's like the guitar is tingling my spirit" never have words better described a great guitar solo!
I've played this song thousands of times, but seeing someone react to it who has never ever heard it, really makes it feel special again
Man this song is so good live! Fans goes nuts and then we all chant “master” thousands at one time singing master
I can verify this, worked a Metallica concert in Louisville a couple years back, and let me tell you, this song hit WAY different live than just on the album. I was working usher/security at the KFC Yum! Center when they were playing and not gonna lie, I ROCKED. OUT. with them.
The fast and frantic is the life of an addict (crazy and non stop)
The slow beautiful part is the high kicking in but it's only brief then you start crashing and the craziness slowly creeps back in and the cycle has started again
I love watching honest reactions to the music that helped shape my life.
Tickled my soul! Love it that’s such a perfect description
Dude I have been subscribed for over a year, hoping you’d get around to Metallica’s magnum opus. My day has come
Same this is so good when he’s knocking his head on the solo 🤣
He did Nothing Else Matters like two years ago. Me thinking: well Metallica is such a legendary band so he probably done a plenty of reactions to them... Nope. Only one song. I was like "yo where the hell are the Metalica reactions? Did they get copywritten or some shit?" XD
*Drugs/Alcohol is the master; the addict is the puppet. I thought "chop your breakfast on a mirror" would make it easy to get the meaning. that's because it's so crazy that ppl don't think about the lyrics at first
Oh yeah, this song is making a comeback this summer. Love the reaction dude!
"I'm trying to Bob my head"
Thats just headbanging my dude! Roollllll with it lmao
I’m sure it’s been said, but this song is about a struggle with addiction…the “master” is the drug…the song is sung through the perspective of the drug. It’s one of, if not THE, greatest metal songs of all time.
It definitely is the greatest thrash metal song in its own right. Nothing comes close to it
and the goverment the masters of all the puppets people who obay them
Let me start off by saying, I’ve been subscribed to you for years. I first found you from your reactions to logic and other rappers. (Reaction video addict).
Metal has a stereotype for being demonic and there are some bands that are. Metallica is not one of those bands. Metallica is part of the sub genre of metal called thrash where in the 80’s it was all about speed and skill.
The first song that got me hooked to Metallica was “One”. It has a crazy drop, 4 solos, beautiful notes, and a crazy story. It’s considered as one of if not the greatest metal song of all time.
Coming from a rap fan who has listened to anything from LA Capone and rondonumbanine, gunna, Joey badass, carti, Joyner Lucas, rakim, the roots, big L, etc. I can tell you metal is very similar in a lot of ways. Now I think Metallica is my favorite out of any artist or band I’ve ever heard.
same man. love rap and love thrash
Great take bro
I can relate big time man.. I grew up in Pontiac Michigan which is basically a mini Detroit, I’m only 30mins away.. but it’s a very urban, hood with a huge variety of us poor folks.. I grew up on all sorts of music and thankful I did, most DONT get that great opportunity and experience.. I got country and gospel from my Gparents, my mom and her siblings were mainly rock, but also being in the hood I got all sorts of hip hop, r&b, soul, Motown (especially being in MI), on top of my Mexican and Puerto Rican friends showing me Tejano music and a blend of a lot shit.. def made me a far different and better well rounded person… but still to this day, pushing 40, I love everything and even have been playing music for 30yrs now and Metallica is that band that really kicked it all off.. still one of my favorite all time bands.. but they are def a different beast compared to most and it’s evident with how long they’ve stayed around, relevant and popular, def legends and I doubt we’ll ever see a band get as huge as they are or have the type of impact ever again
U doubt, never heard thrash metal song about bitches or money and smoking weed...Thrash metal has instruments and rap doesn't..It's not hard to sample some song from 60 or 70 and than call it 'My beat'..So i doubt that thay have a lot in common, they don't..not trying to attack but it is what it is...and it's clear that u are new to this or u didn't go into other stuff, there are like dozen of other awesome bands such as Slayer, Testament, Exodus, Anthrax, Megadeath(of older bands) and many more underground and heavier form of Thrash metal called Teutonic Thrash Metal with bands such as Kreator, Sodom..etc🤘

super nice to see you react to some metal. i'd love to see more reactions to stuff like this. there's so much good shit out there.
Man i love you :D your reaction is so pure
The meaning of the song is like we are the puppet and the drugs are the master. Very strong song.
Metallica is such an iconic and crazy band and they’re definitely one of my top 5 favorites. You should react to their song “one” or “for whom the bell tolls” next.
"This is for you chrissy"
I love watching someone hear old metal for the first time. Feels like christmas morning.
The song is about drugs controlling an addict.
Not only are the lyrics about drugs, but even the way they chose to compose the actual music had meaning behind it.
The melodic breakdown in the middle of the song represents the addict getting their fix and the feelings of being high. The dark heavy riffs after that represent the addict coming down from their high and the frantic search to find more drugs afterwards.
The song is a masterpiece lol
This song is about drug addiction and is in 3 parts. This is Metallica's masterpiece imo.
Part one is needing the drug and getting that fix, part 2, the slow part is the high and part 3 is coming down.
Chop your breakfast on a mirror, then fix me (ie getting a fix or the plea for help that the drug can fix his problem).
8 minute song and every second is incredible. I typically loathe long songs but this is one of the best songs ever made. (Chop your breakfast on a mirror literally tells you what this song is about)

So everyone has been kinda right but this song is talking specifically of the cocaine addiction that plagued the rock/metal music industry in the 70s and 80s.
"Chop your breakfast on a mirror".
kinda sounded like a few different drugs,
sounded like heroin at one point pump you veins with something was the lyric
@DrkNinja Veins that pump with fear
Sucking darkeness clear
Is in reference to the H.
Its about ALL drugs. Its absolutely not referencing any one particular drug. The entire band has said that over and over in many different interviews. Every member of the band has been affected one way or another by addiction (their own or a loved ones) and this song references them all.
Been a Metallica fan for a long time now and when I started to actually play guitar I appreciated James work even more.Didn’t realize just how hard it is to play that heavy, quick and clean while maintaining a clean vocal performance.Dudes a literal musical god,and my main inspiration
Seen them twice... amazing shows! Thank you Homie... another great reaction!
U have to really open ur mind when listening to lyrics of metal songs they usually have a really deep meaning
I've always wondered if this song deserves 2 reactions if the reactor didn't catch the full meaning of the song lyrics. The 2nd reaction they'd know ahead it was about drugs and each lyric would drop like a hammer. And we'd also get to see that look of realization that when the beautiful interlude shows up that they're hearing the addict's momentary high before it comes crashing down again.
Its definitely not trash. The whole album is great
Love your videos man. It’s funny watching you react to songs I like and seeing your reaction😂 keep it up
Haven’t heard Master of Puppets in a minute, thanks for the reminder that it’s one of the best metal songs of all time!

LMAO, not even in the top 10,000 best. Its MetallicAs most overrated album. Calling Master Of Puppets the greatest album of all times in any genre is blasphemy. I love it, seeing this guys reaction to first hearing this. It's like his body wants to channel the Metal, but doesn't know how :D Thank-you for sharing this with people who haven't heard it before :D
It's about drug use, lyrics are from the perspective of the drug instead of the user... the music starts hectic, when someone needs their fix. It slows down because the user got his fix and then begins to speed back up as the cycle repeats needing the next fix.
Watching you react to what's widely considered the greatest metal song of all time is incredibly cool. 👍👍

Damn I wish he could have caught the meaning sooner but his reaction to the energy of the guitar with the rhythm was the same as mine when I listen as a teenager🤣
But if you’ve ever watched someone you love destroy themselves with drugs and alcohol you’d get the energy from the song. People get anger confused with passion this is equivalent to hardcore rap which people also miss the point of being passionate about what you’re saying

The speed of metal can be hard to get into until you've listened to it a few times, once you are used to it it will slow down to your ears and you can understand the lyrics and hear all the intricacies of the instruments. If you are into football think of it like that, you know how they say that when a player comes from college to the NFL the game is fast for them, but as they get used to it the game slows down for them.

I know most of us are grow up in different cultures but I think hip hop and metal have the most in common. Hip hop has the bars lyrically and speak emotionally through voice.
