    Thank you so much for such an informative video. I have been really struggling to make buttonholes on a wrap skirt, the needle just kept going up and down in the same place and the material was snagging and not moving smoothly under the buttonhole foot. I have just tried your suggestion of using a small zig zag stitch and it’s worked perfectly, I am so relieved.

    Thank you. Struggled all morning with buttonholes on a viscose shirt. Used some of your tips and the last one came out perfectly. Also managed to fix the incorrect holes. Faith restored 😀

    You are wonderful!!! It was very much a bent needle, so slight that I couldn’t see it, but once I switched it out for a new one the buttonholes turned out GREAT! Thank you 😊

    Olga, you are a star - I couldn’t understand why the fabric wasn’t feeding through properly under the buttonhole foot - and you helped me identify the problem. It was the rest of the fabric bunched up behind which was causing the problem even though it wasn’t caught up or anything. I cleared it all out of the way and the problem was fixed!

    So much useful information. I couldn't figure out why I could make 4 or 5 lovely buttonholes and then have a big knot of thread on the 6th. It makes sense now you've explained it all so well. Thanks so much

    Thank you so much! I am making a button front skirt and was able to do all the holes easily except for the first one directly below the waist band. Thanks to you video I realized it was because the waistband is just a touch thicker and was affecting the button hole foot. I turned the skirt the other way around so that the back of the foot was now facing the hem end and therefore not affected by the waistband. And that fixed it! 😊

      Thank you very much! I will try to worry less about my English now. As for your Brother machine, how many buttonhole stitches does it have? If one kind doesn't work, maybe the other one will? Maybe try the one with rounded edges? Or a keyhole buttonhole? But if nothing works I guess it's time for repair.

    Hello, i am having this problem with a ready made jacket. It has no buttons or buttonholes. I am trying to make these on it. I do not have any fabric the same thickness but yours seems to be either felt, or fleece, wool. What can i do? And the pressure foot pulls on the fabric as the foot has a roughness underneath to foot which catches on the fabric. I have two jackets without any buttons or buttonholes.

      Yes, thank you for the tip! You are absolutely right. Agree also with the longer stitch length - it will help to solve the problem.

    I noticed my machine went off buttonholes after thecneedle worked itself loose and got hammered down the dog feeds by tge shank and got jammed, i managed to get it out with pincers, but since then the button holes just gonup one side, then stop in one place and just sews and sews without returning down the opposite side?
    Your best tip is take it in for repair? As they are so sensitive it must have knocked a tiny piece of metal out if alignment, which is causing this bother?
    Thanks for all your helpful tips!

      In the article (for which the video is a companion) I am dealing with multiple reasons this might happen. It is difficult to have an opinion without seeing the actual behavior and getting a feeling for the problem. But if none of the issues I am dealing with applies, then yes, I believe it is time to see a specialist. The link to the article is in the description but for convenience here is again: www.ageberry.com/sewing-machine-buttonhole-troubleshooting/

    Helpful video for sure however I am having an issue with my machine where it will sew the first side to start however as it comes back to start the zig zag it does not go all the way back to the beginning resulting in button holes that are half the size they should be. I am unsure why this is happening and haven't been able to figure it out.

      It is difficult to diagnose this without seeing the behavior especially that there may be multiple causes or adjustments. I have collected some troubleshooting tips in an ebook available here www.ageberry.com/sewing-machine-troubleshooting/ perhaps you can use the contact form from that page (bottom) to send me an email with a more detailed explanation.

      There might be a setting or adjustment issue with your machine. Check to make sure you have selected the correct buttonhole setting and that any dials or buttons are positioned as they should be for a full buttonhole cycle.
      It could be a mechanical issue where the machine isn't switching sides due to a jam, misalignment, or another problem. In this case, seeking the help of a professional technician might be necessary.
      How many different buttonhole types your machine has? Sometimes selecting the wrong type or not completing the full buttonhole cycle can cause the machine to sew the buttonhole incorrectly. Once I know a bit more about your machine's options, I might be able to help you troubleshoot the problem more effectively.

    I'm making buttonholes on faux leather and my machine keeps jamming and thread comes out of needle. two buttholes came out fine but then trouble.

    • @SewingTutorialsByAgeberry
      @SewingTutorialsByAgeberry  3 роки тому

      I never make regular buttonholes on faux leather and on real leather, I only make bound buttonholes for these materials. But if you started... it's really problematic to sew nice buttonholes in this case. Try to put tissue paper on top under the presser foot and on the bottom on the needle plate. Or finish them by hand sewing. I have a tutorial on making buttonholes by hand at this link www.ageberry.com/how-to-sew-buttonhole-by-hand/

      It is difficult to say anything without seeing the behavior; I suggest if none of the tips in the video applies ( you can look for the printed version here www.ageberry.com/sewing-machine-buttonhole-troubleshooting/ ) then perhaps it is time to see a technician? Sorry I can't be of more help.

      Thank you; however I have never adjusted that and the manual for my machine does not mention the adjustment. Do you know why that adjustment would be necessary and when?

    • @24vad
      @24vad 4 роки тому

      @@SewingTutorialsByAgeberry My manual doesn't either. I searched UA-cam for hours and came across yours. It helped the most but I still couldn't get a complete buttonhole. More searching and came across the link. Made the adjustment then hurray a perfect buttonhole. My first problem, the rubber feet under the foot had completely come adrift and were on the table at the back of my machine! I was only producing the bartack. The rubber feet have a feed dog which feeds the fabric through. Glued them back on, result being first bartack ok, half inch of left side then machine stopped, bl error code. I found if I flicked the lever towards me the error code disappeared and the buttonhole stitching started again but with an extended length. Lots of fiddling with flicking the lever I could get a buttonhole of sorts but it was very frustrating. Apparently the lever has a sensor which can get mis-aligned through vibration or a knock. The link helped because I found out where to look to make the adjustment even though it was slightly different in that it wasn't a hex screw adjustment just a normal screw on a white plate. The buttonhole foot needs to be removed first. The sensor plate is green plastic, just under this is where you can see if it is mis-aligned. In the black plastic underneath the sensor is a slit covered with another piece of plastic which should be centred over the slit, mine was to one side. I loosened off the screw on the white plastic piece a little and eased the lever to where the alignment should be then tightened the screw. Result, perfect buttonhole. Even without lockdown I couldn't find a service engineer anywhere near me so I was so pleased when I found a link for this problem. Apologies for my poor explanation, I just wanted to show that this problem is not always down to the user.
